CS4 Circular Text

I was playing around trying to get my text to go in a circle and I when I was using the pen tool to add points it drew four lines around my circle shape.
Now I am trying to replicate that and I am not having any luck. I've tried using the freeform pen with magnetic turned on but it doesn't give me near as good a result.

If I get what you are asking, the way I do it is:
Go to you Paths palette
Create a new path
Use you ellispe tool to create the circle you want
Then grab your text tool, Be selective on the type tool option to get the text to shape the way you want.
Click on to the path and start typing, it should type on the path. (Or you can copy and paste the type to the path whatever works)
Tip: Not all typefaces work well with this technique some really kern rather poorly, so be open to changing your typeface if you experience real weird kerning issues.
Hope this helps

  • Trying to accurately revolve a circular text path 360 degrees! Pls help!

    Hi,
    I'm new to AE so this maybe very stupid, but I have created a circular text path so that may text revolves around the edge of a 2D circle, but I want to rotate it from where it begins from to end up in exactly the same place. Trouble is, I seem to have to use margins to get it to run all the way around the circle, as the rotate option means the whole circle revolves around my anchor point - which is not central in my screen and I can't seem to get it so. Trying to move the anchor point just moves my circle further out and not the anchor point. It's driving me potty, but I'm not sure how many margins = a 360 rotate?! If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Many thanks,
    Rebecca

    I'm not sure I am following you . If you use a circular mask as your text path and animate the first margin the text will spin around the circle like the circle was a wheel. That seems to be what you want to do. If you want to rotate the layer then the anchor point and the center of the path must be in the same spot. You can get there using guides or snapping. If simply animating the first margin does not get you what you want then please explain further and send us a screenshot.

  • How do I add circular text to an image?

    I have successfully cropped/masked a circular image, and now need to add circular text around it. How do I accomplish that?

    Christine,
    Basically, you create a circle, then use the Path Type Tool (ClickHold the Type Tool to get to it) and click with it on the circle where you want the typing to start, then start typing.
    You may create the circle independently and place it, or you may open the Group in the Layers palette, then click the Clipping Mask, then Object>Path>Offset Path by the distance you want between the mask and the circle, then drag the new circle up so it gets out of the group.
    You may wish to use the Paragraph palette (which is with the Character palette) to select Align Center and to click the topmost Anchor Point of the circle to have the type symmetrical from the top.
    You may adjust the Type relative to its circle, and thereby its distance from the mask by changing the Baseline Shift (down is negative); it is in the Character Options. You may need to tick Show Options in the flyout.

  • Text knockout CS4 - white text on black urgent

    I am having problems with some white text (converted to paths) which is placed on a black background.. When viewing the pdf in Illustrator (CS4), the text shows up fine. When viewing in Acrobat (which the printers will print from), the white text has disappeared. This only applies to some of the text  the rest is fine.  I need to set the white text not to overprint, but in the attributes box it isnt giving me the option to uncheck 'overprint'. Its grayed out. Where can I do this?
    many thanks!

    I don't think that's case, Peter. It looks the OP violated Dov Isaacs' first rule of PDF: Thou shalt not utilize Illustrator as a general purpose PDF editor.
    The text, if I'm right was converted in ID.
    If I'm wrong...well, nevermind.

  • In Design CS4 drops text when opening

    We have an issue involving opening pre existing ID files doesn’t matter which version they were created in,  and when they are opened and you are prompted to find fonts and you replace them with our fonts, which by the way are the Adobe OTF Master Collection, text drops randomly throughout the file. The actual text box is still there but it is empty. We have this issue with customer submitted files also. For example, if the file was created in ID CS2 and you open it in its native version it is fine, same thing with files created in CS3, but when you try it in CS4 you run the risk of losing text. Even after you replace the text that is missing, the next time you open that file if it happens to be on another machine you run the risk of dropping text again. Even when you open it on the original machine there is a chance of dropping text. PLEASE HELP!

    Well you are not the only, we have tried so many different things, I have
    Adobe looking into also and have not heard anything yet.

  • CS4 Linking Text Boxes Together in Anchored Objects?

    Hi. Using InDesign CS4 I have a Anchored Object that I would like to link part of it to the next one in the text frame. Example: I have grouped together a text box, a box with a placed UPC from Illustrator and another text box stacked on top of each other, all lined up. I group this and place it in a text box so I can set these at different places along a 29" document. When I have overset text, in the top box for example, I see the + sign but can't grab it to try to link the text to the next text box in the Anchored or grouped object. All I can do it change the size of the box - even when holding down the command key on the Mac with the text too enabled. I am setting it up this way so all three boxes stay together when positioning on pages. I have multiple rows of these so it makes it easier to modify. If I take the grouped set out of the text box so it's by itself I can grab the overset text. I am trying to link text boxes so it's easier and faster to flow in text from another program. Thanks.
    Pat

    OK, I will try to get the whole page later. I want to keep what you see in the screen shot - one of the grouped objects - together as it goes across the page. So the 9232554 text and all bellow that would stay grouped together when I tab it over to line up to a certain spot on the page. This is placed in a text box that runs horizonal on the page, about 28"  across. I also wanted to link the 9232554 box to the 9232729 box which is just a duplicate of the group of text and UPC code before it. But from what you say, and what I tried to do, I can't. Even when all the anchored object groups are in the same long text thread. I tried not grouping  each section - the UPC code sandwiched by the text boxes, but could not place them in the long text box when not grouped togther.
    I wanted to flow in the text to all 14 of these grouped or anchored objects, say all top boxes, in one 'paste' instead of doing each one at a time but keeping the 3 elements you see togther at all times.

  • CS4 Created Text Grainy When Converted to Adobe Acrobat Pro

    This is a beginner's question. In Photoshop CS4 I'm creating what I believe to be relatively high resolution text, 4000 pixels/inch. One of the fonts is not commonly installed on user PCs so I have to rasterize the text. I want the background to be transparent so I apparently have to save as a PNG image. I'm inserting this image into a PowerPoint slide then creating a PDF of this slide using Adobe Pro 9.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    AJ

    First of all, I have to eliminate printing to PDF, because it doesn't
    preserve my bookmarks, and that is not acceptible.
    I have disabled the Adobe COM plugin for Word 2007 and used Microsoft's
    built-in Save As PDF functionality, which results in the form data
    disappearing. I have enabled the Adobe COM plugin for Word 2007, and did a
    Save As Adobe PDF resulting in the same problem. I opened Adobe and created
    a PDF from the Word 2007 document, and the same issue occurs.

  • CS4: exporting text

    For CS3 I had a script that exported text from frames I'd put a scriptlabel on. The default CS4 text export function nor the text export sample script that comes with CS4 don't do the trick. Does anyone know if there is a similar script for CS4 available somewhere? Or maybe someone knows how to alter this one? I get an error with the file path...
    set allText to {}
    set oldTids to AppleScript's text item delimiters
    on changetid(x)
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to x
    end changetid
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
    my changetid("")
    set filePath to file path of document 1
    set docname to (name of front document & ".txt")
    try
    tell application "Finder"
    make new file at filePath with properties {name:docname}
    end tell
    end try
    set newName to (filePath & docname) as string as alias
    set theNumber to (text returned of (display dialog "How many stories do you want to export" default answer "3"))
    set theNumber to theNumber as integer
    repeat with ii from 1 to theNumber
    set y to (parent story of every text frame of document 1 whose label is ii as string)
    set x to (get text of y)
    set end of allText to (x & return & return)
    end repeat
    set allText to every item of allText as text
    set writeOut to open for access newName with write permission
    write allText to writeOut
    close access writeOut
    my changetid(oldTids)
    end tell

    Aaaaaaah, I already figured out what went wrong... I had opened CS3 documents and tried to export the text before I had saved the documents as CS4... As soon as I saved them as CS4, I could export the text...

  • Annotated Images in CS4 Allowing Text Flow

    For those who might have followed the discussion this week about creating images with callouts (annotated images), I have a second solution. The first one showed the ease of accomplishing this challenge by finally using a separate text frame to place the image, thereby not allowing automatic text reflow. The second solution described here allows text reflow.
    First, and Peter G.. will like this, I do now understand how to create a Topic Title paragraph style using settings for Paragraph Rules instead of using a one-cell table. Cool, Peter! A caveat here: I actually created two versions of this paragraph style: first one as a bit of space below it for next style, Body Text, or whatever style my template users might need, e.g., List Bullet; second version jumps 5 inches for space below to accomate space for annotated image.
    To create the annotated image, I still had to do so on "blank space,"-- grabbed the bottom of the text frame that covers the entire page and moved it up below my Topic Heading. Created the annotated image in the same way as discussed previously (left it with no defined object style, except for callouts, grouped all elements and locked it down).
    However, this time after grouping all the elements (callouts, lines, image), I cut it to clipboard, dragged the text frame for the page back down to the bottom, inserted cursor (Text tool) at tag following Topic Heading and pasted image in. Then I went to the Anchored Objects Options dialog box and made a few changes. (I have a screen shot of that if anyone wants it.) After moving the annotated image to best spot, created a new object style, including changes in the Stroke and Stroke & Corner Options categories. You have to do that otherwise after applying new object style, you'll lose your strokes that attach the callouts to the image.
    Finally, was able to pick up and type the remaining text (a set of indented list bullets) below the annotated image. While this second method takes more time, I will be insisting that my team learn both methods so they can choose the correct solution for the particular documentation that they are developing.
    If curious, here's what the final page that allows text reflow looks like:
    Enjoy!

    PS Where again do we put requests for changes to ID? Honestly, I think that with all the keyboard shortcuts available, we should have one for inserting an anchored object. Now you have to select Object>Anchored Object>Insert, and then go through all the adjustments.

    Nope, the area of where I click makes no difference.
    I think there is either a bug in CS4 or I have a preference not set correctly in CS4.
    I recorded my screen to illustrate what's going on in CS3 vs. CS4.
    This video illustrates the process in CS3:
    http://www.atundra.com/TEST/CS3/index.html
    You'll see that it flows text into my master text boxes as its supposed to do. (Well almost, you can see CS3 bug that someone mentioned about having a random text box created. This has never been a problem, as you just delete that box and everything reflows into the other boxes)
    Here is the video of me doing the exact same thing in CS4.
    http://www.atundra.com/TEST/CS4/index.html
    You can see clearly that CS4 is generating new text boxes on its own and not using my text box set up on the master page.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    This is very frustrating.

  • PROBLEM. Inserting Index topic in CS4 causes text to shift; it shouldn't certainly?

    I have a document created in CS3 and if I open it in CS4 and insert an index entry at a point in a paragraph, the text actually flows and does not remain unchanged, as it should have. It never did this in CS3. The paragraph in question was set to -10 on the AV tracking.

    > How is one to maintain long book projects across upgrades without the text
    > changing?
    You're best off finishing a book in the version it started in. Start new
    books in the new version. This was true going from CS2 to CS3 as well
    (and probably in previous upgrades too).
    I know it feels like a PITA, but Adobe actually made some important
    changes in H&J going from CS3 to CS4. If they had to maintain your text
    wrap forever, they would never be able to fix the problems.

  • CS4 Dynamic text box crash!!!

    Files created in CS 3 that have a dynamic text box crash
    Flash. I've tried over 20 different files. Any ideas how to get
    around this? Do I or can I re-install CS 3 just to work on these
    files? Any ideas...

    It appears I have fixed this. I have also called and notified
    support about the results of my findings.
    When using a font on your system that is corrupt Flash
    doesn't ignore it, like it did with CS3. It actually will make
    Flash act the way it did for me. What it was doing was, when any
    text box was clicked on or a movie clip with a font inside was
    pressed, Flash crashed. If you created new text you couldn't select
    anywhere on the stage and it leave the text properties info.
    After about 20 hours working on this and trying various types
    of installs I figured out it must be a font problem because it only
    happend with text boxes. Going down to just system fonts the
    problem did not exist.
    It was actually happening on a CS3 file I had created
    previously.
    After using just system fonts I was able to open the file and
    click on text fields. I slowly began adding fonts again and found
    the coulprit. It was a font from a client converted from a mac font
    to a pc font. My font manager software refferred to it as "Open
    Type TT". The extension of the file was .ttf. After deleting these
    two files everything worked fine.
    They files have been in this client folder and have been used
    for over a year. So CS3 would ignore them and not give you any
    problems where CS4 will crash.

  • Illustrator CS4 3D text saving problem !! HELP!!

    Hi,
    I am creating 3D text in illustrator but when I go to save it as an EPS it saves with lines all over the text, I'm wondering why its doing this !!
    Any ideas?
    Evan

    EPS is a flat file format. When you save as EPS you are flattening the artwork.
    You may want to look at the Flattener Preview Panel and possibly expand artwork and adjsut it before saving as EPS.

  • CS4 - Page text not appearing for editing

    I've opened our web site, moved to the page needing editing.  No words appear and it simply takes me back to our home page.  This is my first experience with new software.

    Hi,
    - in your query check that you display 0FISCPER with key and text.
    - ensure that 0FISCPER text table is filled: SE11 table T009C. If not right click on your source system R3 and transfer global settings / fiscal year variants.
    hope this helps...

  • CS3,CS4,CS5 - Text Color

    Hi,
    I am trying to dynamically change text color.
    My text boss is defined as:
    Class
    kColorStaticTextBoss,
    kStaticTextWidgetBoss,
    IID_IUICOLORSPEC, kUIColorSpecImpl,
    and type:
    type ColorStaticTextWidget (kViewRsrcType) : StaticTextWidget (ClassID = kColorStaticTextBoss)
         UIColorSpec;
    To change the text color I obtain a pointer to the implementation of IUIColorSpec. Calling SetTextColorID on the object works fine using the predefined color scheme, however I need RGB values and SetTextColorAGM silently fails. I really hope someone can help on this one
    Thanks
    Kind regards Toke

    I found that the following worked:
    Provide my own implementation of IID_ICONTROLVIEW.
    Have my implementation class inherit from CStaticTextView.
    Override CStaticTextView::GetTextColor().

  • [CS4, JS] Text frame geometricBounds undefined

    Hello,
    I'm searching through all the paragraphs in a document for paragraphs with a particular paragraph style. When it's found, the script takes the geometric bounds of the parent text frame and uses them later. However, it doesn't work in some documents because the geometric bounds of text frames are undefined and cause an error. The error causing documents were originally PageMaker documents than have been opened through InDesign as saved as .indd. Documents created in InDesign run the script fine.
    Anyway, here's the part of the script that's causing problems (I've tried iterating backwards and forwards, but to no avail):
    myDocStories = app.activeDocument.stories
    for (var i = myDocStories.length - 1; i >= 0; i--){
    for (var j = myDocStories[i].paragraphs.length - 1; i >= 0; i--){
    // Check each paragraph in active document for the chosen find paragraph or object style
    if(myDocStories[i].paragraphs[j].appliedParagraphStyle.name == myFindParVal){
    var myBounds = "";
    myBounds = myDocStories[i].paragraphs[j].parentTextFrames[0].geometricBounds;
    The weird thing is, if I select a paragraph that's found by the script and run app.selection[0].parentTextFrames[0].geometricBounds in the console...it tells me the bounds of the text frame.
    I have literally no idea why it's doing this, but I suspect it's something to do with the fact that they used to be PageMaker files...

    You are brilliant. A quick rejig of when the bounds are taken and it's fine again.
    Thanks!
