CS4 crashing/quitting during PDF Export

Hello,
I am having an issue exporting a 108 page document to PDF. The document itself is only 25mb and the links maybe 50mb but everytime it nears completion InDesign abruptly closes...
I have seen the suggestion of printing to Adobe PDF and when I do the overall quality suffers.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Were you able to export any section?
How about a new doc, can you export that?
Two things to try if no section would export but you can export a new doc. First, export to .inx (interchange format) and open the resulting file in ID, save as a new .indd file, and try to export to PDF again.
Second, create a new document with the same page size and layout on the master page (or rename the masters in one doc or the other so they don't have any names in common), and also be sure that the [Basic paragraph] style is identical in both. Select all the pages of the first document in the pages panel, and from the panel menu select Move Pages To... and choose the new doc as the target. Delete the original blank page after the move, and save as a new .indd file and try to export.
It might also help, if neither of those works, to delete everything in the temp folders.

  • InDesign CS5.5 Problem - Crash during PDF export (Runtime Error)

    Hello,
I'm working with Adobe CS5.5 and have a problem with the PDF-export of some of my projects.
The problematic projects are rather big (44-124 pages) with lots of pictures.
The error I get during export is:
[Headline:] Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information
The program is not specified in the error.
Export works fine for these files on my collegues computer with the same settings (hardware and software are almost a match).
Microsoft Runtime Library was completely reinstalled without solving the problem.
Any suggestions how to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much

  • InDesign CS6 crashes on large PDF export...

I have my company's catalog done through InDesign.  We've done this the same way for years.  I've had this file for the last 3 years and have never had an issue exporting the full catalog as a PDF.  I can no longer say that.
When I try to export the individual sections, I can and have no problems at all.  When I try to export the full catalog, it crashes the program.  Sometimes I'll get a notification that a background process failed, but mostly it just crashes the entire program.
Here is the crash report generated by Mac OS X : http://pastebin.com/tKfEmjyb
    Computer: 27" Mid 2011 iMac, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970M, Mac OS X 10.8.2
InDesign: Version 8.0.1 (most up to date through Creative Cloud)
If any more information is needed, let me know.
Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks...
I can post the entire packaged file for download if somebody would like to look at it.  It's fairly large as we have lots of parts dimensions throughout that are handled by PDF from SolidWorks.  The InDesign file is 204 MB itself.

You can check the file history on the Mac by holding down the Cmd key when you select About InDesign from The InDesign menu with a file open. Very useful.
As far as what to do now, as I mentioned, I've had great luck with exporting tagged text which will be faster than copy/paste, if you can get it to export. Try to avoid the urge to scroll during the export of each story.
You export tagged text by placing the cursor in a story, but not selecting anything (which will export the entire story, even if threaded across many pages), or by making a selection with the cursor, in which case you get only the selected text. You'll be asked if you want verbose or abbreviated format, and in my experience it makes no difference.

  • Pre Pro 5.5 quits during Rendering/exporting

I've been working on short, 1min30 to 2min, testimonies including tracks for logo, title, matte, and the actual media. This requires keyframing changes in scale, position, 3-color correction, gobos and diffusion. The latter two coming from 3rd party Tiffen.  Got the first 4 or 5 done with no problem, but the last several have quit during rendering or, if rendered, during exporting. Data: CS 5.5, Mac 10.7.5, Source footage is HD 1440x1080, hard drive has remaining capacity of 1.65 TB, 3rd Party the aforementioned Tiffen Dfx v.3, and, sadly, no Mercury Playback Engine GPU. Can any one tell what's going on?

  • Photoshop CS4 - Layers Missing in PDF Export

    Hi there,
I'm working on a leaflet design for a client in Photoshop CS4 and am having a real issue with the PDF export. There are three layer groups all containing the same graphics, but when I export these to PDF - whether compressed or uncompressed and I've tried Reader 5 - 8 compatibility and with varying settings the layers do not appear in the PDF.
They are visible as plain as day in Photoshop, but don't appear at all in the PDF.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated,
    Many thanks,

Thanks for your answer :-) I will try the gradually merging option first. I did flatten it but lost a LOT of quality in the PDF, which is not great when this has to go to the printer's.
My image doesn't have clipping paths (probably hard to believe) but does have an epic number of layers. Here are the offending layers - nothing complex at all. The layers that don't appear, simply are the three squares which are in the 'Logo Squares' layer group.
If this enlightens you at all please let me know and I'll get back to you again. Thanks for posting!

  • InDesign CS4 crashes during PDF export

Computer is a Dell laptop that operates on Windows XP Professional. I am putting together our image- and text-heavy company newsletter. I have been able to export as Press-Quality PDF withing the past week or two. I made a change today and now get an error when I try to export to PDF (Press Quality, 4 pages, spreads, all marks, full bleeds). I've been able to isolate the problem to pages 3 & 4, since I can export pages 1 & 2 without any issue but cannot export either 3 or 4 seperately, or together in a spread. I've tried the save-as-INX-and-reopen trick to no avail. I've tried saving it onto my local drive, rather than the network drive it was on before. Still crashes at the same point.
The error I get says that "InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error, click here." And I have the option to "Debug" or "Close." When I click the "click here" link at the end of the sentence, I get a window with the following info:
    "Error Signature
    AppName: indesign.exe       AppVer:6.0.0.352      ModName:transparency.rpln
    ModVer: 6.0.0.352   Offset: 0006f14d
To view technical information about the error report, click here."
And if I click on that "click here" link, I get a very long  window of "Error Report Contents" that I cannot copy-paste, and would probably take me a good hour to retype here.
Any thoughts? I do have several transparencies on page 3, and a gradient stroke on an object that spans both 3 & 4. All links have been embedded and prior to embedding showed no signs of warnings or issues. Links include JPEGs, Photoshop files, and Illustrator files.

Finally found the troublemaker!!! You were right. I deleted all links, and it exported the PDF just fine. I went back and tried deleting single links at a time and found the one that, when deleted, everything else exported to PDF just fine. I opened that JPEG in Photoshop and cropped it to the exact size I needed, since I hadn't done this before, resaved under a new name, put it back in my InDesign file and everything just exported beautifully.
HUUUUGE sigh of relief over here. THANK YOU!
And next time I will bypass the wasted morning of pulling out hair and running in circles, and just come straight here.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes during PDF export

I have been attempting to export a magazine design to PDF using the dialogue in InDesign CS6 (for Mac). The PDF gets to around 90% in the background tasks panel and crashes every time. I have removed preferences, reinstalled InDesign, upgraded to Suitcase Fusion 4 and am still having problems. I have even tried printing as a .ps file and it crashes during that as well. A few weeks ago I had a similar problem but found that I was opening CS5 .indd files and not resaving them as CS6 .indd files before exporting. Once I resaved/renamed them in CS6 it appeared to fix the problem. Now I can't seem to fix this one. I have exported other files and it works fine. I even packaged the .idml file and a colleague of mine opened it up in CS5.5 and was able to export it. I thought it might have something to do with corrupt fonts but I disabled all fonts and still couldn't get it to export. Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I am on a deadline. • Since updating to Acrobat 9.3 PS CS4 crashes when saving pdf

I have CS4 Web Premium. When I save a document in pdf format from Photoshop(PS) CS4, it normally opens the saved document in Acrobat 9.x. Up until yesterday, when I installed the Acrobat 9.3 update, the results have always been to have the document open in both Acrobat and PSCS4. Now, however, when I save a pdf document in PSCS4, the document, after an unusually long lag after clicking the "save pdf" button in PSCS4, opens in Acrobat as before BUT Photoshop Crashes; an error says that PS experienced and error and will be closed....
I would like to know how to correct this, if possible. Alternatively, I would like to uninstall the update to Acrobat, since everything worked great before I installed it. Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • CS5--Need help connecting tags in Indesign during PDF export

I have a set of Tags and are set to connect to Paragraph Styles but somehow the Tags aren't using the Tag names during export to PDF.
On Show Tagged Items and also in Story Editor, you can see the tags are in place. But when I export to PDF and check Tags, they don't take the Tags.
    Am I missing something?

Hi, di you find a solution to this? I have the same/similar problem.
I have tagged my paragraph styles through Edit all export tags and they don't show up in my PDF when testing in Acrobat X. I have checked Export tagged PDf.
    Thanks

  • Premiere CS4 crashes/freezes upon File Export Media click

    My system:
CS4 master collection. I have some remnants of CS3 on my computer.
    4 Gig RAM
    Quad Core processor
    Vista
    My problem:
Problem started yesterday and I've tried a lot of things but can't figure this out. When I click File>Export>Media, premiere greys out most panels and nothing can be clicked. It gives a beep of death on every click. I need to use task manager to close premiere. The only thing I've found I am able to do is click escape, which returns me to my project as if nothing has happened.
I've tried a range of different projects, including a brand new one with nothing in it except a 10 second DV avi file. Same problem across the board.
I've reinstalled CS4 Master collection but didn't uninstall it first. No change. Would it help to uninstall everything and start from scratch?
    Never had this problem before.
It also does the same thing on file>export>clipnotes but I CAN export an EDL.
The only change to my PC between this not happening and it happening was I installed the new music streaming software 'Spotify'. I have since uninstalled this but it hasn't fixed it.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be hugely grateful.
    Ed

Hey Ed, I had replied earlier in the other thread you posted in and just noticed you started a new topic here, so, copied from the other thread:
I had something similar happen to me a few times... if the escape key is taking you back to premiere and returning everything to normal, then your computer is not really hanging or crashing. What most likely is happening is that Premiere is opening a dialog box OFF SCREEN, so you just can't see it or click on it to attend to what it's asking. Hitting escape is like hitting cancel, which returns you to your project.
To fix: just mess around with your monitor setups in your display panel, ie.: if you have a dual monitor setup, temporarily disable one monitor - forcing everything to open on one screen. And/Or set your screen resolution to the maximum your video card allows so that you may uncover the off screen space the dialog opens on. OR... you're video card may have a control panel with the option of forcing all windows onto one screen or preventing off screen display. Basically do whatever it takes to get a view of off your screen.
Once you discover that missing window, make sure you move it onto your primary display, somewhere in the center, and the next time you try to encode it should be right where it should be.
    Good luck.

  • Creative Suite CS2 InDesign Freeze Up During PDF Export

    Help anyone?
Why does my InDesign CS2 sometimes freeze up when I am trying to export to a pdf? I then have to do a 'Force Quit' and retry.
When I am trying to make a pdf in InDesign, I select >File >Export and export to pdf with 'press high res' setting and then it just
'spools' and freezes. I may have to restart my computer a couple times and then it exports fine into a pdf.
I am on a Mac Pro, Intel Xeon, 2.66GHz, 512 MB memory, Hard drive: 700 GB.
    What's the solution?

More RAM, more RAM, more RAM. It's necessary to have a minimum of 2 GB to get anything done with the more recent versions of OSX.

  • CS4 crashing quite often

I have a Canon VIXIA, my computer chokes when editing the .mts files, so I do a quick conversion to .mpg which seems to be more manageable.
But CS4 will often freeze up when editing these files. The computer is a notebook, 2 Ghz 2 Duo with 4 GB of ram. Only one disk in it, but that doesn't seem to be the problem, the problem is that it freezes at a certain point on some .mpg clips if they are in the timeline.
What I do in these situations is edit around the second that is causing a problem using the Source Monitor. Very gingerly so as not to crash PP.
As strange as it seems, there are certain seconds in some clips that PP doesn't "like."
I'm hoping I've given enough info here for someone to help me, it's very frustrating.
    Thanks
    David

    David,
Your system is way underpowered and does not meet minimum requirements. It is liking towing a 40 ton load with a bicycle.
    You have three choices:
    1. Get another camera that gives you easier material to edit, with a less taxing codec.
    2. Get a new PC, suitable for editing that AVCHD material. Think i7-930, 12 GB memory and at least three internal disks.
    3. Use another editor that requires less muscle, Think Edius for instance.

  • Imac crash/shutdown during movie export

    Hi,
I've just purchased Final CutPro X and while I was "exporting" my first movie my imac suddenly turn itself off!  I am running the 27 imac i5 with 16gb RAM Mac OS X and after the first incident I tried exporting FCP X again with the Activity Monitor running. This time I noticed that out of the 16gb RAM I only had about 120mb Freeand then the computer shutdown again.  The computer would restart normallywhen I turn it on after that.
    What can I do?
    Thanks,
    Apiwat

    Hi Apiwat,
I have the same spec computer exactly only the 21" but with 16GB, i5 running Lion and FCP X.  I would not worry about the memory you show free since many people are reporting that ... many of whom are not affected by it.  I am taking an educated guess here, but it seems like FCP X likes to allocate (reserve) as much as is available since it will be working with giga-byte clips.  It can always release some of that memory if other processes/applications start up. I wrote operating systems for a living most of my life, and this is a fairly common practice.  Mac OS X will be the referee between the apps over the memory usage.
Out of almost 100 exports/shares I have done using FCP X, I have only had my system crash twice.   And I do fairly large projects.  Both times were when I had done a lot of edits and added effects, titles and color processing, etc and tried to share (export) before the background rendering was complete.  Maybe it was just coincidence, or that I'm a little over cautious, but nowadays I always let the background rendering complete before starting the share processing.  If I feel I have done a heavy, heavy amount of processing in the edit session, I will exit out of that project and back to the project browser then come back into the project ... then start my export/share ... again after the background rendering has completed.  When I wait for background processing to end before starting the export, I have never had a problem.  Again, I am not saying this is defintely it ... just trying to give you something that might help a little. Best wishes,
    stephen
