CS3 Student Upgrade to CS5.5

I just want a simple and straight answer. Can I upgrade my student licence CS3 to a commercial CS5.5 with a standard upgrade?
When looking through the forum, some people say you can, others that you can't.
I need to know so I can make the choice of whether to purchase the upgrade or if I have to purchase a new version. I would be really irritated if I purchased the upgrade and then was told that it was not an upgrade that I could use because of the student licence.

YES!
Simple and straight enough for you?
I believe some of the confusion is because there are no academic to academic upgrades. If you still have academic eligibility you would buy a full academic package.
But once you’re done with school, academic licenses carry full upgrade rights.
Just make sure you buy the right upgrade. For instance…here’s a link to the CS2/CS3 to CS5.5 Design Premium package (which is 20% off right now): http://amzn.to/kZOsu7
Hope that helps,
Bob

  • CS3 Mac - upgrade to CS5 Windows

Hopefully someone here can come up with a definitive answer please?
I have had CS3 installed and registered on a Mac since 2008. I want to upgrade to CS5 but change to Windows as that's my preference with photo editing software  (I already use Elements 7-8-9 on a PC).
Looking around, I just cannot find a definitive answer as to whether I can upgrade my Mac CS3 licence to a CS5 Windows licence - I see the question has been asked the other way round a few years back but the answers conflicted: Yes, no problem;  No, no way; yes but very complicated, have to write to Adobe. Not much help.
Can someone give me a definitive answer please rather than a guess? There is no way I can afford to buy the complete new product (I'm now a pensioner but have programmed since 1978 and been a photographer since 1961) so an upgrade is my only route. I don't want to buy the upgrade then find it's not working....
    Thanks.

This is just a user to user forum so no definative answers here.
Your best bet is to call Adobe and ask.  I know you can do it, just don't know the price.
Also, CS6 is set to start shipping on May 6.  If you buy CS5 now you will get a free upgrade to CS6.

  • Uninstalling CS3 after upgrading to CS5.5?

Sorry to throw this query at you all but am unable to find an answer in Adobe support after spending half an hour looking!
I've just upgraded from Web Premium CS3 to Web preium CS5.5 - all good - but the I still have all of the CS3 programmes on my PC. Can I now delete the CS3 suite ok without affecting the CS5.5 progs? I presumed that installing an upgrade would do just that - UPGRADE the existing software and not install a whole new suite along side the old one.
    Help appreciated!!
    JC

Upgrade does not do that.  There is a good reason for keeping older versions of software even if DW doesn't have that need.  The best program to think of incompatibilities between versions is InDesign.  I've been in the habit of keeping multiple versions of that, or with Photoshop at one point because I could never remember to switch between 64-bit launch and 32-bit launch for some older functions that were not compatible.
All you have to do is:
Mac User - Go to the Utilities folder and there is a folder of Adobe installers in there.  Choose the CS3 uninstaller.
Windows User - Go to the Control Panel-> Programs and click to uninstall CS3.
If the uninstaller is not present you may need your old media to uninstall.  Or you may be able to clean one version as a last resort ( http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ).

  • CS3 Student, Upgrade to CS3 Normal..possible?

I've currently got Web Premium CS3 Student Edition and have found out that it's not allowed for commercial use. Is it possible for me to upgrade from CS3 Student Edition to the normal CS3 package?
If it is, then is it for the fee quoted on the website for upgrades from CS3, £175?
I'm going to give Adobe a call soon, but it's been bugging me for a while now and the sooner I know the better.
    Thanks.

    There exist two different editions:
    a) student edition: no upgrades, no commercial use, compared to normal prizes very cheap.
    b) academic box edition: upgrades, commercial use during and after being a student, more expensive than the student edition, no allowance to sell it - it is only for your use - you do not have the right to sell it.
So, if you own a student edition, you can not upgrade. If you have an academic box edition, you can upgrade (with standard upgrade versions).

  • Can i uninstall CS3 once upgraded to CS5

    HI
can anyone tell me if its ok to uninstall photoshop cs3 once i have upgraded to cs5 or will that mean cs5 wont work?
Also, if any one has any ideas why the topaz labs plugins dont show up in the filters menu of cs5, any help would be appreciated, ive only just set this mac up today so there are no conflicting files or anything like that...
    thanks
    sarah

CS3 is not actually needed for CS5 to function but most people hang on to it until they are 100% happy with CS5. It not only has a few quirks but is missing some features of earlier versions.
Are the Topaz plug-ins compatible with 64-bit Photoshop?

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended upgrade to CS5?

Tried asking the online chat to answer this simple question . . .  the person really didn't understand what I was asking.
So here it goes, the complex question of —
Will a regular CS5 upgrade work for a CS3 Photoshop Extended version or not?

    Mylenium,
It was purchased from a big box store the US (years ago) and has a sticker on it saying "Only for distribution in North America."
It is for use in America, and so is my SC3 Extended version currently installed on my computer.
Both versions are for the Mac OS.
The system requirements are not of importance since my computer meets them all. The upgrade box says nothing about "CS3 or up."
The only mention of an upgrade on the entire box is on the side stating — "UPGRADE from an relier version. To install this upgrade version, you must have an eligible earlier version of this product. Before opening this package, check with your reseller about its return policy and your upgrade eligibility, or visit www.adobe.com/go/upgradeinfo for eligibility information."
So, here I am, trying a webpage that doesn't exist anymore and trying to find answers here . . . . .
Will this normal, regular, run-of-the-mill CS5 Photoshop upgrade work on a CS3 Extended version?
Is Photoshop CS3 Extended an "eligible earlier version of this product" for the CS5 upgrade?

  • What happens to aspx pages in DM CS3 after upgrade to CS5?

I am planning to upgrade from Dreamweaver CS3 to CS5. What will happen to my wesite created in C# aspx? Will the aspx DM extensions still work?

    SnakEyez02 wrote:
Your pages will continue to work and you can continue to hand-code .NET pages.  As far as behaviors and recordsets goes those have been deprecated so you will have to hand-code replacements.
The ASP.NET server behaviors can be re-enabled in Dreamweaver CS5 by installing the appropriate .mxp file located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DisabledFeatures (Windows). It's in a similar location in the Applications folder on a Mac.
Because the ASP.NET features have been disabled in the main product, they are no longer officially supported, but they should work.

  • Upgraded to CS5, now can't publish pages.

I upgraded to CS5 from CS3 and am now getting the error "either the network is unavailable or you don't have permission to publish to this location". Any ideas?

I confirmed that my client could ftp to our server from her machine. Basically checked off all the things they suggested doing on their support page. I ended up calling support. I had wanted to do a conference call with my client as they are in a different community than I am but could not get a hold of her. The support person had me check a couple of things on my end ie. ftp using my clients log in credentials and add/modify/delete folders on the server which I was able to. The support person wanted to try ftp’ing to our server but I told them they couldn’t because it’s behind a firewall. Our clients are internal and therefore can access our server with the correct credentials.
Later on the support person contacted my client directly and suggested that she download the trial version of CS5 and install it on a different machine (she had CS3 and upgraded to CS5 on her computer). She tried, much to my disappointment to tell my client that there was an issue with her connecting to our server because she (the support person) could not connect even after I told her she wouldn’t be able to.
So, my client did install the trial version of CS5 on another machine and it worked. I started thinking either there was something messed up on her machine or it was a bad install. Since she had a copy of CS3 I got her to uninstall Contribute, re-install CS3 and the CS5 upgrade and it worked.
Have you tried ftp’ing to your server using the same credentials as what are stored in Contribute using a command prompt or another application like CuteFTP? And you confirmed that you can add/modify/delete folders while ftp’d onto the server? Has your CS5.0 ever worked i.e. did you have it installed on a different machine and it worked? Can you uninstall Contribute 5.0 and download the trial and see if it works?
Sorry! I’m just trying to think of things to get you going. I know it’s frustrating. I’ve definitely been there! The support person I had talked to was actually pretty good. She emailed and called us at our convenience. It’s unfortunate that I was expecting to have experience similar to yours.

  • Upgrading from student editions to CS5 ?

    Hi,
I currently have a student edition of Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, and Illustrator 10. I would like to upgrade these to the Adobe CS5 professional versions, but I am not sure if I can since they are so old. Or can I upgrade these to the Adobe CS5 Design package?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, that won't work. All MX versions (student, full retail etc) are too old to qualify for an upgrade.
Adobe has a "3-versions-back" policy for upgrading these days.
So the only versions eligible for an upgrade to CS5 are DW8, CS3 and CS4.

  • Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Design Premium Student Upgrade?

I bought a student edition of CS3 Design Premium.
After purchasing it I found that I only use the Photoshop part of the Suite.
Am I able to upgrade the Photoshop portion, upgrade the complete Suite or do I have to purchase a new student copy of  CS5 Photoshop.
    Thanks in advance.

Bob -- I appreciate your bad news
Looks like I'll qualify for a teachers copy of CS5 -- I guess I'll pick one of those up.
I had a quick glance at your article & am sure that both I & my children (students) will find it of use.
Best to you & thanks again.

Subject: Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Design Premium Student Upgrade?
First things first...there are no student upgrades. If you're still eligible you can buy the software at student prices.
In the case of actual upgrades, no, you can't upgrade an individual sutie component.
I have an article on my web site that might be of interest to you: http://www.theindesignguy.com/purchase-advice.shtml

  • I own Photoshop CS3, how can I upgrade to CS5 (or even CS6)?

As I say in the title, I own Photoshop CS3 and I heard you could upgrade to CS5 or CS6 from that version. I've looked online and I can't find anything, either the links are broken or they bring me to an irrelevant page.
If anyone has any insight please help me!
P.S., the hoops one has to go through just to ask this question... I am quite lost.
    Thank you for your help!
    Chloe
EDIT: I am using a Windows computer, by the way. Windows 8.

There are no longer any upgrades from CS3 to any later versions of Photoshop. CS3 is too old to qualify.
As a CS3 owner, you can however get a discounted monthly fee for the Cloud version. The discount lasts for 12 months. Then it's back to the regular monthly fee.

  • Can I install Adobe CS3, and upgrade all the way through to CS5.5 on Lion?

    Hi,
I have registered Adobe Suite products since CS3 (DVDs) and been incrementally upgrading to CS5.5 on my Macbook Pro late 2008.
I recently bought a Mac Mini Server and I was wondering if I will be able to install my Adobe CS3 (imaged disks or external super drive) then run all my upgrades (see below) all the way through CS5.5 without any issues.
    1) Master Collection CS3 DVDs
    2) Design Premium CS4 DVDs
    3) Design Premium CS5 Download
    4) Design Premium CS5.5 Download
I have read somewhere that I could perhaps skip the 2 older CSx, and instead, just install my CS5 from download and enter the earlier serial numbers (CS3 + CS4) requested. But until I receive the Mac Mini with Lion, I cannot try this and confirm if this actually works.
Has anyone performed a similar installation on their Lion OS?
    Thank you.

  • Upgraded to CS5 Illustrator form CS3 Illustrator. Colors are not printing correctly in CS5

I have just recently purchased CS5 Premium Suite.  I am working with Illustrator.  When I print my CS3  Illustrator files in CS5 the colors are not printing correctly.  Is there a way to fix this problem

I've been doing more troubleshooting since I wrote this post. I've now tried printing from a non-Adobe app and I'm getting the same margin error. So it is definitely a Xerox issue and I have a tech coming out on Monday.
The reason I originally figured it must be an CS5 issue is because just two weeks ago when I was using CS2, our landscape-oriented programs were printing with .25" margins as they should. Then last week after upgrading to CS5, the inside page (2nd page) was noticeably out of whack and shifted to the right (not left). But when I started trying to troubleshoot this week, everything started shifting to the left.
The only thing different between those two weeks was the fact I updated to CS5.
But obviously, my printer as decided to go to crap in more ways than one all in a two week period. Hopefully the tech can sort it out next Monday.
    Thanks!
    Christi

  • Looking to upgrade to CS5 from CS3

HI everyone! I'm looking to upgrade to CS5 from CS3 Master Collection. Is there an easy way of doing this? I have zero interest in anything cloud related or CS6. thanks so much in advance!

As said by Brett already, you can no longer get CS5 or below from Adobe.
If by any chance, you make your mind to get CS6, Here is where you can get it. Creative Suite 6
