CS4 and it's rearranged channel selection hotkeys...?

in all the prior versions of photoshop, the hotkeys to select the individual channels of an image were logically bound to the matching numbers...
ctrl-1 = view channel 1
ctrl-2 = view channel 2
ctrl-3 = view channel 3
ctrl-4 = view channel 4
ctrl-` = view rgb channels
does anyone know why those got remapped by adobe to this in cs4 :
ctrl-3 = view channel 1
ctrl-4 = view channel 2
ctrl-5 = view channel 3
ctrl-6 = view channel 4
ctrl-2 = view rgb channels
those make no sense at all and what makes it even more annoying is that when i went into the hotkey editor, i looked to see if ctrl-` or ctrl-1 were bound to any new commands and they don't appear to be, so it looks like adobe rebound those for no purpose at all.. :(
has anyone found any way to revert those hotkeys back to their traditional (and logical!) hotkeys?

Hrmmmm. He says that ctrl-1 got rebound to setting the zoom level to 100%, but that's not working on my machine so i don't see what he's talking about....
I curse them for doing that. The only time you should ever change a hotkey is if you allow the user to restore it back to it's original state with the hotkey editor. They shouldn't be changing hotkeys that aren't actually physically accessible in their hotkey editor.. :(

  • Why is it  type in Photoshop  CS4 and I get Photoshop FxG extension for my search?

    I'm using Photoshop CS4 on my Imac Intel computer printing on my Epson Pro 4000 printer. I just started using Colormunki calibration software to make ICC profiles for my printing papers on the Epson 4000 printer. I;m a little pissed due a month of workiing out all kind of problems from the Epson folks telling me how Apple change everything around  in Snow Leopard OS plus being told that the driver for the Epson 4000 only was for Leopard and the driver wouldn't work on Snow Leopard or if so have very limited printing features. Finally I spoke to one of the Epson tech people who told me that the driver for the Epson 4000 for leopard would support Snow Leopard OS
    .In the past when I was using Leopard OS with photoshop CS4. I could go in, select let photoshop manage file, then turn off my color managment select my papers ICC profile and bang beautiful print. Now since I'm working in Snow Leopard I fellow the same set up and I get this terrible dark images like years ago when I first start printing on Epson printers. Where everyone use to open the file up about a 1 1/2 f stops to get the file to print close to what you saw on the computer screent. Then I discovered  the color sync part in Photoshop and bang I got exactly what I saw on the computer screen back in the old days..
    I spend all day making color profiles from Colormunki software and device on my roll paper enhance matte pape and canvas paperss  with the color mangmenet off.  I would print using these new ICC profiles and I get the same terribel color I got before using this software when I made profiles from Epson Enhance Matte sheet paper thinking there might be a slight difference between my sheet Epson Enhance matte and my roll Epson enhance matte.
    Here is the joke. I select like printer manage files whch grays out any ICC profile because Epson told me that Apple asked Epson to turn off the feature undetr let printer manage file and then select a ICC profile as Apple said due to double color managment.
    \When I select like printer managment file I get a print that looks like what I have on my computer screen. Has anyone face this problem with Snow Leopard selecting like photoshop manage file, select perceptual , and turning off color managment and getting terrible color prints?

    Found out the answer myself. All this to say that the driver for my Epson 4000 updated for Leopard which is supported for Snow Leopard.
    I didn't realized I had updated my Snow Leopard to 10.6.3 and the Epson Driver is  onlly supported to Snow Leopard 10.5

  • How to make a good UI for channel selection using DAQmx

    A lot of my Labview programming was with earlier verisons of labview (pre Labview 7), and there are a ton of new features that I'm trying to digest (currently using Labview 8.2).
    My question is (in general terms), how are people programming their UI for selecting channels and such when using DAQmx hardware?  What I have in mind is a compacDAQ system with a number of modules.  The user would be able to pick and choose which channels to monitor.  Using MAX as part of that process seems counter intuative, and somewhat static (yeah I know you can change it there, but it feels more like something you would use for something that really doesn't change much).  I'd like all the UI to be within the VI.
    Are programmers using the create task VIs for that or something else?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I wholeheartedly second the motion to keep MAX out of the picture as far as users are concerned.
    Setting up UI's for channel selection is a breeze in DAQmx when you create channels on the block diagram. The control you create off the Channels input will populate itself with the inputs that it knows are capable of performing the desired task...
    <<< My configuration knows that my Module 5 is capable of doing Analog Input.
    So... Just create a panel that waits for the user to select the proper channel. I also run a quick check of the user's selection before creating / starting the task. For example, if they choose ai30 or higher, and I know that the system isn't wired for those inputs, I'll not allow that selection. Also check for using two of the same input, etc.

  • Remote channel selection on a 19LV505

    I have my 19 inch LCD/DVD combo connected to an HD antenna. I have gone thru the list of channels and add/delete d the one I receive and the ones I don't. All of the add's were HD signals with station numbers like 12.001 and 15.001.... when I use the remote to key in a channel, I press 12 and I get 12, not the digital 12.001....and I need to Channel up to get the digital channel.... I know logically pressing 12 and getting 12 is logical... BUT, I have a another Toshiba 40 inch LCD that I set up the same way, I think, and when I key in 12 on its remote, I get the 12.001, the HD station I want.  Soooo, any ideas on the 19 inch set as to why it won't go to the HD station...?  Thanks

    Welcome to the discussions, Faye S!
    +The channel selection is also set to automatic on the AX. Does it matter what channels are selected, so that I should manually specify the channels?+
    Check your settings on both devices, as they should look like this:
    On the AEBS, open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
    Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save any changes
    On the AirPort Express (AX), open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
    Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
    Wireless Network Name = The name of your AEBS network should appear as a choice to join...select it
    Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
    Wireless Security = Exact same setting as the AEBS
    Wireless Password = Same password as the AEBS
    Confirm Password
    Update to save settings
    Note that there is no channel adjustment for the AX when it is setup to "extend". It will automatically be on the same channel as the AEBS.

  • Photoshop cs4 and import to iphoto problem

    Hi to all,
    I would appreciate any help on this problem:
    I process a raw file through camera raw 5.1 in photoshop cs4 and then save it as a jpeg.
    I then try to import the jpeg file to iphoto, but iphoto says the file is unreadable and can't import it.
    In photoshop cs3 I never encountered this problem.
    The only way I can solve it is if i open the jpeg file in preview and save it again as jpeg. then i am able to import the new jpeg.
    Any ideas how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    process a raw file through camera raw 5.1 in photoshop cs4 and then save it as a jpeg.
    I then try to import the jpeg file to iphoto, but iphoto says the file is unreadable and can't import it.
    That's because you're saving it inside the iPhoto Library package and trying to import from there. You must save all RAW edited files to the desktop or outside of the iPhoto Library package. iPhoto will not import any file located inside it's library package.
    If you use CS4 to edit jpgs from within iPhoto the following may be of help to you:
    Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
    If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Saving Jpeg in Photoshop CS4 and having problems

    Okay, i have been looking all over the internet and i hope it's something really foolish...
    After editing a photo in Photoshop (CS4) and saving it as a JPEG / JPG, many people using windows can't open the file, and it gets the extension .JPGG ( ...?... )
    If I import the picture in Iphoto first and then mail it ther is no problem.
    perhaps this is quite obvious to some, but it's a mystery to me.
    To update my website i need to save my JPG files to an XML folder and then flash reads the files and opens them in the site.
    The JPG files i saved using photoshop won't open in the site, even worse, the site won't even load because the loader gets 'stuck'.
    i tried putting them in Iphoto first because that helped with with mailing, but it doesn't seem to be working this time.
    I've tried all the JPG saving options like Baseline etc. converted them to RGB ( they already were) so i'm out of options.
    ANYONE ?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I have CS3 so don't know if there's major changes to the formatting process by each version. That may be a question to ask in the Adobe support forum.
    However, for a workaround you might try using the Automator workflow I created to change any image file to jpg with the sRGB color profile. Just drag the files onto the workflow icon and they will be converted. You can get it, "Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile", at Toad's Cellar. See if those jpgs will work OK. There will be some jpeg compression applied but if they are for posting on the web it may not be objectionable.
• Windows 7 with CS4 and PSD Icons

    Hi,
    I have Windows 7 64bit, Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop 7 (for back-up).
    I know that Photoshop 7 allowed thumbnail previews on PSD's but that was taken out so CS4 is just a custom icon, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to really get what to do with either of them, and you can't force a certian icon on a certian file type like you could in XP because Microsoft basically got rid of the ability to do so now.
    The attatched image shows two PSD's in the same folder, one with a defaul windows "unknown" file icon, but with photoshops logo on it to represent what it will open it with anyway, and the other has a preivew although it has never been opened in PS7 (both fully created in CS4, nothing else). For the sake of organisation, is there a way to either get them all to be previews of thumbnails or all one generic icon (preferably not the one it has made it from windows).
    Thanks,
    Ricky

    Hi Ricky
    In Windows Explorer (Windows 7) if you right click on a file icon a menu pops up offering your the choice under Open with->Choose Default Program. If you select Photoshop it will change the icon to the Photoshop and open the file.
    I notice that the file extension is not showing in your example I suggest you turn this feature on just to make sure both files are .psd.
    As to the thumbnails, I found Windows Explorer so inadequate, I bought a program call Directory Opus, I think you can get a free 30 day trial if you're interested at http://www.gpsoft.com.au/ it has many features left out of Windows Explorer including a really good thumbnail feature.
    Good luck with it.

  • How to open files in CS4 and CS5?

    The graphic designers in my office have both InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5 installed. CS4 is set to be the default for all Adobe files. However, if they want to open an InDesign in CS5, if they right-click and select "Open With" they can't choose to open with CS5. Even if they click "browse" and manually choose CS5. Anyone know why that is? They can open InDesign CS5 and then browse to file and open it within the program, so it's not a compatibility issue. Obviously this is more a matter of convenience for them (since they work with thousands of files) than a major problem, I would just like to know if it's possible to open InDesign files this way.

    It's an OS thing and you can't change it.
    You can, however, purchase the Soxy plugin from Rorohiko.com that will intercept the open commands and launch the correct version of ID based on the version in which the file was saved. I believe it costs about $20.

  • [Ann] QR Code for InDesign CS4 and up

    Ever needed to create a QR code? There are literally hundreds of free QR code generators on the web, but they all have the same drawbacks:
    1. They typically deliver a PNG, either 'click here to download', or you have to drag it somewhere yourself.
    2. It's typically an RGB image, so the cautious designer will start up Photoshop to convert it to a monochrome image.
    3. .. so you get a file to store somewhere ..
    4. ... and after seeing four of them you cannot remember which QR code said what ...
    5. .... and, you cannot use such site in a batched environment (well, maybe some people can by building a proper URL, call the website, wait for a response, etc. I bet it's difficult for your average scripter.)
    So I had a go on converting one of the existing Javascript solutions -- Patrick Wied's, in case you're curious -- into a construction fit for InDesign. All you have to do is download the zip: http://www.jongware.com/binaries/jw_qrcode.zip -- unpack it, and save the file "QRCode.jsxbin" in your local User Script folder. It ought to be compatible with InDesign CS4 and upwards, for both Mac and Windows.
    When it appears in your Script Panel, you can double-click to run and
    1. with nothing selected, it prompts for text and error recovery settings, and will place a proper monochrome TIFF bitmap of (approximately) a useful dimension in the center of your current page.
    2. with an empty rectangle selected, the new QR code will be placed inside it.
    3. with some text selected, the text field will be pre-filled with this.
    4. With a QR Code selected which you created earlier using this same tool, the text field will contain the original text, and the quality setting will be retrieved. You can cancel the dialog if you only wanted to know what it said, or change the text or quality.
    5. You can call this script from another script to perform batch operations. It accepts two required arguments, and one optional, in this order: text, Error Correction level (1-4), and optionally a destination rectangle to place it in:
    app.doScript(new File(app.activeScript.path+'/qrcode.jsxbin'), ScriptLanguage.JAVASCRIPT, ["hello", 1, app.selection[0]], UndoModes.ENTIRE_SCRIPT, "Call QR Code");
    6. Since it's a monochrome bitmap TIFF with enough resolution (at its default size it's 200 dpi), you can use the swatches palette to change the white or black parts to another color, or even make one transparent.
    7. It's just a small file, and so I decided to always have it automatically embed. That way you can never loose it. The image first has to be created in a temporary file (default location: (Temp)/qrcode.tiff, where (Temp) is your local Temporary Files folder). If this fails for some of you (there always seem to be overly prudent IT professionals who seem to despise users storing files willy-nilly), I'll have to think of something else.
    Note: this version only supports plain text mode, not numeric, alphanumeric, or Kanji. Text is converted to UTF-8; for the most common purpose -- web pages -- it should work normally.
    Enjoy!
    Based entirely on Patrick Wied's implementation of a basic QR Code generator. Patrick Wied dutifully notes
    I do not guarantee any resulting QR code generations or detections, use this application at your own risk! - this project is just a study project (non commercial).
    and so I advise to always check your generated code using a good QR Code reader.

    To give back to community, here is the script to generate QR codes for business cards created by data merge

             if(_storyAllTextFrames[mx].contents.indexOf('MECARD:')==0){
                 var obj = app.doScript(new File(app.activeScript.path+'/qrcode.jsxbin'), ScriptLanguage.JAVASCRIPT, [_storyAllTextFrames[mx].contents]);
                 _storyAllTextFrames[mx].contents = "";
                var myScaleMatrix = app.transformationMatrices.add({horizontalScaleFactor:.7,
                    verticalScaleFactor:.7,counterclockwiseRotationAngle:15});
                obj.transform(CoordinateSpaces.pasteboardCoordinates,AnchorPoint.centerAnchor, myScaleMatrix);

  • How to remove CS4 Trial with PS CS4 and LR 2.6 Installed?

    After reading several discussions on the subject, it would appear the following workflow should be followed:
    1 Log on as Administrator
    2 Use Uninstall Programs and select PPro CS4.  Allow the uninstaller to remove as much of PPro CS4 as it can.
    3 Use Adobe Cleanscript CS4 for Windows several times.
    More than likely, I would like to remove all data files produced by PPro CS4 and probably NOT INSTALL the FULL VERSION on this machine.  Other than looking in the My Documents Folder, where else should I be looking?  Will the procedures outlined above leave both PS CS4 and Lightroom 2.6 alone?
    I've got 2 days left on the Trial and wish to uninstall prior to deactivation.
    Any tips, suggestions, gotchas and errata would be most welcomed!

    Here is the link to the PrE Tips & Tricks sub-forum.
    Though it is in the PrE hierarchy, it is a great repository for things that affect all Premiere programs (and some general NLE subjects too). Not everything there is specific to PrE. As a matter of fact, most articles were written with PrPro (and Photoshop) firmly in mind, with annotations where there are differences when referring to PrE, or PSE.

  • Keep switch channel selected for multiple steps in a scan list

    Hi,
    I have 3 switches (PXI-2575), one to apply a source to a given line, one to apply a sink, a one to apply a DMM.  I have all three switches triggering off each other as well as a DMM (PXI-4070). I apply a source to any given line with the source switch and then cycle through other lines using the DMM switch. Problem is i want to keep the wear on the relays of the source switch to a minimum (for each cycle through the DMM lines I'm selecting same source pin multiple times!). Is there a command for scan lists or some way of setting up the switches so that this can be done?
    I thought it might be possible to use the debounce command ';' on its own to signify that i don't want to change the channel selection but this does not appear to work, the DMM times out whilst waiting for a trigger on the second reading. Simplified example scan list that i currently have:
    Break Mode: No Action
    Source Switch: ch0->com;;;;~ch0->com & ch1->com...
    DMM Switch: ch100->com;~ch100->com & ch101->com;~ch101->com & ch102->com;~ch102->com & ch103->com;~ch103->com & ch100->com...
    I've also tried selecting the same channel in subsquent scan list entries which flags up error saying explicit connection already exists between the channels.
    So is the only possibility just to needlessly wear out the relays?!

    Hi leon007,
    I can understand your desire to keep the wear on the relays of the Source switch to a minimum.  I have a few questions, but we should be able to get the application working without needlessly wearing out the relays.
    1.  Can I assume you are using NI-SWITCH to program this application?  If you are using the NI-DAQmx Switch API, please let me know.
    2.  When you state "I have all three switches triggering off each other as well as a DMM", can I assume (leaving out the Sink switch for now) the scan advanced output of the Source switch (TTL0) is sent to the trigger input of the DMM switch (TTL0), the scan advanced output of the DMM switch (TTL1) is sent to the trigger source of the DMM (TTL1), and the measurement complete destination of the DMM (TTL2) is sent to the trigger input of the Source switch (TTL2)?
    3.  If you are still having troubles after this post, I would like to know the following so I can assist in testing the issue:  What versions of NI-DAQmx and NI-SWITCH do you have installed?
    OK, that's it for my questions.  Now for yours.  Unfortunately, the debounce command ';' didn't work because it is simply a dummy entry - without creating a connection no scan advanced signal will be sent.  I've noticed this is not documented well in our help file, and I apologize for that.  However, attempting to create a connection where one already exists should be an error.  Either the user is attempting to redundantly connect channels (which shouldn't happen if niSwitch Get Relay Position is used), or there is a driver issue.
    To keep the relay wear to a minimum, I want to suggest a couple of ideas.
    1.  Use only one trigger line for the DMM's measurement complete and one trigger line for all the switches scan advanced outputs.  To use this option, it cannot matter in your application which switch operates first, and which operates last.  The switch that always makes a connection (the DMM switch) will send a scan advanced output trigger with a set scan delay (configured in niSwitch Configure Scan Trigger) that should accommodate for all the switches.  This option may add delay in your application, but you will save relay life.
    2.  Use the DAQmx Switch API and the '&&' command between seperate switch connections.  In the DAQmx Switch API, you use just one scan list for all switch modules.  For example, we would perform the example scan list entries you provided with the following scan list:
    /Source/ch0->com && /DMM Switch/ch100->com; ~/DMM Switch/ch100->com & /DMM Switch/ch101->com; ~/DMM Switch/ch101->com & /DMM Switch/ch102->com; ~/DMM Switch/ch102->com & /DMM Switch/ch103->com; ~/Source/ch0->com & /Source/ch1->com && ~/DMM Switch/ch103->com & /DMM Switch/ch100->com...
    The above connects the Source switch CH0 to COM, waits for the relays to settle, connects the DMM switch CH100 to COM, sends the scan advanced output signal, and waits for the trigger input before executing the next scan list entry.  This method will keep an order to the madness, as you will have the power to decide which switch operates first, and which operates last.
    Let me know if I assumed anything incorrectly or if neither option works for you!

  • How to design channel select VI for Agilent34970A

    Hello Guys,
                 I want to design a temperature data acquisition system by using 34970A,but now i have a problem that i don't know how to design a channels selecting vi?
    My idea is to select any channel from multiple channels to scan,pls help me for explaining how to do,because my labviw knowledge and experience  is so poor.

    Thanks for the response.  In order to incorporate the sampling information (sampling frequency) into my data ( 160 X 512 2-D Array), I use "Build Waveform.vi." However, for the input argument "Y," I can only use a 1-D array.  I try with my 2-D array, but it gives me a connection error.  So, my first thought was to stick the Build Waveform.vi into a for loop with a shift register.  I use an indexing tunnel node when guiding my data array into the loop.  I then connect the 1-D array to the build waveform.vi, and send the output to a "Build Array.vi" where the output goes to the shift register, and the other input comes from the first shift register.  What prevents this from working i.e., creating a 2-D waveform array, is that the option to uncheck the "Concatenate Inputs" is not available when i right click on the  Build Array.vi.  I notice that I do have the option to uncheck it when i'm just using 2 waveforms without the shift register.  Would you have any suggestions?  I want keep it running as efficient as possible, so i figured that I might want to avoid doing the filtering 160*13 times, manually.
    would there be any advantage to using the Digital IIR Filter.vi over the Butterworth Filter.vi ?  The input for the former is a waveform while for the latter is a plain ol' array, but i notice that i can send a waveform into it and i don't get an error.

  • CS4 and Spaces

    I've seen postings about photoshop CS4's conflicts with Spaces, but not recently and not about CS4 as a whole.
    The main issue I experience is that when I try to permanently assign, for example, illustrator to Space 2(in the system preferences, spaces tab), and then open illustrator while in a different space. What happens is that half the application (particularly the application frame) opens up in space 2, while the splash screen hits whatever space I'm in, and with it all the toolbars and palettes. Then selecting half in the application in either space causes a back and forth switching between spaces, potentially causing the dock (which i believe manages Spaces) to crash.
    the only ways to fix this are to activate spaces so that you can see all four, and then hold shift while dragging the toolbars and palettes over to the application frame OR to quit illustrator, switch to space 2 and open illustrator there OR to not assign a CS4 app to a specific space
    OR to turn off the application frame. This basically works, and is what I do. But what happens is that the toolbars/palettes still open in whatever space you're in, but as soon as you open an illustrator document everything gets automatically switched permanently to Space 2.
    I suppose this is partly an OS X bug, but it really is the CS4 app that is somehow not managing its windows correctly when the application launches. And it is somehow tied to a difference in how the application frame and the flash parts of the GUI (toolbars and palettes) are handled. Having an application's splash screen come up in the foreground when I'm in another application and just trying to open illustrator or photoshop in the background to a different space is (just) annoying, but is definately related to the larger problem.
    please fix this. Being able to assign an application to its own space is really productive and useful. And I like the application frame, too bad I can't use it...

    The issue of CS4 and support for Leopard Spaces will be dealt with in great detail in the following thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2320401#2320401
    I would ask all those interested in the resolution of this issue to consolidate their efforts and contribute to this thread in future. A united front would, I think, be more effective.
    Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Photoshop CS4 and the mysterious vanishing marching ants...

    About ten minutes ago, as I was cropping photos in Photoshop CS4, the marquee tools suddenly lost their marching ants.
    Now, when I click on the rectangular marquee tool and move the cursor to select an area, the outline of the selected area is invisible - until I let go of the mouse, when it suddenly appears as a solid line.
    I assume I must've turned the marching ants off somehow by mistake. How do I turn them back on?
    A swift web search suggests that I can hit Control+H or Command+H to turn the marching ants on and off. Neither of these work for me.
    Other suggestions I've found are to 'reset' the tool (how?) - or install a new video card, which surely can't be an issue in my case. I have not installed any updates - this literally happened minutes ago, in mid-job.
    I'm using a Mac, OSX 10.8.5 if that makes any difference…
    There MUST be a simple 'click on such-and-such' solution. Thanks in advance if you know it!

    Slight update - I have now discovered how to reset tools in Photoshop. Basically, I did what the video in the link below suggests.
    It didn't make any difference.
    When I selected the rectangular marquee tool for resetting, a message in the box said  'No presets defined for current tool' - which presumably means there was nothing to reset. That would explain why it didn't work, then.
    So if the marquee tools did not have any presets, why did the marching ants turn off - and how do I get them back?
