CS4 and Lumix LX5

Hi,
i found out, that there ist now direct support from CS4 to my new Lumix LX5. :-(
In some forums i got the hint to use the free DNG converter. that works for most of the files, but some rw2's it can't convert. yesterday i made 10 pictures and the converter only identificate 7 of them. The only thing i noticeed ist, that this files are "only" 7MB. The others are 10MB. When i use irfanview to look the rw2's are no problems. the pictures are all very good. somebody an idea whats wrong with the 3?
Thanks
pittip
sorry for my english, but i hope you understand me!??

sorry, found the DNG forum. this question must be therer! sorry!

  • Aperture 3 and Lumix LX5

    I have recently upgraded my Aperture 2.0 software and pictures library to Aperture 3.0 and I bought a Lumix LX5. I have the following questions:
    1. It is supposed that in Aperture 3.x you can import also the videos. My videos are not imported. Lumix LX5 is recording AVCHD 720p movies. Anything I need to check?
    2. When will Apple support importing Lumix LX5 RAW files? Is there any third party plugin I can use in Aperture? I only want to use Aperture for my photos and not the bundled software which comes with the camera (which can read the movies and the RAW files, of course).
    Thanks,

    Not all formats of video are supported. for AVCHD you'll need to use iMovie.

    Nobody outside of Apple knows when - or if - your camera will be supported for Raw. Aperture menu -> Provide Aperture Feedback and them know you want it.

    Have you tied converting them to DNGs and using those?

  • CS4 raw support for Lumix LX5 RW2 files

    It appears that the new Camera Raw Adapter 6.2 that supports the new Lumix LX5 raw files is not compatible with Photoshop CS4.  Does this mean I will never be able to process LX5 raw files with CS4?

    Adobe provides backwards compatibility in CS2, CS3 and CS4 for new cameras through the FREE DNG Converter:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4803
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4802
    There are other benefits to using DNG besides backward compatibility if you haven’t explored those:
    The metadata, keywords and RAW adjustments are stored in the file – along with a processed preview of the image. This makes the file portable and keeps your metadata safe and secure.
    DNG files are smaller than the original RAW file which will save you disk space and time in the long run.
    DNG is an openly specified file format which means the file format isn’t going away. So if you use another RAW processor that supports DNG, you don’t have to worry about compatibility or portability of your metadata.

    Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
    No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
    TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
    There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
    On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
    I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
    I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
    With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

  • High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

    Hello.
    Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. This thread in particular probably has the most information about the problem I'm having http://forums.adobe.com/message/4298535#4298535
    I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
    Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
    It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
    I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
    The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
    I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
    My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
    The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
    I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
    Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.
    http://www.mediafire.com/watch/15fr85n78xfu94x/Opening_Cinematic_Placeholder.avi
    Just click the download button at the top right.
    Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

    Just click the download button at the top right.
    If there's anymore infor you need let me know.
    Thanks.

    >single AVI file. The video format is H264
    H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
    -Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... SOME to MOV wrapper
    -so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option

  • ID CS4 and Adobe Digital Editions

    One reason I purchased ID CS4 was for the ability to create ebooks using ADE. However, my first attempt to export to ADE has been far from successful.
    The project is a 152-page book. It was "created" in ID CS4 and is straight text except for the publisher's logo, which appears on the title page. Each chapter is its own file, as is each element of the front matter. Three fonts are used in the publication: Arial, Formata, and Palatino. The Formata and Palatino fonts are OT fonts; they were newly purchased as OT fonts for this client. Each use of italic or bold in the book's text, excluding heads, is by a character style that includes the font family name. For example, if the text is supposed to be Palatino Italic, the character style includes both bits of information, a generic Italic is not used.
    I combined all of the elements of the project into a single ID Book, which is what I used to update numbering, etc. When I export to PDF from the Book, everything works fine. When I export to Adobe Digital Editions from the Book, the following occurs:
    1. Arial and Palatino are embedded but Formata is not.
    2. The first and last files of the Book (i.e., the title page and the References) appear in the ePub file and are viewable in the ADE viewer, but everything between those two files, including all of the text chapters, are empty files that appear as blank pages in the ADE viewer.
    What am I doing wrong? How do I
    a. Get Formata embedded?
    b. Get the complete project into an ePub file?
    Another thought: Would the way to do this be to do each chapter as a separate export to ADE and then combine each of the separate files into a single ePub file? If so, how would one do this? I've noted that when creating an ePub file several additional informational files are created. It isn't clear to me how one would combine that information.
    Also, is there a good source and/or book (or several sources and/or books) that gives step-by-step instruction information on turning a project into an ePub file? Although this project has no graphics, tables, etc., future projects will have numerous graphics, tables, etc. and so any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You're not actually doing anything wrong. You're experiencing a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming update to InDesign CS4.
    The cause of the problem comes down to the spaces in the name of the font you've used in your document (i.e. Myriad Pro Bold). If an embedded font contains spaces in its name, it won't be used and Adobe Digital Editions will use its default font instead. The problem can be overcome by directly editing the EPUB file. I use Oxygen to open up the EPUB file directly, but you can also change the .epub file extension to .zip and then unarchive the package to gain access to the various files within it. Once you've opened the EPUB file, you need to modify three things: the template.css file, encryption.xml file, and the font files.
    Template.css
    At the top of the CSS file, you'll see font face declarations for each font you've used in your document. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro%20Bold.otf);
    Change to:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro-Bold.otf);
    Encryption.xml
    For each type style you've used in your document, there will be a <enc:CipherData> element. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space here as well. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    <enc:CipherData>
                 <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro%20Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Change to:
    <enc:CipherData>
                <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Font Files:
    Within the EPUB package is a folder called "Fonts," where all the embedded fonts reside. You need to rename the files by replacing the spaces with hyphens.
    That's all there is to it. After editing and saving the files, you'll have to rearchive the package and change the .zip extension back to .epub. If you use Oxygen to edit the package, there is no rearchiving necessary. You can also use the free PDFXML Inspector, but I definitely prefer Oxygen since it provides many more tools and its not so clunky.

    Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance

    I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them,  However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

  • Is it possible to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 both installed on the same Mac? 10.6.8

    We have a bunch of recent Intel macs at our corporation.  Currently they should all have 10.6.8.  They were all imaged from a base image that has Adobe CS4 embedded in it.
    We are now using a packaging software part of the JAMF Casper suite and AAMIE to push CS5.5 to the end users.
    The problem is that we want to keep CS4 on the end user's computers in case of issues.  That way the end users can try Indesign 5.5 and see if it does everything they need to do and still have Indesign for backwards compatiblity.
    So we created a CS5.5 install package using the AAMIE tool which works fine.  We then use Casper to spam the package out to a Mac.
    The issue that arises is that a few Plugin errors occur during the lauch of Indesign CS5.5 such as:
    Adobe inDesign does not recognize InCopy Bridge UI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
    Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
    Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExportUI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
    Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyImport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
    There was one more plugin error that occured before the first one but I forgot to write it down.
    If we click okay to them, the application launches okay but when you quit and relaunch it, you still get one of the errors.
    Is this because both applications are installed at the same time?
    Is it offically okay as per Adobe to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 installed on the same Macintosh?
    What else should we be considering what to do?

    Well currently, I'm just testing this issue.  I just installed the trial version of  Adobe CS4 suite on my mac and then deployed the CS5.5 package on top off it  The resulting errors that I listed above are the same ones that occur when the end user has a licensed volume license install of CS4 and CS5.5.
    So I'm still back to square 1 where when I deploy cs5.5 on an  end user's mac, they get those plugin errors when they launch Indesign CS5.5.
    I am not sure about the licensing restrictions, I asked my Director and he is going to check with our VAR.

  • Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer displaying font preview.

    I am using Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer showing all of them, just blank spaces where they would be...that is unless I put my cursor over it and I can then see the typeface. This is more of a nuisance than anything and didn't happen until I updates OS X to Yosemite. I currently am operating OS X  Yosemetie 10.10.2
    I have attached a screen shot. You can see that the font highlighted as the cursor is over it I can see the preview...but one I move the cursor it appears like all the others in the list and is blank.
    HELP!

    Solved using this previous users had the same issue; Font previews not appearing correctly in the character window after upgrading to Yosemite

  • How many computers can I install Indesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 on with an Asia Pacific Education version?

    I've tried to have a look around among discussions, however, as it's CS4 and thus pretty outdated at this point, I'm having to start something new.
    This is not for me, but a community organisation that I am volunteering for that has the copies and has asked me to see if they're allowed to install it on another computer within their small office.
    Thanks in advance for any information!

    J,
    I believe you can only install an educational version on one computer. But an educational version is for one student/teacher and cannot be sold/given away to others, so they may be far out already.
    But you should ask someone from Adobe.
    You may try Customer Care,
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
    or Adobe Support (phone),
    http://helpx.adobe.com/adobe-connect/adobe-connect-phone-numbers.html
    but they may tell you that the version is too old for them to deal with.
    If you wish, you may report your (lack of) findings here, so I can maybe ask someone to find the right someone to give the final answers.

  • Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management

    This is a question about Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management. I scan 4x5 film and sometimes end up with up to or even bigger than 1 GB files. Obviously that needs as much memory as possible. Windows XP is limited in this regard and I am in the market for a new speedy computer which won't force me to stay at a snail's pace. In this month's Shutterbug, David Brooks in his Q&A column says to avoid Vista for color management reasons, but offers no explanation or support for his opinion. He implies one should wait for Windows 7 for some unstated reason. With a calibrated monitor and printer and Photoshop controlling color files sent to the printer, why would Vista be any different or worse than XP? Is he on to something or just pontificating? Does anyone know any reliable info about Windows 7 that would make it worth waiting for?
    Thanks.

    On Mac OS X, PS CS4 can use up to 8 GB of RAM, but only directly accesses up to 3.5 GB. (Figures quoted from kb404440.) In using PS CS4 on Mac OS, though, direct Memory Usage maxes out at 3 GB even. If you set usage to 100% (3 GB), then plug-ins (including Camera Raw and filters), as well as actions and scripts, can access RAM above that 3 GB to between about 512 MB and about 768 MB total (seems to vary depending on which filters et al that you are using), leaving the rest up to 4 GB for the Mac OS. If you have more than 4 GB, then the amount of RAM above 4 GB is used by PS as a scratch disk. This increases performance significantly for most things because writing to and reading from the hard drive is much slower than doing so with RAM.
    I haven't done the testing for actual RAM usage and such for PS CS4 on Vista 64, and Adobe's documentation is very much lacking in detail, but, based on the statement "If you use files large enough to need more than 4 GB of RAM, and you have enough RAM, all the processing you perform on your large images can be done in RAM, instead of swapping out to the hard disk." from kb404439, it seems that PS would be using RAM in very much the same way as I described above for Mac OS, except that the scratch disk usage in RAM wouldn't be limited to 8 GB (instead to how much you have installed). Has anyone done any performance/load testing to know for sure? I didn't see any such studies published, but I am curious if one has been done.
    I will agree that there is a definite performance advantage when using PS CS4 (64-bit) on Vista 64, which I've experienced, especially when working very large compositions.
    My initial recommendation to the OP to use Mac was based upon reading those articles about bad color management. As I stated before, I have never experienced that problem, and clearly the views of all that have posted here so far indicate that the problem may not be a real issue. (Perhaps this David Brooks fellow and Steve Upton both like to mess with their computers and broke something in Windows?)

  • CS4 and Windows VISTA

    Hi out there,
    had CS3 installed on Windows VISTA and experienced numerous crashes. I am editing in HD (AVCHD and HDV). Was told that Windows XP is more stable. Upgraded to CS4 and at the same time installed XP. No longer any problems. I am moving to documentaries with longish video lengths. No I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?) and VISTA would be the answer (also 64 bit). I don't want to go back to VISTA and experience the crashes again. Anyone experience with VISTA and CS4? Has the stability of VISTA in the meantime improved to the level of XP? Or has CS4 learned to handle VISTA? Advise appreciated. Helmuth

    I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?)
    This is the amount of RAM that the OS sees, and is NOT the limit on file sizes. The only file size limitations will come from working with DV-AVI Type I files, or from using FAT-32 formatted HDD's. PrPro is built around using DV-AVI Type II files, which are not limited in file size.
    As John points out, one can work with Projects of vastly larger sizes, than the amount of RAM.
