CS4 cannot parse .png files
I just installed Photoshop cs4 on my new laptop, a Lenovo Y510p, and it refuses to open any and all .png files. The files themselves are not corrupt, because they'll open everywhere else, including Adobe Fireworks, but they will not open in photoshop. I checked to make sure the png plugin was present, and it is, and I tried to resave images in fireworks and in paint as png files and they still will not open in PS. I even tried creating a new png file in PS and once I close it photoshop will not open it again. So does anyone know how to fix this?
I read on other forums that sometimes anti-virus programs can interfere, does anyone know if Windows Defender does? Also, I read there's a posibility that the png plugin is corrupted, or it may not have installed correctly, but I cannot find anywhere to download the plugin to try and correct it if that's the case.
Never seen that. I usually have to set PS as the default for opening PNGs after a fresh install, but I've never seen PS unable to open PNGs.

CS4 - Getting error when opening a .gif file - file-format module cannot parse the file.
I am getting this popup error when trying to open a .gif file:
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
This comes up every time I try to open a .gif file. Even if I make a .gif file (like the image included in this post), save it and then try to open it again, I get the same error. I tried reinstalling CS4, but the error is still there. I have also done the reset on start-up and nothing. Some have suggested that I open it in (Windows XP Pro) MS Paint and then save it again. Did it and this does NOT work for me, either.
I know it's a Photoshop problem because I can see this file everywhere, except Photoshop. It will open here, there and everywhere, except for Photoshop.
I've searched the Adobe Commmunity and it looks like no one has come up with a fix for this. I'm just currious after 5 years with this problem, has there been a solution?

I am runing Vista Ultimate 64 bit with SP1 and whenever I use CS4 to read a .gif file Photoshop reports "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file". I have un-installed CS4 and then re-installed again but I still get the same message. Can anyone please tell me what this means and perhaps help me to resolve the problem?

Then you should be able to take a screen shot with Alt Print Screen, and then open the image in PS, and then crop to size. Use Save for Web to get the most compatible GIF format. -

What does the error message: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file." mean? I made the png image in PS. Now it can't parse it, but I don't know what that means or how to correct it.

I volunteer my time too. I help others learn about Adobe software. I am not "trained" in this, but learn as I go. I have never had the warning I wrote about and that is why I posted. I thought as much, but posted anyway to be sure that I wasn't missing some clue. I deal with a large number of applications and all levels of members. It may be easy to be glib, but the hours I spend helping others is as valid as yours. I may not have points, but that is because I don't 'know' all I feel I should to answer. Hello all,
I have been having this problem all year. Sometimes, not always, I cannot bring a png file into my cs3. It tells me that the file format module cannot parse the file. I can't even find info on what this means, let alone how to fix it.
It is usually a file larger than 1 mb.
Created in cs3, by me.
Completely graphics.
No photos.
Not dowloaded from any browser or site.
Sometimes I can bring the file in IF I close all other files I am working on in CS3. Sometimes it never works.
My external hard drive that I save these files on is a terabyte and by no means anywhere near even 5% full. My computer has 4gb of memory and 250gb hard drive. Before I started to use the terabyte I had the same problem. It is not the terabyte hard drive.
I am the first to admit I am not computer savy, but I have been working with PS CS3 for 9 months, 10+ hours a day and cannot solve this problem.
My husband is an application developer and cannot figure out the solution either.
I have been forced to save smaller files just so I can open them in CS3 to continue editing them.
It is extremely frustrating and I have not found ANY help at all online or in PS help.
I don't understand what I am doing wrong, or what is wrong with the program.
If you have ANY suggestions please post them.

Irrational AndiOops, just noticed that these are PNG's FROM PS. I was trying to beat the scheduled shutdown of the fora and missed that.
The only thing even close to this has been with saving .PSD's from PS without the Compatibility, and then InDesign and AI not being able to "parse the file." That should not happen, but it has to the point that I now have the Compatibility Mode set to default for me.

Tried to "Open As" in PS a NEF file I modified in LR. Got the following error message: "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse the file." I can "Open" the file in PS, but then the changes I made in LR (and saved in the associated meta data file with the "Control S" command) are not applied to the opened PS file. HELP!
If you are working with a file you modified in Lightroom, you should go to the Lightroom Photo menu and choose Edit in... and the version of Photoshop you want to open it in.
There a dialog will ask if you want to transfer the LR settings you made to your photo when you open in Photoshop.

Unable to open any of the HiRISE images within PS CS6. Receive the following error: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
The files are NOT corrupt as I can open them in IrfanView and ACDSee, just not Photoshop CS6.

GTX970 4GB RAMI downloaded a small HiRise JP2 and used Preview to export as Tiff. It opens up just fine.
Apparently the JP2 takes up an awful lot of memory uncompressing, and Photoshop gives up.

I also got the same error on the file in Message one, so saving it as a tiff would work.

I have added PayPal setting in web.config file and I can access paypay from my local.
I have copied that setting into web.debug.config and web.release.config but I can't access and I got the error from server.

</paypal>You can't add arbitrary application configuration to web.config, as that is used by Web API. Instead, add a configuration setting in the "app settings" section of the Configure tab in the portal.

PS CC: Camera Raw filter gives "cannot parse your files" error

I can open files fine in Photoshop CC, but if I try to use the Camera Raw filter, I get the "file format module cannot parse your files" error. This only happens with larger TIFFs, say 300 MB or so - 70 MB files work fine. I have a fast machine running Windows 7 with 12GB of RAM, so I would expect to have enough space, but maybe it isn't configured properly in PS preferences?

300MB Tiff seems like a large files size for a Tiff which leads me to believe its a layered Tiff. ACR does not have Layers support try opening the Tiff file in Photoshop not through ACR to see it there are layers. If there are target all of them and convert to a smart Object then try ACR as a filter. A smart object is a single layer in Photoshop. -

Hi,
I understand Photoshop CS3 can open Illustrator .ai files.
When inside Photoshop, file/open, select .ai file, I get the following message:
"Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file"
This presents a huge problem because I have original artwork I need to send to the printers, but cannot get into it! It was created by another company on our behalf.
I have downloaded and installed the Camera RAW 4.5 update and it hasn't helped, the error still occurs.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

SallyIf the Illustrator file is correctly saved you can "Place" it in Photoshop. It will appear as a Smart Object.

Cannot place smart object because the parser module cannot parse the file
Some of my images are saved in Ai for use in my Adobe Ps, but a few of them now give me an error when I try to replace
a smart object with a saved image from Ai. I get an error message instead that says "cannot place smart object because the
parser module cannot parse the file", I have no idea what this means or why it only happens to some images and not all.
I save everything in the same format and load it into the smart object the same way but some do not work. If anyone
knows the solution please help me!!

I am using PS CS3 Extended on a PC
I keep getting the error...file-format module cannot not parse the file" errors when attempting to open PNG or GIF files that were created using the same version of Photoshop.
I used to have to reboot the machine to get rid of this error - but that is no longer working.
The error is occuring more and more frequently.
I really need to edit these files.
Please tell me how to fix this.
I have seen this error in the forum - but was unable to find a real solution. Rebooting the machine is not really a solution.

JDThanks for trying Chris but the files are not corrupted. They open sometimes in CS4, and always do in CS3 and Elements 6, as well as on another computer. I'm talking about all my PNG files. They work most of the time, just not all of the time. If I close down PS CS4 and open it again they open just fine for a while before the problem starts again.
I reset all preferences to factory defaults and uninstalled/ re-installed again this morning so now I'll see what happens.

I want to embed mp3 files in my web pages. I go to Insert/Media/Plugin and select an mp3 files from the box that appears. The placeholder for the player appears on the appropriate spot on the page. I highlight the placeholder and click on the Play button in property inspector. An error message then appears saying "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the Configurations/Plugin folder and the plugin folder for each of your installed browsers". The Config/Plugin folder contains NPSWF32.dll and UnsupportedPlugins.txt (contains npdsplay.dll nppdf.dll). Also when I go to Live view there is a blank space where the player should be. I do not have any problems playing mp3 files with WMP, Real audio or Quicktime which are all installed on my computer.
What must I do?

I have recently upgraded to PS CS5, operating on an imac with Mac OSX Lion.
Every now and then I get the message above when trying to open certain Raw (CR2) files in photoshop Raw converter.
If I try to only open the one specific raw file I get the above message, although if I open multiple raw files in one go, they all open fine, although when I scroll down to the image that can't be parsed I either get this mesage "Unable to swith to the current image. There was an error parsing the file" or photoshop freezes totally.
As far as I can see the images aren't corrupted becasue I'm able to view them with Bridge. I have never encounter this problem with my equipment before upgrading.
Does anyone have a solution?

cabsIf an image has issues each time you try to open it in Camera RAW, then post a link so others can verify if it is indeed corrupted.
