CS3 Upgrade to CS4

Hi  I am currently running with CS3 but I am intending to upgrade to CS4.  As I am often in the US I note that the upgrades are far cheaper than in the UK.  I was therefore looking to buy my upgrade in the US however I was wondering of there would be any problems updating a UK CS3 with a US CS4.
Thanks

Although I’m quite impressed with some of the CS4-features, you might want to consider putting the investment off for a bit because the release of CS5 seems to be widely expected to happen this year (no official notification yet, though, as far as I know).

If you mean EOS 5D Mark II you would just have to do a routine update to PS 11.0.1 and ACR 5.2

  • CS3 (on Windows 7) upgrade to CS4

    Hello -
I currently have CS3 Master Collection running on Windows 7 64bit Ultimate RC. I know that CS3 is not certified to run on 64bit systems and yes I know that my version of Win 7 is a beta build.
    So my question is:
    - Once I get the *real* Win 7 OS later this month, would it be ok to install CS3 on there and then the upgrade to CS4?
    ...or
    - Should I install a Win XP 32bit OS, install CS3, upgrade to CS4, then upgrade to Win 7?
I realize any which way I go, I'll have to de-activate, wipe clean the HDD, and then reinstall with whichever methods you experts recommend. Or maybe some other way you all can think of that I may not be seeing here.

I understand your point here BUT.....
....your method that you are describing sounds to me like I have to purchase a FULL CS4 version rather than an upgrade version....correct? Or does the upgrade version just need the serial / registration / activation number, code or whatever from my current CS3 and not necessarily be installed?
So here's what I was thinking that I could do:
    - Buy Win7
    - Install on new HDD
    - Install CS3
    - Buy CS4 (UPGRADE Version)
    - Install it
    - Start using it!!
    Your thoughts?

SHOULD I KEEP THIS OR BUY ANOTHER ONE WITH 64 bit  I WANT TO USE ADOBE cs3, and will upgrade to CS4  soon.  i use primarily dreawweaver and i want to learn graphics and want to do tons of multitasking

Seems like you have very much overkill in certain areas and not enough in others. If you will be running Dreamweaver, you don't need a lot of RAM! If, on the other hand you will be using Photoshop, you need a lot of RAM. I've been using Photoshop since 1992 and the more RAM the better, up to about 6 GIGs, then it really doesn' make much of a difference. As for the Graphics cards, not sure why you need 2?? I use Photoshop professionally and have never needed 2. As for the RAM, the graphics cards have their own RAM built in and it should not rob from you system. I use a Quad processor HP running Vista 64 bit. Photoshop flys, as do my other programs. However, I will tell you, if you change to 64 bit, be prepared to upgrade most all of your software, and on top of that, a lot of software is not capitable with 64 bit at this time. I played Hell getting my system set up running 64 bit. If you are not going to be using Photoshop, which is RAM hungry, you do not need more that 4 gigs of RAM.

  • Upgraded to CS4 but CS3 not completely unistalled

I had the CS3 Master Collection, which was recently upgraded to CS4. Before the upgrade, I kept getting message that the Illustrator wouldn't update. All other apps in the collection updated just find. The CS4 upgrade ran just fine. In addition a CS3 uninstall ran to completion. The system has since been booted a number of time.
I am still getting messages that the CS3 Illustrator is trying to upgrade and can not. Also, I still have a set of icons in my startup menu for the old CS3 with the icons disabled.
Any advice on how to fix these? I am running Windows XP. There is nothing in the Control Panel; Add/Remove Programs list to run related to CS3 any longer.

Try downloading ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com and running the registry
    cleaner in that.

  • Procedure to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 without retaining CS3

I am running 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro. I now have Photoshop CS3 on the MBP. My Photoshop CS4 upgrade DVD just showed up in the mail, and I can't wait to use it.
I would like to install CS4, retain the preferences and presets from CS3 (Photoshop, Bridge, Camera Raw), and get rid of CS3 from my hard drive.
I was unable to find directions on the DVD, Adobe's site, or the forum. I found references to the importance of uninstalling CS3 first before installing CS4 (installing CS4 first and then uninstalling CS3 supposedly would remove some support files required by CS4 and require the reinstallation of CS4).
But if I were to uninstall CS3 before installing CS4, how would the CS4 installer be able to find evidence of CS3 on my MBP, which I presume would be required for the upgrade to work? And, how would I be able to retain my preferences and presets from the Photoshop, Bridge, and Camera Raw in CS3?
I realize from reading some of the posts here that some people prefer to have both CS3 and CS4 on their computers, and others want to only have CS4. I am in the latter camp.
Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I can't edit that but I will report what happen.
It now appears I either logged in as a different user , did an archival reinstall of my system before install the CS programs or the installer will only allow you a one time install and you have either install everything or you have to install all the CS3 programs you intend with that one install.
That would mean I have uninstall the one of the programs of CS3 I have installed and reinstall that and photoshop CS3 at the same time.
Though CS4 install is much more robust there should be a way to install the last version as well. Eventually there will be no disk or even a download but there has to be a formula and reasonable policy for uses who need to use the current as well as the older version of Adobe software.
However no matter how or why this eventually manifest itself it does and I think it should not.

  • Upgraded to cs4 can I still use cs3 on a different computer

I upgraded to cs4 from cs3. Can I continue to use cs3 on another computer?

You can. But if you cannot have another person using the program at the same time you are using CS4. You can even have CS4 on two computers, as long as it is only one user at a time.
Many people keep both CS3 and CS4 on their computers because they might need to fall back to the older system because of a bug (when the program is new) or because they can do something quicker in the old version, at a later time.

  • Adobe CS3 (32bit) upgrade to CS4 (64bit)

I currently run Adobe CS3 on a 32-bit platform, Windows XP Pro.  Due to recent hardware failures I am purchasing a new computer.  I plan to upgrade my hardware to support 64-bit Windows XP Pro.  I also want to upgrade my CS3  to CS4, to utilize the 64bit support.
Since CS3 does not install on a 64bit platform, how can I upgrade to CS4 on my new 64bit machine, or is this even possible?  I'm worried that I may have to purchase CS4 instead of upgrading due to compatibility issues with CS3 on 64bit machines.

I have vista Biz 64 bit on my new unit. When I try to install master collection CS3 on it the install happens and Bridge Acrobat and OnLocation work. All other programs say I need to re-install or there is a catistrophic failure on my license sub system. I tried switching to XP service pack 2 compatability but still can't get my other programs to start. Adobe customer support just refers to its memo about MC CS3 not supporting 64 bit but then says it should install if I go to a32 bit comp mode. please give more info if possible.. thanks

  • Trying to Upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended

I am trying to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended.  The Adobe web page states to call Adobe support for this upgrade.  I call them before I attempt the upgrade to ask what I should do.  They tell me to intall it and call back.  I get to the serial screen and call back, they tell me to fully install it in trial mode, then call back.  I do this and call back, but notice it installed CS4 Extended, not CS4.  They tell me they can't help me because I purchased only CS4.  That is all I want is CS4, so I uninstall CS4 extended and try again.  Again the install(from disk) installs CS4 Extended(At least that is what the title page says).
Do I need to uninstall CS3 Extended before I install the CS4 Trial version?
    Thanks for any help,
    bdriscoll

    Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply.  You are correct and the next support person understood that and got it fixed.
    thanks again for your reply,

  • Free upgrade to CS4 from CS3.3?

    Hi,
I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and am thinking about upgrading to CS4 when it comes out.
However I have noticed some sites advertising Free upgrade to CS4 if you purchase the upgrade to CS3.3. Is this free upgrade to CS4 valid if I upgrade from CS3 to CS3.3 now? As I read somewhere it is only valid if you are upgrading from an earlier version?
Or, if I upgraded from CS3 design premium to CS3.3 master collection, would that allow me to get the free upgrade to CS 4 Master Collection?
    Thanks,
    Nellie

    Dear Bob,
I have a difficulty to understand what you are writing.
First you write that the release of Acrobat 9 would be a red flag... I guess you mean that if Adobe extend a suite with additional software this means that another Suite is close? I understood it to be a intermediate release in order to keep customers happy until a new release was ready, but that period would be long and therefore the intermediate release was necessary. As of today I understand that you and Adobe have a better consensus in this matter.
Why did we not need CS3 for 17 months? Well if you read my posts you would have noticed that we have had Design Premium CS3 since release but things change in the world and with a new employee needing Master Collection to correspond to new prospect customer demand we had to purchase a new seat. However, to find out upon opening the box that CS4 is launched and that our new customer was going for that release, whereas we had paid full price for an obselete software, thereby loosing customer(not yet though, lets hope Adobe and we come to a agreement), unless we pay another 1k doesn't make us happy.
If we had got the info that CS4 was close we wouldn't have purchased CS3.3 since we then would have the possibilty to discuss the matter with our prospect customer and both could have waited for CS4 release. Meanwhile we could have handled shortterm stuff with our CS3 Design P.
How to handle this in the future. Well either we all users have to continue our search on internet and on forums to find out what the rumour is...
... or Adobe put progress reports on their official website about next release planned in x months. I write planned since I understand that writing software usually takes more time than planned, but at least it should not come to a situation where a release is launched earlier than the rumour in forums etc.
Any other suggestions to Adobe how to handle releases?

  • Upgrade from CS3 Extended to CS4 (non-Extended) fails

    Hello everyone,
I looked at the upgrade method from CS3 Extended to CS4 it tells me I need to contact Adobe via phone and purchase the upgrade.  After receiving the upgrade, I attempt to install it and it informs me that it cannot find a valid Photoshop install and asks for version and serial number of my previous version.  It only give me the options of Photoshop CS, Photoshop CS2 (all the languages), and finally Photoshop CS3. No option for CS3 Extended.  So I give it CS3 and plug in the serial number and it says invalid serial number.
Called Technical support and spent 30 minutes waiting.  They had me do 'Ctrl+Shift+Double mouse click" to get a "Challenge Number" which does not work.  Then they said I had to call Customer support to get this Challenge number.  Called Customer Support and spent 1hr waiting...and still waiting.
So, can anyone help on how I can upgrade?  I'm guessing they were suppose to give me a serial number to upgrade.
I finally gave up with the phone support and filed a support case online...which said I should get a reply within 3-days.
Very disappointed with Support.  After paying over $1k in products, I would expect good customer support...but that's for another forum
    Thanks.

Well, after getting so fed up, I finally figured it out.  But first I have to tell my story of frustration.
So, after calling Technical Support, their instructions to get the 'Challenge Number' by pressing Ctrl+Shift and double-clicking on one of the INSTALL screens did not work.  So, after a total of 44 minutes (most of it on hold), I was told to call Customer Service at 800-833-6687.  I called them and spent 55 minutes on hold.  When someone finally answered, I told them the story, and they told me to do the exact same thing, press Ctrl+Shift and double-click to get a Challenge Number.  I said, "Technical Support told me to call you guys to get my Challenge Number".  They said "we are Technical Support.  Please contact Customer Service at 800-833-6687 to get your Challenge Number".  I WAS ANGRY!
I than asked to speak to a manager. 10 minutes later, the guy came on and said that his manager was busy on another line!  He then promissed me that I should be able to get to "Customer Support" quickly this time.  After being very direct, stating that I do not want to spend another hour on hold, I asked him that there must be something else that they can do to fix this problem...nope.
So (sorry if you've read this far), I called the number AGAIN and was on hold for 40 minutes...then it turned 5:00PM Pacific Time!  ARG!
SO, THE ANSWER to the problem on getting a Challenge Number.  You must install the software on a trial basis FIRST.  (not during installation as Tech support tried to have me do.)  After installation, start CS4 for the first time, and it will come to Software Setup and ask if you wish to continue using it on a trial-basis, or if you have a serial number for the product.  Put in the serial number for CS4 and click Next.  The next window labled 'Upgrade Check' is where you press Ctrl+Shift and double-click to the the "Challenge Code".  Why Technical Support did not know to do this really bothers me.
Well, tomorrow, I will be contacting Technical Support at 6am to get this working.
And if it was a matter of pressing Ctrl+Shift and double-clicking, why was I required to purchase the software to be shipped?  I could have saved on shipping and tax if I just downloaded it the way I wanted to in the first place.
Well, thanks for reading.  Hopes this helps someone.

  • Upgraded to CS4... Arial now missing in CS3

A few of us in my company are testing Snow Leopard and CS4 before upgrading the entire department. I was blessed with my new machine, programs and OS this Friday, and in the midst of the transition I'm still working in CS3 because of a Tuesday deadline. With multiple people, CS3 users, accessing the same files for various edits and use (i.e. people familiar with these programs and people who are definitely not) we felt it would be easier to begin saving as an InDesign Interchange once the storm blows over. This will allow us proper time to explain to those individuals that the "INX" file is not a corrupt file... it will open just fine in CS3.
My issue involves the fonts we use for these files. When told that until next week we need to do our updates in CS3, feeling there would be no issues, I opened the file in CS3 and was told Arial TTF was missing. Strange, since before I upgraded it was fine. I found that my system had Arial OTF, so I replaced the TTF and saved a version on my desktop. After testing it with a random employee, it showed up as "missing" when she opened the file. Of course, I knew what the outcome would be, but testing it was my first thought.
I understand how to replace missing fonts.. but that's not an option in this case. These particular files, like I said, are used throughout the company. Until we upgrade everyone, continuing to use Arial TTF would be ideal. At the moment, in the midst of our deadline, I'm destined to deal with updating the files with a missing font in CS3 and printing in CS4.
Once we begin saving the "INX" files from CS4, will I be able to use the accepted OTF on my machine, save an Interchange file, and have every TTF user open it on their machines with no problems? Or are our new machines, programs, and OS simply not going to be compatible with TTF --- only OTF? Once everyone has upgraded, using OTF across the board should eliminate any issues, although most outside of the art department will only upgrade to CS4. They will not have their OS upgraded. Until we cross that bridge, can the four of us CS4/Snow Leopard users simply deactivate the OTF and active a TTF? I haven't had time to test at work. Since upgrading late Friday, I have returned home frustrated, trying to figure out a solution before I return this weekend.
The joys of testing... new OS, new CS, new iMac = priceless. Resolving conflicts, not so much.
Any suggestions or insight would be highly appreciated!

    Jayscee wrote:
I've had the same problem of missing Arial TTF fonts since upgrading to Snow Leopard.  I'd always used Arial TTF and still have Arial TTF fonts in the system library and my library font file, but InDesign 4 only finds Arial OTF.  If I delete the OTF fonts then it finds the TTF fonts, it just doesn't seem to cope with having the two fonts - it's one or the other.
I find it's a real pain in the arse with old files that used TTF fonts having to be converted and not being able to copy and paste between new and old files.  Even using "find font" and "replace with"Arial OTF only replaces the actual characters, there are still spaces left which when typed in results in the Arial ttf font being used which of course then gets highlighted as a missing font not found.
I can't believe that supposed upgrades are so buggy.  If anyone nuts out a real fix I'd love to know what it is as swapping fonts from folder to folder has not worked for me.
I feel your pain. I'm beginning to think it's their way of making everyone buy the new product! Ha.

hmm... i wonder if that's "official" or if the installer just doesn't check. i still have cs2 installed on this box, as well as cs3 ee. the rep said that didn't matter as far as the terms of the license went though. (i still say that's not clear and is up for interpretation.) i still haven't decided which i'm going for. the point of my query with the online rep was really to get it cleared up once and for all.
do you still have cs2 or cs installed there too? or just cs3 ee and cs4 standard?
    thanks for the info nick.

  • CS3.3 purchase UK from Amazon - free upgrade to CS4?

I want to purchase CS3.3 in the UK.
Have spoken to Adobe Customer Services and they say I'll get a free upgrade to CS4 if I purchase from them. Anyone know if there's a deadline for doing that? They added that CS4 ships on October 15th in the UK.
