CS4 *bug*: doesn't check folder perm's, causes Error 1303

Sigh. This may be helpful to someone. I've not found a simple way to report this to Adobe yet. Perhaps someone there will see this.
At least on XP...
CS4's installer creates new folders owned by the "Administrators" group user.
But it does not check to see if that group has permission to create files and folders.
SO, if you're installing on a drive other than C:, there's a reasonable chance "Administrators" doesn't have the necessary permissions... and installation silently fails in strange ways.
In my case, the app installs fail without any explanation why unless you click "more" and read through the details. Even there it simply says "Error 1303. Not enough permission."... and when you look at the main folder you wouldn't know what the problem is unless you analyze in detail.
Fix:
a) Adobe's installer should check permission on the selected install folder and either fix it or tell the user
b) You can go into security settings on your preferred folder, and ensure that the "Administrators" group has Full Permission.

  • I have just installed LR 4.4 on a Mac after using it on a PC.  I am unable to backup to a catalog.  The program tells me to check "folder permissions" and for available space (there's like 500 GB free)

How do I fix this so I can backup to the external drive I have been using with my PC?

Did you check the permissions to wherever you are making the backup? You need write permission to make a backup.

  • Permissions issue causing error when copying digital copy to iTunes.

Hello. I have recently built a new wondiws computer. (I came from a mac, don't ask). I downloaded iTunes, I have put all of my music in there and synced up my phone and some of my digital copies from blu-rays. Suddenly (only a day later) I am unable to import my other digital copies of my movies into iTunes. I am getting an error that says (we will use The Avengers for this example) "An error occurred while copying 'The Avengers' from the DVD to your computer. You do not have enough access privleges for this iperation" Then under that it says "Check the DVD for dirt or damage, reinsert it, then try again."
It might be worth noting that I am running to hard drives. My operating system is on an SSD, and my iTunes files are on my regular hard drive. I don't know if that matters. Now I have tried doing my research and have not been able to fix this problem. I have tried....
    1. Right clicking my Itunes folder and making sure it has full access under security
    2. I have tried unchecking "Read-only" but it seems to recheckitself when I pull this menu up again to check on it.
    3. Turning off User Account Control
    4. Right clicking and running as adminstrator when I open iTunes.
    5. Reinstalling Itunes
I don't know what else to do. It's so strange because I was able to load all of my music and about 5 digital copies already, then all of a sudden it just stopped. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was finally able to fix this problem following the steps on this website
    http://lallousx86.wordpress.com/2009/06/14/resetting-ntfs-files-security-and-per mission-in-windows-7/
If you scroll down in the comments, you will see where he made a downloadable file. I downloaded that, dropped it into my sotrage hard drive, and then ran it. IT WORKED!! My Blu rays are copying succesfully now!!
If this helps evens one person in the future have a less of a difficult time than I did, I will be happy. Good luck!

  • 2012 R2 DFS-R stops replicating content between members when folder permissions changed

    Hello,
Since upgrading our DFS member servers (one is a physical DC, other is a VM dedicated to DFS role only) to 2012 R2 I keep getting caught in a weird replication problem. I finally found out when the problem starts, it's the change of Folder access permissions,
e.g. removing or adding a user account or group and I don't get it why exactly contents of such folder end up completely mismatched between DFS member servers.
To start from beginning, an example
Both DFS servers have a dedicated NTFS volume Y: with only 1 folder in it named Folder1 which is shared and added as Folder target on both DFS member servers. Replication group exists for that Folder1 and data is in perfect sync. New/altered content is properly
replicated to other members server in no time (<1s), everything works perfectly well.
Now, Folder 1 contains a dozen sub-folders with permission inheritance enabled, data de-duplication is enabled as well as FSRM file screening to avoid temporary files, thumbs.db and other junk of that sort. Let's say Subfolder1 requires admin to change permissions
so certain group of users get a read-only access to files stored inside while others can retain modification permission to put new files or so.
The moment I do that change it triggers a problem with DFS-R and I end up with proper copy of that sub-folder on DFS1 (physical server acting as DC) and maybe around 5-10% of content on DFS2 ... why is that so that a simple permission change operation breaks
the DFS-R every time? When that happens the DFS2 never gets those missing files, just like it didn't know it should have those.
DFS Health Report shows file count mismatch and regular File Sharing Violations from some opened files, but there is no mention of why the darn DFS2 is missing 90% of files in certain sub-folders ... it's so annoying ...
I found only 1 workaround for this problem so far, that is to manually pull out all files from affected sub-folder and get them out of shared Folder1 (simple cut and paste to new temporary folder on same volume works) on DFS1, so DFS2 clears that problematic
Subfolder1, and then manually dropping the files back in place on DFS1, later all is good on both servers ... pretty weird if you ask me.
I don't recall seeing this problem on "slow" 2008 R2 DFS-R ... Also I tested if maybe FSRM screening rules or data de-duplication has anything to do with problem, but they don't.
Does anybody else see this behavior between 2012 R2 DFS members?

interesting, seems the problem was with primary DFS member (the physical DC), it was simply not sending out updates to the partner, it was like that with all 2-way connections (all working one way from "secondary" to "primary" only).
I googled a bit a found that backups (we have nightly on either member server) trigger a pause state on replication, officially it's harmless, but what if it doesn't always automatically resume?
for now, from DFS Manager I removed all replication connections and checked if DFS2 still awaits some pending updates (sort of stuck on that), but it still did, so I had to disable its membership in all replication groups, that cleared that problem out.
After that I re-enabled its membership and re-created all 2-way replications connections, of course it triggered complete refresh of all replicated folders (no preseeding this time), but thankfully it was quick and finished in a few hours.
I also disabled backups on both servers for now, and all seems in sync except one folder where I think the problem was with incomplete replication database on "primary member" sort of being unaware of half of the files in folders - my workaround
worked on that one, just pulled all folder out of it, waited until secondary deleted them, then put them all back in and all seems replicating correctly now, also no more ghost connections.
Truly wondering what caused this madness over time, and mind you, all this setup was new, all was rebuilt on both servers (new logical volumes on both servers - one for each shared folder and replication group, new replication databases, new secondary member,
proper preseeding procedure, etc.) and it seems like this event below might actually be sometimes not so harmless as Microsoft says it is:
Event ID 5014The DFS Replication service is stopping communication with partner DFS1 for replication group domain.com\shared\folder due to an error. The service will retry the connection periodically. Additional Information: Error: 9036 (Paused for backup or restore)
It looks like sometimes, it may happen that after that warning the replication starts working only 1-way and never truly resumes which then in return can cause madness after something like updating ACL on some folder in replication content.
I re-enabled nightly backups on physical server ("primary" DFS member) for now and will keep an eye on it and potential havoc it can wreak across replication groups over time...
Hope it helps anybody stumbling upon similar problem some day ...

  • Trying to reset home folder permissions and acls

I have been having a nightmare of a time with Adobe apps, primarily Premiere Pro, crashing CONSTANTLY and randomly. I have no idea what's causing it and have been going back & forth to no avail for days with Adobe, and trying a bunch of different things. I keep getting an error that says Thread 0 Crashed com.apple.main .......
I am on a 2014 Mac Pro 12 core, 64GB Ram with dual AMD D700 GPUs, running Yosemite.
The steps I have tried have included messing around with various permissions within the Adobe folders and enclosed files. That led me to then need to completely reinstall my OS from recovery mode. I tried multiple times going into recovery mode, doing resetpassword in Terminal, and then trying to reset the home folder permissions from there, but it just never says done and don't think it's doing anything. I have let it sit for hours and not gotten anything back on it.
I searched the forums and found an older thread where Linc Davis had posted a terminal code to put in, and tried that. Many said that worked for them, but it didn't seem to change anything for me. After doing that, i did go back into recovery mode and see if i could reset the permissions from there, but again, just greyed out the Done button and stayed for hours.
I am at a complete loss on what to do and really need some help. I am days overdue on projects because of Adobe's crashes and because of the time I've been wasting trying to re-sort out the IT stuff that I don't really know much about. Can you please help? ANYONE?

it's only been with adobe applications, but unfortunately, they are just not being helpful. I'll paste a crash report here below, maybe you can make sense of it. They can't seem to and I certainly can't. I really don't know what to do. All they keep doing is asking me more questions, which to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense in itself. I would think that an Adobe Crash Report should tell Adobe exactly what's causing the crash. So frustrating and right now highly detrimental to my business.
The only thing that is happening of question besides the Adobe apps crashing is that I can't reset my home folder permissions through the recovery mode. I tried last night and let it run overnight and this morning, it still had not said 'Done'. So i'm not sure if that denotes a different problem somewhere

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions

    Hi All,
    Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions
We have a weird problem after migrating our PF from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Users do not have permission to create or delete in PF even thou they have owner permissions.
    Example:-
I have created a  '\test1' folder in the root which has the following permissions (this works OK):-
    Myself - Owner
    Default - Author
    Anonymous - None
I have created another folder '\admin\test2' folder which has the same permissions as above but i get the "cannot create the folder. you don't have appropriate permissions to perform this operation"
I get this problem across all of the folders that were migrated. clean folders created at the root with the correct  permission function as per expected.
    Regards
    Paul Sheldon

    Hi,
I recommend you use the Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity publicfolder command to check the client access permissions to a public folder.
If possible, please remove permission and re-add permission to check the result.
    Best regards,
    Belinda

  • ERROR You do not have enough access privileges / Music Folder Permissions

OS...W XP iTunes 7.6.2.9 HP. Classic 60 GB HP iPod. I have this error when I try to import some CD's. Am trying to import a brand new cd I just bought and error reads...
*"Error occured while converting the file "Large Time" ( or whatever the 1st songs name may be). You do not have enough ACCESS PRIVILEGES for this operation.*
iTunes could not save your music folder because you do not have write access. Check permissions on your Music folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try converting this file again".
Well I've tried every way I can think to check the permissions and am clueless. I do know that after going through my pc settings for folders, that after some time, I was able to save the last playlist and sync it. I've no idea why, but I do know I have this problem frequently. And it's BAaaaack.
If you find or have the answer please post...ty. MP3 players seem more user friendly, using WMP, but this iPod was more for the money.

    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • Office 365 MP Config Issue - Account doesn't have administrator permissions

    SCOM 2012 R2 RU3 | Windows Server 2012 R2
I just configured this MP in the environment using the following references:
    Office 365 MP Operations Guide
    Reference 1
    Reference 2
In addition I've configured the Office 365 Subscription Proxy secure reference.
When looking in the SCOM console I only see one error:
    Source:   Office 365 Monitoring
Full Path Name:    Office 365 Monitoring
Alert Monitor:    Office 365 Connection State monitor
    Created:    1/14/2015 4:42:56 PM
    Account doesn't have administrator permissions
    Knowledge:     View additional knowledge...
    Summary
The monitor oversees the availability connection to Office 365 API EndPoint.
    Causes
An error state is caused by having issues with connecting to Office 365 API EndPoint. It can be caused by:
    • Issues with global connection to Office 365 API EndPoint
    • Credentials for Office 365 Subscription's account are not correct
    • Office 365 Subscription's account is not allowed to getting data from Office 365 EndPoint API
I've verified that the account is able to log into the server, has the _identifier, and global admin permissions in the Office 365 admin console.
Wondering if there's anything I may have missed.
    Any responses appreciated.

  • Mac OSX file copy to Windows Share folder permissions

We'd got a few Mac's, one is snow leopard and the other is Lion.  The scenario is:
    Mac:
Go > Connect to server > smb://servernamehere > Connect > select your share
The authentication box then pops up, they've been typing in a username and password to connect to Server 2008 (Active Directory here by the way).  I don't think it matters if they type in "DOMAIN\username" and the password or just "username" and the password.
They try to copy files around but they get this wacky -xx number and their Macs lock up.
On the Windows Server Side I look at the folder permissions and the users they're using are all golden, full permissions.  I look at a test folder I create and it too looks good.
    The weird thing is this:
If I look at the folders on Windows it looks normal but if I open the command line on a Mac, do:
    cd /
    cd Volumes
    ls
    cd Folder_I'm_Connected_To
    ls -la | grep testfolder_I_made
    I get these results...
drwx------ 1 Their_Username_Here  staff  --> Some other stuff here like a folder size, date, time and the folder name
My question is this I guess.
Do I have to join these Macs to the Windows domain for the permissions and folder views on the Mac to look right AND to have them funtion properly?  The user of the other Mac says she never types in any authentication stuff, she just clicks a folder shortcut on her Mac ans she's in.
I would expect the permissions to at least say something like:
    drwxdrwx---
The Windows server doesn't have the group "staff" which makes it seem the Mac isn't looking at the mounted volume in the same way Windows is.  They also had this problem on AFP and SMB shares directly on a FreeNAS box which is also BSD like a Mac.
As a result of the Macs behaving similarly on both Windows and BSD (FreeNAS) I think this seems to be some wacky Mac behavior and I just can't figure it out.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi, same results at the terminal command on a SMB share, observed here with mac computers running with OsX 10.8 with Windows 2008 R2 SMB shares. My issue is that theses computers need to copy files on theses shares with Chronosync or Carbon Copy and this is not working due to an "modify file attributes permissions" error. But if I copy the files using "Finder" it works great.
You don't need to join your computers to your domain to get it to work. The error that you are talking about is the -5000 error ???

  • Home Folder Permissions

I need to move all of my User's Home Folders to another server that will be running Windows Server 2013 R2 Standard.  The reason for this is capacity on the current server is low.
I am trying to understand how permissions work as on the old system and test the folder creation on the new system, if someone wanted to see all the user folders and access them, they can.
I created a g:\Add-Data\Users directory and shared the User directory as User$.  Administrators and SYSTEM have Owner rights under Share and Everyone has full control under Advanced Sharing.  Under Advanced Security Permissions, Administrators
have Full Control, This folder, subfolders and files, Domain Users have List folder/read data and Create Folders / append data permissions to This Folder Only. Creator Owner has Full Control for Subfolders and files only.
Still if I take a domain user and try to map a network drive to \\server\Users$, I am presented with the other user directories, can access them and create in them.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi,
According to your description, do you mean that you want every user in the domain has the ability to access other users’ profiles and modify them?
If so, would you please tell us why do you want to achieve that?
Personally, I would not want this to happen, because every user’s user profile is private. When a domain admin create a user profile for a user, the owner is the user itself by default, even the domain admin doesn’t have
    access permissions.
If you are just trying to find out how permission works, here is the thing:
The owner of a file has the ultimate control over the file, he/she can decide who has access, and what kind of access, to his/her file and who doesn’t. As the domain admin has full control over the domain, he/she can take
ownership on any files in the domain.
In your case, if the owner of one user profile has granted the read access to all the other domain users in the domain, then all domain users can read this user profile. In the meantime, if the owner wants to keep his/her
profile private, and hasn’t given any others read permission, then others can’t read this profile.

  • DFS folder permissions automatically changing in windows 2008 r2

in DFS windows server 2008 r2 folder permissions are changing autometically.can you any one help out

    Hi,
Generally NTFS permission will not be changed so you may need to check if there is any script, schedule or any application which changes the permission.
If there is more than 1 folder target (which means DFS replication is involved), please first check if NTFS permission on both targets are same.
Then you may need to monitor the NTFS permission of which target is changed first (and replicated to the other one). Check if there is any schedule task is running during the time it changes. Also if there is any program running a regular job such as file
    restore, antivirus scanning etc.

  • Help with folder permissions issue

Hello, I'm new to BI and I'm having issues with folder permissions.
Here is what we are trying to do:
We have two folders, lets say Folder A and Folder B. We have two application roles, Role1 and Role2.
Folder A should have full control for Role1, Folder B should not be visible for Role2. Folder B should have full control to Role2, Folder A should not be visible for Role1.
Under permissions for those two folders we have set it up accordingly. For Folder A, Role 1 has "Full Control", Role 2 has "No Access". Folder B, Role 2 has "Full Control", Role 1 has "No Access".
Everything works fine if a user has one or the other role.
But when a user has both the roles, they need to see both the folder but only see 1.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help in advance.

if it's any consolation, seems to happen in the mac version, too. i use manually get album artwork on some new files imported from a CD - i renamed it exactly the same way it is in the itunes store, which previously always worked without fail. now, nothing. just says the requested resource can't be found. so, likely it's a bug.

  • Exchange 2013 - ECP shows wrong public folder permissions

    Hi everybody,
I just migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 SP1 CU7 and we have an issue with the public folder permissions in ECP. ECP doest not show the correct permissions, here an example:
    Get-PublicFolder "\Folder" | Get-PublicFolderClientPermission | ft
    FolderName User AccessRights
    Folder Default {Author}
    Folder Anonymous {None}
    Folder Administrator {Owner}
Thank you very much and best regards,
    Sebastian

    Hi,
Based on your description, the public folder permissions you get using command aren't the same with that you view from EAC.
Please check if you can change the wrong permissions to right in EAC.
If you have multiple public folder mailbox, please move affected public folders to another public folder mailbox and move back to check result.
And if you have multiple DCs, please make sure there is no replication issue between DCs or you can force DC replication and then to check result.
    Best regards,

  • Does SyncToy 2.1 keep file/folder permissions?

Does SyncToy 2.1 keep file/folder permissions?
    Thx,
    J

    Hi Texxxas,
Apparently the problem is not with SyncToy, it is with Task Scheduler. If you have had Task Scheduler work for you in the past, then I don't have an answer for that. I have never been able to get Task Scheduler to work correctly with SyncToy and a NAS drive.
I have found that for some reason it works with USB external HDD's but will not work with a network connected hard drive. The same bug exists in Win8.1 as well. However, I have since found a third party task scheduler that works perfectly with SyncToy and
my NAS drive. It is called System Scheduler by Splinterware. The free version only works when you are logged in but they have a paid version that runs as a service and will execute without being logged in. This has solved my problem.
