CS4: Cannot move a layer within a grouped layer set.

I have created a layer group in Photoshop CS4. When I select a specific layer within this group to try to move it, I immediatley get bumped back to the folder and the entire group moves-- in other words I can't move that specific layer alone (I have to move it back outside the group to move it.) I know that this was not the case in the past and wondered what the problem might be. None of the layers are locked. Thanks for any help.

Top bar, drop down menu: "Auto-Select: Group/Layer". > Choose "Layer"
Voila! you're back to selecting layers again with CTRL + LMB

Is there a way to click just once with "command V" to select a layer within a group?
I used to be able to do it, and on my laptop I can do it now (same OS and Photoshop) but the mac I use for my design work won't do it...I have to also right click and select the layer that is highlighted. I have a many multilayered Photoshop document with lots of groups, and it's an extra time consuming step.
Is there some preference I can turn on? Or some other simple keystroke?

Move tool not working correctly, will not move individual layers only only groups.

Everytime I try to move a layer within a group it moves the entire group OR if it is not in a group it moves every single layer.
The only way this does not happen is if I use the transform tool to move. This stinks for work-flow.
Im not sure if I accidently made a change somewhere OR this is a bug ? Any fixes or suggestions?

In contacts app how can I move a contact from one group to another group?

I find I cannot move a contact from one group to another group. If I delete a contact from one group I delete that contact from my total contact population. I did not have this problem in earlier IOS versions. Can anyone help me?

I will definitely get them all moved over before I delete that account and I've already gone in & changed my preferences. Several years ago, my husband I decided to share one calendar and one contacts list, using his mobile me account and it's been great for us. I'm particularly thrilled to no longer serve as a human rolodex and I guess that I paniced a bit when I thought there might be a problem with our system. I'm still confused where that "On my mac" account came from on the first place. Do you suppose that was an automatic thing that came with the Mountain Lion upgrade?

Move Tool Auto-Select Group/Layer Toggle?

Hi:
I regularly use the Move Tool's Options palette Auto-Select Group functionality. I've not been able to find any reference to a keyboard shortcut for being able to temporarily toggle from auto-selecting Group to Layer. It seems to me that it would be a useful shortcut.
As it is, the user must select "Layer" in the drop-down menu in the Options palette. It would be much quicker if a keyboard shortcut enabled this toggling.
I've noticed thatwhile the Auto-Select option is set to Groupyou can hold the command key and right-click a layer (with the Move cursor) within a group and it will be selected in the Layer panel. At this point, you can move the selected layer using the arrow keys, but not with the Move cursor. It would be really slick if the Move tool cooperated and allowed moving the selected layer.
Is there some shortcut or technique I'm missing that would approximate this functionality?

You f#*kers have to take into consideration all use cases! A lot of people work with auto-select. How can you just change certain functionalities like this!
This wasn't a problem in older CS4/ 5. This has a direct impact on my productivity!
Please fix this **** ASAP! I paid a butt load of money to get CC license so it can help me improve & work more efficiently not to deal with such ****** issues.

Since Last CC Update Photoshop has lost the ability to CTRL click on layer within group??

Weird little glitch is happening since the latest update of CC. Can anyone else confirm that they are having this issue:
1. Create a group with a bunch of different layers
2. Select any tool (besides the direct selection tool)
3. Now press CTRL to try and select a layer and move it within the group.
You will notice that it moves the whole group and not just the selected layer...it does not select the layer. My Direct Selection Tool is set to "Layer" not "group"....so that is not the issue here.
This is annoying...does adobe know about this?

Okay, found the fix.
With the Move tool selected, go to the Options toolbar at the top (below file menu) and change the drop down menu to Layer instead of Group. Voila!

How to transfer (copy/move/paste) group layer to another page or file?

When I try to copy paste, it doesnt paste as a group instead paste as layers, then I have to again group it and name it Why Fireworks doesn't understand that I have copied a set of group layer?

You can share a layer to another page in Fireworks by selecting the layer in the Layers panel, then clicking on the small fly-out menu in the upper-righthand corner of the Layers panel and choosing "Share Layer to Pages". This opens up a two-column dialog, where can select the new page and add it to the right-hand column, "Include layer to page(s)".
As far as moving a layer into another file, you may need to use a Command like "L - Copy to Next Doc" from John Dunning's Frame and Layer Utilities command set:

Cannot move Contacts/Buddies to a different group in Messages

Hi All,
I love the iMessages integration function in Mountain Lion, allows me to have conversations over iMessage easily while I'm at my desktop instead of having to pick up my iPhone everytime someone sends a message to me. I've basically stopped using Adium just for this feature alone and given the Gtalk and YM capability, I really have no need for Adium.
The problem I have is everytime I move a Contact to another group, after a while that contact will revert back to the Buddies Group. Only the contacts that were already grouped prior to my migration to Messages will stay in the groups.
So basically I move those 2 contacts to the Friends group but after a min or so, those 2 contacts would basically move back to the Buddies group. Is there a way to fix this?
I've logged into YM official client as well and those 2 contacts are in the Friends group, both contacts have Gtalk as well.

FIrst of all go the the Messages Menu > Preferences > General Section and Untick the item that is linking your two non iMessages accounts into one Buddy list.
Only your Gmail and the HR Republique... ones are displayed together.
If one is Google talk and one is AIM yu will not be able to move the Buddies to another group (the Group may not belong to the Buddy List the Buddy is in)
I have several Accounts that lead to this (and you can only see some of the title bars)

I have also tried to make sure the "Buddies" which appears in several Buddy List by default have been renamed to show where they come from.
Some Buddy lists do not use Groups normally when I have them separated so they get the strange "Non Group Buddies" buddy group added to the list.
Therefore the people in the "Buddies" group may in fact be a mixture of Google Buddies and Republique Buddies (or rather the Combined List is the two Buddies groups even if those two Buddies only belong to one)
However those Buddies may not belong to the Buddy list that owns th "Friends" group
Lets say the Republique Buddy list is an AIM one
And the Friends Group is Google group.
You can't put AIM Buddies in a Google (Or Jabber ) Buddy list

As I said, separate out the Buddy List and check which Buddies are in which List.

Applying adjustment layer to a group of layers

Is there a method to apply an adjustment layer to a group of layers?
I have a curtain on one layer of a Photoshop CS4 document.
I duplicated the curtain twice and repositioned the copies.
Now I'd like to use an adjustment layer to change the color of my curtains without affecting the rest of the composition (and I can't move the curtains down to the bottom because they need to sit above other elements).
I tried grouping my 3 curtain layers together and then applygin an Adjustment Layer>hue>colorize - but that's affecting the whole composition.
And when the layers are grouped, holding ALT while hovering between the adjustment layer and the group does not bring up the special icon that lets you apply the adjustment just to the layer beneath it.
Would apprecaiate andive on how to apply an adjustment layer to a group of layers.
(I can go back and apply my adjustment to the original curtain then reduplicate and reposition, but would have to repeat that procedure every time change color preference).

Put your layers in a folder, and change the folders blending mode from pass through to normal. You can then put an adjustment layer on the top of the layers in the folder, and it will only affect what is in the folder.

Move all the items of a layer to new page?

is it possible to move all the items in the layer to move to the new page with the same coordinates in the page 1
eg:
i have two layer named "layer_page1"and one more layer named "layer_page2"
i have 2 text frame objects , 1 rectangle objects in the "
layer_page1" and 3 text frame objects, 3 rectangle objects in the "layer_page2"
all the items are in the page.items(0).
now i will add a new page to the document
and i need to move all the items in the layer named "layer_page2" to the new page, i.e page.item(1). is it possible?
if it is possible it will solve lot my efforts typing.. and verifying.

hm, I don't think your untested script will work in a predictable way. Technically it will work a bit. Just tested it. But:
1. if you loop from index 0 to the end, even if you loop from the end to index 0 you will mess the index of the pageItems when moving them to a different page
=> I recommend grouping all pageItems on the specified layer, so that we have to move only one pageItem, the new group
2. problem with move() to another page is, that you cannot retain the original page coordinates of the moved object, it will get 0,0 coordinates automatically
=> we have to store the coordinates of the group first, then move, then apply the old coordinates
3. in a real-world scenario we should deal with the possibility of locked pageItems
4. Furthermore we have to make sure that the layer is not locked
The following example will unlock all pageItems on that layer and will lock them after they are moved:

I cannot move, resize, minimize, or close the browser window despite everything inside the window still working.

I don't know what details are needed so I'll just rattle off anything that I can think of.
I am running an Asus laptop with windows 7. I have never had an issue with firefox in the past (beyond the usual freezing and some obvious issues with pop up ads that are par for the course with firefox since adblocker never does what it says.... not really. Lets be honest.) I am using Avast for my virus protection and it is also up to date.
My issue started about an hour ago when firefox stopped responding. The video I had playing kept going but I could not interact with anything. Assuming the program froze for the billionth time that week I rebooted it. This has always solved freezing issues in the past. Now, however, firefox is doing something new.
I can access the menus and almost everything on the window itself except for the minimize/maximize/close buttons, I cannot move the window at all, and I cannot manually resize it. I have also noticed that although videos will play, I can only click on their buttons if there is another smaller window overtop of firefox. The video controls will only appear that way and when I click them firefox naturally comes to the front and the video responds with the button I used but the buttons are gone again and I cannot resume playing without the smaller window back in front to make the buttons show again.
It's as if half of firefox is frozen while the other half is still running somehow.
I have no themes that could be causing this. Literally none. I only use firefox for the things that can no longer be opened in Opera so I have no need for any theme beyond default. The only addons I installed on purpose were adblockers (lord knows why. they don't DO anything.) though several other random things seem to have been installed over time to aid in one thing or another. Various plugins and players and versions of java, that sort of thing. But I have everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) in the addon menu disabled.
I have tried booting it up in safe mode (the program, not windows) and the problem is still there except now it won't show the menu bar at all unless I press the alt key first and even then it wont let me actually click on anything in the menu bar. When I try the whole bar vanishes. I had to close firefox with the task manager.
Rebooting will fix the issue for about 15 seconds before it all comes back.
Any attempts at updating have failed as it says I am already up to date on everything so I don't know what its issue is.
It's not an urgent issue right now as most of what i need to do can be done on the half screen window I am using, but some of my sites have buttons that literally vanish in anything but full screen and I imagine that this will be a much greater annoyance within a few days.

After following all the instructions given, I poked around safe websites as suggested. I am not sure why this step was needed, as websites functioned rather normally before I came here but I did it anyways and found that the websites still work the same as they did. I can still do everything I used to be able to do. I see no change in the function of the websites.
However, I still cannot resize, close, or move the browser window. I don't know if Netflix is a safe site or not (too many conflicting opinions on that one from the masses) so I don't know if the issue with the vanishing buttons is still there, but all the issues I had with the browser window itself is still there.
Even in safe mode the browsers three window control buttons on the top right refuse to let me use them and the window itself will refuse to be moved around.

Cannot move the pages from one document to another

Hi,
I cannot move the pages from one document to another, abobe gets crashed. I am not sure but I think this was happening when I try to copy or move the threaded content. How to resolve this, this is happening in both CS4 and CS5. Can anyone help me?

1. Open two documents, for ex doc1 and doc2, doc1 contais 4 pages, doc2 contains 2 pages
2. Using Move Pages from the Pages panel menu in doc1, moving 1st two pages to doc2
Move Pages : 1-2
Destination : After page 1
Move to : doc2
Actually I was not able to copy the textframe which is linked with another, immediately it crashes.

Grouping Adjustment layer with Gradient Fill layer

Page 151 of "The Missing Manual" suggests that one should be able to group a Levels Adjustment layer with a Gradient Fill layer so that the levels adjustment fades out to one side.
If I understand this correctly, the setup would be:
Levels Adjustment Layer (grouped with layer below)
Gradient Fill layer (with a gradient from Opaque to Transparent)
Photo in Background layer
but I cannot get the desired effect of original picture on one side blending through to adjusted levels on the other.
I can get the desired effect if I dispense with the Gradient Fill layer and simply manually create the gradient on the mask of the Levels Adjustment layer but this loses the advantage of easy adjustment of the gradient.

1 - The background image.
2 - I created a Gradient Fill layer using color (red) to transparent.
3 - I created a Levels Adjustment layer, set to reduce red and green,
leaving a blue image.
4 - I grouped the Levels Adjustment layer with the Gradient Fill layer.
Is this the type of result you are seeing? I wonder what is the logic.

Recently, I upgraded outlook from 2007 to 2010, but I got a problem that I cannot move any mails to personal folder and the error msg is "Cannot move the items. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation.".Even I create a new personal
folder in 2010 and try to move mails to it, I still get that error message.
Can anyone help me out please?

I've experienced the same thing and was unable to find this key that Tony mentioned. After searching numerous sites, i found this instruction set below and tried it and it worked. Per my case, the key PstDisableGrow was set to 1 under ...\Software\Polices\...
instead. I disabled it and bam, it worked. Give this a try...
