CS4 codec troubles...

Hi all
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me here...
Been editing for many years now and never encountered this problem before and need to find a solution to it...
Recently completed a live video edit for a band and ran off data files (avi and wmv) and DVDs for them, same as I do for everyone I make videos for.
They got the files and reported the following - the avi files played out of synch on one angle in particular, the wmv files played out of synch on another angle and the DVDs played out of synch on a mix of the previous two angles. The audio is all in synch on the edit - I have spent a long time checking it over and over (doesn't help that the live vocal was re-recorded and in some places doesnt quite match up with the delivery on the night!).
The guitarist from the band showed everything to a PC literate friend who said it was due to a codec problem...
Everything plays ok at my end and was done in standard windows avi using DV Pal codec (off a Matrox version of CS4) and the wmv files converted off of that.
Some shots in the video were shot on an HDD Camera and converted into avi for use alongside the Z1 shot and captured avi footage (at standard def) - this shouldnt cause a problem should it?
Does anyone have any idea on what can be done to essentially standardize these files for them?
I have never had this problem before - has anyone else?
Thanks
Geoff

Hi Hunt
Thanks for your reply.
I wasn't aware of the new Matrox drivers but have now downloaded them.
I haven't yet redone these files for the person I was talking about, since I got the new Matrox drivers but I really hope doing so will fix this.
If not...I'm totally lost here so any further advice would be great!
Thanks
Geoff

  • Premier CS4 - codec problem?

I have a DVD-R with several .avi files on it. It was mailed to me for use in a project. I cannot tell you what type of camera or what software they used to burn this dvd. I tried to use the clips in Premier, but they would not work. I can open them in WMP. I'm working in Vista 64 with CS4.
I went into properties to see what extension and codec was used. Though the extension says .avi, the codec says "MainConcept (Adobe2) MPEG Video Decoder". The size is 640 x 480.
Can anyone tell me how to convert these .avi files to files that can be read by Adobe Premier CS4? I don't see that codec listed. I read the file on ImTooVideo Converter, but that doesn't seem to list the solution to this particular problem.
    Suggestions?

Bill - I used Adobe Encoder and it encoded the files to .avi from whatever it actually was. However, it did not encode the audio. I have good quality video with no audio. I tried a couple of times.
Any idea on how to convert the audio now that the video is done?
I can't download that Gspot program. The video computer is off line w/no virus protection. I really try not to add anything to that system. It's very touchy - using windows vista 64 etc etc.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Codec Recognition

I know this has been posted before, however no one ever got to the bottom of this. But here is the issue again: Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 isn't able to recognize the MJPEG codecs that I've bought and installed on my computer. I'm only given a choice of the codecs that Came with Adobe (which ultimately isn't really ideal at all).
Has there been a solution to this problem since March? (which the last thread was posted).
If you still don't understand the problem heres what happens:
Open new project > Select Desktop as editing mode > In Video Preview, there only appears to be the list of codecs that came with Adobe:
This problem is past quite annoying, I can't get any work done because of the (MASSIVE) rendering times.

So this is a decision made by Adobe? Thats kind of odd but anyways, Ill probably use I-frame as i've tested it out before and it delivers incredible speeds for previews as well. Thank you.
However this brings me to my next question, why is it some people are able to view and use third party codecs in Pro?
I didn't say it was an Adobe decision - I only put forth the possibility that it might be.  Remember we are talking about preview files here.  These are the files that make the red render bar go away when you press the Enter key.  They are temporary and can be easily re-generated if necessary.  They have nothing to do with your final export, unless you tell Pr and the AME to use those files instead of the original source video.  I can imagine a scenario where the Pr engineers would want to severely limit the codecs that could be used for those files.
So the third party codecs are all available to you for export.  The export settings dialog in Pr is part of Pr, even though it looks exactly the same as the settings dialog in the AME.

I am looking for codecs for Mov and MTS file types for Premiere CS4.  Anything I can find on the Adobe site?

  • CS4 Exporting Trouble - Audio / Video Sync

I'm having a lot of trouble exporting from Premiere CS4. I have a 5 minute video project shot in 1920x1080 and I'm just trying to export it into a format that can support its HD. When I try the H.264 BluRay preset, though, the audio and video are hugely off sync from each other. I've exported smaller portions using the Windows Media Video format, and that looks great, but it won't render my entire video without the export failing due to an error.
Is there any way I can get this exported without selling myself short on quality?

Dang, for most users, the MainConcept H.264 has been about perfect.
Maybe another user will have some ideas on the OOS issues. Most of those seem to revolve around Apple's H.264, but that is not the case with your Project. Sorry that I could not help.

  • Codec trouble with FCP6

Hi everyone, I have Final Cut Pro 6 and have trouble regarding with codec. I referred to the past discussions, but I could not figure out what was wrong.
First of all, I just started to learn how to use final cut pro and I bought "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 6". The book comes with lesson files on DVD.
My trouble is that I can't open the lesson files accompanied with the training book properly.
I first copied the lesson on my desktop, then clicked the file, but the display says ""Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card". ".
I don't know why this happens.
I have an Intel processor iMac I bought 5months ago and I recently installed Final Cut Studio2. I believe that my Mac has a good system enough to handle the files.
When I open the files directly from the lesson DVD, only audio plays, but no video.
What is codec? It seems that my computer can handle almost all types of codec. Do I have to download something?
The training book says, "In order to reduce the file size, the clips you will edit were recompressed using the new Apple ProRes 422 codec.".
Umm, I have no idea what to do. It will be my great pleasure if anybody knows the answer!!

Yes, I have the latest version of FCP6.
Actually, I read a review about the training book and some people also had the same trouble, so it might be the training DVD whic his causing this whole trouble.

  • Pr Pro CS4 codecs and G-Spot

    Hello again
After installing Pr Pro CS4 , I noticed that it installed a bunch of direct show filters (splitters & codecs) from Main Concept.
But, if I take a look to the list of filters in G-Spot , they get reported as "problem". In particular, G-Spot says that the files are missing from the corresponding folders.
Nevertheless, I tried playing videos through those filters, and apparently they work fine.  I am thinking this is a bug in G-Spot.
Could anybody with CS4 and G-Spot please take a look , and tell me if you see the same thing?
(go to "Systems>List codecs and other filters" )
    Thanks!
    Gonza

As Stanley has mentioned, both G-Spot and Sherlock the CODEC Detective will report issues, but that is because PrPro "hides" its CODEC's with a change in naming conventions. That is to keep other programs from overwriting those CODEC's. It yields the "false-positive" for broken/corrupted CODEC's, but maybe with the next generation of CODEC utilities, that will be taken into consideration.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premier Pro CS4 having trouble with HDV video

Recently I had a video shot with an HD camera and use the HDV codec. I couldnt even open these files in Adobe Premier - until someone was able to install Final Cut Pro on the computer (assumin FCP came with some sort of codec). I just dont know how to use final cut pro - but that program seems to have no problems with this video file.
So im trying to edit it using Premier PRO - but the video is very delayed - almost in slow motion. Does anyone know what i can do? I really need to make some simple edits to this video and then render it out as an FLV - i dont have time to learn final cut pro before this needs to be done.
Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    amanda

    Amanda,
It would appear that you are on a Mac. I'm not sure if G-Spot will run on a Mac, unless you also have some form of Windows system on it, i.e. Bootcamp, or similar. You might get info on this from the G-Spot site.
If it will not run, you'll be missing a wonderful tool. Instead, open QuickTime Player. Load one of these files. Hit Ctrl-j (Command-j on the Mac, I think) to get to the Properties screen. Look there to find out the CODEC's used in these files. Let us know about them. I do not know FCP, but it probably has a built-in Properties utility, that might yield more and better info on the files, that QT Player will. Would be worth a look and a try.
You are probably correct that it's a CODEC issue and that FCP has access to the proper one. It could well be that PrPro cannot even use that one, but until we find out what it is, we'll not know.
BTW, what make and model of camera?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS4 bug -  trouble with looping symbols

I really really need help with this. I am in the middle of a job and although this has happened many times before this is happening with more regularity recently.
When I simply select a symbol in CS4 and change the looping from 'loop' to 'single frame' or 'play once' it will sometimes change the symbols colour and give it a transparency (as if you have changed the alpha and tint of that symbol). I cannot get around this and if it happens and I haven't noticed it ruins that bit of animation and I have to delete it all.
if I go into the symbol the colours are restored but as soon as I leave it again it reverts to some kind of neon translucent version.
I am so desperate for help, it happens on other computers and with other files.
This is always a totally unreliable programme it has given me such stress!

Bumping this isn't going to gain it any attention... it will actually reduce your chances because postings with replies tend to be skipped over in favor of those with 0 replies.  In any case, you are not likely to find anyone from Adobe waiting to hear from you here since these are user-to-user forums and are not monitored by Adobe.  You might get lucky and have the one employee that sometimes visits catch your posting, but don't cross your fingers.
If you think there is a bug in the program, then what you should do is report it using the link below.
Adobe - Wishlist & Bug Report
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Though it sounds more like something that might be an installation or system-related problem specific to you since it hasn't come up here before as far as I can remember.  And since you seem to only have posts regarding issues with using the program, it looks more like the problem is probably something in the installation and not the program's design.

  • Mac DW-CS4 Activation Trouble from CS2 Upgrade Path

Am I mistaken? I've just purchased what I believe to be the correct version of DW CS 4 UPG from GoLive, CS2 or 9. $199.00 Mac, English, as currently offered at the Adobe online store.
However, the installer doesn't find my existing version of CS2 nor does it accept my valid serial numbers from CS2 or CS(1)(as in GoLive CS.) A few weeks ago, there was conflicting information buried here in certain website pages about the upgrade path (which seem to have been reworded now) along with conflicts in Adobe Service Provider documents about upgrades. Furthermore, there still seems to be conflicting / confusing upgrade path info on the top of the list at the Dreamweaver forum FAQ – the post from two weeks ago named "Serial number not accepted." The post says you can't upgrade from a Creative Suite to a standalone version but at the Adobe store the contrary is offered.
    Am I mistaken?
    Could this be more confusing?
Does anyone else besides me find the 7 blue links on the lower left of the Dreamweaver store page regarding "Please check upgrade eligibility before making your selection..." do not work at all? (I'm using the latest Safari.)
    Thanks!
    – If not now, when.

The upgrade path is listed here: http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/upgrade/?view=available.
It says you can upgrade to Dreamweaver CS4 from Adobe GoLive 9, CS2, CS, 6.0, or 5.0. However, that means a standalone version of GoLive, not GoLive as part of a suite. This is confirmed on the following page: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq/?anonymous_element_1=2. It lays out the upgrade eligibility very clearly:
Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from a previous suite edition to a standalone product?
No. Upgrade pricing is available only if you have one of the qualifying earlier products listed on the upgrade eligibility page of the product you wish to purchase and can provide the serial number for that product during installation.
Creative Suite Premium or Standard; Creative Suite 2 Premium or Standard; Production Studio; and Macromedia Studio do not qualify for upgrade pricing on standalone products such as Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, or Dreamweaver CS4.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Exporting Trouble

Hey guys, I have been having trouble whenever I export my video. I have a video all set up, ready to export (all rendered) and
it doesn't matter what format, file type, size, quality, or anything, it just keeps doing this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb2qt3XHFhI
It seems like some of the clips aren't loading correctly, or something.
Help would be appreciated. I just need this done, and I have no clue why it is doing this.
    Thanks!

This looks like it could be the problem. The thing is though, I exported it once, and I had no trouble at all. It just seems odd to me. But the time remapping is just like,
Time Remapping- Speed 100.00%- Velocity 100.00 / second
So should I just create a new sequence, with the settings such as "AVCHD - 720p - AVCHD 720p60" ? or should I have the frame rate the same as the clips?
If you have google talk, we can use that, it would be a lot simpler than doing this, and would provide faster help. [email protected] is mine.

  • CS4 has trouble alphabetizing Script menu

Here's another Script headache. Doesn't seem CS4 is properly alphabetizing my obnoxiously long list of scripts. On a side note, is there any way to organize this mess?

I found an interesting solution. AE seems to sort within nested folders in the Script folder.  So if I put my scripts into folders, then use dummy separator files, I can get some visual separation between groups.

  • Please help, EX1 + PremPro CS4.1 NO Preview while editing.

So, I am wondering what is the best sequence settings for ex1 cam. I am having a ton of problems with cs4 and am thinking (PRAYING) it is a user error.
Project: 2hr long recital where we had three Sony EX-1 cameras. All shooting 1920x1080p (HQ). And there are two shows, but I'll edit them in different projects.
In CS3, I would start the project and just pull the footage in... no problem everything played fine. Then when I upgraded to CS4 it was CHOPPY to the point I could not edit.
    Sequence Settings: General:
Editing Mode: Desktop. But was the EX1 1920x1080 hq by default... but that wasnt working. So far, Desktop is the only thing that has even let video show up... if I import only 25minutes of footage, it plays back smooth! NOTHING has worked like this, so is Desktop the way to go?
    Video Previews: I-Frame Only MPEG
I really do think this is where the problem is. The video is killing me, audio plays back like a champ (if i turn off the video and press play). I dont know enough about this to know if I am correct or not. Should I do I-frame or AVI? and if AVI which Codec? Also, should i click max bit depth and render quality? i'd assume no for a preview.
Thanks a million for any help!!!

    8 GB ddr2
    64-bit vista prem
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT
    1.5 TB of storage
OS Drive is a Raptor 10k
I am on my way to work now to get CS3 to downgrade. /sigh.

I have a similar problem with HQ EX1 footage. in my case, the problem crops up when shooting lengthy events where the continuous footage ends up being split between two SxS cards. For some reason PPro CS4 has trouble after importing the long file into the project. The culprit seems to be the "importerprocessserver.exe". It locks up after importing the lengthy split clip and prevents further preview. PPro itself doesn't crash. Shorter EX1 footage works fine. It is strange that the split clip seems to import successfully, however the moment I try and preview it the "importerprocessserver" locks up and no further preview is possible (of any footage).
My workaround has been to move the folder containing half of the split file to another hard drive and import it separately. PPro no longer sees the split files as linked and imports them individually. When I do this I have no difficulty editing EX1 footage.
I'll be submitting a bug report on this today.

  • CS4 Installation Problem on Mac - Error 2

I have tried for several hours to make the new install of Adobe CS4 work. The Lightroom2 install worked fine. Background: I have a macbook pro, OS/X 10.5.7, enough avail disk space. I had a trial version of LR2 and full CS2. I have done the following: checked "repair permissions" - an OS/X utility that interfered with operating Capture NX a couple years ago, so I added that step. I have uninstalled every Adobe application, using Clean Script 3 and Clean Script 4. I have tried to install CS4 in a separate user account, which has since been deleted, and again both Clean Scripts have been run. I have restarted my computer and downloaded a fresh version of CS4. I have tired to install it as a Tial version instead of an upgrade, also.  It NEARLY installs, but at the very end of the install bar, after Bridge and before finishing Photoshop installation,  I get a big red X and an error and find it is Error 2. The Adobe support pdf's have not helped, including those referenced by their little support bot.
Have spent a couple hours with Adobe Support, also.  No one knows what Error 2 means.
Also, the "support" person closed my case as though it had been resolved - said he would call me back in one hour and 2ours 45 minutes later had not called back.  He CLOSED the case, wasting my time and lying to me.

I have just committed the cardinal sin of allowing my daughter to install Adobe CS4 Web Premium on my new Mac Pro 2.26 8 Core.
I use this computer for pro music composition, and until I allowed my daughter to talk me into letting her use it for Adobe Web Premium (24" Apple screen, she has a PC laptop), it was strictly a no fly zone.
    My worst fears were realized.
Neither she, nor I, can't get a clean install. Each attempt is greeted by a 'Successful but with Errors' or some such garbage. I have submitted a support requerst but have had no reply.
The new Mac died. Apple replaced it with a new computer under Applecare Warranty, and a new hard disk, but still the problem remains.
I've tried a new partition; nope.
I get the folling error codes:

I tried to download the Adobe Support Advisor, but it would not download. I have erased the registration, followed the instructions to the letter.
    Nothing.
Adobe help in Australia were polite but did not resolve the problem. I called again and was greeted by a call centre somewhere in the Third World by someone who knew less about computers that they did about Adobe products. This poor person probably has a good job within his impoverished community, but undoubtedly paid a pittance (or why would Adobe set up a Call Centre in India), which make s it really hard to vent my frustrations without appearing racist.
I am attempting to take over the problem as there is no way a seventeen year old girl could negotiate this. I can't.
    Has anybody any clues?
Appreciate any help. I can't access my daughter's email which the product is registered through at Adobe, as it is on her school computer which is connected through the school server, but my email is [email protected].
Appreciate any help. Or the contact details of a good hit-man.

  • Trouble Importing MOV files in adobe premiere pro cs3

    Hi,
I just bought a Canon 60D camera and I am using adobe premiere pro cs3 for the first time.
I tried to import MOV file footages made by my Canon 60D, but it says that my files are not supported.
I don't know what to do!
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you.

    Hi All,
Let me tell you how I solved the XDV9 codec trouble on my Windows 7 system. The solution is rather stunning because I am using completely free software. First download the Shark007 codec pack for your system here: http://shark007.net/forum/Thread-Setup-and-usage . Please be aware that the codec pack installer comes with a toolbar install option so make sure you de-select this option during the installation process. After installation check the MOV tab on the "Settings Application" program. Make sure "use LAV's splitter" is selected for MOV Playback.
Now comes the crazy part... To convert the XDV9 MOV video clips just download Windows Essentials Movie Maker for Windows 7. At this moment more info about this program can be found here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started . Again, make sure to set the right settings during installation otherwise you will be installing a lot of possible unwanted crap like Windows Live Mail, Windows Skydrive etc.
Movie Maker has quite good settings for converting (High Definition or custom settings are supported). Select your clip, or select multiple clips to create an unedited full length clip of all your clips, and then select "create movie". I used the "use recomended settings for this project" settings as it matches the source file resolution and frame rates etc. It is quite some work to convert clips like this but its the only free solution I could find so far.
    Good luck!
