CS4, Adobe Updater, and Snow Leopard

Hello, all.  I have installed my copy of CS4 onto a fresh install of Snow Leopard.  The adobe updater does not recognize any new updates.  I did, however, go to the updates section and download the newest version of camera raw and CS4 11.0.1.
Has anyone else been able to update CS4?  Any suggestions?  If I recall, I believe there were Bridge updates, etc, since the original release of CS4.  I have the original DMG of CS4 for Photoshop, without the patches.
Thanks,

I am also in the camp of not receiving new updates from Adobe Updater in Snow Leopard.  I did a fresh install as was mentioned earlier as well (erase the disk, install Snow Leopard, followed by Software Update to get 10.6.1 and then installed CS4).  Adobe Updater didn't find any updates... Then I installed most (if not all by hand) and then Camera Raw 5.5 came out and I still didn't see any updates.  I did end up installing that one by hand as well, but before I did that I lookad at the aum.log file and saw these messages around the Camera Raw queries...
2009-09-21T04:08:50: GetAppIDUpdates: getting available update info for AppID: cameraraw5
2009-09-21T04:08:50: Could not find AMT folder at: = /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw 5/Contents/Resources
2009-09-21T04:08:51: Could not find AMT folder at: = /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw 5/Contents/Resources
2009-09-21T04:08:51: GetAppIDUpdates: getting .upd file: http://swupmf.adobe.com/manifest/60/mac/cameraraw5.upd
2009-09-21T04:08:51: GetAppIDUpdates: MFS_New - parsing new .upd file = 1
But then again I see those same messages in my 10.5.7 system that works fine... So it doesn't look like it logs anything to explain why its not finding any updates.
I may try uninstalling and reinstalling just to see if that helps... Would be nice to get a resolution to this.

  • Adobe CS2 and Snow Leopard  - do I have to buy CS4 to use SL?????

    That is RIDICULOUS!!!!
In order to use Snow Leopard I have to spend 1,000 in a new CS suite!!????
Adobe is in debt with all the CS, CS2 and CS3 users who can't install a new OS on their Macs
because there is no support for CS old Versions.
    Shame on you Adobe!!!
We demand a patch to solve this situation!!!

Have you yet complained to St. Steve of Cupertino that Apple does so little to maintain application compatibility when they release new versions of their operating systems?
It is a primary rule of operating system development and maintenance that you maintain full compatibility with existing applications and not break such compatibility just for the purpose of being "neat and cool, cool and neat."
If you are willing to spend time and $$$$ to upgrade your operating system to a new and incompatible version, you should be prepared to also spend money for versions of applications that had to be seriously rejiggered to work with these incompatibilities.
Adobe didn't break compatibility, Apple did. Complain to them!

  • Adobe CS2 and Snow Leopard

    Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. I installed CS2 months ago with no problem, but since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard I've come across some issues. I had to do a complete wipe and used Snow Leopard instead of the original DVD that came with the laptop (at the suggestion of my IT guy) because of another issue with one of my accounts and since then, some programs need Rosetta to get them opened initially. The only one I'm having a real issue with is my CS2. I can't afford to upgrade, which is why I'm still with CS2. I get the following message: "An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
I have uninstalled, reinstalled and am still getting the same message. Does anyone have any ideas how I can remedy this situation besides upgrading to the newest version.
    Thanks,
    Jena

I have been using CS2 for a while, and since I installed Snow Leopard, InDesign CS2 is the one which has given me the most difficult time. Apparently, Rosetta and the PostScript language have some problems communicating together. As soon as I have to do something which involve transparency setting (pasting a graphic from Illustrator, trying to make a PDF which contains an imported Illustrator file...), the application crashes. I tried from InDesign directly (almost never works), from the Print menu (ditto), and sometimes I succeed in making a PS file that goes successfully through Distiller.
I didn't have much trouble with Illustrator and Photoshop, though. The only thing It seems I can do is trying to find me a legit copy of CS4, if such a thing still exists.

  • Problems with iCal Server 2 and Snow Leopard Clients

I am currently running iCal Server 2 on Snow Leopard Server, with approximately 6 client computers connected to a single shared calendar account.  I have digest authentication enabled, and am thus using Kerberos (but not SSH), as well as 3 iPhones.
Upon initial connection, I can get all the clients - computers and phones - to properly pull down all the calendar data, and match one another.  However, several of the computers are having trouble updating properly when new events are added.  After some troubleshooting, it seems that the computers running Snow Leopard are not properly updating with events that are entered from other computers, either Snow Leopard or Leopard.  They can, however, post events to the server themselves without any errors.  Interestingly, the Leopard computers can push and pull updated events just fine, and will update with new events whether they originated from a Snow Leopard or a Leopard client.
We had some recurring login/authentication issues a while back, which seemed to resolve when I disabled digest authentication; I'm wondering if perhaps that has something to do with the problems now.  We're mostly using BusyCal as client software, with the iPhones obviously using iCalendar.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had similar problems, with Leopard clients working well and Snow Leopard clients having issues.  Thanks!

    Noby_me,
A lot of folk are having major issues with many Adobe programs and Snow Leopard. You are not alone. For many, rolling-back to Leopard has been the cure. From "word on the street," it appears that Apple is aware of these issues and are working on an OS update. I have no schedule, but that word was out about a month ago, so let's hope that the update is soon in coming.
You might want to do a Search on this, the Encore and the PS fora for "Snow Leopard." There are plenty articles.
    Good luck,

After updating to snow leopard and trying to delete mackeeper, Flash player is being blocked and will not allow me to view utubes. Can anyone help?

Here are instructions for eradicating MacKeeper - you may need to re-install it to uninstall it fully:

Regarding Flash - there are many reports on here that v13.x isn't working for a lot of people. distractme in the following thread posted instructions on how to install the previous version, which should work whilst Adobe work on a fix:

  • Illustrator and other CS4 Apps crashing in snow leopard

    Hello,
Just upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6 and am having some very serious CS4 issues. I first noticed in flash when it constantly kept crashing on save. Now it seems that same issue is also on Illustrator durring open or save or export. I went over to photoshop and that's doing the same as well. The crash is similar on all programs in that it will thow a beach ball after you click save or open, then after a few seconds the entire program closes and two types of crash windows open. One that lets your submit a report and relaunch and the other seems liek the same thing with more options.  I am using a Macbook pro dual core 2.2ghz with 4 gigs of ram. Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

This is what I think the problem is that many of the users upgraded and there is a difference between Leopard and Snow Leopard which changes the way the OS works and interacts with the applications, but it is not unstable once you get a fresh start.
But how do you get a fresh start if you really do not understand or have any knowledge of those components?
Probably with a lot of pain and frustration.
I experienced all of the issues that everyone else experienced the difference is I did not panic and I thought about what are the kinds of things that would be me a real fresh start.
    Short of an archival reinstall!
This is what I did. Instead of trying one thing at a time I simply trash all those files I knew could cause the problem.
Settings Folder ( it is important to trash the folder as it can itself be corrupt not just the preferences inside) then all the Cache files in the two Application Support Folders for the Adobe products giving me problems, any folder in the applications support folders under Adobe related to that application, Font Cache and the com.adobe.(Application name).plist files in the user preferences.
Now also I will give you a possible universal cause for crashing and that is what caused Photoshop to crash every time I used it.
The OS installed a font that it requires to run and I had substituted a postscript version of it prior to installing  the OS upgrade and it worked fine, the postscript version. But I now had a duplicate version loaded and I had a choice to disable it or deactivate the  postscript version which was the simplest thing to do and so I did it and Photoshop works and I notice that Illustrator behaved better as well.
My printer drivers were not working so I downloaded the upgrade and it was still not working so I remove the driver from the printer list and then added it back so the OS would know it had been added. The printers work fine. Well I had to clean the nozzle so that the printer would do a good job.
So it would be wise perhaps to try and get everything that can contribute to these issue off the system until the oS and the application can re create them in a fresh way.

  • 12/13/2014 I suddenly no longer stream videos because of a blocked plug in on my Mac Safari 5.1.10  MacOSX 10.6.8 updated to snow leopard&mountain lion I use adobe flash

12/13/2014 I suddenly no longer stream videos because of a blocked plug in on my Mac Safari 5.1.10  MacOSX 10.6.8
updated to snow leopard& mountain lion I use adobe flash. My preferences allow all plug ins.

If my experience with a similarly aged computer is any indicator, you'll notice an immediately speed hit once you've upgraded to Mavericks. Each OS X update tends to be more memory hungry than the previous and my 2007 iMac wasn't happy with Lion until I upgraded the RAM and at that point Lion performance roughly matched Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion and then Mavericks shaved some speed off again. Mavericks on the 2007 iMac was okay for the most part but switching between applications was slow as was the fileselector.
My 2009 MBP saw similar slowdowns with Lion but I was above to upgrade it to 8GB which made a big difference. (My iMac was limited to 6GB) but I still saw a significant speed hit with Mt Lion when I tried to run multiple memory intensive applications. Seeing how my wife's MacBook Air dealt with Mt Lion with only 4GB I decided to install an SSD in the MBP and wow what a difference. Tried it with the iMac using a FireWire800 enclosure and saw similar improvement.
So to boil it down to one sentence, you are going to see a significant speed hit with only 4GB but if you can afford to upgrade your drive to an SSD you'll be amazed at how well that computer can run.

  • Can i update from Snow leopard to Yosemite and still use old programs?

If I update from Snow leopard (10.6.8) to Yosemite will my old programs work? I'm referring to Freehand MX, Adobe Suite SC2, Microsoft office 2004. I cannot afford to replace ANY of them (I got a Mac when I was diagnosed with Dyslexia while at University so the University bought it all for me).
I have an external harddrive and was routinely backing up my computer however earlier this year it stopped working saying that there asn't enough room ( i though Time Machine deleted old copies?).  I've not very tec savvy at all (and don't underatand how to wipe my external harddrive to start again nor how to set up or use time machine properly).
Please can someone help, explaining in plain English (pretend I'm 90 lol)

I have an external harddrive and was routinely backing up my computer however earlier this year it stopped working saying that there asn't enough room ( i though Time Machine deleted old copies?).  I've not very tec savvy at all (and don't underatand how to wipe my external harddrive to start again nor how to set up or use time machine properly).
You are correct in saying Time Machine will delete old files off of the backend of the backup set. Why this is not happening with your Time machine drive I am not certain, but I have seen this error when, for whatever reason the boot drive was selected as the Time Machine drive
Open System Preferences > Time Machine and be sure the correct drive is selected, If not then change the selection to the correct drive.
    STOP
Otherwise, since you say you are not very tech savvy I am assuming you do not have any third party volume repair utilities and since we do not know why your drive is full rather than deleting files off of the back of the set you want to take extra precautions to be as sure as possible the Time Machine drive is healthy. So I am going to recommend an extra step in the process. I am also assuming your Time Machine drive is attached to your Mac with either a USB or Firewire interface — this will not work for network drives.
Open Disk Utility — you will find it in /Applications/Utilities on your Mac hard drive
Select the Time Machine volume and click on the Erase tab
The format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
You can change the name of the drive if you want
Click on the Security Options button and move the slider one notch to the right
Click on the Erase button — this will erase the drive and write zeros to every sector on the drive which should remap any bad sectors to the spare sectors on the drive but it will take some time, so don't get anxious.
Assuming there are no errors when Disk Utility completes close it
Open System Preferences > Time Machine and reselect the Time Machine drive.
You Mac will then start a new Time Machine backup set. This may take several hours depending on the speed of your Mac the speed of the connection to the Time Machine drive and the speed of the Time Machine drive itself.

  • Safari and Flash after updating to Snow Leopard

After updating to Snow Leopard, Safari will no longer display any flash content. I have tried reinstalling flash as well as uninstalling/reinstalling. Firefox works correctly so I know I do have the correct flash installed. Any advice? Thanks.

I have a similar problem. The rendering is wrong after updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.
The 10.6.1 doesn't solve the problem.
The rendering problem is on Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
I've tried to uninstall Flash using the Adobe uninstaller and re-install.
    It doesn't solve the problem.
On my MacBook Air, I've updated to Snow Leopard, and no problem. Flash is working correctly.

  • Home sharing does not work after update to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9

I am using home sharing since about a year without any problems. After updating to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 it suddenly does not work anymore.
On my iMac and my Mac Book Pro I get error code 3259 and it tells me to check my firewall and to enable Port 3689.
I did not change anything in the firewall settings, itunes on both allows data traffic in both directions. I also do not find any option to activate a port ( also wondering why this is suddenly now necessary)
I deactivated home sharing on both machines and enabled it again. It still does not work.
On both machines iTunes displays the the library on the left side but like said it is not accessable
With Finder I can access the other computer from both machines without any problem.
Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated

first of all, if you are behind a router firewall, and have your network secured (WPA2 and a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers), you don't need the software firewall on your Mac(s).
@ least turned if off for troubleshooting purposes.
turn home sharing off on both computers, and make sure
    (a) both Macs have access to the internet
    (b) iTunes on both machines is authorized for the same iTunes account.
turn home sharing back on on both Macs.
    does it work ?

  • Updated to Snow Leopard and now my picture looks bad on my HD TV... help?

    Hey guys and gals.
So I have a MBP 1.3ghz 15" 4 gb RAM and running Snow Leopard.
I have always used my DVI to Composite/S-Video adapter to watch movies on TV. I just recently updated to Snow Leopard from 10.4 and for some reason it looks like my resolution is all jacked up. I see that my resolution options have decreased on the video preferences and no matter which one I use I get a real bad blur and sometimes a distorted B&W picture on my tv.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    A

Hello. I don't know what part of the world you're in but if you're in North America TVs typically operate on the NTSC format and if you're in another part of the world PAL is used. If you have an option in System Preferences, make sure the appropriate choice is selected.

It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

Hi, I updated to snow leopard recently and when I turned my macbook back on icons from every file of pictures and music i have were all over my desktop
how can i get them to all go to their programs like music to itunes, pictures to iphoto,  do I have to do it individually? thanks for any help

If the icons have a black arrow bottom left corner, then the icons are just aliases, not the Application itself. You can move those icons to the Trash.
