CS3 Template help

Hello. I'm going to use one particular template (3 column
elastic) as an example in my question, but there's several similar
ones that would work...
So, if I go to "File"--->"New" and choose "Blank
Page"--->"HTML"--->"3 column elastic", the page that comes up
says the following on the left and right sides:
The background color on this div will only show for the length
of the content.
How do I get it so that it expands to the bottom of the page,
regardless of the user's resolution or monitor size? An example of
a site that it's bothering me on is here:
www.americanidiotsband.com
You can see that the page looks fine on anything up to
1024x768 or so, but if you have a nice newer big monitor that
accepts a higher resolution (like many people are getting
nowadays), then the left side of the page just kinda "stops".
Thanks!...

Google "faux columns".

I am unable to get my website to fit in the middle of the
screen. It looks fine on my pc but on some, it spreads out to fit
the entire screen. I would rather have it fit in the middle with

  • Problem inserting Flash video into DW CS3 template

I would like to insert some flash video into an editable
region inside a DW CS3 template. The template I am using seems to
work for literally hundreds of other pages I have made (none of
which, incidentally, have any media of any kind in them).
I have created the template and then an editable region and
now want to insert the flash video in that editable region. All
goes well until I hit the OK button. then I get this error--Making
this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or translator The change will be discarded.
Can anyone suggest how I might over come this error??
    Thx.
    Jane

The problem is the detection option in the video insertion
    dialog. If you
disable that option, you will not get the error.
This is a problem because the detection routine requires a
    modification to
the <body> tag (insertion of an onload event) which you
    cannot easily do in
    a template child page.
If you really must have the detection, then you can copy and
    past the load
call from a dummy (non-templated) page on which you have also
    done the same
insertion. Post back with that page's body tag code, and I'll
    show you
    how....

  • Flash Site Template Help With Text

So I downloaded a flash template to use for my website... all I need are some editing of the texts, pictures, and some of those links. Here is the template:
    http://www.templatemonster.com/flash-templates/24451.html
My problem is I'm completely NEW at flash. I used to use FrongPage 2003 for my webdesign but I wanna use this for my new website (since it looks a lot better!) How do I edit the text fields? I can only seem to move the bar along the timeline to watch the animation, and see all the layers and item properties that none have anything with the text in them. And also the images as well, if I need to do anything special with those (within template link above you'll see they flash white for a second) and the main logo has some animation there. I have all the fonts required but I don't know if I also have to make the logo with those special white flashy lines like a GIF animator or if that's just some special affect within the template itself.
Now due to legal notices specified by the site I can't share the template with you but I'll attempt to answer any and all questions i can to see if I can get this all figured out so I can begin adding my own content to the site. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't look like there's an xml file for the text. Reading the template help index, and its saying some text might have complex coding for special effects and that I'd have to edit by the Library or something, so I'll try using that reference for now. I appreciate the help and I may come back if this can't help me lol
EDIT:   It says I'm missing the font file "tahoma" mapped to _sans    ....??  I have tahoma... as well as the main title logo isn't appearing in the .fla file anymore even though I got the correct font. I'm confused >.<
Edit 2: As well I get this a lot on many different areas:
    Forms Component - Version 0.81
    Couldn't load configuration.

  • DW CS3: Template & CSS Rules problems

Dreamweaver CS3 Templates and CSS Rules.
I've built a basic html page with a header, navigation links and main content area, then saved this as a template with the content area as the edit region.
When I create new html pages from this template I want to insert Divs in the edit region for each new page, which I can successfully do, but for some reason Dreamweaver is not allowing me to create new CSS Rules for each new Div? So I'm not able to control position, text layout, colours etc for the new content. So my question is how do I do this?
I got around this with the current website by creating the template with virtually all of the content for the entire website firstly, then deleting as necessary for each page, which I know is the wrong way to build html site pages from a template!
I wonder if someone could please point me in the right direction to get me back on track? Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a meta tag at the start of the CSS rules. Here's a copy and paste of the code generated in DW CS3. Template was created from a html doc...

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Hidden Template Help

Hello I am new to these forums and would appreciate any help I can get. Ok here's the issue.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 to work on a website that was created from a template. Everything was going fine until I did something and now the template doesn't display in the design view of dreamweaver. It will render perfectly fine in the browser, and when i pull up the corresponding .dwt file the layout is there. I can still see my editable regions and the content within. It just won't display in dreamweavers design view of the page that it is linked to.I'm sure i just unchecked some list item that displays this I'm just not sure where or how I did it.
Please let me know if you need me to post any of my code etc. Thank you for your time and help it is much appreciated.
    Thank you, JRED

  • Dreamweaver Cs3 Template Application help!

    hi folks
I have an index page which I made into a template - I then created six main 'title' categories from this template. Then, I saved each 'title' category as a template, and created about 6 or 7 'sub category' pages from those templates - the thinking being that if I had to make major changes, I could make the changes to the templates in each category (as they all share look and feel within a category).
    I have 2 problems/questions:
1> I needed to detach the 'aboutus.html' page from the indextemplate.dwt to make some minor changes in uneditable areas - now, however, when i reapply the template, major changes are applied, as the aboutus page has changed significantly from the template. Is there a way I can apply *just* certain changes from the template? I thought the behavior was that it only applied the latest changes from the template - not the *entire* template from top to bottom (in a sense, it 'synchronized' the 2 together after I did the modify/remove and modify/apply actions).
2> My 'sub' pages - which were created as 'new' pages based on the 'Title' page templates - they dont seem to be updating. I *do* get the 'update' pages'
dialogue box when i save changes to the templates - but the changes are NOT being carried through. Is this because the templates are 'nested' - i.e the templates which are the TITLEs are actually based on a template themselves.
    Thanks!!!

Is there an inherent problem/bug that makes nested templates a broken 'feature'?
No, it's just a feature without a good reason to use it.  I look at it this way - I use templates to make my development/maintenance tasks easier.  Why would I then add a complexity to that reason that actually makes my tasks harder again?
that still doesnt really help me with how to 'prevent' the template from overwriting everything on the page. the one that had that issue was NOT one of the nested ones.
This is how templates work.  If you are finding that you need to edit a page in a region that is non-editable, you have to go back and re-work your template to allow such edits to survive the next update.  This is MUCH better than detaching a page, which defeats the whole purpose of using templates in the first place.

  • DW CS3 template issues....Please help

I have had this problem before and checked how it was fixed. The solution did not work this time so now I am stumped.
I have a site with 2 master templates and a total of 39 child pages. One of the templates was actually created from the first master template. I have an image that I change on a pretty regular basis on the master template file. I change the image, click save and put all the files. It updates all 39 files (including the second master template titled mastertemplate3). I view the pages in DW and the image is changed. When I view the webpage on IE or Firefox, the image is NOT changed. I have tried syncronizing the pages and that is not working.  I am totally confused why all of a sudden my image will not upload.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
BTW - the image is NOT in an editable region so that is not the problem.
    Thanks

In other words, you have nested templates?  That's unfortunate.
Can you post a link to one of the pages, please?

  • Dreamweaver cs3 template theme help

    Hello,
I'm very new to dreamweaver and just getting use to it but
wanted to ask a quick question for one of you professionals out
    there.
With the theme portion of Dreamweaver (currently all I have

but sometimes I will save it and then try to do another page and
the theme page looks great on the dreamweaver side but on the
actual internet the site looks terrible like all the font is
different and the links don't have the hovering graphics, etc. I
was just curious if any one knows why it does this on certain
pages? Let me know. Thanks for your help in advance.

    > Let me know.
It would not be possible to diagnose without seeing a) a page
    that's "good"
and b) a page that's "bad". Screen shots will not work for
    this - we would
need to see the code. Can you show us those two pages?

  • How do I create a guestbook in Dreamweaver CS3, Plz Help....

Hi I want to create a guestbook in dreamweaver cs3 my website is www.freewebzs.com
Also it would be brilliant if you guys could help me and recommend me background colours, is there a free website I can get background colours from?
And also what fonts and colours are most popular for websites.
Im new to dreamweaver as ive just started using it so any advice would be great, thanks

I have to agree with David, if you are new to DW, then creating a guest book will be difficult for you.  However, you don't have to re-invent the wheel, there are many guestbook scripts available to save you the time and certainly the headaches  :-)
Take a look here for a selection:  http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Guestbooks/
    As for colours kuler is good, but you can also look at;
    These palettes may help:
    http://www.colourlovers.com/palettes/search?hsv=&sortType=rank&sortBy=asc&query= spring&hex=&lover=&hueOption0=&hueOption1=&hueOption2=&publishedBeginDate=12%2F2 7%2F2004&publishedEndDate=04%2F12%2F2009&x=26&y=17
    More colour schemes here:

For fonts, you are better staying with web-safe fonts that will ensure cross browser compatibility:

  • Odd DW CS3 Template issue

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I could get some help on an odd issue I've
been experiencing with DW CS3. I have been tasked with adding
content to two templates we use (which include a vertical nav bar,
footer and header). After I've made my changes, I would save the
work and then be prompted to Update Pages. During this process, I
don't receive any errors (the only message I get is something like
"Dreamweaver needs to check out this file in order to update").
After all is said and done, I take a look at a few of the
(checked out) pages and I can see the template changes have been
made to them. However, when I check the file back in and take a
look at it online, the changes are not there. Incidentally, I saw
the page here by Murray featuring 7 points that may cause this
issue, but to the best of my knowledge, I have not committed any of
    them.
Here's where things get weird: When I go back into DW and
check out the file (to see what went wrong), the web page (which
showed the template change not moments before) goes back to its
original, unmodified state. I've found a way to get around this by
using the "Modify > Templates > Apply Template To Pages..."
process, but with so many web pages, this seems counter-productive.
And this is the third time this issue has occurred for me.
Considering that, I wonder if I'm missing a step. Do I need to
check in the .dwt file after I've made the change but before I
    update?
Insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your
    time and patience.

    > the only message I get
    > is something like "Dreamweaver needs to check out this
    file in order to
    > update"
    Uh oh.
Using Templates in a site with checkin/checkout is a very
    troublesome thing.
It's a tedious process, but you must be
    systematic -
    * have the client up-synch all files
    * down-synch your local site
    * make template changes and let them propagate
    * up-synch
    * notify client that it's safe to work on the site again
    Wish it were easier myself....

    developers, right?)

  • Missing height colum! (Table) CS3 Please help

I  am using cs3 presently an am having a strange issue.. when a table selected, the width colum comes at right place but the height column is absent (But it was there in drmweaver 8) i do'nt know if others have same prob too..
i know its a small thing but my working style makes it a big thing for me.. every tym i  hav to manualy change height i have to shift to code view and change (I doo most of work in design w only..) any hhelp would b appriciated
as you can see the highlighted portion
pardon me for spell mistakes its now  morning in my country and i'v been working allnight long..
    Thanks

That option was removed from the current versions of DW because Table height is invalid HTML.
A table should shrink or expand to fit whatever content is inside it  :-)
Are you trying to set 100% height on tables - then this may help:

  • Cs3 Template Crash

Hi, I'm part of the westby area school district design team.
we are a class of 12, we recently decided to redo our website. Our
website is currently frame based but since changing to spry menu
bars frames would not work anymore, so we changed to templates. We
have teams that are applying templates to old pages and putting
them on a network so one person can link everything and keep the
process organized. We have made fair progress, but when we update
the template on the main computer dreamweaver crashes. I have tried
deleting 1 page at a time in-case it was a page error, but no luck.
Also, several computers are using dreamweaver cs3, but a majority
are using mx. cs3 crashes, but mx says that it cannot open the
files, non-of the files are locked or have the .lck ending.
    Any thoughts?

Ok, i have learned that all the files are locked, but none of
them show the symbol or the .lck ending. I have enabled check in
and check out, but I cannot check out the website because the files
are locked. We are doing everything locally till we "put up the
website". Any idea on how to unlock all the files? I have
vigilantly searched dreamweaver help with no luck.
