CS4: Convert to Grayscale grayed out

Trying to convert an Illust. CS4 document to grayscale using the manuals steps: Choose Edit > Edit Colors > Convert To Grayscale. However, all those options under Edit > Edit Colors > are grayed out (ironically ;^). I assume I have to convert something first, but what? Thanks!

>Convert to Grayscale grayed out
Oh, man... That's right up there with the timeless NY Post headline, "Headless Body in Topless Bar."
I'm sorry, I can't comment further. I'm at AI 12 (CS2), which does not have that feature.

    It has nothing to do with the camera make as this happens whether there is a memory card attached or not but I'm shooting a Nikon D810 and have not been having this issue until Adobe upgraded their Camera Raw this week.
    I have verified that all my Adobe products are up to date.
    I do not have Adobe Downloader installed as a standalone product and never have.  I've been using PS/Bridge since CS3.

  • WebEx Recording - Convert to mp4 grayed out

    I administer a CWMS system, version 2.5.1.29.B-AE
    I'm using the WebEx Network Recording Player download provided by our host, Version 29.9.0.10085
    I use Windows 7, not Mac.
    I can convert to WMV and see the option for SWF, but MP4 is grayed out.  Screenshot attached.
    Okay.  I give.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    You aren't doing anything wrong. MP4 conversion is not supported with CWMS NBR recordings. There is an enhancement request submitted for this feature: CSCuj07694 Ability to convert recordings in downloadable MP4 file format. Feel free to share this with your Cisco Account Team so they can push this with Product Management and possibly include it in a new release of the product.
    I hope this helps.

  • Cs4 converting to grayscale

    Hello all, I have a document in CMYK color and im having trouble converting it's swatches to grayscale. I did a search and it only yielded Grayscale converstion at the PDF level. However the Grayscale color space seems to have been removed from the options available in the PDF maker dialogue box. Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks!

    Sure. I have been thinking for a while it could be useful -- after all, it is an option in Illustrator. (But then we've known for years now that the programmers of InDesign Do Not Talk to the ones of Illustrator. I bet there is a Movie of the Week in that story...)
    This extremely quick-and-dirty script converts a swatch of choice to Lab color, then uses the L component for the Black part in a CMYK color. It should also be possible to convert it to a tint of black, but that's just a bit more work.
    (Copy, paste into Adobe's ESTK Editor, save as "SwatchToGray.jsx" into your User Scripts folder. Only works with simple RGB, Lab, or CMYK swatches; not with gradients, tints, Pantones, imported colors, mixed ink groups, or anything else that's not a simple swatch.)
    //DESCRIPTION:Convert a color swatch to grayscale
    // Jongware, 13-Jul-2010
    var myDialog = app.dialogs.add({name:"Swatch To Gray", canCancel:true});
    swatchlist = [];
    namelist = [];
    for (i=4; i<app.activeDocument.swatches.length; i++)
    if (!(app.activeDocument.swatches[i].hasOwnProperty("baseColor") || app.activeDocument.swatches[i].hasOwnProperty("gradientStops")))
      swatchlist.push(app.activeDocument.swatches[i]);
      namelist.push(app.activeDocument.swatches[i].name);
    with (myDialog)
    with (dialogColumns.add())
      with (dialogRows.add())
       staticTexts.add ({staticLabel:"Swatch"});
       swatchDropDown = dropdowns.add ({stringList:namelist, selectedIndex:0});
    if (myDialog.show())
    // Fetch selection
    swatch = swatchlist[swatchDropDown.selectedIndex];
    // Convert to RGB:
    swatch.space = ColorSpace.LAB;
    // Make quick-and-dirty gray
    gray = swatch.colorValue[0];
    // Convert to CMYK
    swatch.space = ColorSpace.CMYK;
    // Set color
    swatch.colorValue = [0,0,0, 100-gray];

  • Convert ID3 Tags Grayed Out

    Seems to be confined to CDs that I import using Gracenote and convert to Apple Lossless. Very frustrating as other software I use needs ID3 tags and this porcess just does not seem to preserve tham properly. I think "Convert ID3 tags" would fix this but it does not seem to be an option.
    Can any other software do this conversion?

    Yes, you can right-click on a file or files in your iTunes library or playlist or press Apple+i, and then go to the Info tab to edit the metadata.

  • ExportPDF Convert button grayed out

    Two days ago my company paid for a subscription to ExportPDF. But when I open a document in Acrobat 11.0.06 and sign in, the Convert To: option button and the Convert button are grayed out. Nothing works, no error messages, no indication of any problem. The product indicates that we paid for 12 months of unlimited conversions of PDF to Word, Excel, and maybe RTF, but so far this has been a waste. Three different useless chat sessions finally brought me here. Does anyone know anything useful to try?

    David,
    Thanks much for your reply! But unfortunately that is not the reason because as I noted above " ... when I open a document in Acrobat 11.0.06 and sign in, the Convert To: option button and the Convert button are grayed out."
    I have also tried to use ExportPDF from the web tool, same result.
    Here is what happens.
    I open any PDF I'd like to convert. In the Tools panel on the right, I toggle open ExportPDF. At this point, the Convert To: and Convert buttons are available. If I click either one, I get the notice that this requires a Paid Account and to Sign Up Now. Since I have already paid, I close that and go to the little blue Sign In link at the upper right corner.
    A Sign In box pops up asking for my password as my Adobe ID email address is now prepopulated. I enter my password and get logged in as indicated by the username at the upper right.
    BUT the Convert To: and Convert buttons in the ExportPDF panel are still grayed out and now there is the light blue box that indicates this requires a Paid Account and I need to Sign Up Now. So you see this is an endless loop to nowhere. (Same thing happens on the web, constantly prompted to pay, even though I already have.)
    My guess is that the system has failed to register that I am a paid user. Can you unstick this and make it work correctly?
    It's now been about a week since we paid, the option does not work, and I believe this is something simple. I need to be able to use this as Adobe advertises or request a refund.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

  • How to convert illustrator file containing a photograph to grayscale when the "convert to grayscale" option is grayed out?

    It's been several years since I've done any design work at all. I recently got a job as a designer, and on my first day I had to create an ad in illustrator 5.5 (required to be in illustrator) for print in a black and white publication. There was even an ad template to use. I placed the photo and tried to use the "convert to grayscale" option but everything under the edit colors menu was grayed out. I know it's because of the photo. In the end I changed the photo to grayscale in photoshop and replaced the image, but I know there is another way around this. Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this issue?
    Thank you so much in advance!

    If the placed image is linked, Edit Colors will not allow conversion to grayscale; however, an embedded image will work just fine. The flyout menu in the Links Panel allows you to embed the image.

  • CS4 license marooned on my dead / inaccessible computer. Online Support goes in circles. Can't elevate to human by phone, or by chat. Chat link grayed-out for me. Now what?

    Hello:
    I attempted to follow instructions given by a previous answer that addresses the same problem I have, but without success: Deactivation, cant reach computer it was activated on and Adobe "support" goes in circles and ends up in forum where Adobe cannot deactivate for me
    Following Contact Customer Care did not lead me to chat option that I could spot. I'm sorry if I missed a link that is obvious to everyone but me. Maybe I just need that link pointed out to me more vigorously.
    By the way, this link, What are my contact options? has a chat option, but it is grayed out (at least for me) so that's a dead end.
    So, please explain to me (like I'm a bewildered child) how to get to chat support. I am unable to fill in logical gaps by myself. :-/
    Thank you SO much. :-)
    That's it for my question. The rest is just a boring account of how I struggled to get here. Which I include just in case an Adobe Staff Member would find my customer-experience worth noting.
    I reached Shivangi Moitra (Adobe) [email protected] by sending feedback about the dead-end support loop that I encountered by following the steps here, at www.adobe.com/getsupport. Incidentally, I gave her a detailed description of my deactivation problem too. Shivangi responded by directing me to use the same link that goes in circles! To wit: "The first step for contacting us will be to start online [at www.adobe.com/getsupport]." Of course you notice that this is yet another dead-end circle in the customer support system.
    If my email to Shivangi is a useful reference then here you go!
    I am unable to get online or phone support from Adobe. I need to deactivate CS4 from a dead computer. Adobe online help is defective because it puts the user into an endless loop making it impossible for me to find a solution, and impossible to get support. Please remedy the defect and please call or email me to manually update Adobe's activation database. (Phone and email address redacted.)
    I own a copy of CS4 that is marooned on dead computer. Consequently, I can not deactivate that copy. I know that a single license for Adobe CS4 only lets me install the application on two computers, of which I can only use the application on one computer at a time.
    I need Adobe to manually deactivate my earliest CS4 installation from its servers so that I can activate CS4 again when my new computer dies so that my work flow is not interrupted by the unavoidable (meaning eventual) breakdown of my next computer.

  • Help please...All menus grayed out in CS4...

    Premiere Pro used to work and a few weeks ago when I openned it, all of the menu items were grayed out and no editing panel or anything openned. I can't even quit the program. Literally everything is grayed out.
    There is nothing I can do with it.  I have uninstalled the entire Master Collection using the Adobe Installers and double checked to make sure things were cleaned up by using the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.I have also attempted to just reinstall Premiere Pro from the disks to no avail.
    All other programs in the suite apprear to load and work fine. Only Premiere Pro CS4 does not work.
    Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I really need to be able to use the program and can't yet afford to upgrade to CS5.5... so any help would be appreciated.

    The second monitor has been an issue with several programs. Photoshop is one too.
    There is another thread, where a user was getting the "bing," that a window was open, but could not see it. Sure enough, it was on his second monitor, that had been disconnected. I should have asked if you had ever had a second monitor. I am the "dunce."
