CS4 Cannot place PSD files in Yosomite

Like a LOT of other users, I am working using CS4, a great package and I have always been happy with it and very stable,
and I do not want to update to CS6 as cost is an issue.
Please can anyone answer the question of how to fix the problem of not being able to place psd files in Illustrator as this is causing me
no end of problems with my work.

Why don't you look into subscribing to Adobe's Creative Cloud? Much less expensive, in the long run, than simply buying a CS6 suite any longer. I had a CS6 suite and, for the first year, only paid $30 a month for a subscription to CC but now I'm paying $50 a month. I still find that price cheaper than purchasing software that will lack the features of the 'newest' products.
No problem placing PSD files into Illustrator dose with the CC versions!

Upgraded to Yosemite now I cannot open PSD files on illustrator. Please help

I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac and now when I open Illustrator I cannot open psd files. The error message I get when I open illustrator is "Error Loading Plugins. PhotoshopImport.aip"
Is there a fix for this? I cannot afford to upgrade my CS4 at this time.

Thanks Larry - the issue is that I need to keep all of the layers (there are a lot of them) and when I save as pdf it flattens the image. Is there no way to be able to open PSD files now that I upgraded to Yosemite?

Using PM 6.5 in Classic mode on Mac (OS 10.4.11). I have an existing pagemaker document that contains an EPS file that I need to change. When I try to update link to new EPS file or place it, I get the "cannot place this file" message. I am creating EPS in Illustrator 6.0 (also in Classic mode.) I have tried to place EPS file in a new Pagemaker document and get the same message. This used to work. I would really appreciate any help.

I seem to recall that PageMaker wasn't a good friend of EPS files, but I could be wrong after so many years not using it. I would try with TIFFs, just in case.

Cannot open psd file in Illustrator

One of my users is getting one of two errors when she tries to open a psd in Illustratror CS5. One error say "Cannot open the illustration", the other error says "The file filename.psd is in an uknown format and cannot be opened." Furthermore, she is unable to use the "Place" function in Illustrator. This appears to be profile specific. When I log on to her machine as myself. I am able to open all *.psd files. She claims that everything was working fine a week ago. No changes have been made to the system.

I would say it is a permissions problem.
Obviously Illustrator cannot access the file so it does not know what you want it to do.
Try repairing the permissions, make certain she has not locked the files on her account
and try this as well but only in her account.
Mac
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
PC
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/
(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
But her permissions have to be repaired if it can't be done by the utility then manually

Why can't Illustrator CS6/CC place PSD files properly?

I have been using Adobe products for over 15 years and one of the main features I use is placing PSD files within Illustrator and then creating my text so that is remains vector. Being a recent Creative Cloud Team member and seeing that both CS6 and CC do not allow a user to place a PSD inside of Illustrator without drastically reducing the image baffles me!!!
For example create a 500x500 pixel 300dpi document in Photoshop and save as PSD. Then open Illustrator and create a document the EXACT SAME SIZE. Go to file place and try to place the PSD you just created. Notice that it will not place at the correct size???
I don't see how this big of an oversight can be overlooked. I have also noticed that when using the PANTONE Solid Color palette within Illustrators Color Books, with persistence turned on also still does not work. This has been a problem I have noticed for over 5 years!!! Even with workspaces saved this problem persist to this day.
I am on a BRAND NEW iMac out of the box so it is not a computer or user issue.
Can someone please help me with a solution to the above issues. As a Creative Director for a marketing and advertising agency I don't see how these two issues have not perplexed others as they both are part of my day to day work flow and are now hendering how I perform my daily job as a designer.
Any solutions or tips or tricks to eliminate the above mentioned issues are greatly appreciated.

you are correct by stating that the file will open, but if you go to document setup and then go to edit art boards you can see that the image size is actually much smaller than the original that you created. this is a major bug as i create a lot of my dynamic backgrounds in photoshop and then place them in illustrator to do my typography. i have been using photoshop and illustrator for over 15 years so i can not see them deleting this feature or overlooking the fact that it does not work, but then again who knows!!! they did in fact delete the AOM from Bridge which was the one main feature that i used and loved about the program. for products with this price range i can not see why they would delete such a vital feature to the program.
again just looking for a solution and i appreciate your quick response to this. hopefully we will start something that adobe will actually see and help us out with. it has slowed my production within the programs down to a sluggish crawl

Cannot view .psd files in Preview since upgrading to Leopard

Last week I upgraded my iBook G4 to Leopard 10.5.6. I've noticed that since the upgrade, I can no longer view any .psd files in Preview. I could do this with Tiger, but in Leopard all I get is a question mark symbol instead of an image.
I deleted the plist, but that didn't work.
Any suggestions? When I need to print something out quickly, Preview loads much more quickly than Photoshop CS 2.

I ended up solving the problem by using Graphic Converter to open the files and then using 'Save As' in the exact same format. Once I did that, the files opened up as normal again.
Still not sure why it happened in the first place, but I'm glad that things worked out.

DW CS4 cannot embed mp3 files

I want to embed mp3 files in my web pages. I go to Insert/Media/Plugin and select an mp3 files from the box that appears. The placeholder for the player appears on the appropriate spot on the page. I highlight the placeholder and click on the Play button in property inspector. An error message then appears saying "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the Configurations/Plugin folder and the plugin folder for each of your installed browsers". The Config/Plugin folder contains NPSWF32.dll and UnsupportedPlugins.txt (contains npdsplay.dll nppdf.dll). Also when I go to Live view there is a blank space where the player should be. I do not have any problems playing mp3 files with WMP, Real audio or Quicktime which are all installed on my computer.
What must I do?

Photoshop CC 2014 Cannot open .psd file because it's not a "photoshop document"

Right, straight to the case,
I was working on a very important file at work. I kept saving it at .psd (photoshop), then I also saved it as .esp and .pdf, just to be able to open then in AI.
Anyhow, after some saving, I had the .psd file ready and done so I closed it. Wen't to open it later to find out the it's not a photoshop document.
I've tried to repair it but even the repair apps can't read it. I'm 100% sure i saved it as .psd
Does anyone have a clue here of what could of have happen to it?

The file is nearly 300MB large.. so there must be something in it? any help would be MUCH appreciated

My first thought is retrieving a backup copy via Time Machine if you set that up.
Krita is a free app that I have seen open Photoshop files that even Photoshop could not open. There you may find the problem layer or flatten it.

Why can't I place .psd files in Illustrator?

I will do my best to outline the situation. I am not very tech savvy and need some advice. Recently my motherboard crashed on my previous computer. I currently work for a nonprofit and but do quite a bit of graphic design. We have a tight deadline on a number of items, so my boss went and bought me a computer a soon as possible. She bought the best pc she could find. Since I am a mac person I do not have much understanding about pc(s). I reinstalled CS3 on the computer. I am currently working on 16 separate signs that are 36"x36". I did not have any issues working with placed images on my home computer or my previous computer. All the .psd images are not showing up and say the link needs to be repaired or replaced. I do that and the same window comes up again saying the image needs to be repaired or replaced. When I try to start over and place them in a new document, absolutely nothing happens. However, when I change the images to .jpg I can place them. Also, when I try to print these rather large signs with the placed .jpg, I get this: Not enough memory. The object was to complex. Reducing the size of this document window may help. Here is the specs of my system:

You are using a 64-bit Windows operating system, and this is a well-known issue.

Cannot open psd file

Yesterday I was working in photoshop cs6 on a Psd file. It was 140 mb and when I tried to save it at 93 % it crashed. When I'm now trying to open it says "There was a problem reading the layer data. Read the composite data instead?" I click Read composite data but then it says "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." And after pressing ok it doesn't do anything?

The file is corrupt on disk because of the crash.
Odds are that you won't be able to recover that file, but should go to your backups or the auto-saved version.

Cannot place eps file "no filter found for requested operation"

I have two compuers running CS3. One computer can place .eps files into an InDesign document with no problem. The other computer tries to place an .eps file into InDesign and they get "no filter found for requested operation." It is able to place .jpegs, pdfs but not .eps. In the meantime, I opened the .eps in Illustrator and saved it as a .tiff and then placed it into the InDesign document successfully but this is NOT a good solution as I have hundreds of .eps files I need to work with.
How can I get this resolved?

Try deleting preferences as outlined here. You might have to go so far as to reinstall InDesign, but I hope not.
Also, AI is a much better format for placing Illustrator files than TIF or even EPS.

CS4 cannot parse .png files

I just installed Photoshop cs4 on my new laptop, a Lenovo Y510p, and it refuses to open any and all .png files. The files themselves are not corrupt, because they'll open everywhere else, including Adobe Fireworks, but they will not open in photoshop. I checked to make sure the png plugin was present, and it is, and I tried to resave images in fireworks and in paint as png files and they still will not open in PS. I even tried creating a new png file in PS and once I close it photoshop will not open it again. So does anyone know how to fix this?
I read on other forums that sometimes anti-virus programs can interfere, does anyone know if Windows Defender does? Also, I read there's a posibility that the png plugin is corrupted, or it may not have installed correctly, but I cannot find anywhere to download the plugin to try and correct it if that's the case.

Never seen that. I usually have to set PS as the default for opening PNGs after a fresh install, but I've never seen PS unable to open PNGs.

Happens with a certain .psd - open .psd in Photoshop and resave over the same file. Can flush out corruption.
Happens with all .psds - update illustrator (eg:. 16.0 to 16.04) reset your illustrator preferences.

Saw earlier postings on this but not quite the same situation and/or the solutions didn't work. Using InDesign CS 6. Trying to place many JPEG files. First one placed. After that, stopped working. Trying closing out of InDesign and restarting. Checked show options. Couldn't import into Illustrator. Tried copy and paste. Please help! Deadline approaching.

No, they don't open in Photoshop - but I did try renaming the file name - not the extension but the filename itself as it was very long, including location, date and number. Although cumbersome for the number of files I have, this seemed to do the trick. Thank you!!!
