CS3 to CS2 compatability issues

I have Illustrator  CS3 on my computer and I need to send an .eps file to someone who needs to open it on a CS2 file Can someone explain to me how to do it? I have no clue how to do this "legacy" stuff that i keep on reading about.

Why not simply send him a CS2 Illustrator file? Simply choose the respective older version format in the Save dialog. Sending an EPS would be kinda foolish, as it flattens everything and he would not be able to edit it much, but he might so with a native AI file, even if some of CS3 specific features will also be converted/ flattened...

  • PS CS2 lens correction causes "Maximize Compatibility" issue in LR

Question: why does PS CS2/3 convert the layer "Background" to "Layer 0"?
This is the problem (and solution):
I encountered the widely discussed "Maximize Compatiblity" issue with a bunch of PSD files (slide scans) that contained only one layer. Puzzled as I was that the layer thing apparently could not cause the problem, I reopened some of those files in PS CS3 and I noticed that each of them had had a lens correction. Just to make sure I was on the right track I applied a lens correction to a file that had been already imported into LR successfully and used the SaveAs command and unchecked the Maximize Compatibility option. The new file could not be imported into LR. So no more lens corrections? - I thought.
A closer look on the troublesome files made me learn the (only) layer had been renamed from "Background" to "Layer 0" after the lens correction was made. I used the "Flatten Image" command and this turned it back into "Background". After this, the file could be imported into LR without a problem.
I can now apply this trick to all troublesome files that have had lens corrections and thus avoid the huge increase in file size (130MB is a lot already).
Now I write this for those of you who have the same problem and are still puzzled (to help out) but I also would like to have some insight into why PS CS2/3 lens corrections mess with the layers.
    Thanks.

    >My conclusion would be that LR can only import PSD files that meet the following requirements:
    >1. must contain only one layer
    >2. that layer must be called "Background"
Your conclusion is only partially correct.
Lightroom will import multi-layered PSD files that have been saved with the preference for "Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility" set to On. This is clearly stated in the Release Notes and Help documents:
    >Photoshop format (PSD)
    >Photoshop format (PSD) is the standard Photoshop file format. To import and work with a multi-layered PSD file in Lightroom, the file must have been saved in Photoshop with the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility preference turned on. Youll find the option in the Photoshop file handling preferences. Lightroom saves PSD files with a bit depth or 8 bits or 16 bits per channel.
As to the original point -
PS CS2 lens correction causes "Maximize Compatibility" issue in LR.
Photoshop renaming Background Layer to Layer 0 is a Photoshop issue, not Lightroom. When it occurs the files effectively becomes a multi-layered file, even if there is only one layer (i.e layer 0). Why using the Lens Correction filter causes the background layer to be renamed is currently unclear, but I have raised it in the "appropriate" place. In the meantime, I recommend that you set the Maximise Compatibility preference to
Always. Doing so will save non layered files as normal and multi-layered will have the
necessary* composite preview. You can continue to use the flatten command to fix the errant files.
*Enabling the Maximise Compatibility preference ensures that Photoshop creates a composite preview of multi-layered images. It is intended to enable applications that can't read layers to preview the images. Lightroom cannot read multi-layered files, therefore the composite preview MUST be present in such files.
    >Has anyone noticed different behaviour with the Lr v2 beta? I'd hate to double the size of all my multilayer PSDs just so they can load into Lr(?)
Lr 2.0 will function as per Lr1.x; i.e. not using Maximize Compatibility when saving multi-layered files will mean that they are not compatible with Lr2.0.

  • Compatibility Issues with CS2 and Windows 2000 XP??? This is supposed to be THE one operating system CS2 DOES WORK ON? Can someone help - I really need my CS2 back! Thanks.

HELP! Years ago - SEVEN to be exact- I PURCHASED Adobe CS2 and used it extensively. Then I was in an accident that took five years to recover from. After my recovery I tried to get back to using my Adobe products only to find that Adobe was discouraging use of CS2 and since I OWN a LICENSE and that was the LAST version I used I wanted to begin again with a version I am familiar with. Many months later, apparently I wasn't the only one who wanted to KEEP USING CS2 and now Adobe has made it possible to download this version for PC and MAC, BUT due to OS compatibility issues Adobe continues to discourage downloading and use. HERE'S THE THING: I have the SAME SYSTEM running the SAME OS as when I first PURCHASED IT. I have downloaded the EXACT SAME VERSION of CS2. It installs fine. But I cannot OPEN the application and the troubleshooter reports there are "COMPATIBILITY ISSUES". WHY?!?!?!?!?
I'm on a PC running Windows 2000 XP. I OWN a LICENSE for Adobe CS2 and it used to run on this very same machine. I had to re-format my system two years ago so it has much more free space but when I  try to OPEN the application it won't run. When I run the Windows Troubleshooter it reports system compatibility issues?! Can anyone advise me what to try now??? Thank you.

Yes, I have. My system was completely cleaned of everything and I'm just now RE-INSTALLING CS2 for Windows2000 XP from the Adobe site that gives you versions to select for your OS. I have successfully downloaded disks 1,2 and 3 and I can INSTALL disks 1 and 2, but it FAILS at disk 3. I REALLY need to resolve this today because I need to submit some work by tomorrow and the troubleshooting isn't helping!
Can you advise anything else . . . anyone? Thank you!

  • I can't create PDFs from CS3 programs in Acrobat Pro XI. Compatibility issue or just Acrobat?

I was just upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI this morning. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator don't seem to be supported file types for creating a PDF from Acrobat.  While I usually create my PDFs from the authoring program, I occasionally need to make a lot of PDFs of different files at once, and making them from Acrobat makes sense instead of opening each individual file.
Is this just a compatibility issue? We have requested upgrades to CS6, but it will be a while before it gets approved (if it gets approved).  Did someone think it was a brilliant idea not to allow PDFs from the CS products to be created from Acrobat instead of the authoring program?

Can you describe your workflow a little more? Are you saying that you created PDFs of InDesign documents using Acrobat directly -- not using InDesign?
If that was possible in CS3, I must have missed it.
FWIW, I can't select CS6 InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop documents in Acrobat X. You can only select a handful of image formats, HTML or PostScript/EPS.

  • Adobe Flash IDE: Migration/Compatibility issues between Adobe Flash Professional CS3 and CS5

    Hi,
Adobe Flash IDE: Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5
I am facing some  migration/compatibility issues between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5:
I am working on a project that has  been completely developed in CS3 earlier. When I am using CS5 (Flash Player 9 /  Flash Player 10) to compile the FLA files, it is creating some new issues like  some customized radio buttons are getting disappeared while viewing the SWF on a  web page etc.
So, I would like to  know:
    1) Is there any  migration/compatibility issue between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5?
    2) If yes: Is there any patch  available from Adobe for it?
    3) If no: What could be the causes  and the best possible solutions for it?
Any help and support would be highly  appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
    Thanks & Regards
    Amit

Apparently some people have issues, but I don't think it is across the board.  Here's a link to another recent posting that may or may not prove helpful to you...

  • CS3 Compatibility Issue

I've been working on a couple of documents in InDesign CS5 (trial version) and trying to transfer them to a version of InDesign CS3 that I use elsewhere but there are compatibility issues.  Is there some way I can save my files as an idx file because I heard that works for compatibility or is there something else I can do to make it work?
If not where can I get a trial version of InDesign CS3?
    Thanks!

The ONLY way to get from CS5 to CS3 is to export to .idml from CS5, then open that in CS4, export to .inx from CS4, and fianlly open that in CS3. If you've taken advantage of the new features in CS5 your document may be so mangled that it will be useless.

  • Photoshop CS3 (nor CS2) won't launch since CS3 install

Since installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium I can no longer open Photoshop. It repeatedly crashes on the launch window. For the sceptical, my CS3 Production Premium collection was all legitimately authorised and registered.
Of the other CS3 apps that installed (can't install Encore, Premiere or Soundbooth on PowerPC) they all open and run perfectly fine.
I uninstalled all CS3 and re-installed CS2. Now Photoshop CS2 won't open either (but everything else is still fine). Exactly the same problem, Photoshop crashes during the launch window.
What has CS3 changed to my system that prevents Photoshop opening and can I correct the issue? From searches on this subject Someone suggested repairing permissions before and after installing CS3. This had no effect.
    Thank you for any help.
//-- edit- the crash seems to happen when 'Building TWAIN menu items' --//

You can try trashing and regenerating Photoshop preferences when you launch.
Hold down command/option/shift while launching Photoshop. You will be asked if you want to get rid of Photoshop settings. Choose yes.
See if this works; you may have to reset some of your Photoshop preferences afterward. I'm not sure why you can't install the other applications.
Also, it may have something to do with activation; did you activate your copy of CS3? You should be able to have CS3 and CS2 both running as far as activation is concerned, but are they on the same drive? This might be a problem if one version is trying to read the other's settings during launch.

  • CS3 and CS2

I was searching forum and read that it may be an issue with installing CS3 and CS2 on the same computer. Can someone confirm this for me as true.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Never had any problem at all, although (disclaimingly yours) YMMV.
I should mention that my experiences are based on chronologically installing CS, CS2, and CS3,
    i in that order.
(It might be important -- perhaps someone with lots of free time can experiment with different install orders.)
As the file extension for all three versions is the same (".indd"), Windows cannot link files made with different versions to their original creators, and using the Explorer, the latest installed version will lways open. However, each separate program can be started manually, and can open its own documents and older ones w/o any problem at all.

  • Illustrator CS3 Save as Postscript Issue

Utilizing Illustrator CS3 on Mac OSX Tiger -
Unable to output Postscript file. Getting the following error message: "The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported."
However, we are able to output Postscript from same computer in Illustrator CS2 without issue. Note that in CS3 it is also prompting to re-enter the file name when saving but not in CS2.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Are you trying to "Print" to a Postscript File?
For "Printer" choose "Adobe Postscript" and for PPD choose "AdobePDF"

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Windows 7 compatibility issues with Studio 8

    Hi guys,
Sorry if this question has been asked before.
I can't afford to upgrade my Studio 8, and I would ideally like to install it clean on my Windows 7 rig which is working fine.
I understand that there is an issue with Flash and Windows 7, and I would like to know what it is (and how serious), and also whether there are any other compatibility issues that would make problems for myself.
    Any advice gratefully received.

If compatibility is important to you, your best best is to run a virtual machine in your Windows 7 64-bit installation.  You can do this using Virtual PC as part of Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, or via VMWare's Player software ( http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ ).
Also just a reminder that CS5 betas are planned for later this year and Adobe typically only allows you to upgrade from the previous 3 versions (Studio 8 = CS2, CS5 will be the last version) and some of the Creative Suite applications are going to be 64-bit only(a couple products have updated FAQs stating this fact).

  • Framemaker 9 and CS3 Master Collection compatibility?

    Hi everyone,
I am looking at demo-ing FM9 with a view to buying it if it suits my needs. The only thing holding me back at the moment is that I already have CS3 Master Collection (including Acrobat 8) on my system (and I'm not upgrading that...).
I know from previous experience that Adobe products of different 'generations' don't always play nicely together, so wanted to ask before I download if there will be any compatibility issues (especially concerning Acrobat - does FM9 install the Adobe Acrobat 9 printer driver, as the RoboHelp demo tried to? Will that cause any issues with Acrobat 8?)?
    Many thanks,
    Martin Hughes

Yeah, it'll try to install a newer version of Distiller. However, it does prompt you -- so don't do it.
Also, be sure you download the FM patches -- the automatic update may or may not work.
Also, if you're running XP, it's a good idea to install the MS PostScript hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=952909
-- it applies to all PS printers, including the logical PDF.

  • Every single box is outlined after conversion from CS3 to CS2!!!! Plz HELP!!!

    Hi there guys,
I'm quite new to the forum, but I have come through an issue that is weird to me...
See: One of my clients I'm a freelance designer– is an ad agency whose only graphic designer is on marriage vacation.
This guy converted some files from Indesign CS3 to CS2 so I can go on whit the projects while he is out happily just married in Thailand...
The problem is, however, whit every single box, doesn't matter if they are text or image boxes or even empty boxes. Neither if they already had outline or not. They all have somehow come up whit a black outline. And I'm starting to lose my nerves on fixing that...
Moreover, there are some text boxes –footnotes and the like– that contain a web address or an e-mail direction. This "www.xxxxxxxxx.com" and the "[email protected]" stuff is outlined within the text box with the same black line that will disappear only if I type back the thing...
Is this maybe a known issue? Has anyone ever heard or experienced that?
Any workarounds or known fixes or whatever?
Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to read and answer!!!

The outlines around hyperlinks are just visual indicators for you so you'll know they are there (not all hyperlinks show up as URLs) and won't print. You should be able to turn them off in the hyperlinks palette if you want to. If you just re-type the hyperlink text it will no longer be a real hyperlink, if that'st required.
As far as the strokes on everything, I'm not sure. Is it possible there's an object style applied to all of these items and the stroke is now defined in the style. (Does CS2 support object styles? I've forgotten and don't have it on this machine to check). It could also be some sort of translation glitch in the move from CS3 to CS2.

  • Importing INX from CS3 to CS2 problem

    Greetings,
I'm working on a 16-page newsletter file saved from ID CS3 to INX that then won't import into CS2. When I try, a list of missing plugins come up that its saying are needed. The thing is, I've done this before and it wasn't a problem. Also, I've tried a blank test INX from CS3 into CS2 and it opens.
I'm assuming there's something in this particular CS3 newsletter file that's causing the snag, but have no idea what I'm looking for or how to fix it. A corrupt font, maybe? or corrupt image file?
I had a similar newsletter file last month that I did the CS3 --> INX --> CS2 thing with, and it worked fine as well. I just repeated that process with those old files and it still works, so the problem is with this new file. I'm not using any new plug ins or doing anything really different this month compared to last.
Any ideas? I'd really rather not have to recreate it from scratch, especially if it may not solve the problem -- it'd take a long time and we're in a bit of a hurry.
    Thanks for any help.

I saw the hyperlink in there just by luck -- it was a long document and I was just scanning through, seeing what I could see. I went back to the InDesign CS3 file to remove it via the "Hyperlinks" panel, and resaved as INX, which opened in my CS2.
Unfortunately it didn't open in my colleague's CS2 after all though, which is why we were doing the INX deal in the first place... so we gave up and we're editing it over the phone. Real high-tech.
There really needs to be a plug-in or something next time around, Adobe, or preferably, built-in backward-compatibility like most other apps have. This whole "save as INX" thing is extremely annoying.

  • ADDT CS3 / Kollection CS2

I have Dreamweaver 8 and the latest version of Kollection installed on one machine.
I have Dreamweaver CS3 with ADDT installed on a second machine.
I have a website originally built using Dreamweaver 8 and Kollection.
Can I open and edit the site on both computers even they are running different versions of Dreamweaver and Kollection/ADDT. Or will there be a compatibility issue going back/forth between the two setups.
NOTE: I know upgrading both machines to CS3/ADDT at the same time would be easiest, but it is not an option for me due to machines owned by different companies with different software policies.
    Thanks.

    >>
Once files are opened and altered in CS3/ADDT, can I then open the same files with DW8/Kollection on my DW8/Kollection machine?
    >>
you wouldn´t experience problems with ADDT´s functions and the generated code as such, because the ADDT/Kollection 3.7.1 libraries stored in the "includes" folder are technically identical and haven´t been changed -- but you will certainly not be able to edit stuff that´s been built with other "CS3 only" extensions incl. the Spry widgets.
Beyond the "ADDT vs. Kollection 3.7.1 compatibility" issue I can´t comment on possible compatibility issues between using different DW versions, that is, you´ll have to try that at your own risk.
