CS4 Action Script display problems

I've just used Flash CS4 for the first time after using CS3 for some time. When using the Action Script window to write code I had the strangest problem. When writing or pasting code in the AS window the last couple of letters or characters get cut off. I checked my preferences and they were they same as they were in CS3 (just to be sure). Both CS3 & CS4 both have the Monaco font as the default. I solved the problem by changing the fint to Arial. Now the AS displays properly.
Wondered if anyone has seen this happen and if they knew if it was a bug or something?
I'm using CS4 with a newer MacBook Pro and sing AS2 in this project.

first button is called Enter and it is btn1 in the libary, i would like that to navigate to scene 2 frame 1. this was a graphics and i converted it to a button have also tried making it a movie clip it still doesn't work. the second button is Autobiogtaphy and it is btn2, i would like that to be navigated to the frame 10 and the frame is called About. I have CS4 and i realised all the stop actions worked when i saved it in CS3 and opedned it back up so since then i have been using that format. im also using AS3 if that makes any difference.
So i realised i haven't been much help on details hope this helps

Indic script display problem - Open Office PDF export does

I am trying to create a PDF document using iText (a Java library) and I found out that Indic script specificaly Malayalam Language Unicode is not displayed properly. Ligature substitution and reordering is not working at all. (See attached image1.png)
However, Open Office does display the text properly (see attached image2.png)
and when I export this document to a PDF document, the text in the PDF is fine (See attached image3.png).
I am suprised at this bevahiour. The font I am using in all the three case is FreeSerif.ttf, which has support for Malayalam language and has the Open Type tables that is required for ligature substitutions.
Please help.

One difference I noted is this -
Document Property (Fonts) of the PDF with problem shows FreeSerif , True Type (CID), Embedded
and Document Property (Fonts) of the Open Office Exported PDF shows Free Serif, True Type, Embedded SubSet

Toolbar actions & glasspane display problem.

I have weird problem. I wrote a calendar application. In the weekly grid, i draw Appointments. I also have a menuBar and a toolBar that have items/buttons for New Appt, Edit Appt, Delete Appt.
the buttons on the toolbar and the items in the menuBar are linked to the same AbstractAction code.
when I click on Delete in the menu, it works fine. but when i click on the delete button in the toolbar, it will delete the appointment, but all the other appointments that were on the page are no longer displayed, i have to refresh the applet to see them again.
i don't understand how the actions in a menubar and a toolbar will lead to different results if they reference the same block of code.
while screwing around with everything, i've noticed that if i do a glassPane.setVisible(false) (inside of the actionPerformed() in DeleteAction class) before executing the delete code, the other appointments don't disappear. but if i do a glassPane.setVisible(true) after deleting the appointment, they disappear again.
anybody got some ideas of how to resolve this problem or what may be the cause of it? thanks

I ran your code on Java8b91 (OS X 10.8) and it seemed to work fine.
Maybe I don't know what kind of error I'm looking for.
The site you point at is pretty big, so it's hard for me to say what may or may not be wrong with it.

If you could replace the webEngine.load method with a webEngine.loadContent string and in the string just place the content which you are having issues with, it might help someone help you track down any issues you have - otherwise I don't think you will get any help.

CS4 psd file display problem

For some reason within the last few months a problem with the colors that Photoshop is displaying in the application. The colors are not actually wrong if you check the color picker, it's just how it actually looks when you're working on it. In addition, when you are moving the tab in Photoshop if it's not maximized, the color is correct.

Actually that was only half of it...next is to see if an updated video card driver can fix the problem permanently. Check with the GPU manufacturer's site (ATI/NVidia).
What happened was probably that Windows update delivered a buggy (and outdated) driver. Next time check "hide this update" and it won't show up again.

CS4 minimize / maximize display problem

I have ID CS4, Windows XP Pro SP2. Matrox Millenium P650 PCIe 128, latest driver. (updating the driver made no difference)
If I minimize the program, and then maximize it, only the panels appear, not the main program window. (this happens not every time, but very often) Sometimes only the control bar appears; I can then bring back the panels one by one by clicking on the screen, but not the main window. (I have all the panels on a second monitor)
I can close the program with Ctrl+Q. If there is an open document, I can hear the sound for the Do you want to save dialog, but the dialog itself can't be seen. I press N for no, or Y for yes, and the program closes.
When this happens, all other open programs become unresponsive, until I manage to close ID.
I also have Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS4 installed, and they do not have this problem.

I occasionally have problems when opening the program, i.e. I see only a tiny title bar in the upper left of my screen, but I can get it to maximize from the task bar, and it only happens on opening.
I've not experienced any issues closing down. I run XP SP2, but only one monitor. Re both monitors running at native resolution? This sounds to a degree like the old problem with dialogs drawing off-screen.

CS4 v10.0 Action Script window Text overlapped

I just installed CS4 Production bundle, and have been
entering in an Action Script to load a movie. When I type the word
'loadMovie', the automatic feature performs the word completion,
but the cursor is not adjusted to the end of the text, and the
result looks 'jumbled' and virtually impossible to edit.
The same result if I use the 'Script Assist' where the line
generated looks 'garbled'.
I have no clue what the problem may be.

code on the last frame of your movieclip instance:
_root.gotoAndStop('whatever_frame'); // will work unless this swf is loaded into another swf. in that situation, you should use a relative path to the main timeline (eg, _parent or _parent._parent etc).

Problem with action script from Schewe and Frasier book.

I am working on a Photoshop CS3 action script to
open raw files, do a couple of modifications
in Camera Raw, exit camera raw and save
the file as a jpeg.
I think this should work, because I am working
on an example out of "Camera raw with Adobe
Photoshop CS3" by Schewe and Frasier which
shows the step recorded.
See page 344 of Schewe and Frasier.
In figure 9-11 you see, after the open
statement, 10 lines of details like
"As camera raw"
"Model:Canon 350d" etc.
I get the file path and name line, but
none of the other details reflecting
actions in Camera Raw.
The problem is that in setting up the action, none
of the steps done in camera raw after I do the
open get recorded.
And it works in my old CS version !
Out of frustration I repeated the action
script creation in my old CS version and
it worked fine.
Any idea where I am screwing up ?

Crappy format justification:
I sometimes have a day of family
type pictures that are in raw format
that I want to put up on the internet
quickly. I would like to be able to
apply the "Auto" feature, as in general
it seems to be pretty good for something
quick.
OK, it sorta works in CS, go here

"As camera raw" but opens the .dng file
rather than the Camera raw window.
The point is, these important settings
seem to be saved, which does not happen
in CS3.

My CS4 crashes when opening a new action script 3

Hello folks,
I’m new to Flash and am currently taking a class, so please forgive me if this turns out to be an obvious fix, but I’m using flash for the first time and have been trying to open a new flash file: action script 3 but haven’t been successful cause the program immediately crashes. I’ve checked to confirm that my laptop meets the requirements so I’m not sure what it could be.
…Any suggestions? I’ve attached the error reports.

Thanks for the reply Ned. It does crash when opening AC2 also. And I do have the most current updates. Correction: it does open under "guest" user account in both ac2 and ac3.
FYI. the other apps in CS4 work in my profile. And my laptop is new and meets the standards to run the app.
...Any suggestions? I would be most greatful for any feedback in correcting this issue.

each time I added it link 1 to the button on file i get these error messages-
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: link1.
1180: Call to a possibly undefined method link1.

The way you had your code originally would be correct...
var link_one:link1;
link_one = new link1();
addChild(link_one);
The 1046 error is indicating it doesn't recognize the link1 class. So the first thing you need to make sure of is that you have assigned the link1 class designation to whatever symbol that is in the library.

Action script with reference to root causing problems in Captivate

Hi All,
I just inserted an animation into Captivate and it seems to
be working as intended; however, i receive a warning stating that
action script referencing "root" may cause the Captivate project
not to work properly or at all.
Has anyone experienced such a problems coming from action
script reference. It appears to be working fine, so I'd rather not
touch it if I can get away with it.

If you run into issues there is a technote on Adobe.com that
will advise you
on how to remove or work around using _root references.
Ideally you would
never refer to _root at all.

Problem with action script calculations

I have a simple action script 3 code that will not calculate the correct answer on my PC. I'm running flash cs5 on Window 7 OS. I can move the file to another machine running flash cs4 and it works, but when I run it on my laptop, I get funky answers. see cold below. I have uninstalled and reinstalled cs5 , run the cleanscript for cs5 and cs4 to make sure everything was removed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash player. but nothing seems to work. Any help will be appreciated. It acts like Action Script 3 is corrupt or something else that related to Action Script 3. Everything else seems to work. I also have a preloader running with the same issue. It is should be showing the percentage completed but it go 2 5 50 4 32 or something funky like that. Please help.
