CS3 Subselection Tool Shift Drag?

Is it just me or is it impossible to constrain the movement of points selected with the Subselection Tool by Shift-Drag?
Properties window also does not show x and y for a collection of points selected with the the Subselection Tool and the same points do not Snap to Guides regardless of setting in Snapping. This leaves only the Arrow Keys as the way to move a collection of points with certainty that x or y will stay the same. VERY tiresome. Is this just the way it is or can this situation be fixed?

The Smudge tool simulates the effect you see when you drag a finger through wet paint. The tool picks up color where the stroke begins and pushes it in the direction you drag.
Select the Smudge tool .
Choose a brush tip and options for the blending mode in the options bar.
Select Sample All Layers in the options bar to smudge using color data from all visible layers. If this is deselected, the Smudge tool uses colors from only the active layer.
Select Finger Painting in the options bar to smudge using the foreground color at the beginning of each stroke. If this is deselected, the Smudge tool uses the color under the pointer at the beginning of each stroke.
Drag in the image to smudge the pixels.Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you drag with the Smudge tool to use the Finger Painting option.
Resetting the smudge tool might do by Ctrl+Left click on the smudge icon in the tool options bar and select Reset Tool.

Shift-Drag and Option Drag not working

I am using InDesign CC and my Shift-Drag to constrain in a direction has stopped working. Also my Option-Drag to duplicate has stopped working. Both work fine in Illustrator. Any help is appreciated....

It happens to me also, when I have external devices connected, like a beamer, a second screen, etc. Happens not with every device, but with some of them. Very bad situation if you make presentations or consulting and no shortcut works from one moment to the next.
I have not discovered exactly what this problem is causing, otherwise I would have filed a bug repaort against it to Adobe.

Why doesn't Shift+Drag scale a pic proportionally?

What is this? Shift + Drag doesn't scale a picture proportionally?
In every other Adobe application, combining Shift and Dragging scales a picture proportionally.
OK, then, so how DO I scale a picture proportionally?

OMG - Now I see. if I DON'T hold the Shift key, the picture scales proportionally. What planet am I on? Who at Adobe thought re-writing this universally accepted standard should be reversed in Muse?

This should have been done in every application a long time ago!
Normally scaling proportionally is the first choice. I can't remember, when I have willingly scaled an image unproportionally. And why using modifier keys for standard and no modifier for exceptions?
I assume, this is the way, Muse engineers are thinking.

CS3 Crop Tool, this is Driving me NUTS!!

hello, I was just wondering if someone can tell me what stupid little thing I am missing with the Crop tool.
I have done it before...What I want to do is have the crop tool set at a fixed dimension, WITHOUT resampling let's say I have a picture set to 72ppi, that's 8"x8". And I want the crop tool to be fixed at 150px by 90px, res: 72ppi. What is happening now is, the crop tool is dragging the entire span of the picture, and resampling my selection to the size I specified in the options bar above. I don't want that
What I want to happen is that when I click and drag, only a fixed 150x90px box appears, so that I can't make it any bigger than that...I have done it before....but for some reason I cannot find the option to turn of resampling, or for that matter the options for deleting the cropped out space or hiding it.
It's driving me nuts!! any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you leave the resolution box blank, whether the crop tool resamples or not then depends on the size units you choose in the width and height boxes. If pixel units are entered, the original resolution is preserved and resampling must occur to effect that. If inches are used, resampling does NOT occur.

CS3 Ruler Tool

According to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book, there's a ruler tool hidden behind the Eyedropper tool. All I see are the Eyedropper tool, the Color sampler tool, and the Count tool.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, v10.0.1
How do I get the ruler tool?

Selection Tool and SubSelection Tool and ActionScript

If I have a movieclip with ActionScript in it, I need to
toggle between
Selection Tool and SubSelection Tool to view the code as if
the movieclip
has two dimensions in which I can place two different codes.
What is the purpose of this?
Which code has precedence?
Can these codes be in conflict?

I do not know what is attaching script and placing it on the
timeline
I have a one-frame clip created using Insert--NewSymbol
Then I select this mc from the library, open the Actions pane
and type the
code.
Next time I open this mc and I the Actions pane may show

Option-Shift Drag sets position to 1 1 1 1: Bug or feature?

When I option-shift drag on a region's position in the Event List, it sets the position to 1 1 1 1. Just curious if this is a bug or a feature? Despite the fact that I have found a use for this, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Logic to act this way. Thanks.

Well it looks like your exact problem is listed on that incompatibility list:
JDBC - As of 5.0, comparing a java.sql.Timestamp to a java.util.Date by invoking compareTo on the Timestamp results in a ClassCastException. For example, the following code successfully compares a Timestamp and Date in 1.4.2, but fails with an exception in 5.0:
aTimeStamp.compareTo(aDate) //NO LONGER WORKS
This change affects even pre-compiled code, resulting in a binary compatibility problem where compiled code that used to run under earlier releases fails in 5.0. We expect to fix this problem in a future release.

Shift Dragging to keep alignment NOT WORKING

Just upgraded from CS2 to CS4. In CS2 we were able to shift drag and have the object stay in alignment from top to bottom as well as left to right. In CS4 it only keeps it in alignment from left to right. Any way around this?

I can see how it could possibly be a bug. We just upgraded yesterday and have seen some other little issues as well. I did try dragging it from the corner as someone suggested and after that it started working all the time, no matter where I drag it from.
I think it's a combination of problems. One being that if the Smart Guides see something it can align with they automatically bump the object to the recommended alignment. I can't seem to force it not to do that unless I turn Smart Guides off. The second problem I think is that I was shift+dragging to the left and it would work, then I would want to drag it down and it would get confused. If I drag to the left and stop, then drag up or down it seems to work.
Sounds like it's mostly user error!

Subselection tool not working with IK joint?

Greeting all!
Just starting to use IK bone tool. Having trouble with subselection tool on IK joints.
Its works on joints of shape armatures,I click it and I can reposition it. Why doesnt it work on movieclip armatures?
Has anyone had the same problem?

It could be the old problem of something else running in the background. What other porgrammes/applications do you have operating at the same time? Turn them off and see if the problem disappears

Overriding default Cntl Shift Drag Behavior

Control Shift Drag cancels out the whole drag operation if i m not wrong.. How can i disable this..

How can I use the move tool to drag ONE pixel at a time?

The move tool is stuck to snapping at ~20 pixels at a time, so when I try to move a layer by a few pixels, its super frustrating. I dont want to have to use the arrow keys, I should be able to drag wherever I want.
How can I stop the move tool from snapping? I want to drag things precisely. I am zoomed at 100% if that makes a difference. I cant find anything about this under Preferences.

Our posts overlapped there. Are you saying you could reliably drag one pixel with CS3?
What other issues are you having? Things like the Crop tool can feel strange at first, but I promise you you'll never want to use Classic mode once you get used to it.

CS3 hand tool geeking out

I've just switched to CS3 and have noticed that at times when I try to use my hand tool it tends to geek out. To be specific it seems to look as if the image is breaking up as I attempt to drag with the hand tool. It's impossible to see what I'm looking at since my image becomes blurry the more I use the hand tool. If I zoom out the image appears normal again. I thought it was a RAM thing and have tryed to have only Illustrator open to see it the problem still occurs. If I shut down Illustrator and start it up again it tends to fix the problem...temporarily. I should mention I've never had a similar problem with CS2. Is there a setting I can adjust, is this a matter of CS3 demanding more from my computer than CS2 or is this an issue that will hopefully be fixed in the next update?

If that isn't it, your graphics card may on its way out. And I seriously doubt there will be another update beyond 13.0.2 without including 14 (CS4).

CTRL+SHIFT+DRAG in arrange

this used to be a good 'drag' tool- you could drag the arrangement back and forth. But in v7 it is a kind of uncontrollable 'auto-scroll'
very hard to control and pretty much unusable. The arrangement goes flying all over the place.
Yes there is the small icon in the lower left corner of the arrange window I know. But why? It's smaller than the scroll-dragger that's built into the window.
Please make the CTRLSHIFTDRAG a normal (controllale) dragging motion again so the arrange window doesn't go flying all over the place.

You can see in that screen cast that the tab moves to the left on the tab bar to change its position, but you stay in the same tab and the position on the web page doesn't change.<br />
In previous Firefox versions you could only move a tab if you press the Tab key to set focus the tab bar and use Ctrl + Left and Ctrl + Right.
This is the result of the landing of this bug fix in Firefox 20.

Photoshop CS3 Crop Tool Doesn't Work

Does everyone's crop tool work correctly in PS CS3? Mine doesn't and I wasn't sure if this is a flaw in the software.

I just ran into a crop problem, too. I've been using the demo CS3 for about 25 days with no serious problems, on a Macbook Pro. I have a file with 2 layers (background and background copy). I tried to crop the image, with the background copy layer highlighted. When I do, the whole screen goes black (as if I have cropped the whole image into nothingness). The tiny thumbnails on the layers don't show an image, but two squares (2 halves of the thumbnail) of faded colors. I opened a completely different image, and tried cropping that, and I get the same result! I double checked and I am not cropping to any weird size or resolution. This seems like a big bug, if it is a bug!

CS3 Gradient Tool is screwed up

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed. I searched, but couldn't find it.
I just recently began using the gradient tool, after learning its usefullness with masks. It worked fine for several weeks, but now I can't get it to work. I think I might have accidentaly changed default settings.
I dragged the pointer from left to right across the middle of the picture, but instead of going black to transparent (or transparent to black, I never can remember which way it goes), the top went clear & the bottom went dark. Note that foreground is white & background is black. When I change to foreground red & background blue (for instance) & draw the line at same place, the top is red & bottom is blue. If line is drawn top to bottom, left is red & right is blue.
What am I doing wrong?
Actually, I 1st tried to use this on a mask. When that didn’t work, I tried it on a “regular” layer. This isn’t the 1st time I’ve had this problem. It been consistently screwed up for several weeks now.
I tried “Reset Gradients”, but that didn’t fix anything. I also made sure that “Dither” & “Transparency” are checked, as they are on my laptop, which is working OK.
Most of my Photoshop work is pretty basic stuff, so please provide "basic" answers w/o "buzz words" that might be over my head.
