CS3 with Camera Raw wont read Canon 1DM3 images

Appreciate any help with this vexing problem
MacBook Pro V10.4.9
CS3 Extended
Bridge 2.1.0.100
Updated to Camera Raw 4.1
Have reinstalled Camera Raw 4.1 Plug-In into correct folder several times:
"Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats" per Adobe instructions
Removed previous Camera Raw plug-in
Reopened Bridge and it still wont show images
Went to tools and Purged the Cache - no change
When I double click on the preview a Photoshop message appears
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I can view the images with Photomechanic
Can open images with Canon's Digital Photo Professional but I dont like that program
Again any help appreciated
Best
Jay

Jeff
You were right on the money !
The camera was recording sRAW images
- this despite the fact that it shows RAW on the camera and the file icons are labelled RAW
I changed to 'true' RAW and Bridge and CS3 work just fine
Thanks again
Jay

I've just installed CS6 creative suite mainly for photoshop CS6. It comes with camera raw 7.0.something, but need something newer to use my canon 6d. When I download camera raw 8.5 and install the raw converter doesnt work anymore, wont even open or isnt available anymore in the plugin list. Tried to reinstall everything for a few times, but nothing helps.

When I search for updates the raw converter doesnt get update automaticly. Frustrating, is costing me the whole morning.

Witch I clearly don't have . And my Photoshop have to different camera RAW plug-ins. The old 8.4 and the new 8.7. But it doesn't work. Have removed and reinstalled several times. What is going on? • Just upgraded to 10.8.4 and now can't open canon raw files in photoshop cs5 with camera raw plug in 6.7

i've just upgraded to os 10.8.4 and now i can't open canon raw files in photoshop cs5 with camera raw plug in 6.7 which worked perfectly prior to the upgrade....anyone else encountered this issue?

Adobe's software is a mess in terms of the fact that it's sprayed all over the place and may not survive an OS upgrade.  Try reinstalling Photoshop CS5.

  • Problem loading large DNG images with Camera RAW!

    Hello,
When loading large DNGs with Camera RAW 4.4 (for example, DNG dimensions are 9984x6656) CS3 says "cannot open the image because this is not a right kind of a document". EXACTLY THE SAME file is loaded without a problem using Camera RAW 3.7 and 4.0 (did not test other versions). Have you specially prevented loading of large files? Wouldn't it be better to provide this as an option? It's a real disappointment - new version of plugin CANNOT do the thing that older versions CAN. (Simply using older version is not an option, as I need to load RAWs from new cameras, like Canon 450D).
Dear Adobe, please correct this problem :)

It might be wise to give some insight like how the DNG was created, by what version of what software, if ACR is hosted in Photoshop or Bridge... What platform you are using, how much RAM, memory allocation, etc.

  • Problems with Camera Raw 6.7 after upgrading to OS 10.8

I've been using Photoshop CS 5 with Camera Raw 6.7 on my MacBook Pro with no issues until I recently upgraded to OS 10.8. Now my Canon CR2 files (shot with a Canon G15) won't open.  Does anyone know of a solution or work-around for this problem?

thanks for the prompt response...i appreciate it.  according to the link you listed, that's correct.  the strange thing is that prior to the upgrad to mac os 10.8.4, photoshop CS5 was working just fine and i was able to open my canon raw files with my current camera raw plug-in version 6.7 which adobe has indicated is the last camera raw update they'll be offering for cs 5
so it's clearly an issue related to the "upgrade" of the os.  seems like every solution creates 6 new problems...further evidence for the notion that if it ain't broke don't fix it!  thanks again.

  • Raw Workflow PS CS3 and Camera Raw 4.5

    Hello
I just started working with raw files, that's why I'm not sure about the best workflow with Camera Raw 4.5 and Photoshop CS3. My aim is to post process in raw 4.5. and in CS3 with as less quality loss as possible.
So when I finished the processing in raw 4.5 do I have to save it before I can continue working with the file in CS3 and in which format am I going to save it? If I save the raw file as psd, will I have quality loss? After post processing in CS3 what is the best format (for quality) to save it (there is no DNG possibility).
Thank you very much for your help!
    Sarosa

You will probably get a lot of different answers your question because everyone has their own preferred workflow. Generally speaking, however, I think it is best to do as much of your postprocessing in Camera Raw as possible because it is nondestructive. You do not have to save your image to a different format before you start working on it in Photoshop. By clicking the Open button in Camera Raw, any changes that you have made are stored as metadata, and then the image along with all those changes is opened in Photoshop. Once you have the image in Photoshop you are now going to be editing the pixels of the image directly. And once those types of modifications have begun you cannot save the image as a raw image or a DNG file. It will be necessary to store it in a different format. I think good choices are either as PSD or TIF because either of these formats will save your work without doing any damage to the image data. From either one of those formats you can create JPEG or any other type of image that you need when required. JPEG images are saved with a type of compression that can, over time and through multiple saves causes your image to deteriorate.
In summary, you always have your raw images to go back to if necessary to start over. Use PSD or TIF to save your working files in Photoshop. And only create JPEG images from those PSD or TIF when they are required for the Web or for e-mail, etc..

  • Can´t open files with camera raw

    Hi!
I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 and the option to open files with Camera Raw is disabled in Bridge and in PS.
    Can anyone help?

While each situation can be different this has been discussed on several threads. Scan down the list or do a search. If you can't find the answer, post a note.

  • 10.9.5 with camera raw 5.07 not showing .RW2 and DNG but showing .CR2 previews in finder

Even with the latest OS and latest camera raw, only my Canon raw image files display proper previews in the finder, and open properly with iPhoto and Photoshop.  .RW2 and .DNG files will not show previews or open with iPhoto, and .RW2 files won't even open in Photoshop without being converted to DNG.  I've combed the support community questions for over a year now, am tech support oriented, and am ready to throw in the towel.  I've had this same problem with previous system versions and camera raw versions, so I know the solution lies with neither of the two.

I'm having exactly the same issue and I posted on Adobe's site and dpreview and StackExchange but nobody has the final answer. I can see thumbnail previews in finder with ALL my various Raw files (Olympus OMD EM1, Panasonic GH2 and GH3, and Nikon D5300) just fine but when I use the convert to DNG feature in Lightroom (latest version since I'm on the CC subscription), only the Nikon DNG files display a preview thumb in finder and neither the Oly or Panny DNG files display. The closest I got to an explanation is that, since the m4/3 cameras do their profiling in camera and Adobe doesn't have a profile for them, some of the info isn't converted into the DNG in those systems. The article I read about it was really about Aperture not being able to read the Adobe DNG files but it may also explain why Mac finder can't show preview thumbs.  Aperture 3: Some DNG images display as unsupported - Apple Support
If there is no way to get preview thumbs in finder with the converted RAW files from my GH3 then I'll forgo converting for now.
    Here is my Nikon DNG
And my Panny DNG (Oly is the same)
Panny RAW shows up just fine
    As does the Oly ORF

Thank you for the imput.  I don't know what you mean when you say LR doesn't use Adoble Camera Raw.  My LR2.7 is able to process raw files from my 20D.  I don't care if it does it with ACR or some other processing software.  The issue is whether whatever software is used by LR can be updated to deal with new camera raw files.  It is pretty annoying if it cannot be.  I would even pay a reasonable amount if that were necessary.
ACR is a plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements which enables users to work on raw images from supported cameras. All of that technology that is in that plug-in is part of the Lightroom program, the plug-in is not used by Lightroom. ACR must be updated approximately 4 times each year in order to add support for new cameras and to make other changes in the plug-in. In order to get those changes in Lightroom, it is necessary to upgrade the entire Lightroom program. Interim releases are made available to Lightroom users who have purchased the program. For instance, if you purchased Lightroom 2, then versions 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. are all available to you at no cost. But when Lightroom 3.0 is released or 4.0 is released, then it is necessary for you to purchase an upgrade in order to continue to get the updates.

  • Camera Raw update for Canon 5D Mark III

Where is the camera raw update for the new Canon 5D Mark III?

It doesn't appear that it is available yet.  You will want to utilize Canon's software for now.  I would recommend continuing to review http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html as it has a list of all supported and soon to be supported cameras with Camera RAW.

  • CS4 Extended with Camera Raw Reinstalled on New Computer (old one died) will not open CR2.

I had CS4 Extended installed on an HP laptop that recently died.  I have a Canon 5D Mark II and have been using camera raw with CR2's off of that camera for at least 2 years.
I still have the disks so I reinstalled the Photoshop on the new computer.  Now I can't open CR2's.  It says the file type is not correct. Same program, no freaky updates so why won't it recognize them?

The 5D Mark II was first supported in Camera Raw 5.2
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
CS4 shipped with Camera Raw 5.0 so by re-installing CS4 you've reverted to Camera Raw 5.0 which cannot read 5D Mark II Raw files.
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
In CS4, click Help > Updates to re-install Camera Raw 5.7 and you can once again edit 5D Mark II Raw files.
