CS3 uninstall utility not running

I'm trying to uninstall & remove all CS3 items from my macbook pro (upgrading & switching to Creative Cloud) but when I attempt to open the uninstall utility provided with CS3 nothing happens after being prompted to enter my mac user password. I'm reluctant to just drag it all to the trash to uninstall due to the potential depth of the adobe software. Also, my CS3 was never formally registered on this mac, so there shouldn't be a deactivation step that I should need to go through first, right?
Notes: my mac user password is correct, I'm operating on macbook pro Mountain Lion v10.8.3
Is there some sort of wall that mountain lion has up against the uninstall utility?
Thanks, y'all.

You are correct in the location of the uninstaller...applications/utilities/adobe installers...that leads me to the item "Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium" I opened that and was prompted for my mac user password...upon entering that in, nothing happens. Why? I would like to avoid downloading & using the CS Cleaner Tool as I've already downloaded the Creative Cloud Photoshop software & don't want to erase that as well and have to download that all over again. Unless I'm wrong and the Cleaner Tool won't whipe that from my computer.
You would think that this uninstaller would work as it should.

  • CS3 Uninstall does not remove files

I have just purchased CS5.5 Master Collection and have successfully installed the software that I wanted to install at this time -- no problem.  Before I installed Master Collection CS5.5, I uninstalled CS3 which was on the computer -- I did not deactivate it.  I ran the uninstall program as instructed and it took perhaps 20 minutes to supposedly clean everything out...I was pleased.  However, upon restarting the computer and going to the applications folder, it seems that all of the CS3 folders still remain, taking up room.  So, I ran the clean up software to clean out those files -- they are are still there.  Uninstaller and the clean up program both show that CS3 is removed, but the files remain in Applications Folder.  Can I just drag these remaining CS3 folders to the trash and get rid of them that way?

I'm working on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    Dear Jeff,
CS3 has been replaced by CS5.5, so I assume that CS5.5 is all that I need.  If I drag CS3 to the trash to remove it, will removing it that way remove any files that CS5.5 needs?  Bridge CS3 did seem to have locked permissions, so I unlocked it, but it still doesn't appear anywhere for me to uninstall via installer.  I also have an older version of Photoshop Elements 3 that I kept active for use of NIK filters, and that one doesn't appear anywhere either in Adobe Uninstaller -- can I drag PElements 3 to the trash without getting rid of any needed files?

  • Disk Utility not running & disk utility icon changed?

    Hello.
I have an 8 month old MB, 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, 160 GB HD, running 10.5.5. I normally do the updated from Apple when the updates come out.
Anyway, I was trying to reformat/erase an external hd; I didn't see the Disk Utility icon on my Dock. I had used Disk Utility before (last time was maybe a month or two ago). Turns out the program is on the dock, but it has a icon (a piece of paper with a pencil, brush and ruler in the shape of an A). I click on it, it jumps once and does nothing. I figure it needs to be reinstalled, but the DVD that came with the computer says I can't install OS X on this computer.
I booted from DVD, ran disk util from there and fixed permissions. still same issue. Also noticed that the Airport Utility now has the same icon (a piece of paper with a pencil, brush and ruler in the shape of an A), but the name is in an Asian language.
Any thoughts on how to get disk utility working and what is going on?
    Thanks

The icon on the dock is not the utility; it is an alias, a link to the actual utility.
Look in your Applications->Utility directory to see if the real Disk Utility is still there or not.
Ditto with Airport Utility. Is the real one still there?
    Let us know.
You may have a corrupted preference file or a failing HD.

  • Permissions Repair in Disk Utility not Running

Hi, when I repair permissions in Disk Utility, the barber shop progress bar just keeps on going forever. I have to stop it each time, but I would like to be able to repair permissions.
There are no errors or anything, just says "Repairing Permissions for Mac HD"
Does anyone else have this problem...what is going on?
    Thanks,

Someone goofed up the UI. I just ran DU a couple of times, watching what was happening in it, and what Activity Monitor was reporting. At first the main process, using about 95% in the CPU column, was something called "installdb" (whose user is shown as "_installer")--the spinning barber pole was showing. After a couple of minutes that process vanished, and "repair_packages" kicked in, still the spinning barber pole, this process showed as using about 75% in the CPU column. After about a minute or so it abruptly finished and vanished, and the barber pole turned into a progress bar which filled almost immediately. The time it takes to do its thing may vary, but a minimum of about 5 minutes is evidently quite normal. So go take a coffee break and see if it does indeed finish in 5 to 10 minutes.

trying to launch photoshop cs3 on a mac running OS10.6.8 i keep getting the error message: Licensing for this product has stopped working  you cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT adminstrator or Adobe customer support for help
I already Uninstalled and reinstalled the product and it still does not work.

    Hi,
Try to uninstall the software again and you have to manually
    Delete the following folders:
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher/
Go to Applications-->Utilities-->Disk Utility, Open it and Select the MAC HD and then click on Repair permissions.
After that try to run the cleaner tool as mentioned by kglad.
Restart machine and then try to install again.
*** Make sure , you only delete these folders if there is no other adobe applications installed on the machine. As if you have any other Adobe application of the suite ( not free applications ) then it will be a problem.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 will not run

I reloaded my windows xp 2005 (?) and tried to load my CS3 software.  It will not even run.  It has been suggested that the software can only be reloaded a certain number of times.  I have reloaded this software 3-4 (?) times over the years.  Is this the problem or is is something else?

Don't think there is a number of times you can re-install your program.  You can only have 2 activated copies, so if you move to a different machine and don't deactivate on the old one it is still considered an activated copy.
But why would you uninstall and re-install your copy?  THis rarely solves problems, espeically if you do not run the Adobe Script Cleaner.  Also, the preference file is unchanged on a reinstall, so if there were errors in it before, they are still there.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Why will firefox not start on my laptop? can't uninstall or open the profile manager either. it simply does not run. it used to work fine until i had to restore my system.

had firefox 4.0 & have been a user of firefox for a few years now. never had any problems. had to do a system restore after my computer detected a virus of some sort & i couldn't do anything. the virus kept popping up a bogus add for me to buy an antivirus program. had to restart laptop in safemode to initiate the restore. ever since then firefox has not opened. can't even uninstall it or open the profile manager. anything that has to do with firefox will simply not run/open at all. i'm stumped.

System restore can cause problems as well as solve them, it has probably completely mucked up your Firefox installation.
Try deleting your Firefox installation directory, the default location on 32 bit Windows is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
Now re-install Firefox, it should pick up your current profile folder so you should not lose your bookmarks, passwords etc.

I get an error message saying that firefox is running and you can only run one at a time. I have uninstalled multiple times and can't figure out what is running. The is only one Firefox installed and it is not open. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

At my PC startup, I get an error message "AppleSyncNotifier.exe--Entry Point Not Found"  My iPhone now doesn't show up as a Device in either iTunes or My Computer on my PC. I've uninstalled/ reinstalled iTunes & run diagnostics-no luck. Ideas?

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • Installed iTunes 11.0.4.4 64-bit but window 8 pro 64-bit in task manager reports that iTunes is 32-bit.  Why?  Not running in compatibility mode.  Uninstalled and reinstalled.  Same result.

Installed iTunes 11.0.4.4 64-bit version.  Now windows 8 pro 64-bit reports iTunes as 32-bit in task manager.  Why?  Both my computer and operating system are 64-bit.  ITunes is not running in compatibility mode.  All my music files are MP3.  I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded iTunes64setup.exe from apple and still having the same result.  This was a clean install by-the-way.

Since installing Yosemite my Quarkxpress 10 is not running correctly. Too slow or crashes. How do I uninstall Os X Yosemite without losing all of my designs?

    Thank you Thomas
First, for changing my question to the right forum. I am new on this and wasn't aware I was in the wrong forum.
Secondly, even though my initial question is not answered as in: I just want to remove Classic, what you say is right. I think now, after writing my long question and seeing your answers, that I should start from scratch.
To answer your question, I bought the new drive to be able to store and back up into DVDs and CDs all the photographs and movies that are still in the computer. I also need to make CDs of my portfolio since I am trying to find a new job and buying a new Mac at this point is out of the question. To upgrade the computer: I just do not have use for OS 9 anymore; I cannot upgrade to the latest Java, Safari or have issues with Flash or other programs; the programs that I have and need will still run perfectly fine or better in Leopard. And even if I could buy another computer I would still like to hang onto this computer for a while.
