CS3 to CS2 conversion black outlines appearing

Hello!
I hope that someone can help, please. Our company has recently upgraded to InDesign CS3. However, when someone saves a file as a .inx interchange so that someone still using CS2 can view it, all the vector image files in the InDesign file then all have black outlines around them. I've seen this as a problem on here with PDFing before, but this is just when the file is opened and hasn't been PDFed at all.
Many thanks in advance.
Helen

Yes, we knew it would never be a breeze, but we've had other people who have been lucky enough not to have problems, so just wondered if it was something we were doing that was causing the problem.
Thanks, I'll try and get a colleague to make a screenshot as I'm just the IT fixer, I'm not actually working on the files in question.

  • Black outline appeared after accidental button mashing.

After accidentally button mashing my keyboard a black outline now appears over anything that pressing "tab" and anything I type in or click on. It happens all over the computer not just Safari, also while scrolling it does not stay with the typing box it says in the same place on screen. While trying to fix it my Apple Menu now has the following options -Force Quit... -Force Quit Safari -Restart... -Restart -Shut Down... -Shut Down -Log Out __... -Log Out __. Also Under Safari and File -Private Browsing... -Private Browsing -Close Window -Close Window -Close All Windows -Close All Windows.
Im sure it can be turned off but how?

You've turned Voice Over on. Command F5 will turn it off. (Or open the System Preferences and look for the Accessibility tab - last in the third row I think)

  • Mysterious Black outline around selected items???

This morning, when I started my computer there is a Black outline appearing around the selected item or window throughout my system... For example; around the icon/folder/file selected in the finder, around the entire Safari browser window, around various items in Mail- the inbox portion, around where the flagged message icon would appear when a message is selected. etc. The same thing is happening in some other programs as well. Everything appears to be working just fine & I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, cleaning cashe, zap P-RAM, etc. Any idea what is causing this?? Is it a problem. or just something screwy that will hopefully go away? Any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Jeremy

Found the answer.. Turned VoiceOver Off. Must have gotten accidentally turned on Last Friday after too many F5 refreshes during the woot!-Off!!!

  • Every single box is outlined after conversion from CS3 to CS2!!!! Plz HELP!!!

    Hi there guys,
I'm quite new to the forum, but I have come through an issue that is weird to me...
See: One of my clients I'm a freelance designer– is an ad agency whose only graphic designer is on marriage vacation.
This guy converted some files from Indesign CS3 to CS2 so I can go on whit the projects while he is out happily just married in Thailand...
The problem is, however, whit every single box, doesn't matter if they are text or image boxes or even empty boxes. Neither if they already had outline or not. They all have somehow come up whit a black outline. And I'm starting to lose my nerves on fixing that...
Moreover, there are some text boxes –footnotes and the like– that contain a web address or an e-mail direction. This "www.xxxxxxxxx.com" and the "[email protected]" stuff is outlined within the text box with the same black line that will disappear only if I type back the thing...
Is this maybe a known issue? Has anyone ever heard or experienced that?
Any workarounds or known fixes or whatever?
Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to read and answer!!!

The outlines around hyperlinks are just visual indicators for you so you'll know they are there (not all hyperlinks show up as URLs) and won't print. You should be able to turn them off in the hyperlinks palette if you want to. If you just re-type the hyperlink text it will no longer be a real hyperlink, if that'st required.
As far as the strokes on everything, I'm not sure. Is it possible there's an object style applied to all of these items and the stroke is now defined in the style. (Does CS2 support object styles? I've forgotten and don't have it on this machine to check). It could also be some sort of translation glitch in the move from CS3 to CS2.

  • Please help -- SHADOWS APPEAR as BLACK OUTLINES when I EXPORT to PDF

    Hi all,
I have designed a product catalog in InDesign. I retouched product in PS and dropped an "outer glow" and "drop shadow" Layer Style onto the products and saved them with a transparent background in a .PSD format. The files were then Placed into the InDesign document.
The pages print just as they appear when I print from InDesign, however, I would like to be able to email this document out to retailers, but when I Export as a PDF, the images with shadows appear as if they are stroked with a sloppy/irregular black line in place of the shadows...
    Please help me resolve.
Could it be due to the compression?
    Thoughts? Alternatives?
    Thanks so much,
    Andrew

    Bob,
I'm sorry for the delayed reply.
Here is the catalog I designed.  If you flip through it, you will see that some of the t-shirts have this black outline in place of the "outer glow effect"
    I am using CS3.
    My workflow was this:
Brought photo into PS > masked out background > deleted selected to Transparent background > Placed graphic in new layer over Tshirt image > Saved file as TIFF > Placed TIFF into InDesign document > Export InDesign document to PDF
    Thoughts?

  • Black outlines around images in pdfs from Indesign

I'm not sure if this is an Indesign problem or Acrobat. I have imported several photoshop files in which I have deleted the background around the figures. The background is transparent. When I make a pdf from Indesign, there is a black outline that appears, tracing the edge of the figures. Does anyone know what might cause this and how to fix. I have imported this kind of file many times with no problems.

Check if they're RGB in PS. I had this problem recently when exporting to PDF. It didn't show in ID file but showed in PDF. I converted to CMYK, relinked, and exported new PDF and the problem went away.

  • Thick black outlines on .swf in interactive .pdf

When viewing an interactive .pdf with a .swf embedded file, all the elements of the animation appear with a think black outline on some windows machines.
    Anyone else have this issue?

Placing a SWF into InDesign, and creating an interactive PDF is a bad hack, or as my friend Sandee Cohen said yesterday, a "kludge."
Those of us who were initially excited about the idea have concluded that it's just not a good idea. The SWF file becomes like a movie file, and you have absolutely no controls over it.

  • How to get rid of black outline boxes persisting on screen

Black outline boxes have started appearing around objects and icons that I’ve clicked on or text areas I've filled in. Sometimes these boxes persist on the screen in its original location until I go to a new program.
For example – in PhotoShop, a black outline box appeared on the vertical slider area and then stayed in the same location on the screen until I switched to Safari – which then got it’s own boxes.
    I have a clear 20” Cinema Display.

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and check if VoiceOver is turned on; if so, turn it off.

  • What is this weird black outline???

What is this weird little black outline surrounding the things I select? It's very annoying and I want to get rid of it. I know I got it when I mistyped a keyboard shortcut. It's happened before but I caught it immediately and got rid of it, and now I don't remember what keyboard shortcut it was. Please Help!
Below are some screenshots of what it looks like and where it has appeared, but it's showing up everywhere and driving me crazy...

Hi Josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The shortcut you want is Command F5, which enables Voiceover in System Preferences>Universal Access.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • How can I stop the black box appearing round a movie?

So I've created a PDF with quicktime movies embedded in it on indesign, and I've taken the black outline off and have the movie automatically playing when you open the page. The problem is when it plays another black box appears round the movie and you have to click off it to make it disappear - it looks unprofessional and if you're in full screen mode this makes it turn to the next page, and we don't want that, do we.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this black box so that it stays without a border when it's playing? I guess it happens because the movie is selected, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the edit movie dialogue box that says anything about it.
    Thanks.

Thanks Steve, we'll look into buying Acrobat X because it would look so much better.
One question though - If I was to sort out the settings on Acrobat X, would the black box still appear when viewed on Acrobat 8?

  • Black outline-problem

i have this black outlike where ever my mouse goes to click on something, i have no clue what it is but its really annoying.
    example:
when i go to click an icon on my desktop theres a black outlined square around it

    Hi, matthew.
There are two possible causes for this:
    1. If you are seeing a black rectangle appearing around interface objects such as buttons, fields, and others this indicates you have enabled VoiceOver. This rectangle is known as the VoiceOver Cursor.
VoiceOver also duplicates certain items in the Apple menu: see "Mac OS X 10.4: Some Apple menu items appear twice."
If you do not need VoiceOver, turn it off using one of the following methods:
    • Press Command-F5
    • In the System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab.
If you need VoiceOver but do not want to see the rectangle, deselect VoiceOver Cursor in the Display tab of the VoiceOver Utility. The VoiceOver Utility is located in the Applications > Utilities folder.
    2. If you see a single black rectangle that follows the mouse around, you have enabled the Preview Rectangle for Zoom. The Preview Rectangle appears if you have the following System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing preferences set:• Zoom On and...
    • ...in the Zoom "Options" sheet:• "Show preview rectangle when zoomed out..." selected; and
    • have set Maximum Zoom anywhere above the minimum setting, i.e. >1.
If Zoom is not required and On is selected, select Off.
    Good luck!

  • Black outlined boxes around selections

    Hi,
Just started up my Imac Intel today and suddenly when I select something from the desktop (as in click on it) or from a menu bar, a black outlined box appears around it. This has never happened before.
I also found that under the apple icon there are 2 restarts, 2 shutdowns and 2 logouts for my user name.
Any suggestions? I'm downloading the OSX update right now to install.
    Thanks
    Mina

  • Annoying black outline

I can't believe I can't figure this out.  My daughters were playing on the computer today and now everything that I click on is outlined in a bold black outline.  I've looked in appearance and can't figure it out for the life of me.  Anyone have a clue how to take this off.  Before, when I scrolled over an area it was just a light square highlighting the area.  It's not hugely important, more just a bother to me but am curious to know how my children change things on here and I can never get them fixed.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Dusty Ann

Go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom on list to left > More Options... button > uncheck "show preview rectangle when zoomed out".
Edit:  This is for Mountain Lion, just noticed you're on 10.5.8, sorry.

  • Photoshop CS3 (nor CS2) won't launch since CS3 install

Since installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium I can no longer open Photoshop. It repeatedly crashes on the launch window. For the sceptical, my CS3 Production Premium collection was all legitimately authorised and registered.
Of the other CS3 apps that installed (can't install Encore, Premiere or Soundbooth on PowerPC) they all open and run perfectly fine.
I uninstalled all CS3 and re-installed CS2. Now Photoshop CS2 won't open either (but everything else is still fine). Exactly the same problem, Photoshop crashes during the launch window.
What has CS3 changed to my system that prevents Photoshop opening and can I correct the issue? From searches on this subject Someone suggested repairing permissions before and after installing CS3. This had no effect.
    Thank you for any help.
//-- edit- the crash seems to happen when 'Building TWAIN menu items' --//

You can try trashing and regenerating Photoshop preferences when you launch.
Hold down command/option/shift while launching Photoshop. You will be asked if you want to get rid of Photoshop settings. Choose yes.
See if this works; you may have to reset some of your Photoshop preferences afterward. I'm not sure why you can't install the other applications.
Also, it may have something to do with activation; did you activate your copy of CS3? You should be able to have CS3 and CS2 both running as far as activation is concerned, but are they on the same drive? This might be a problem if one version is trying to read the other's settings during launch.

  • I want to uninstall Acrobat reader. I got support in the community to access my HD and to send to trash the internet plugs in for PDF viewer, but when I try to download a PDF from internet a black screen appears and preview doesn't open

I want to uninstall Acrobat reader. I got support in the community to access my HD and to send to trash the internet plugs in for PDF viewer, but when I try to download a PDF from internet a black screen appears and preview doesn't open

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
