CS4 and Windows 7 64-bit

I have CS4 Design Premium and am looking at buying a new computer that will have Windows 7 64-bit.  My problem is that I can't seem to get a straight answer about whether or not it's compatible.
I called Adobe support and asked him directly and he said no, CS4 will not work on Windows 7 64-bit.  After a little more digging I suspect that he was doing what sales people do and was trying to up-sell me to CS5.  I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it, a new computer is expensive enough by itself.  I searched these forums 10 or 12 pages deep and I've seen a few threads about this very thing, some people are having trouble here and there and others got it resolved and it's working fine.
Seeing that some people got it working gives me hope, but I don't want to go through a troubleshooting nightmare either.
Can someone here set the record straight please?
I appreciate any help I can get
Thanks,
jay e

As Dov has already stated that CS4 is compatible with Windows 7 and it should install and run fine.
There are various component which get installed along with Adobe Softwares hence it will be hard to state where exactly the installation is stopping without actually viewing the logs.
Please share the install logs from the below locations :-
• Windows 32 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\
• Windows 64 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers
The log filename includes the product name and install date, followed with ".log.gz." The extension .gz indicates a compressed format.
NOTE :- Place the log file on Pastebin.com and share the link here.

  • CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility

Has anyone successfully installed CS4 on Windows 8? I am currently using Windows XP and received a pop up saying Microsoft are no longer releasing updates for XP after August and I am entitled to a free download of Windows 8. I am trying to decide whether to do this but risk losing my use of CS4 which I really don't want to do. Any advice much appreciated as not sure whether to just continue with XP. Thanks in advance.

If you search Google using the terms "CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility" you can probably find various results from both Adobe and Microsoft that should give you some idea of how much of a gamble you might face in changing your OS.
In my own experience, a change in OS has yet to be a positive experience... while most people loved XP in its day, I suffered years of poor performance with it as an upgrade from the moment it was installed and regretted doing it.  Maybe you've had better experience and aren't as shy of it as I am.

  • CS4 and Windows VISTA

    Hi out there,
had CS3 installed on Windows VISTA and experienced numerous crashes. I am editing in HD (AVCHD and HDV). Was told that Windows XP is more stable. Upgraded to CS4 and at the same time installed XP. No longer any problems. I am moving to documentaries with longish video lengths. No I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?) and VISTA would be the answer (also 64 bit). I don't want to go back to VISTA and experience the crashes again. Anyone experience with VISTA and CS4? Has the stability of VISTA in the meantime improved to the level of XP? Or has CS4 learned to handle VISTA? Advise appreciated. Helmuth

I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?)
This is the amount of RAM that the OS sees, and is NOT the limit on file sizes. The only file size limitations will come from working with DV-AVI Type I files, or from using FAT-32 formatted HDD's. PrPro is built around using DV-AVI Type II files, which are not limited in file size.
As John points out, one can work with Projects of vastly larger sizes, than the amount of RAM.

  • Problem with Encore CS4 (and Windows 7, possibly)

    Greetings:
Anybody else having this problem? First I'll get my system blood work out of the way. It's a brand new HP Pavillion.
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    8GB RAM
    Over 700GB of FREE harddrive
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5 GHz
Video Chip Set: Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset
I have ensured that everything is updated. This includes:
    All CS4 Applications
    Windows 7
    My Graphics Card Driver
    My Display Driver
I have also updated the Roxio PX Engine to V4.18.16a. I had read on a forum that Encore uses this driver and it should be up to date.
OK, the problem, which I can reproduce with the simplest Encore project:
    1.     Start Encore
    2.     Create a new project - specify DVD - everything else id default.
    3.     Create a timeline
    4.     Import asset. It is a simple Standard Video AVI file, 720x480.
    5.     Select timeline for editing
    Here's what happens:
    A) Monitor window behaves normally. I can click play and watch the imported video. Sound is fine, everything is fine. I can start and stop the play back freely. All is well.
    B) Now, I can do a number of things to create the problem I am having. The simplest is to just go to the timeline editor, select the AVI asset that has just been there, running fine, and remove it from the time line. At this point, the monitor window's internal frame that used to represent the video view port area, disappears. By "disappears", I mean that the Monitor window goes to the background color which is used for empty, unused window regions. What had been there before was a jet-black frame representing the video view area
Now, if I go to the project window and re-select the AVI asset that I was just viewing and put it BACK into the timeline, the Monitor does not restore. If I play the timeline, the monitor is still blank, although I can hear sound.
In addition to this, I also find that Encore has slowed so that response to the simplest operation is extremely slow. It doesn't crash, although, it might if I hang around long enough - but I don't. If I shut down Encore and restart it, it will work OK until I start manipulating video assets again and then the same thing will happen.
I should mention that, yes, I have this new computer but I was using Encore on an older and much slower XP system with less memory and drive space and I had no trouble with encore. I should also point out that the AVI assets that I use to produce this problem are the same ones I had used successfully on the older system.
Is there anyone out there that would find this problem familiar? Anyone find a solution?
Thanks in advance to anyone that responds.

    Hi John:
Thanks but, I had already done this. I was having THAT problem with Encore (could not even initialize before tanking) when I first installed it and that's when I updated the Roxio engine. I don't know what else there is to update or correct at this point.
There was one thing that occurred to me: When I was using XP, I had to disable Open GL in order to get Encore to stabilize. I've heard one recommendation for Encore that one must disable graphics acceleration. I would like try that here except I can't figure out how to do that in Windows 7.
I've been Googling "Windows 7 Disable Graphics Accel" and have come up with nothing useful.
Thanks for your help though and if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.

  • Quicktime and Windows 64-bit OSs

    Hello,
Does anybody know how to get Quicktime to show the control bars on an web video when the OS is Windows and it is 64-bit.
I have tried in XP 64-bit, Vista 64-bit and 7 64-bit, but all I get is the first picture in the video, no controls to get it to start.
    Thanks

The bars never show up in 64bit Vista with QT 7.6.4. They do show up in 7.6.6 but 7.6.6 has some play issues that have not been resolved yet.

  • From CS2 to CS4 and from 32-bit to 64-bit

This might make some of you laugh but i upgraded from Ps CS2 full version which is 32-bit to CS4 and i want to install my upgrade CS4 on a new Vista 64-bit system. Will this enable my upgrade to run as 64-bit? Or do i have to buy the full version of CS4 in order to have it run as 64-bit?

Personally,I don't think is a strange question, mainly because I will be in the same position soon. If I understand correctly, you are concerned that you wont be able to install CS4 64bit if you have to install CS2 first. Is that correct?
If so, I'm in the same boat. I assume that it will be possible as it is possible to run CS2 in 64bit mode.

    Hello
When you compile your application, you must use x86 type as target CPU. reason: B1 and SDK components are running in 32 bit mode under x64 machines. x64 application cannot communicate x86 applications in .COM components. Your addon is compiled to x64, and the DI API is x86 compiled.
This is the reason why you receice error message,
Also nice, if you give the directirve Win32 = True to the compiler when you build you appliaction.

  • Reinstalled Premiere Pro CS4 in windows 64 bit Vista and it worked, then today I am receiving error message 1

  • CS4 and Windows 7?

I have CS3 currently running on Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It was kind of a pain to get working. Microsoft is running a preorder sale on Windows 7 right now, and since the price is good, I am planning to upgrade (it'll be released in October I think). I was also thinking I would upgrade to CS4 by then. Will I have any issues running CS4 on 7? Also, should I switch back to 32-bit Windows? Seems like the 64-bit has some compatibility issues (a lot of software runs in compatibility mode or whatever because there is no 64-bit version).

I upgraded from Vista 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit / RTM (I have it a little early via MSDN membership) with CS4 installed. So far the only issue I have encounterred is with Adobe Soundbooth CS4. Some of the dialogs such as "Save As" have some problems with pop-up menus for options (example: audio options when saving as .WAV file). The controls in these pop-up menus (buttons, drop downs, etc) do not seem to recognize mouse clicks. Generally I have been able to get around this by using TAB, ARROW KEYS, and ENTER. Strangely, the controls hosted in the main application all work fine. It is only the controls in pop-up menus such as "Save As" and "Edit->Preferences" that seem to be affected.
I have had no problems  with the "core" CS4 applications, although I have only used Photoshop CS4 Extended (64 bit), Bridge, and Lightroom enough for reasonable testing. Also, since I upgraded, I have no experience of the activation process under Windows 7.
By the way, I also am very pleased with Windows 7 so far.

  • CS4 and Windows 7 - HDV issues

    System Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1)
    Dell
    Intel Dual Core 2.93GHz
    64-bit
    8 GB RAM
Premiere Pro CS4 - Latest updates installed.
We've had a continual flow of problems with this program and as soon as we think we've fixed it with re-installs and updates - the problems return or new ones pop up.  I'm at my wits end really and hope someone can give us some help.  I cannot give you a detailed history of all the reinstalls, etc that we've done in the last 3 months or more but I will give you the current problems.
    1. HDV is gone.  Gone in capture settings and new project options.  All projects using HDV files now say those files are offline and "unsupported format or damaged"  This was not the case only a few days ago.  No updates, no uninstalls and no system changes since.  This no-HDV is completely out of the blue...
    2. Tried to recapture footage from Canon HDV (HV20 A) camera.  Capture opens saying Camera Offline but Device Control works (play, fast-forward etc - Record is grayed out)
We've had the no HDV in the capture/new project options problem before and I think we fixed it with updates.  This time arouond the problems are back and seemingly worse - it's as if Windows 7 arbitrarily decided to jettison HDV from its system.
Hope this gives adequate context.  I will try to answer any questions to further help in solving this problem.
Best regards,  troy & az @ pbzinc

  • PC Font Management, CS4 and Windows 7

    I have a new PC.
Starting from scratch I had Windows Vista 64 installed as this was just before the Microsnot launch of Windows 7. I bought CS4 Design Premium and had this pre-loaded. I downloaded Extensis Font Fusion 2 and loaded that. After loading this I had issues with Illustrator crashing and also Indesign and Flash. Also Photoshop 64 pretty much wouldn't work at all. I removed Font Fusion2 and found the Adobe products were less flakey but still not solid. I then upgraded Windows to V7 64bit. This also improved matters though PS64 still wasn't 100% stable.I called extensis and they said that they had released a version that answered this issue, but since loading the latest version of Suitcase Fusion 2 Illustrator has become very much less stable and also PS64 is now unusable, which is a bit of a shag as I have paid to have 12 gB of ram in this machine which is only used by the 64bit apps.
I have called Adobe technical who were pretty unhelpful.
Has anyone found a good type manager for under £100 that actually works with Adobe CS4?

If you're working on a stand-alone machine, why not trying to work without font management?
I worked with suitcase 11,  and all went fine. (running on xp64).
Since we're in a network, we opted for universal type server and client, both working well. I'm sure that on the web the're several free managers can be found

  • Production Premium CS4 and Windows 7 64bit

How is Production Premium CS4 working with Windows 7 64bit?  Is it compatible?
I checked the System Requirements and it does not mention Windows 7.
I just wanted to check and see what other user experiences have been like.
    Anything to look out for?
    Thanks!

CS 4.1 worked the same as under XP. I think I had some minor issue with DL & AE. Don't clearly remember because I've been using CS5.5 since it came out. If you can afford the upgrade, Just Do It! You get Audition and lots of 64-bit power & speed. If you've got a decent nVidia card, downoad the CUDA hack (which basically consists of changing one line of text so the card is recognized) and get even more juice.
    CS5.5 is Da Bomb!
....Or you could buy a Mac and go with FCPX. Now there's a real bomb!!!....LOL, ROFL,
