Probably not natively in CS4.
There wasn't native support until CS5... CS4 needed an add-on.

There is a different Forum for CS4.

Timecode missing from Sony NX5U NXCAM
A well documented problem exists in reading the timecode from Sony NXCAM NX5U cameras. When importing the timecode Premier CS5 always reverts to 0:00 for each clip. Edius always was able to read the timecode. FCP has a new release that can read the timecode now. Has anyone heard anything about any effort by Adobe to fix this problem? Interestingly and almost (almost) humorously, Vegas 9 also has the problem with not being able to read the timecode..
Like other cameras that shoot AVCHD, you need to preserve the folder structure from the cards in order for timecode to be read. I don't think that timecode is recorded into the MTS files, but in metadata files stored along in the folder structure. I believe these are the CPI (clip information) files inside the PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\CLIPINF folder. I don't have an NX5U folder structure to test, but I do have one from a Panasonic HMC150. If I move/rename the CLIPINF folder, all the clips start 00:00:00:00. If the folder is there, however, the timecode is read.
The upshot is that if all you have are MTS files, Premiere won't read the timecode. -
Camera raw cs4 and sony dsc-rx100
how do i make cs4 camera raw to work with sony's dsc-rx100?
Support for the RX-1 was added in Camera Raw 7.3. But I don't know if your camera was added before that or not. At any rate it wasn't supported in any version for Photoshop CS4. IF support has been added, you will have to use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Those will open with what you have now. It might be that support for your camera will be added in an upcoming update. If that is the case then you will have to wait until the DNG converter update is released. But I can tell you that your native raw files will never be usable with ACR for Photoshop CS4.

I have read a number of forum treads and I'm at my wits end. I want to capture in HD edit it in real time and export to DVD, BlueRay and Flash. I have spent hours on support and updated every driver and configuration setting that I know. PLEASE will someone tell me what do I need to do to get this to work?
Is it the DELL? Do I go to a Mac? (Ironic that most adobe tutorials are on Macs) Do I need a different solution? I'm going crazy! Maybe it's me and I'm capturing and creating sequences all wrong. Please provide a workflow that is working for you. Let me know if you need more specifics. Thank you in advance!2. I did a search for HDVSplit and came up with this site. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm Is this correct? Is there a released version?

Sony NX5U footage strange (AVCHD)
First my computer specs:
Processor - Intel i7 950 @ 3.07 GHz
Motherboard - ASUS P6TD deluxe
Memory - 24 GB RAM
Motherboard cards:
PCIe x4 - Black Magic interface
PCIe 2.0 x16 - NVIDIA GTX570 #1 (card 1 driving 2 monitors)
PCI 1.0 - open (covered by NVIDIA Card)
PCI 1.0 - SATA 3 card (for 4 additional SATA ports)
PCIe2.0 x16 - NVIDIA GTX570 #2 (card 2 driving 2 monitors, 4 monitors total)
PCIe2.0 x16 - open (covered by NVIDIA Card)
OS - WIN 7 Pro 64 bit (all the latest updates...Adobe & MS)
Additional - Black Magic Design MultiBridge Pro 2, Sony HVR-M25U VCR, HD monitor on Multibridge Pro HDMI output, 1000 Watt power supply,
2 internal BluRay burners, 1 internal DVD burner, 1 external BluRay burner
Video drives - SATA 3 & outboard USB 2.0 (9 1/2 TB total space)
OK Here the story…
I have a new Sony NX5U camcorder, I first shot in in HD 1080/60i, then I used Sony Content Manager to bring footage in, opened Premier 5.5, the footage looked jaggy.
On the next shoot, I changed to SD 480/60i, as the final edit was to be shown from a DVD, used Sony Content Manager to bring footage in, opened Premier 5.5, the footage looked jaggy.
I dragged the clip to the new item (New BIN)... to set the presets the same as the footage.... the footage still looks jaggy
I even played back the footage on the camera, captured through the HDMI port on my Black Magic MultiBridge Pro, with the same results...
I exported (re-encoded) the footage as a H-264, also as a MS AVI...brought the footage back into Premier.... looked the same..
I set the sequence presets the same as I shoot… but to no avail…. My Sony PD150 footage looks better.
The footage jerks... not smooth... forget trying to pan...
Notice the telephone wires...not smooth... I call the effect "The Jaggies" (I believe the same as aliasing)... What am I doing wrong? See picture below (the video looks much worse than the picture shows)
the telephone lines look like stair steps... (but on the Sony flip out monitor... it looks great... also much smaller monitor, though)Try This:
copy footage from SD card to your HDD then use a Blackmagic preset AVCHD for a new sequence (don't use Standard def footage from these cameras). If you have a BM card you should have a TV connected if so what does that picture look like. When you putput via Encore burn a DVD not a Blu-Ray and that will downscale for you.

Jittery footage with Sony NX5u
Not sure if this is a camera question or editing, but I'll try the question in this forum first.
I've filmed a dozen projects with my new Sony NX5u cameras but am just now getting around to editing the first one (big mistake ).
Video is SD 720x480 60i. When I play it back it is fine on the computer monitor as well as the HD preview monitor (although the interlacing is bad - separate question probably) but when I burn it to DVD using iDVD and play it back on a regular SD television (not flatscreen / HD) it plays back very jittery, as if I filmed it with 1/30 shutter speed or in 24p and wasn't smooth. Even the static shots jitter but it's much worse with pans. The above setting on this camera should be the same as my older tape cameras (Panasonic DVX 100 series), right? 30 fps equals 60i.
First off, could this be a camera issue or an editing/settings issue? Secondly, is there a fix?
Oh, I have tried adding the deinterlace filter and MAYBE there is a slight improvement but not much.
Thank you very much,
EricThe exported clip:

Hi all
New to the forums so forgive the newbie question.
I just bought a Sony NX5U but I'm still shooting SD with my VX-2100s (mostly weddings). At this point I need to shoot SD with my NX5U to match footage with my 2100s. How do I shoot and bring in the SD footage into FCP 6.0.6? Thanks in advance for the help.Hi Larry,
Drop one of your VX2100 clips into a new sequence and click "yes" to the question, do you want to change sequnce settings to match clip settings. Then go to your sequence settings in the top menu bar and write down all the settings. Then go to MPEG streamclip, or whatever your using to convert, and use the exact same settings to convert your NXcam clips. Hope this works.

Combining SD footage with Sony EX 1080p footage
Hey All -
I have FCP 7 -I have SD footage I ripped from a DVD (640x480)
I have Sony XDcam EX footage that was shot at 1920x1080p (23.97)
The Codec that the EX footage was converted to is Apple XDcam EX 1080p24 (35mb)
I have MPEG Steamclip or After Effects CS4 to convert the SD footage
I need to edit the SD footage in the XDcam footage timeline.
What are my options?? I know when you mix footage you usually have to render the footage.
Any work arounds for my situation?
thanks
MattHey Shane
Actually I havent had any problem playing the footage in a XDcam timeline -BUT I will take your advice into consideration
The final product is going back to DVD and compressed for the web -
I know this would be compressing the SD footage more but right now it doesnt matter. I was thinking of converting the DVD footage to QT -take that QT mov and make a 1920x1080 in After effects and put the SD footage inside of that and render that out so it will match the EX footage -that way I wont have to render in FCP.
I know the client is going to want to use some of the SD footage --I just wanted to make it as easy as possible for me when the client is sitting there editing it with me

Capturing Issues using FCP 7 and Sony HVRZ7U
I am using FCP 7.0.3
On a Mac Book Pro OS 10.5.8
With 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo processor
I am capturing HD tapes to a WD 2TB external drive.
I am using the Sony HVRZ7U as my playback deck All HD footage was shot on Sony HVRZ7U and Sony HDRFX1.
I have my capture settings set to HDV apple pro res 4222
A. I have noticed that FCP is not capturing in “real time” is this due to the hi res capturing setting? and do I need to let FCP finish process footage even though tape is done with capture? (This usualy adds another 20mins per 1 hr off footage) Is there something I can do to maintain high quality and not have to wait for FCP to be behind capture?
B. Having already gone through aprox 20+ tapes I have come across a few tapes that wont capture? is this due to the fact that not all tapes came from the same camera source? or is it perhaps a bad tape? or something in FCP that went buggy? i tried the usual dumping my preference files, but still fcp keeps frezzing on the capture and then not saving any of the file. I tired to capture smaller portions of tape but still no mater where on tape I try to capture I get same problemA. Yes and yes. Only by increasing the speed of the processor.
B. Maybe because of the different camera types, what cameras are they? It could be a bad tape. Can you view it playing back in your camera? -
Illustrator cs4 and photoshop cs4 animation files
In ps cs4 using the animation tools you can draw over an image frame then save out the frames of the drawings. I would like to know if in illlustrator cs4 if you can open the movie files (they could be avi etc) in illustrator cs4 and save the line drawing on each frame as a vector file?
TIA
JohnOK
To explain the project maybe you can help.
I shoot some live footage with video camera HD 720p - this footage is to be rotoscoped of the action of the character.
The HD 720p is not 2k res so their ratio is not correct for 2k so I was thinking the line drawings (rotoscoped) bring them into illustratorcs4 and convert the line drawings into vector files so they can be brought into the 2k file size and scaled to ratio that works with the 2k files
Once these line drawing vectors are on the correct frames in the movie 2k file - framesave them out and paint in pscs4extended and paint the layer and save back out into a movie file (avi, etc)
Your thoughts about doing this would be appreciated and which software to use

Sony F5 RAW footage goes offline when switched to slog2
I am editing in Premiere Pro CC 2014, fully updated. I have a project with only Sony F5 RAW footage and some of the clips have gone offline when I opened the project this morning. Nothing has changed and it was working yesterday. I tried several things to no avail, and decided to just reimport the effected clips (which were indiscriminate across sequences and source locations). This worked fine, until I changed the source settings for the clips to slog2 and they immediately went offline again. Any idea what's going on? I would really rather not transcode everything.
Hi Gordon,
Could you send the project and that clip to us? We would like to have a deep look.
I'm sending you a PM.
Thanks,

Canon 5dMII and Sony A900 support
New released cameras need ACR and Lightroom support for Canon 5dMII and Sony A900.
Jeff, CS4 shipping dates have not been announced (I'm on the list to be notified when CS4 will ship. There is no announcement... yet speculation of end of October shipping is from adobe saying they expect CS4 to ship in Fourth quarter 2008. no guarantee of that shipping date, until it's announced. In Fourth quarter 2008 could be end of December, we have to wait and see) As for 5DMII the shipping date is rumored at end of November 2008, but not announced, and that date seems to be headed toward mid-December or January.....I do agree that LR2.1 and ACR4.6 will likely be released by Fourth quarter, pending no major bugs are found in either program.
I expect adobe gets cameras for testing and profiling when reviewers received the camera. So, yes, If production cameras are available to a select few I expect adobe, to have the camera and, to be building support for the camera including that support once they complete their profiling; regardless of the camera shipping date.
LJ the unofficial support for the A900 is due to ACR using the A700 raw profile to work with the A900 RAW files. This is not the same as supporting the camera. Yes, it allows A900 owners to work in RAW, but not with the correct profile. -
AfterEffects CS4 and AVCHD/.m2ts
I have Premiere Pro CS4 and downloaded the trial version of AfterEffects CS4. I have a Sony HDR-SR12 camcorder that I uses the video source and it produces AVCHD .m2ts files.
While Premiere Pro CS4 imports this file format just fine, and it's on the list of importable file formats for AfterEffects CS4, when I try to import one of these files into AfterEffects, it says "Unsupported File Format".
Is this because I'm using the trial version, or is the spec sheet wrong? I tried calling Adobe Support, but they won't talk to me until after I buy.
Secondary question, probably obvious to experts: if I can't import .m2ts into AfterEffects, what is the least lossy way to get video from Premiere Pro CS4 (which I do own) into AfterEffects CS4?
Thanks in advance...Ahhh, thanks! I did see this, not on the download page, but via a link from that page:
The trial versions of Adobe After Effects® CS4, Flash CS4 Professional, Adobe Premiere® Pro CS4, and Soundbooth® CS4 software do not include some features that depend on software licensed from parties other than Adobe. For example, some codecs for encoding MPEG formats are available only with the full version of these products.
But it says "encoding" (I'm trying to import) and AVCHD isn't on the list of exportable formats. The confusing thing is that it just doesn't recognize the extension at all. It would be better if the trial version would say "not supported in trial version" when one attempts to open a .m2ts file. I do have Premiere Pro CS4 already and it has no trouble with these files -- it would be nice if the AfterEffects trial would just use the already-licensed installed Codecs.
Thanks again for clearing this up. -
MacPro and Editing Red Camera footage in FCP
Hi, I'm looking to but a Mac Pro, but am not sure the most economical spec required to edit 4K fotage from the Red, Rendering etc. I don't want frustration. I'm looking at 8-Core,4.64GHz, 16G RAM, but would the 1G video card from Apple the work for this or do I need a Ndivia 1G card? I'm told I need to get the 1G Ndivia...is that so?
1 - Will I be able to edit with both the Panasonic and Sony footage in my timeline??
Yes, but what is your intended timeline format? You might want to transcode the XDCAM HD to DCPRO HD and edit in a DVCPRO HD timeline rather than visa versa, or perhaps transcode both the XDCAM HD and DVCPRO HD sources to your intermediate tiemline format just to make your life easier.
2 - Do I need extra software to play the Sony XD Cam footage??
No, assuming you are running FCP 5.1.2 or later, but if you will need to ingest the footage from XDCAM disc yourself then you'll need Sony's free XDCAM Transfer software to bring it in.
3 - is there something else that could cause a problem??
I guess a freak wave could come out of nowhere ... -
Sony NX5U Log & Transfer Long Clips Issue
I've used FCP Studio for a very long time, and have been using the Sony NX5U camcorder for 3 years. Never had any problems once FCP 7.0.3 came out. But about a year and a half ago, I started noticing long clips would crash FCP 7 just seconds before the end of the upload. The max length seems to vary between 65 minutes and 75 minutes. I could swear I had earlier projects with longer clips and no problem but couldn't track any down. Yesterday I uploaded a 74 minute clip no problem, but a 93 minute clip crashed. Today a 68 minute clip crashed the program. Never had a problem with clips under 60 minutes.
The upload indicator bar gets within 1/32 of an inch from the end when the crash happens.
My work-around has been to break the clip into clips shorter than 60 minutes. I overlap the time code by about 1 second and then put it all together on the timeline.
I started looking at the forum today because in the last few days I recorded two separate projects each with multiple long rolls of either music performances or speeches. Most are about 90 minutes, two as long as 180 minutes. It's a hassle breaking these clips into shorter pieces so today I started reviewing the forum to see if anyone else has run into this.
There doesn't seem to be a lot posting about it, and the the ones that do post seem to have different "crash" times ... I saw one having a similar problem with clips 45 minutes in length, for example. The only suggestions offered are to use programs like Clip Wrap.
Is this really a restriction with Sony AVCHD files and Log & Transfer in FCP 7? I tried a few third-party solutions but they seemed cumbersome. When FCP 7 Load & Transfer works, it works great. It's just these 65+ minute clips that are the problem.
I just doubleclicked on a 123 minute clip in the AVCHD Package in the Finder, and it opened fine in QuickTime Player X. I can export it out of there. The "Movie" export did it very quickly ... less than 20 minutes ... but it ends up as an H.264 file so I would need to render in FCP 7 or deal with it in Compressor to get it to ProRes. But it does give me one cohesive clip.
What other experiences have users had trying to Load & Transfer long Sony AVCHD clips into FCP 7?
I'm OS 10.8.4 on my iMac and 7.0.3 in FCP. I run into the same length restrictions running FCP 7 on a new MacBook Pro. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.I've never worked with clips that long but have noticed a problem skimming longer clips in Log + Transfer to set in / out markers.
My advice would be to use Clipwrap. You can either re-wrap the file or transcode it to PR.
Their gig is file conversion so if there's a problem they'll eventually fix it.
Hope that helps.
