CS4 10.6 Canon ipf6100 printer issues: profiles, plug-in, driver

The relevant hardware and software are listed above plus the most recent photoshop plug-in from Canon. As of two days ago, all was up to date.
Although some Canon Tech Support reps (but not others) have been surprised by this, I have been getting good prints using the plug-in. I have more trouble printing from anywhere. PS isn't great, Lightroom is incomprehensible. I'd like to hear about others' experiences.
I bought the printer from Lexjet, and frequently, but not always, use Lexjet Paper. Lexjet publishes different ICC profiles for printing through the plug-in, than it does for printing through the driver. As far as I know, no other paper manufacturer does this, and that includes Canon. Does anyone know if the same profile should work the same regardless of driver or plug-in? If not, which profile do most manufacturers furnish?
Since some of the easy layout functions are only available through the regular printer driver, I'd like the option of using both. And I certainly have a number of other papers that I would like to use. Short of tedious testing, or special profiling, has anyone addressed this problem before?
Thanks.

You might be better off asking your questions here.

I have found only very slight differences using the same profile printing from the driver as opposed to the 16-bit plugin. Back when we could only print 8-bit files from the driver there could potentially be more of a difference. It seems to be the common thought that if you choose "Fast Graphic Process" in the driver that your using the same process as the plugin, but since I have not tested this and have my doubts.
But, I always create a different profile for the plugin than I do for the driver and also based on the quality settings.
I am running the iPF9000 here.

  • PS CS5 Export to Canon IPF6100 print plug-in

Just installed PS CS5 upgrade over CS4.  Within CS4 have Canon plug in for printing (File/Export) to Canon IPF6100 printer, however it doesn't appear under EXPORT in CS5.
Under Edit/Preferences/Plug-ins I browsed to the plug in folder. Then restarted CS5 as instructed. No go, so rebooted. Although it is shows up in preferences, am still unable to have this plug-in operational. I reinstalled the driver/plug-in. Appreciate any help!....Thx...

    Found the work around solution.
    This applies to CS4 / CS5 upgrade.
    Navigate to C:\programfiles\adobe\adobe photoshop CS4\Plug-Ins\Import-Export
Here you will see your Print plug in file.  Mine was "Print Plugin for iPF6100"
Expand the same path to the Photoshop CS5 import-export folder.
Drag (copy-don't move) the plug in folder into the import-export folder.
    Restart or launch PS CS5

I have a new Mac book pro - I have used my Canon 400D camera with my Canon MX850 printer for 6-7 years with great results.  Now my images look great on iPhoto but do not print clearly.  It is disappointing as I bought the laptop with the retina screen for my photography.  What can I do to get me images up to standard?

    Jenniferann48,
have you installed the most recent PIXMA MX850 driver for Mavericks from Canon?

  • Xerox, Win 7, Adobe printing issues

HELP...2 New computers are Windows 7 with CS4 premium on one and CS4 Standard on the other
PROBLEM: None of our Adobe files will print correctly to our 2 Xerox printers (7750 and 6350). Even though page layout is correct the documents are printing extremely reduced. We have downloaded and installed the Windows 7 Drivers from Xerox -- but this did not correct the problem. Also it is only the Adobe products (All) that don't print correctly. Big problem for a small design firm.

PLEASE!!!! Is there anyone I can talk to about our problem with CS4, Windows 7 & and Xerox print issues. The Adobe software is the only one that seems to have a problem printing and since replacing our Xerox printers (7750, 6350) is not currently an option,  I need a resolution.
We are a small design firm and I have 4 licenses for CS4.  We generally upgrade every other version -- which means we would be investing in CS6 when it is released. I know we are small potatoes in the Adobe world, but this is business and I can't imagine (just looking at all of the threads online), that someone is not working to find a fix for this.
We have downloaded and installed the latest Win7 drivers for both printers. This did not resolve the issue.
HELP -- This is very frustrating. Right now we are saving everything as JPEG files to print -- not a good solution for a graphic design firm.

  • Canon LBP6200 Printer not working anymore after update to 10.6.7

i dont know if this is to do with mac osx or canon's printer
i try reinstall the driver but it just dont work
obviously, apple need to work with canon to solve this problem
hope for a update coming soon enough
    cannot live without my printer

I bought a Canon LBP3100 three weeks ago. It was working fine until I updated to 10.6.7 this morning. I spent a good part of the day talking to Canon and Apple support. It is clear there is an issue with the driver under the latest operating system. Canon said they didn't even know there was an update out and hadn't a clue when a fix will be available. Apple advised me to reinstall 10.6.6 which I am reluctant to do. In the meantime I'm left without a useable printer in my office. So much for customer service. Something has gone badly wrong somewhere.

  • Adobe printing issues

We have a situation in which we need our adobe program to default to a different printer than the windows default printer.
    Example:
We have a dot matrix printer set as windows default printer. We have to keep this as the default printer because we use a program called ADP and it has to have this printer as a default to work.
We also have a color laser printer that we print with one of our websites that uses adobe. The website automatically prints to which ever printer is selected in adobe. We do not get an option to change it. So it always prints to the dot matrix printer.
We have found a trick in which we can open adobe, print to the color laser printer, and go to the website and print and it will go to the color printer, but we have to do this all the time.
Is there a registry entry or something in which we can change the default printer in adobe? I have read about something with adobe remembering the last printer used but I think it is in version 8 or higher.
Unfortunately, we current have to use version 7 due to some incompatibility with a website we work with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Canon MF4150 Printing

I just bought the Canon MF4150 Printer. I plugged it into the Airport Extreme N Base Station. The base station recognizes the printer as the 4100 series and identifies it as the Canon printer.
When I try to go into Printer Utilities and add the printer, in the default browser of the print utility under system preference I see the printer and it shows the connection type as "Bonjour". I try to add the printer, but it requires drivers. I downloaded the drivers off of the Canon website, but it doesn't seem to work or recognize printing over wireless or bonjour.
The selection box "Print Using" Does not contain the proper drivers, but only contains the Mac OS X GIMP drivers. What can I do? When I connect the printer directly via USB, the Canon drivers that I installed "UFR II" appears.
I really want this to work!!! Any ideas?? Is there a way to get this printer to print over wireless connected directly to the Airport Extreme Base Station?

My setup was similar to yours. In the printer browser it shows the Canon MF4100 series, I selected it, and it shows
Name: Canon MF4100 (which is correct)
Location: "My Airport Base Station Name" (which is correct)
Print Using: "Please select a driver or printer model"
The "Print Using" seems to be the problem. I don't see the drivers that I loaded for the USB, and I tried "Auto Select" but it bounces back to "Please select a driver or printer model". I tried using one of the GIMP, but it does not work. I also tried "Other" and a dialogue box popped up allowing me to choose a driver. I looked everywhere for the print driver, but there wasn't a single file I could select to get it going. Any ideas?
BIG SIGH, This is a Mac, and I love it! Why does Canon make it so difficult?!

  • Problem Printing to a Canon MX700 Printer

I have a new Macbook Air (love it) and I want to print to my Canon MX700 printer. I have the driver properly installed on the MBA and I can print a test page to the Canon MX700 from the MBA. However, when I send an actual file to the printer, it never goes beyond the status of "spooling" in the print cue. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks much...
    v/r,
    - Collabman

Thank you for the feedback. I should have mentioned my Canon MX700 is installed/connected to a Window XP desktop. The printer is being shared across my network and can be seen/printed to from a Windows laptop on my network so from the windows side, it is good to go.
I deleted the MX700 printer and re-added it by selecting "add printer or scanner." However, the printer only shows via the "windows" view (4th icon), where I can navigate/access it accross my network. I can add it, select the driver and install it just fine.
Still no joy printing an actual job to it though...
    Thanks much...

  • CS4 Indesign Printing issues

Hi, We have a new Mac Pro Tower we just purchased with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. We are using Adobe Indesign CS4 Version 6.0.6. This canon printer has worked seamlessly when we had Leopard 10.5 using CS4. It's only been since we received the new Mac Pro Tower. The Canon printer has a Fiery attached and we use the latest driver for that Fiery. All the images in this file are .tiff's. The user does have Pre-Flight on and the Print Preset: Custom, Printer: Canon Color Printer, PPD: Canon iPR Server T1 Ver.1.0. I set up the printer in the Print & Fax Dialog using the IP address, with LPD Protocol, Queue name blank (as we never had to really use one in the past). and Print Using the iPR Server T1 driver. Rebooted the Mac, ran disk utility from the CD. I have been working on this issue for a couple of days now and found many troubleshooting tips on the internet but none have worked. Is there something in the new OS X Snow Leopard that is not working with CS4 Indesign now? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!

What fonts are you using? Are they PS Type1 by any chance? The update to 10.6.7 has introduced some problems with the older Type 1 fonts. Do a Google search for Mac 10.6.7, Type 1 font problem to see some discussions.

Soution: Delete the printer and add the same printer back in, therefore creating a new print queue.

  • Print issue with Photoshop CS4 and Officejet 6500

I have a Windows 7 Business 64 bits desktop computer. After  installing the Officejet Pro 6500 multifunctional drivers all was  working OK. Images were being printed nice and with the correct size  using Windows print option. After installing Adobe CS4 suite, all images  printed from windows or Photoshop have incorrect size (photoshop prints  it smaller, about 33%, and on upper left corner of the sheet).
Photoshop sucks but Illustrator print fine. The only way I can print  at the good size in Photoshop, it's when I select Microsoft XPS  document writer as printer and print from there... Not very user friendly !!!
And  yes, it was always the HP Officejet 6500 E709n fax selected by default  by Photoshop instead of  HP Officejet 6500 E709n !
Is anybody can say if it's an HP issue or an Adobe issue ??? Why Illustrator print fine and Photoshop don't ???
    Thank's  in advance.

Deleting the fax printer  associated with this device to allows correct printing is not an  acceptable alternative for me.
If it is a printer issue, why I can print correctly from Illustrator ???

Or: you can go into windows and select a default printer or then the one you use to print with in PS. Then when you are ready to print in PS select the printer. See if that works.
That's my normal configuration then I can't change nothing when all is ok.
Thank you very much for your answer ! Maybe anybody have an other solution or explanation.
    Thank's for your patience.

  • InDesign CS4 Printing issue

    Hi:
I use InDesign CS4 in my job as a church office manager. I print bulletins that are usually 3 letter-sized pages, landscape, 2-sided, and newsletters that are 2 11x17 pages, landscape, 2-sided. I'm working in Mac OS 10.5.8.
Until today, I was using a fairly old HP 8100dn printer. When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 last summer, I found a strange thing: I couldn't print duplex on letter-sized paper from InDesign. No matter what settings I selected, the printing would not duplex. As a workaround, I had to export everything as a PDF and print from Acrobat, where the duplexing worked fine.
Weirdly, 11x17 duplex printing worked correctly from InDesign.
I never solved the problem, but when I posted this on the forum last summer, one responder said that it might have had something to do with the 8100's age and its PostScript Level 2 emulation.
Just today, my office got a new(er) printer, an HP 8150dn. This one has PostScript Level 3 emulation.
Precisely the same problem. Letter-sized won't duplex from ID; 11x17 will. Exporting letter-sized documents to PDF and printing from Acrobat is once again the workaround. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it is a bit of a hassle.
Does anyone have any sort of idea about why this is happening, or better, how it might be fixed?
    Thanks much,
    GT
PS: ID won't duplex when printing in portrait orientation on letter-sized paper, either.
Message was edited by: It doesn't work!

Well, I fixed it, I think… I googled "Printing issues in Mac OS," which led me to install Gutenprint 5.2.5 — whatever the heck that is — and suddenly duplex printing worked in both landscape and portrait on letter-sized paper.
Unfortunately, and yet not at all surprisingly, I now couldn't print to 11x17 at all. No matter what I did, the printer used Tray 2 (letter), or told me to put custom paper in Tray 1.
So, as a last-ditch attempt to resolve this before I jumped off the roof, I reset the printer to its factory defaults and deleted all traces of it from Mac OS's Printer and Fax window.
Then I created one new printer called "8150 (Gutenprint)" using the Gutenprint driver, and one called "8150 (11x17)" using the default HP driver, both using the same IP address. Lo and behold, when I select the one, I can print duplexed on letter size, and when I select the other, I can do the same on 11x17.
I don't know if this is the sort of thing that a real tech-head would condone, but it finally seems to work. Since I'd never be printing to both printers simultaneously, I figure I can live with this.
If anyone cares to explain to me in layman's terms what Gutenprint is all about, I'd love to be educated…

  • Canon IP3000 printer profile problem in Lion

I have a Macbook Pro with Lion installed on it. I was given a good working Canon IP3000 printer, and decided to hook it up to my laptop. I found the Canon website driver for it and installed it. Once I open my Photoshop CS5, and go to print, I see the IP3000 in the window, but it crashes Photoshop every time. I found out it is not compatible with Lion. I tried as much as I can to delete the profile from my system, Colorsync folder, etc. I searched for Canon and IP3000, and nothing is left.
    Question,
1.why is it still showing up when I open Photoshop? It's still crashing Photoshop.
    2. Is there a third party printer profile that will work with my IP3000 and Lion?

The driver files would have been added to /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters. If you haven't done so already, you may want to remove the contents of this folder.
When the printer was created, files from the above folder would have been copied to hidden directories, such as ./etc/cups. Removing the printer from Print and Scan should have removed these files but there may be a remnant or two that is causing the crash. A reset of the printing system should help clean this up.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4297
Note that this action will remove all devices from Print and Scan, but not the driver files in /Library/Printers, so you will just need to add the printer again.
As for a supporting driver, since you want to print from Photoshop then I would recommend you purchase PrintFab
    http://www.printfab.net/
This will give the best results, providing you are using Photo paper.
One last thing. The iP3000 is old and is not going to give great results compared to newer models of printers.

  • CS4 Printing Issue

I am running into situations where the following error message appears when I try to print out of Photoshop CS4:
Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer.
This seems to be document related as I can have multiple documents open and some will print fine on both of my printers while the one that generates this error will not print at all. I tried saving one of problematic documents, which was a .tiff, to both .psd and .jpg and it still got the error when I tried to print it.
I also tried printing the same document out of Lightroom, while it was open in Photoshop, and Lightroom printed it without any difficulty.
I looked around on the web and found plenty of posts related to this message, but most of the advise ran along the lines of reinstalling print drivers or Photoshop. Knowing that most of the time I do not get this error - it is only with certain documents - I can't see how any of these suggestions would help.
Can any one advise on this?

Both TIFF and JPEG retain the printer metadata. This doesn't solve the issue. You would have to save to a "dumb" format like BMP or TGA that by spec doesn't support any such metadata.
