[CS3][VB] Unknown spread property KeepTogether in CS3

Hello,
I used in CS2 the spread property "KeepTogether". This is a boolean type with r/w access. It controls whether the pages of the spread should stay together.
This property is now missing in CS3.
Is there any workaround?

You should now use the AllowPageShuffle property. This change is consistent with the UI change. In CS2, the Page's palette offered "Keep Spread Together" and so the property was Spread.KeepTogether.
In CS3, the comparable command in the Pages panel is: "Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle" and so the object model has been changed.
Inconveniently (for users) they've used exactly the same property name as is used in DocumentPreferences and so the description (for JavaScripters, anyway) in the OMV is pretty unhelpful:
Spread.allowPageShuffle
Data Type: boolean
If true, guarantees that all new spreads added to the document contain a maximum of two pages. If false, allows pages to be added or moved into existing spreads. For override information, see preserve layout when shuffling.
I wonder where we're supposed to find "preserve layout when shuffling"? And clearly, this is a description of the document preference, not the spread option.

I Reinstalled Premiere Pro CS3, loaded a project I edited using CS3, and NOW I get jagged edges!

Hey everyone. I was using Premiere Pro CS3 to edit some footage I shot with my HPX170 in 1080i 24p Advanced. The P2 footage looked great in Premiere CS3. I upgraded to Premiere CS5, imported the same exact project into CS5 using the same 1080i 24p Advanced setting, and I got jagged stair stepping edges on the objects that were in sharp focus in my footage. Okay, I thought, I'll just reinstall Premiere Pro CS3 and continue editing the footage in CS3 since it looked normal in CS3 with no jagged edges. But, to my surprise, I'M GETTING THE SAME EXACT THING NOW IN PREMIERE PRO CS3!!!! What in the heck is up with that? How can the footage look normal when I imported and editied it before in CS3 and NOW I get jagged stair stepping edges?!!!! I even tried importing a fresh clip from the footage and that clip still has the jagged stair stepping edges. This makes no sense whatsoever! Does anyone know what's going on with this? It seems like an interlace artifact problem BUT, if that's the case, why didn't it do this the first time in Premiere Pro CS3? And trust me, I would have noticed right away if it did!

Hey Shooternz. Which exact playback settings are you asking about? I set the one of the playback settings to "Highest Quality" instead of "Automatic" and nothing changed. I unchecked 24p Pulldown in the "Interpret Footage" section and nothing changed (I don't even remember "24p Pulldown" being in the Interpret Footage section the first time I installed CS3, which is strange. Was that added in an update?). I tried different sizes like HD 1.5, HD 16:9, etc. in the Interpret Footage section and the jaggies are still there. Nothing seems to work. ??? This is weird because they weren't there the first time I edited the footage in CS3 when I installed CS3 the first time. One thing I noticed is, when I installed CS3 the second time and loaded the project, as the project was loading, I got a message that said something like "These project settings cannot be loaded. We will now switch to Desktop Mode." Would that have something to do with it you think?

CS3: "an unknown error has occurred"

There is “an unknown error has occurred” dialogue that pops up when I try to save, this time when I enter text. I also had an issue when I copied the text as a smart object into photoshop and then editing that smart object in illustrator that says that the items are created in an older version of illustrator (even though they were not) and needing updating.
I have reinstalled, removed the adobe illustrator cs3 setting folder, cleared the registry. This is on a windows vista machine.
Any thoughts or advice? System Restore only goes back a few days, and this issue started 2 weeks ago or so.

This might be a permissions problem s you might have to reset the permission on the directories folder s and files which Illustrator is following to get to you files or to the place you want to save the files to. It may be related to any fonts you recently install or perhaps used for the first time. it may have something to do with you Font Cache files which might have to be deleted.
It could be a corrupt font.

Photoshop CS3 (nor CS2) won't launch since CS3 install

Since installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium I can no longer open Photoshop. It repeatedly crashes on the launch window. For the sceptical, my CS3 Production Premium collection was all legitimately authorised and registered.
Of the other CS3 apps that installed (can't install Encore, Premiere or Soundbooth on PowerPC) they all open and run perfectly fine.
I uninstalled all CS3 and re-installed CS2. Now Photoshop CS2 won't open either (but everything else is still fine). Exactly the same problem, Photoshop crashes during the launch window.
What has CS3 changed to my system that prevents Photoshop opening and can I correct the issue? From searches on this subject Someone suggested repairing permissions before and after installing CS3. This had no effect.

You can try trashing and regenerating Photoshop preferences when you launch.
Hold down command/option/shift while launching Photoshop. You will be asked if you want to get rid of Photoshop settings. Choose yes.
See if this works; you may have to reset some of your Photoshop preferences afterward. I'm not sure why you can't install the other applications.
Also, it may have something to do with activation; did you activate your copy of CS3? You should be able to have CS3 and CS2 both running as far as activation is concerned, but are they on the same drive? This might be a problem if one version is trying to read the other's settings during launch.

I just upgraded to CS5 from CS3, the ftp worked for me in CS3, but not in CS5

I believe the settings are the same but when I transfer a file up to the site, it appears to get truncated. The web page appears blank, and when I use the browser to view source there is barely 1 line of html.
When I transfer the same file using Windows Explorer logged into the ftp site, the file transfers and the web page displays properly. What did I miss in the new confuration?

Windows explorer? Really? Plenty of other FTP solutions out there.
Anyways, there is a new setting in CS5 but it should be disabled if the site was defined back in CS3. Manage your site and edit the FTP server information. There is an arrow for More Options and the new option is for FTP Performance Optimization. Try disabling that and see if you are able to transfer files again. If it is not, you should click on Site->Advanced->FTP Log and consult with your host the result of the log.

CS3 & CS4 loaded on Leopard. Can CS3 be uninstalled safely?

I have the complete CS3 design Extended & CS4 Design Extended loaded on Leopard. Can CS3 Extended be uninstalled safely? If so what's the correct way to do it without impacting my CS4 Extended and LightRoom 2.2 installations?

You might want to wait and make sure that everything works the way you think it should. For instance - printing to Epson printers from CS4 and Leopard is impossible using the Epson drivers if you are expecting the same results you got in CS3. It doesn't hurt to have more than one version on your system and can sometimes help.
If you really want to take it off, you can use the uninstaller on the original install disk.

Working on CS3 files using CS4; resaving backwards to CS3.

Currently I am working with CS3. This file needs to be updated by a colleague using only CS4. Pls advise what is the best methods/steps/ precautions she must take ensure that no links are lost etc; and how she should resave backwards to CS 3. Thanks

All that needs to happen is that she needs to export the file to InDesign interchage format (inx) so you can open it. If she is editing any links at all she should also package it up afterwards and you should rename your links folder to force Indesign to use the new folder.
Be aware that going from version to version like this can cause problems so back up your files. Also text will likely reflow between the versions. It's not recommended to do this all the time for these reasons.

Upgrade from CS3 to CS5 - won't accept my CS3 serial number

I own a copy of Fireworks CS3, and I purchased an upgrade copy of CS5 for my new Windows 7 computer. When I go to upgrade and enter the serial number (checked very carefully) from my CS3 package, the system says the number isn't valid. Not sure what to do. . . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

CS3 to CS5 upgrade - can't install CS3 on new mac first

I originally purchased CS3 years ago, then upgraded to CS5. Today, I purchased a new Mac OS X 10.10 and it says I need to first install the CS3 and then go through the upgrade again. Problem is that it will not install CS3 because it is not supported on the new operating system. So what to do?

There is no need to re-install CS3.
All installers (full and upgrades) contain the full program code. The serial number tells the installer if it's a full version or an upgrade.
Just install CS5, enter the CS5 upgrade serial number then the CS3 serial number when prompted.

XGestures on OSX with AE CS3 won't function, but with Photoshop CS3 it functions fine. . .

Is anybody out there using xGestures for the Mac OSX 5.3.2? I am able to get it to function properly in Photoshop CS3, but not in AE CS3.
Are Photoshop CS3 and AE CS3 built on different platforms for OSX? That is, is one a Carbon app and the other a Cocoa app? That may be the reason Photoshop works with xGestures and AE doesn't, but xGestures is said to support both kinds of apps. Any thoughts?

Will After Effects CS3 on a PC be compatible with CS3 on a Mac?

I am currently using Adobe After Effects CS3 at home on a PC. I was wondering if the project file from the PC version would be compatible with the Mac version of CS3.
Is there a special format that I need to save the file as, or will it just be compatible without any changes?

Project files are cross-platform. Nothing special to do. Of course the usual limitations apply: external files may not be found due to different folder naming mechanisms and fonts get substituted, if not installed on both platforms.

Contribute gurus? CS3 blanks pub'd pages; updating from CS3

I am trying to find a Contribute guru, to-wit: 2 months, ago, my admitrtedly older CS3 suddenly started blanking web pages upon editing & "publishing" them. I want to try to uninstall and reinstall CS3 first ...and then, if no luck, try an update version. Opinions? And if updating, can I safely jump from CS3 right to CS5, or even CS6? Any considerations to keep in mind?

Incopy cs3 changes won't update to indesign cs3

Just the second time using incopy and indesign. First time, worked like a dream. Now the overall configuration is still the same but we have probs.
Changes made in indesign cs3 WILL update to incopy cs3
Any changes made to text in incopy cs3 do not update to Indesign.
I have checked folders permissions since incopy is on a pc and ind on a mac. Seems right from the mac side.
I am worried that I first saved the indesign document in a non shared folder, then realized my mistake and saved it in a shared folder. Could this be the problem?
I made assignments by exporting text and graphics.
We're on deadline and I'm going crazy.

Several years ago I upgraded to CS3 to CS4. CS3 was not removed. Can I uninstall CS3?

For both CS3 and CS4 the better capture tools are:
For HDV: HDVSplit
For SD: Scenalyzer
This may avoid the need to reinstall CS3 and possibly messing up some registry keys.

The CS4 installer doesn't touch anything in CS3 with the possible exception of Acrobat. So, to answer your question, yes, you can keep the old CS3 apps installed.
