I am trying to open a cs3 file in cs. can i do that? do I need a plugin?

You can't there's no plug-in. Export the CS3 file as an INX file and open in CS2. Export again from CS2 as INX, then open that in CS. All versions should be fully upgraded. The twice dumbing-down from CS3 will probably have an effect on the appearance of the file.

I am reinstalling Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on a new computer but get the message "The currently installed soundcard driver does not support DirectSound Input. Recording audio is not possible". Yes, quite likely a compatibility issue. CS3 used an older compatibility model, which long has been surpassed by newer versions of DX. However, it still should be backward compatible, so any issues you may have may depend on requiriung a specific driver, installing the full legacy load of DirectX or as a minor, changing some permissions on teh system to allow loading of unsigned legacy drivers and/or compatibility modes. It's a more complex problem than just flipping a switch eitrher way. Check your device manager and then work your way through...

Is it possible to save a project in cs4 and then open it in cs3

Hi, i would be greatful if anyone knows if there is a solution to this problem.
At home i use cs4 but in university they only have cs3, i know it is possible to open up a cs3 project in cs4 but unfortunatly if i do any further work on this at home in cs4 and save the project it no longer seems compatible with after effects cs3. So, is it possible to open a cs4 project in cs3?

No, it's not possible without using hacks. And Adobe can't support or endorse hacks
Bear in mind that not only there are new features in a new version which can't possibly be recreated by an older version - also, there are enhancements to existing features, which would make them render differently in the two versions.
That said, there are people posting such hacks, as Sébastien pointed out.

Bonjour,
la licence double existe depuis bien avant CS3, donc ça devrait être possible. Il suffit de lire le CLUF qui est fourni avec.
Par-contre je doute que CS3 puisse fonctionner sur un Mac actuel avec Yosemite…

CS2- CS3 Observer questions.

In the CS2 plugin we simply used the default values available, IID_IUNKOWN & IID_IOBSERVER...

As of CS3 however this no longer possible for the "intrestedin" parameter to be left undeffined, instead the specific IID you want to monitor is required. If I understand things correctly.

Thanks Dirk, the observer finally observed. But how can I make sure it is a guide that is being moved? In the old code theChange was sent by kMoveGuideAbsoluteCmdBoss so it was available immediately. CS3: Saving or Outputting .AI File as Multiple Files

There must be a way to save or output a single Adobe Illustrator file into multiple files based on the "pages" I have created in the document?
For example, if I have tiled 10 tabloid-sized pages onto a single Illustrator CS3 .AI file, is it possible to save the file in a manner that will allow all of those tiled pages to be saved as a seperated or individual files?
I guess it would be a similar concept to how in newer versions (like CS4) you can export multiple jpegs of an illustrator file that contains several artboards and it automatically assigns a number suffix to the filename since multiple files were outputted from the single ai file.
Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

galleries and plops the whole thing on an .htm page (or html if you
prefer). My question is how can I add a layer to this .htm page
generated by CS3? is it even possible?
what I ultimately want to do is to add an animated nav bar
into this layer thus easily linking the gallery to the rest of the
site.

ACR 4: Fill Light and Recovery producing halo effect in CS3

When adjusting Fill Light or Recovery in ACR 4, I'm getting an outlining effect in contrasty areas of some images. Happens with both RAW and DNG files.
 
 This does not manifest itself with any other adjustments.
 
 Anyone else seeing this? I've included a couple of examples, one with no post processing and one with Fill adjustment only.

In case you are still monitoring this discussion, I also have experienced these halos whilst using Lightroom to edit Tif files which are both under and overexposed in the same image - that is, they are very contrasty. This experience has been subsequent to the release of both CS3 and Lightroom - which both use the ACR 4 engine, as I understand it. From my observations, the halos result from using a combination of too much Fill and Recovery but seem more influenced by Recovery than Fill. I have thought that this is not unexpected, and is therefore probably not a bug, as there must be a natural limit to how much of an overly contrasty image that you can rescue. I have been able to minimise (but not completely eliminate) the halo effect by judicious use of added Exposure in lieu of some Fill (to recover at least partially some of the underexposed regions) and a reduced amount of Recovery - and just accepting that all the highlights might not be as optimally enhanced as desired. Perhaps the halo effect produced by these wonderful tools may be further reduced in subsequent releases of CS3(ACR4) and Lightroom - a possibility hinted at by Jeff Schewe in his reply to your post.

Using Bridge without other CS3 Applications?

I work for a advertising company, and we have project managers that need access to the creative assets on a centralized server running Version Cue Server CS3. It would be ideal if they could access the server via Bridge for PC or Mac, but obviously they don't need any of the other CS3 applications.
Is it possible to run/install just Bridge? If so, what is the best way to purchase licenses for Bridge if we don't need any of the other CS3 applications?

You can't buy Bridge by itself.
And what's the point of wanting to view a thumbnail or preview if you don't have the application to open the image anyway?
Photoshop comes with Bridge, so you don't need the whole suite.

If you know where the page is at, I myself don't see any reason why you can't access it.
The only thing I could think was if Livejournal.com had a lock on the page or if you had to sign-in and your u/n and p/w had expired.

Just deactivate CS3 on your old machine, do a fresh install on your laptop, activate, and you're golden. You can decide to uninstall of CS2 if you wish, when you wish.
I assume that, if you bought the CS3 discs, you have 'em. Or if you bought CS3 as a download that you made a backup archive of the downloaded files. So, I don't know what you mean by "find an upgrade of CS3 file..."

PS: Finaly, we lost our CD or DVD (with box), we have only serial number and bild (was purhased 2008), nothing else. I tried to finding the same as we lost distributive via Google, etc a lot of time, but trere is no success.

Unable to determine why CS3 slows pc or causes it to hang

I have several users who use the same workstation with CS3. The workstations are Dell Precision T5400 with Intel PIII Xeon processors, 4GB of RAM, nVidea Quadro FX 1700 video cards, and 160GB 7200K HDD. These pc's fun flawlessly if the users aren't using CS3 products. If they use the CS3 products they experience multiple issues, such as the pc hanging and needed to be manually shutdown and restarted, trouble printing from InDesign, inability to copy/paste within/from CS3 products, general slowness of pc when using CS3 products and if they leave their desks for an extended period (15 min. or longer) when they return the CS3 product(s) will have hung and need to be shutdown via the Task Manager.
One user experiences nearly daily BSOD (message indicates video card/ video card drivers) when using CS3 products.
Is it possible that these issues are related to the video card and the fact that it is designed more for CAD products and not CS3? If so does anyone have a recommendation for a better video card?
Other suggestions? I have enabled the 3GB switch.

It could be a video card issue. Before replacing video cards, try turning off any video acceleration. It could be a font issue. It could be an issue related to your virus and/or spyware software. It could be bad RAM. Try playing with the video card settings and possibly trying a newer or older video card driver. Then look at the virus/spyware software. Try turning off any third party programs that run in the background. Then try replacing all the fonts with copies off the original disks. If you have other hardware try looking at switching the RAM with a different computer that uses RAM of the same type and speed. If all else fails, then try a different video card to see if it makes a difference.

W7 Installation issues- CS3 or CS5?

Hi, I'm desperately trying to get CS3 onto a clients new PC with Windows 7 x64 on and am not having any luck. It went on a Windows 7 32bit laptop but keeps crashing (the prog has stopped working) and won't run on my own W7 PC so I thought I'd ask in here. Running as administrator doesn't seem to do anything so I'm led to believe we need CS5 to progress?
Any advice or pointers are greatly appreciated,

Adobe does not officially support Windows 7 with CS3 although it may be possible to install it (make sure you are running as local Administrator).
Although CS5 fully supports Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit), CS5 is no longer officially sold by Adobe although you may find some lingering copies of it in the retail channel. The current version of InDesign is InDesign 7.5 (CS5.5).

You'd have to look for unmatched quotes, in this case two cases of two open quotes without an intervening closed quote. This is difficult to script in CS2 because it doesn't have GREP natively and because of footnote problems. In CS3/4 it should be possible. But even then it will work only if you don't have quotes within quotes.
