CS3 uninstall problems

Hi, I have tried getting an answer to this previously, Customer Service could not help me.
I had a copy of Windows XP Pro that crashed and had problems reloading it, CS3 would not work or uninstall as it was no longer showing in the installed software. I left it alone as I planned to install Win 7 Pro. After a clean install of 7 Pro, Photoshop is still showing up in my software, but CC Cleaner is not recognising it. Although I registered my copy of CS3 back in 2008 or thereabouts, it seems Adobe no longer have the records and I am getting 'invalid' for the key number on my software box.
Any ideas on the best way to proceed with this?
Thanks

THis does not make any sense to me.  To me a clean install means you formatted you HD, so therefore nothing should exist.  Must be missing something here.
Do you have the install disks?

  • CS3 reinstall problem - asking for uninstalled CS4 beta

I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.5 Gb RAM running Mac OS 10.4.11. I have the CS3 Suite installed and last year downloaded a beta copy of Fireworks CS4. After using it a bit, I uninstalled Fireworks CS4 with the Adobe uninstaller.
I recently had a problem with Bridge and decided to uninstall and reinstall the software. I uninstalled Photoshop CS3 (in order to uninstall Bridge) and when I began to reinstall Photoshop, the installer ask me to insert the Fireworks CS4 disk! Since I don't have that disk, I hit cancel and the install terminated (I tried this multiple times and rebooted each time)
I then downloaded and ran Adobe's CS4 Cleanup app. It found NO CS4 apps to clean up.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Neil and Buko for your input. Here's where things stand now:
    1) I uninstalled FW CS4
    2) I uninstalled CS3
    3) I ran Cleanup Script
    4) I repaired permissions using Disk First Aid
    5) I reinstalled CS3
The problems with Bridge remained (sluggish, won't display icons properly, won't show a preview image, won't operate the folder list, etc.).
So I called Adobe support. Unfortunately, because I am having problems installing CS3 and NOT CS4, support is NOT FREE. The rep was helpful though -- she pointed me to document number 331594 (Diagnosing Bridge problems) and told me to start there. I followed EVERY step . . . disable start-up scripts, reverted to original preferences, cleaned up the cache, disabled the folder windows, and the problems remain.
    Guess I'll have to pay . . .
Lesson learned: don't trial Adobe software. That's when my problems began.

  • Premiere CS3 Reinstall Problem

I am currently running Windows XP Pro on a Matrox Axio system in which the CS3 Creative Suite was already installed for me upon purchase. As of late I've had problems with Quicktime (Premiere and After Effects no longer see it as a compatible format) and I was hoping that as a solution, I could reinstall Premiere and After Effects from the original discs.
This theory might work but when I get the disc to the Progress portion of the reinstall, it asks me to "insert CS3 Production Premium Disc 1 into drive \\prod\Adobeapps". I don't claim to be an expert but I just cannot figure out what the installer is asking me to do and I'm very frustrated. I tried a multitude of Quicktime-related fixes that didn't yield results and I was really hoping to try this particular fix to see if it works. Does anyone have experience with this error? If so, what was your method of bypassing it?
If this helps in any way, Quicktime stopped working with my system when one day Premiere couldn't get past the CompilerAIFF.prm during the initial program load. I went back a few hours on a system restore and when I got Premiere up and running again, Quicktime was no longer a viable option. I've tried totally reinstalling stand alone Quicktime (and I did use the Windows Installer Clean Up to remove iTunes and Quicktime before the reinstall) and I've tried repairing Quicktime in the Control Panel, and helped. In fact, attempting to repair Quicktime led to a "fatal error on install" and put me back where Premiere got hung up on the CompilerAIFF.prm again.
Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

  • CS1 Install/Uninstall Problems ?

I can't uninstall CS1, nor can can I reinstall Photoshop from CS1, which is presently not installed. My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. I am out of warranty and Adobe will not provide suppport. I have read all I can find about FLEXnet licensing suspecting there is a connection. When I try to either install or uninstall CS1, I get an error message from Microsoft saying that "Adobe CS1 installer has stopped working". There is no other information unless I open the Adobe File folder for Photoshop from CS1 that I saved to my desktop. I can initiate the install procedure from that folder, but when prompted for the original product serial number a message states that the serial number I have provided is invalid. I have talked with Adobe however, and their records indicate that I have a valid serial number.
I have gone to "Services" using the administrative tools in the control panel and tried setting FLEXnet Licensing on manual,  then on automatic, and finally disabling it temporarily. I have gone to the Start Up menu on the desktop and entered "msconfig" in the search box and gone to services where FLEXnet was at first "stopped" and is now "running".
On some forums there are recommendations to first copy and save FLEXnet to another area of the hard drive, then delete it altogether from its original location, and then uninstall ALL Adobe software in the computer before reinstalling everything. Other contributors strongly caution the removal of FLEXnet, and some users have complained of ongoing problems after deleting FLEXnet. Firstly, I'm not sure I can figure out how  to copy and save FLEXnet to another drive, and secondly I'm afraid of the possible results. Even if I can accomplish those tasks I don't know if that procedure will then allow me to either uninstall the portion of CS1 still in my computer, or reinstall the Photoshop that presently won't install. By the way, all the CS1 programs that remain in my computer are operational. Photoshop is the only missing component.
I am not well versed in technology, and much that I read in the forums is only partially comprehensible to me. If you have the patience and knowledge to help me unravel this mess I would love your help. Thanks. Harrison

Thank you Bob. It was very nice of you to write. I have been using CS1 with Vista since Vista came out. I'm aware that compatibility is considered a significant issue. Fortunately, I never had any problems until now, although I would have replaced CS1 with a more recent and compatible version if money were not part of the equation for me.
Adobe told me that if I bought the CS5 they would help me straighten out any issues now caused by the CS1, but otherwise they would not help. I did not think to ask if Adobe has designed CS5 to be compatible with Vista, but I will. I may buy the more recent version out of necessity, but it does not seem unreasonable to me that Adobe should help someone with a valid serial and registration number access their software regardless of warranties. The problem at hand seems to be a glitch in the licensing application provided by FLEXnet that I presume protects Adobe from unauthorized use of their products. I am wondering how much this situation actually has to do with system compatibility, given that I have been using the software for roughly two years with Vista, or whether it is simply that Adobe's FLEXnet licensing shield can work against legitimate users under certain circumstances. Adobe did not mention FLEXnet to me, but I would like to know one way or the other if FLEXnet is at the core of the problem.
Thank you again Bob for writing. I may wipe my OS clean and reload everything. I suspect the CS1 might work then, but I do realize that CS1 is old by technological standards, in spite of the fact that I would gladly continue to use it. I am among those people that find the cost of keeping current very difficult, and I find it exasperating that so many products and services become obsolete very rapidly when considering their relative cost. Have a nice weekend.
    Best Regards,
    Harrison

  • Premier Elements 10 install/uninstall problems (including upgrades)

Unfortunately, Premier elements 10.0 has several installer bugs as it relates to machines wiht previous versions of Premier Elements installed.
    1. It doesn't upgrade the old version of Premier Elements. Doesn't notice. Doesn't tell you. Doesn't warn up of the upcoming problems.
    2. If you later choose to uninstall the older version of PE, then that PE corrupts the install of PE 10. Just for starters, the premier element (prel) files are no longer associated with Premier Elements.
    3. If you then choose to re-install or do a "repair" install of PE 10...you can't. Adobe doesn't have that. 5 years after its possible. Do you have to completely uninstall PE 10 and then reinstall it.
I am having a horrible first day experience with Premier elements 10.

Helo Install_Guru. I believe you misread my post. I never said in my post that you couldn't launch PE10. Instead here are the repro steps and behaviors:
    setup:
    Lenovo T61 laptop w/ T7700 core 2 duo, 8gb ram, 300gb hd
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 sp1 with all current windows updates
    Microsoft Security Essentials
Premier Elements 8.0 (with the incremental PE8 update installated)
    repro
purchase PE10 upgrade from the Adobe online store and download the two files (exe and 7z) using the alternate method
Run the exe. After it decompresses, check to allow it to launch the installer
Proceed to have PE10 installed in US-English. Provide the serial number when prompted.
    Reboot if needed
Verify that PE10 runs. It did successfully for me.
Using control panel, uninstall PE8. Choose for it to uninstalled dependent software
    Reboot if needed
Try to open a premier elements project file
    result:
Fail. Windows has no association for the file and prompts you to search the internet
    expected:
    PE10 to open the project
    Continued repro:
    9. Go to windows control panel to repair the install
    10. Select PE10. Click uninstall/change
    Result:
    Prompts me to uninstall PE10.
    expected:
Have a selection to repair or uninstall the install. Repairs are a technology available for many years now. Also helps customers when they don't have the install media nearby.
    Continued repro:
    11. Run the setup via the 2 files downloaded from the Adobe store.
    12. Select to launch the setup
    Result
    Prompts me to uninstall PE10
    Expected:
Have a selection to repair or uninstall. Sometimes vendors can have more options using the install media, yet there is still only the uninstall option.
    Continued repro:
    13. Choose to uninstall PE10. Note, that the deregister text in the uninstall is vague as it applies to this repro case of re-installing
    14. reboot if needed
    15. Using original two files from adobe store, start the setup
    16. Run the setup via the 2 files downloaded from the Adobe store.
    17. Select to launch the setup
    18. Proceed to have PE10 installed in US-English. Provide the serial number when prompted.
    19. Reboot if needed
    20. Verify that PE10 runs. It did successfully for me.
    Notes:
The customer (me) was never prompted to read the README file. In fact, it is rather hard to know one even exists. You have to manually open the folder created on your desktop (by the 2 file decomp process) and within it open the readme folder and with it find the filename that you can understand. In short, a user will never read the README file because they are not prompted during the setup. Instead, the Adobe Store 2 file setup process guides me with the steps to not read me by the default of Launch Setup, hiding it two folders down on the desktop, etc.
The README file has a section on Compatibility with other versions of PE. Hurrah! However, the content in that section is poor. Sad.
The README file says, "You can have previous versions of Adobe Premiere Elements installed on your computer, but do not run them simultaneously." When I read this, it implies that if I somehow installed PE10 on my computer while a previous one was installed, then I can never ("do not run them simltaneously") use that previous again or something bad happens. If this is true, then don't allow PE10 to install while a previousl version is installed. Halt the PE installer giving that reason. However, if that README note means that I can run PE10 and PE8 (for example) on the same computer but I just can't have both processes open and running at the same time, then the README file needs to be more explicit in the warning. As it is not, it is too vague. Be explicit and generous with your wording.
The README file has no warnings of what happens when PE8 (for example) is uninstalled after PE10 was installed. If this is not a tested or supported scenario, then write that in your README file. If it is tested and supported, then you have the bug I documented above in the repro.
In step 3 of the repro above, I strongly suggest you detect any previous install of PE and warn the user. Allow the user to see the README file *right then* so they can make an informed choice. Tell the user that there are uninstall problems and that they will need to fix it up or do the 30+ minute uninstall/install procedure I had to do.
I hope that this can provide you some insight.

  • Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

  • Uninstalling CS3 created problem with CS4

I kept CS3 on my system even though I've been using CS4 since it was released. Uninstalled CS3 yesterday and since then I cannot call PS4 from Br4/ When I double-click on an image in bridge it brings up the magnifier. The menu option, "File-->Open With" does not show PS CS4 as an option nor does it give me a "Choose File" option. It does list Acrobat, my browsers, and Paint as opening programs.
How can I get PS4 to show as an option here? Have searched all the Preferences but see no way to do it. On a related note -- is my memory faulty or didn't a double-click at one time allow one to open a photo in an external editor?
Oh yes, I can open PS4 from LR, and I can open Br from PS4 via menu or icon click.
    Would appreciate some help.
    JEL
P.S.I found I can get to PS4 from Br4 by first opening a photo in Camera Row and then opening it via the Open Image button.

    Curt:
Thanks. That did it. What I found was that when I uninstalled CS3, many of my graphic formats -- tif, jpg, nef among them -- were associated with Explorer????
How on earth did it decide to choose Explorer? Nevertheless, my double-click from Br now brings up PS4. Many thanks.

  • Install/Uninstall Problems - CS3

    Hello there,
Recently I moved from CS2 to CS3 and installed CS3 successfully. But the next day it started throwing me some error [Don't remember the exact error] and hence I tried to uninstall CS3 to re-installed it again. But I'm not able to uninstalled it.
Then I just run setup.exe and it started throwing me below error.
"You can only install one Adobe product at a time.  Please complete the other installation before attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS3."
Note : I'm not installing any other Adobe product at all.
If anyone please help me to sort out this that would be a big HELP.
    Regards,
    Vishal N.

Try rebooting the machine and retry.
    Restart Windows in a modified mode | Windows 7, Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/restart-windows-modified-mode-windows.html
Try unintalling CS3 using its uninstaller and then run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
May i know the exact version of your OS and which CS3 suite or application are you trying to install/uninstall.
    An error screeshot would help.

  • Bridge won't launch from CS3 - intermittent problem

Hi folks<br />I dont think I am alone in experiencing this problem as a quick google threw up other sufferers but the suggested fix  update everything at the Adobe website  has not fixed the problem, so I am hoping that someone here can shed some light.<br /><br />Problem 1; Bridge will sometimes not open from CS3 - ie when I click on the icon , or if Bridge is set up to open automatically when CS3 opens, I sometimes get an error message that reads <br /><br />error 2:Photoshop is undefined. Line: 1  ->photoshop10.invoke bridge (false, false, );<br /><br />When this happens Bridge will still open fine from the start menu, so it is not disastrous but is annoying because the keyboard shortcut <shift ctrl W   > won't work either (to close a file in CS3 and bring the Bridge window up on screen) - a similar error message is received when using Shift Ctrl W as when trying to open bridge.<br /><br />Problem 2; the fly out menus will not remain on screen.  Eg if I have a layer and want to access the blend mode menu - if I click on the menu in the layer palette the menu appears for a second and then disappears.<br /><br />Problem 3: If I try to create a new action as soon as I click on the "new action" in the actions palette the word "scripts" appears multiple times in the action - it just produces line after line of this until I click the button to stop the action.<br /><br />Problem 4 (may be related to problem 2 ?); in the crop tool - I can't get the cursor to remain in the width and height boxes - so I can't control the dimensions of the crop (which is currently stuck at my last size of 3 x 4 cm - not much use to man nor beast).<br /><br />Most frustratingly of all  - these are all intermittent problems.<br /><br />Things I have tried - updating CS3 and bridge from Adobe site, opening CS3 and bridge before any other program, not running any other program at the same time, uninstalling and reinstalling (after disabling all antivirus etc stuff), but so far nothing works.<br /><br />I am using a 1 year old Dell PC, lots of RAM and hard drive available, only working from internal drives, no new  hardware or software loaded (although there might have been a windows update - but this occurred after the problems started and has not noticeably changed things).  Windows XP pro. Recently done whole system scan for viruses etc and no problems found.<br /><br />Please help, this has been going on since I loaded CS3 a few months ago and it is driving me nuts.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Amanda D'Arcy

Amanda - One consistent recommendation that has fixed a lot of problems, especially if program worked before, and does not now, is to reset preferences. This is not the same as uninstalling and reinstalling, as the preference file is not affected with that operation.
Since it is intermittent problem this will probably not help, but worth a shot.
When it does not work is there some process that is running, like a anti-virus scan, or?
What about startup scripts in Bridge? Disable any you do not need.

  • Adobe CS3 Extended - problem w Bridge - picture displayed wrong in Horrizontal Filmstrip mode

Recently started have problems with Adobe Bridge (CS3 Extended) after it did an automatic update from Adobe for my CS3. The problem is that the panel where the picture appears in "Horrizontal Filmstrip" is now positioned to the far right - partially off the screen; plus, whatever action done previously is showing through the panel area where the picture should have been. Doing "refresh" does not help.
Tried to reinstall the whole program but the problem did not go away.  Then uninstalled the whole Adobe CS3 suite (which includes Bridge); then reloaded the probram; and, then the problem went away. As soon as I downloaded the updates from Adobe again, the problem reappeared. Anyone no what to do?

Did you try to reset the preferences by holding down the ctrl key and starting Bridge?   You will get a reset window, choose all 3 options.
A re-install will not affect this file so if contaminated before it will be contaminated after.
Also, make sure you have the latest video driver, as this affects the filmstrip mode.

  • Adobe CS3  multiple problems

    Product Name: Bridge CS3
    Operating system: Intel Dual Core
    Kind: PC
    4ghz Ram
Problem 1: When I open bridge CS3 I get this message:
This application requires an Intel Pentium 4
Intel Celeron, Intel Core duo or intel core 2
    compatible processor. ( 0/6/5898 )
As mentionned in this message, I have a Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz
    4gRam
Windows Vista 64 bit operating sys
I don't know why I get this warning when I open my Bridge CS3.
Plus I tried to uninstall and reinstall, it didn't make a difference.
I tried to install it in the 64 Bit program files(not the program filesx86)
and it installs it back to program files x86, wich is 32bit.
Problem 2: I don't know how to attach an image in the thread, but my Preview window in Bridge CS3 is messed up, as if the *interactive sector*
of the preview image where you can click and zoom on any picture, was moved 1/3 on the right out of my computer screen. ( If I could upload an image it would be easier to understand ) Is there a way to put all the settings of BRIDE CS3 to Default by deleting backup files or something ?
Problem 3: In Bridge CS3 I cannot open CAMERA RAW by pressing ctrl+r, bridge doesn't react to my command, but it does for any other commande so it's not a keyboard problem because I can use the ctrl+c and v to copy in paste in photoshop. The only way to open Camera Raw is to double click on a RAW image, but what if I want to open a JPEG ? I searched for a `open` key in CAMERA RAW but I didn't see how I could open an image when Camera Raw was active.
I posted in Photoshop since it seems as an overall problem with Adobe Photoshop and other programs.
    Thank You for you time.

Adobe says to ignore problem 1. System has hard time identifying processors, but it will not affect performance.
Problem 2. Most of the problems with preview and slideshow function is with the video card. Have updated drivers and if that does not work go to advanced preferences and check "use software rendering".
Problem 3. If you right click on image and select "open in camera raw" does that work? If you double click an image it should open it in the native format, whether it is in RAW, Jpeg, tiff, etc.. Don't know why Ctrl + r does not work, in fact until now I never knew that was an option to open an image in camera RAW, I always right clicked.
Not sure what you are getting at with "open JPEG with RAW active".

  • CS3 Synchronization Problems (Entire Site)

The following problems occur when I attempt to synchronize my
entire site (954 files) using DW 8 Windows, DW 8 Mac, or DW CS3
Mac. (If I select a group of files, synchronization always works as
    advertised.)
    1. If I tell DW to synchronize the entire site (in either
direction) and specify that it should delete files, synchronization
eternally builds a file list. DW doesn't hang; I can cancel out of
it and continue to use DW.
    2. If I tell DW to synchronize the entire site (in either
direction) without specifying that it should delete files, DW most
often incorrectly announces that no synchronization is necessary.
Immediately afterwards, if I use the icon on the top left of the
    files panel and select
Edit | Select Newer Local or
Edit | Select Newer Remote, DW correctly identifies the
files that have changed. I get the same behavior if I do those two
things in the opposite order. In other words, DW simultaneously
knows and doesn't know which files are newer.
Is there a fix or a workaround?

I dunno. Go into DW8 and EXPORT the site definitions with
    their login info.
    Import them into CS3.

I have just purchased CS5.5 Master Collection and have successfully installed the software that I wanted to install at this time -- no problem.  Before I installed Master Collection CS5.5, I uninstalled CS3 which was on the computer -- I did not deactivate it.  I ran the uninstall program as instructed and it took perhaps 20 minutes to supposedly clean everything out...I was pleased.  However, upon restarting the computer and going to the applications folder, it seems that all of the CS3 folders still remain, taking up room.  So, I ran the clean up software to clean out those files -- they are are still there.  Uninstaller and the clean up program both show that CS3 is removed, but the files remain in Applications Folder.  Can I just drag these remaining CS3 folders to the trash and get rid of them that way?

    Dear Jeff,
CS3 has been replaced by CS5.5, so I assume that CS5.5 is all that I need.  If I drag CS3 to the trash to remove it, will removing it that way remove any files that CS5.5 needs?  Bridge CS3 did seem to have locked permissions, so I unlocked it, but it still doesn't appear anywhere for me to uninstall via installer.  I also have an older version of Photoshop Elements 3 that I kept active for use of NIK filters, and that one doesn't appear anywhere either in Adobe Uninstaller -- can I drag PElements 3 to the trash without getting rid of any needed files?

  • ID CS3 & CS4 Problem

So I was running InDesign CS3 on XP Pro, fully updated. My computer had a random BSOD, no useful information there. Opened back up everything, and none of my Indesign files will open. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc all work fine and dandy, but Indesign will freeze while opening the file. No error messages, other than the not responding in task manager.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restoring to all of my original fonts, even downloaded a trial copy of CS4. Nothing is working. Does anyone have any solution or have you seen this problem? It also seems any Indesign files that were on the computer (I've replaced it since as it had other problems) won't open, not just the recent ones.
    Thanks for the help!
edit to add, cause I forgot to mention:
I have had some very tiny amounts of luck. I've been able to open Indesign up (not consistently). At first it was trying to recover a file, and after sitting overnight it was able to recover it apparently. So I closed everything and rebooted to try again. It's not trying to recover anymore, but today I let the computer take 8 hrs or so to do its thing, and it was able to open the file.

Sorry that it was not quite readable. Yes, I have started with a completely different computer and install of windows and adobe products since I originally had the problem.
These problem files are stored on the local hard drive. I'm able to create new files once it opens (takes a long time to open just indesign) and save them, reopening isn't a problem it seems, with a tiny empty file.
This morning I was working on a larger file as it opened overnight. Another bit to add to the information here, once it was open, everything seems to be working well. When I hit save however, things freeze up again and I apparently have to wait.
    Thanks for your help!
