CS4 bridge displays jpegs thumbnails only

CS4 bridge displays jpegs thumbnails only
Can someone who may have seen this problem or experienced a silimilar issue explain what is happening to CS4 bridge. I just installed PC version of CS4 photophop. It appears that in bridge, only jpegs thumnails will display. Tiffs and PSD files only show up as icons. Also the file association menu seems to have disappeared. Now if I log in as administrator , everything works properly. All thumbnails display correctly, assoication menu appears and bridge will update fine. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening here??
Joel F

Did this happen recently, or has it always worked this way?  If this is a new occurance some file may be corrupted and your best bet would be to reset Bridge.  You can do that by holding down Crtl and starting Bridge.  A reset window will appear, choose all 3 options.
One other point.  If you are using Vista and an external drive there can be persissoning problems, but this does not seem like it should be one.

  • CS4 Bridge hoses jpegs

I needed to use a Jpeg camera original image (created in May 2008) in CS4 and viewed it with Bridge then tried Crtl-R to open it in Camera Raw. The image opened, all the control were there, I brightebed it up a bit and hit OPEN and ... hey - presto the image was corruprted. Tried the same thing on the next image in the folder and got the same results.
We had backed up the folder on DVD so I've lost some time but not the two images.
    What's going on?

Bridge defaults to opening jpegs into ACR. This is a question that's better for the Bridge forums.
Did you confirm the jpegs are corrupted via another image viewer/editor?

  • Problems with Bridge displaying all thumbnails

How can I get Bridge to display all my tif thumbnails?  Some display; others don't.  I've tried refreshing the view and purging the cache.

Can you be a bit more specific about OS and Bridge version you are using. Also can you state what the sizes of your Tiff files are (by default Bridge does not show previews and good thumbs for files larger then 1GB) . Maybe even provide a screenshot of your Bridge window with the problem tiffs?

  • Suddenly, Bridge displays photo colors wrong

I've been using Photoshop Elements for several years--frequently--like almost daily. I'm currently using elements 6.0 with Bridge. I always view my photos in bridge before doing anything else.  All of a sudden, starting last week, when I open a folder in bridge, I can see in the thumbnails that the colors are OK, but very shortly thereafter, and/or when I click a thumbnail to preview an image, it drastically changes the colors in both the thumbnails and the preview. Like--a bright red rose becomes a dull muted red. A deep purple flower becomes bright blue. It's driving me nuts. I can't find anything in Bridge preferences. I am not a user who knows a thing about "color profiles" or anything else--I tweak photos individually using fairly simple features in Elements (use the Levels tool, adjust brightness and contrast, once in a while futz with hue or intensity for the photo, stuff like that).
I haven't to my knowledge set anything globally. I haven't that I can recall installed any automatic update to the adobe products. I'm using the same camera, the same memory cards. I've never had this happen in hundreds upon hundreds of uses of bridge & photoshop, and many thousands of photos, and now it's doing it constantly.
A week or two ago I was futzing with hue & saturation on some individual photos, but that batch of photos was all fine and I didn't notice that it affected anything other than the photo I was working on. Could I have set something somewhere accidentally and never known it?  I've searched the help for bridge & elements, searched the forums and found some similar questions but they don't seem to be the same situations.
    Help me, Mr/Ms Wizards!

What you're seeing in Bridge is perfectly normal, expected behavior.
Initially, Bridge displays a thumbnail straight from the in-camera converted and embedded JPEG preview embedded in the raw file.  Then, Bridge calls upon Adobe Camera Raw to build its own rendering from the raw data themselves.  Because the rendering criteria for ACR are not designed to emulate the in-camera raw-to-JPEG conversion, there will be a definite change in the images.
I cannot speak to Elements because I don't use it, nor are most regular posters familiar with that very limited, emasculated application.  We use the full, professional-level version of Photoshop.  Elements is not the same as Photoshop.  The differences are great and varied.  Last year I did buy a license for Elements to use on a laptop, but successfully demanded my money back from Adobe.
If you're seeing a marked difference in the display of the thumbnail and the final rendering of the same after a few seconds, check your preferences.  Make sure that the box labeled "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" is NOT checked in the Camera Raw preferences.  This will minimize the differences.
You may want to trash your Bridge preferences first by launching Bridge while you hold down the Option key.  Then make sure the "Apply auto tone adjustments box"  is NOT checked.
Whenever an application begins to act weirdly "suddenly", that's a sign of corrupted preferences that need to be trashed.

  • Bridge CS4 doesn't display PNG thumbnails?

I just did a reformat, and this time round my bridge isn't displaying .png thumbnails.  Have emptied caches and reset preferences to no avail.  Help?  Thanks

I just did a reformat, and this time round my bridge isn't displaying .png thumbnails.
Could you be a bit more specific about what OS system you are using, what your exact version of Bridge is and what you mean with doing a reformat, does that mean a whole new system on a completely new formatted disk (and what type of formatting did you use for that) etc.
And did you already try to select a PNG file and use right mouse click to purge cache for selection.
Does the PNG icon appear or is it a white thumb?
    Questions, all questions...

  • Jpeg thumbnails too dark in CS5 bridge

All of a sudden my jpeg thumbnails appear very dark and muddy in CS5 bridge. Such images are of normal brightness when opened in Photoshop proper.
Equally puzzling is when a jpeg image is then "saved as" back to the same folder as a TIFF (for example) the jpeg looks dark but the TIFF version of the same file looks correct. RAW files still look correct.
This seems to be a recent problem as jpeg images I processed a few ago weeks ago still dislay normally in bridge.
I've tried purging the folder cache without effect. Thumbnail quality is set to "always high". I feel I may have accidentally altered a setting but cannot think wghat it might be. Please help.

Since my posting I have realised this problem is confined to images from the Nikon D800 camera ONLY. Jpegs from my other Nikon cameras display normally.
That does indeed not indicate to a cache problem alone. But you stated in your earlier post purging cache did solve the problem temporarily hence my idea about this solution.
I still think you should try to move the files to another new folder but you have provided us with very less detail about what computer, systemOS etc you are using and if you have the correct ACR version for support of your Nikon D800 which I believe is ACR 6.7 (in Photoshop use menu Photoshop / about Plug ins / Camera Raw to check which version you have.
Just to say I shoot RAW and batch convert to sRGB jpeg from ACR. It doesn't matter what size option I save to from ACR.
I don't follow this workflow, shooting Raw provides you with all details and data from your sensor but you need to go through them for fine tuning the settings. Shooting jpeg means you loose a lot of those details and let the camera software decide to fine tune for you (in a nutshell, it is a bit more complicated…)
Shooting Raw and without change settings and fine tune just convert these files to sRGB jpeg is in my opinion pointless. You better use the option to shoot Raw + jpeg and use the jpegs out of camera for this purpose.

  • Bridge jpeg thumbnails and previews get RAW settings

On jpeg files without any RAW setting applied, Bridge still applies RAW settings to the thumbnails and the preview are thus display incorrectly. Opening the file shows the jpeg as it should be, without RAW settings applied.
I have RAW preferences set to apply auto settings to RAW files without any current settings.
I have my RAW settings to open jpegs in RAW *only* when they already have settings. If I set this to disable jpeg support, then the RAW settings are not automatically applied to jpegs without existing settings. aka, Bridge redoes the thumbnails without the auto setting.
While it is correct to apply this to RAW files without settings, jpeg files are already "developed/printed" and should not get additional auto develop settings automatically applied.
    My Bridge is 4.0.4.2
    Raw is 6.3

Thanks, I did, since it is affected by a RAW preference I figured a double post was acceptable.

  • Bridge CS3 not displaying .PNG thumbnails

This behavior started about 2 months ago and I cannot figure what changed or what to do to get rid of the generic .PNG icons and get back to the image thumbnails. It's not isolated to Photoshop generated .PNG's. Any app I have that can save in the .PNG format will appear as a generic icon in Bridge CS3.
.PNG's that were uploaded to our server prior to around mid-Feruary all have the proper thumbnails. Currently, replacing them or uploading the same file from before February produces the generic icon. Same thing in both in the main view and the Preview window.
The only thing that has changed on my machine between now and February was an OS bump from  10.6.1 to 10.6.3.
Every other format displays correct thumbnails. I've tried just about every suggestion dealing with missing thumbnails from the various "no thumbnail" posts in this forum...and still no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion or two...or three, that might help me clear this .PNG problem up? It's driving me bats trying to identify images.

I've tried just about every suggestion dealing with missing thumbnails from
the various "no thumbnail" posts in this forum...and still no luck.
Could you specify on that, meaning also purge cache for selection. Using
tool menu-cache, use the filter menu to select only PNG files for faster
    approach.
And you may not like this but using a more then 3 year old app on a new
(intel based and 64 bit OS system) might also not be the best route. CS5 is
just out now and rebuild for 64 bit systems like Snow Leopard is.
Also keep in mind CS6 will be your last option to upgrade according to the
Adobe upgrade policy, after this you will need a new full license.

  • Bridge "stops working" and displays split thumbnails and previews.

When working with Windows XP, my Photoshop/Bridge CS3 was working fine. On my new computer with Vista, Bridge acts up in strange ways. It sometimes shuts down spontaneously, causing a Windows "Bridge has stopped working" message to appear.
At other times, Bridge displays thumbnails that are split or only half there, with the preview image also split in half with the sides reversed. If I wait a few minutes, the proper thumbnails and preview finally appear, but this is a nuisance. BTW, the same copy of Bridge works just fine on my laptop with XP. When I contacted Adobe, they blamed it on Windows. When I contacted Windows, they blamed it on Adobe. Anyone with similar problems and suggested fix?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gerry,
as it is nearly two months since your initial post, you may have already solved your problem. In which case I'll continue with this reply for the benefit of anyone else who suffers the same affliction:
My problem was Bridge CS3 running on a 32-bit Vista Home Premium SP1, Intel Core 2 CPU T5300 @ 1.73GHz and 2GB of RAM (if that makes any difference). Like Curt, I'm no computer expert either but I was experiencing a very similar problem to your's in CS3 Bridge.
The error message contained something about the "nvlddmkm.sys" not working. The 'nvlddmkm.sys' refers to the driver for my graphics card, a 'NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300', whose driver I had recently updated (to solve a separate conflict between an updated BIOS - it never stops!).
After some fiddling, I discovered that changing the 3D Graphics setting on the Nvidia Control Panel made Bridge once again behave.
Open the Nvidia Control Panel (right click on the 'desktop' to access it).
Under the '3D Settings' task, select 'Adjust Image Settings with Preview'. This should reveal a window with an image of a slowly spinning, three-dimensional Nvidia logo. (I understand that the Nvidia Control Panel is common to all its cards.)
Under the spinning logo image there are three options for 3D settings. On my computer, while my Bridge was broken, the "Use my preference emphasizing: Balanced" option was selected. I changed the option to, "Let the 3D application decide" and crikey! - when I restarted Bridge the previews were once again working. (It may be my imagination, but Bridge appears to now be going better than ever.)
I switched the Nividia preferences a couple of times just to make sure. The change appeared to have done the job.
    NB: I noticed another discussion in the forums entitled "Suddenly No Images in Bridge" which appears to be a similar problem. They resolved it this way;
"Depress and hold Ctrl-Alt-Shift when you start PS or Bridge. A menu comes up with three options. Check them all."
I didn't see that fix until I had sorted mine so I haven't tried it... but now that 'it ain't broke', I 'ain't gonna fix it'!
Hope this helps you or someone else.

  • CS4 Bridge not returning to selected thumbnail after batch rename

Using Bridge CS4.  Directory has several hundred RAW files.
I grab some images from the middle of the bunch and do a batch rename.  Sometimes Bridge returns the thumbnail display to the ones that were selected, sometimes it doesn't.  When it doesn't, I have to scroll back down to my selected images. I can't figure out what is or isn't set that gets Bridge to return to my selected images instead of leaving me at the start of the thumbnails......

First use the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder, if still in trouble restart Bridge holding down option key to refresh preferences

  • My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails.  I have to open each one to see what photo it is.  This has just recently started to happen.

My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails.  I have to open each one to see what photo it is.  This has just recently started to happen.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked.  This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).

  • Jpeg thumbnails wont display in organiser

Has can one got a solution as to why I can't view jpeg thumbnails in elements 10 organiser???

    Try these options:
    1) In the Organizer; under File->Catalog, select your catalog and click Optimize. OR
    2) In the Organizer; under File->Catalog, select your catalog and click Repair. OR
    3) Try rebuilding the thumbnails as per these steps:
3.1. In Help > System Info, find the folder containing your catalog.
    3.2. Exit PSE.
3.3. In that folder, delete the file “thumb.5.cache”.

  • CS4 Bridge - Image and Contact Sheet Problems (Windoze)

Problem #1: Out of shear chance, the first directory that I picked on that contains press images, resulted in Bridge not displaying thumbnails, or even being able to work with the image, because Bridge declares that the JPEG file is not a JPEG image. But, here is the kicker, when creating the thumbnails, it does briefly display a thumbnail before replacing it with the JPEG icon. There is nothing wrong with the images as Photoshop CS4 has no problem working with the same images. Double-clicking on the JPEG icon in Bridge results is it calling Photoshop to display the image. Lastly the images were created with Photoshop CS3 on a MAC, as indicated in the EXIF data. I haven't tracked down a pattern yet, as I just installed the software last night. Even so, there is no way that Bridge should have trouble reading CS3 produced JPEG images, but it does.
Problem #2: With the old contact sheet method, one could tell the plugin to include all sub-directories. I can't find a way to get Bridge to do the same thing. If it is there, it certainly is not user friendly. There was nothing online, or in the manual, about how to do that. While I like the idea of producing a PDF of the contact sheets, getting there is not so simple. I'm new to Bridge, having never having the need to use it prior to this release.
Any help with these two problems will be appreciated.

If Bridge can not show the thumbnail, Output workspace can not generate the PDF or web gallery for this image. Because it use the Bridge's DOM to process those images.
For the subfolder issue, you could use the Bridge's 'Show Items from sub-folder'. You could find this option from the directly path list at the tool bar, or from Menu View->Show Items from submenu.

  • Camera Raw icons don't display as thumbnails

New Canon T3i; I download files from camera to folder; the display as generic icon "CR2" in big blue letters, file is a page with camera lens staring at me. Previous camera Canon G11 worked fine; that is, transfer pics from camera, and without any processing the file icons display as thumbnails, if I have the View settings correct. Apple says its Canon's EOS Utility, not creating the thumbnail, whereas its CameraWindow for my G11 did. But; I was able to also transfer files from Camera to a folder via Adobe Bridge CS5, and it too didnt create thumbnails. So I'm ruling out Canon's file transfer software somewhat.
Canon says it's Apple, they need to update their OS. I pointed out that their Camera Raw Updater is only for Aperture & Iphoto and wont install any codec or driver specific to the OS. I can open the Raw files fine with Photoshop or Bridge CS5, and if I save file as a PSD, Tiff, or Jpeg, the Icon displays as a thumbnail. But I shouldnt have to process the files to display the icon as a thumbnail; if my G11 an do it, then a better camera ought to be able to do it too.
So who's not allowing the display of file thumbnails; Apple or Canon ?

    Jim + Jeff,
Thanks for the clarification. I know that in Bridge you can choose to sort files by pretty much whatever you want. It just seemed odd that if you just open files directly in PS (as far as I can tell) there's no way to adjust the order in which they display.
Oh well, if Bridge is the answer, then Bridge is the answer.
    Thanks.

  • Why won't raw images display as thumbnails in organiser?

My raw images display only as the 'egg timer' icons in Organiser.  I can open them individually, edit and save as jpeg but cannot view them on the grid either before or after editing. This has only just started happening - two weeks ago all was well. It's such a nuisance not being able to scroll down my images in order to decide which ones to edit.
    Here's what I've tried:
    Uninstalled Elements 12 and reinstalled
Checked for updates (all up to date)
    Updated thumbnails
Usually what happens after my images are imported is that I see these icons and they gradually open to reveal my raw images.  Now they just stay with the timer icon and nothing more happens.
Anyone help me before I tear out any more hair?  Thank you!

If you can use the 'update thumbnail' successfully on individual files and open those files in ACR correctly chances are that you are facing a computer power problem. Creating a thumbnail in the Organizer means opening the image to create a reduced version. For raw files, that means reading the raw file (32 GB each for my Fuji raws...), converting it using the last settings in the xmp sidecar files, then creating the reduced thumbnail. Several seconds, even with a decent  computer.
To get an idea of your problem, it would be good to know the type and size of your raw files and your computer specs.
Contrary to other viewing softwares which only show the embedded jpeg thumbnail in the raw file, the organizer shows a real preview.
