CS4 Created Text Grainy When Converted to Adobe Acrobat Pro
This is a beginner's question. In Photoshop CS4 I'm creating what I believe to be relatively high resolution text, 4000 pixels/inch. One of the fonts is not commonly installed on user PCs so I have to rasterize the text. I want the background to be transparent so I apparently have to save as a PNG image. I'm inserting this image into a PowerPoint slide then creating a PDF of this slide using Adobe Pro 9.

First of all, I have to eliminate printing to PDF, because it doesn't
preserve my bookmarks, and that is not acceptible.
I have disabled the Adobe COM plugin for Word 2007 and used Microsoft's
built-in Save As PDF functionality, which results in the form data
disappearing. I have enabled the Adobe COM plugin for Word 2007, and did a
Save As Adobe PDF resulting in the same problem. I opened Adobe and created
a PDF from the Word 2007 document, and the same issue occurs.

Create a dynamic dropdown field in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI
Hello all. I am trying to create a field in one of my forms using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I have a dropdown list of "main" items, and based on what is selected in that list, I want a second dropdown list to give different choices. I have searched and searched and have javascript that I thought might work, but maybe I am have a mistake or I am placing the javascript in the wrong place, becasue it is not working. I know very, very little about javascript, so any help would be so much appreciated.
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I added a "new field", and selected "dropdown". The field name is ProvType. The dropdown options are:
Inpatient
Outpatient
Physician
I have the "Commit selected value immediately" selected.The field is not validated. The format is "none." There are no actions or calculations associated with it.
I then created another dropbox, and named it SubProvType. Under Actions, I selected the trigger as Mouse Up, and then selected the Action "Run a JavaScript." I selected the add button, and typed this in the JavaScript editor:

If "Physician" is selected, I want the following options to be available in the second dropdown box "SubProvType":
Surgeon

However.... when I close the form editing and try to select a different option in the ProvType field, the SubProvType field remains blank and there are no options available. There are also no errors.

If what you are looking to do is have two dropdown fields, and the second one (concentration) be a list determined by what was chosen in the first one (newMajor) then this will work, if you are using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Create a dropdown field and name it newMajor. In the "options" tab. Make sure that you enter all of the items that you want in that list AND that they match the javascript (or this will not work.)
In this case, I believe you want the initial list to be:

BA - Communication (BACOMM)
BA - History (BAHIST)
BBA - Business Administration (BBA-BADM)
After you create the dropdown field and enter all of the options, go to the Validate tab, chose "run custom validation script", then copy and paste the following:

Then create a second dropdown field, and name it Concentration. Nothing further needs to be done with the second dropdown field (as far as entering options or any javascript.)
It should work. I have created a form using this code and field structure, and it is working. I hope this helps you, if in fact this is what you were trying to do. Creating a basic list portfolio in Adobe Acrobat Pro X 10.1.2 and higher

I am trying to create a basic portfolio in Adobe Acrobate Pro X 10.1.2; however, I only have the following layouts available:
Click-Through
Freeform
Grid
Linear
Wave
None of these layouts seem practical. I just need a standard list portfolio, similiar to the "list with file preview" layout available in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. Is there a similar list portfolio available in later versions of Adobe that I am just not aware about? I really don't want to have go looking for a custom-portfolio to download.

To be complete on this, first make sure JavaScript is enabled:
Edit > Preferences, JavaScript category
Check "Enable Acrobat JavaScript".
To open the console, you can hit ctrl-J.
-Or- to use a tool button to open the console, do the following:
1. If Javascript is not listed in the Tools pane, show the JavaScript panel heading by selecting the following menu item:
View > Tools > JavaScript
2. Click the arrow on the JavaScript heading to show the tools beneath it.
3. Click "JavaScript debugger". to show the JavaScript console/debugger.

Graphics in FrameMaker 9 lost when converted in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
Since upgrading to FrameMaker 9, some graphics that appear fine in FrameMaker become black boxes in the PDFs created by Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. By finding the original graphic and reimporting it, the problem is solved, but the original graphic is not always available. Is there any other workaround to this problem created by the software? Suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!
I use Save As PDF (book). When I print to PDF, I don't get the problem (but I don't get the bookmarks)
I think you find in many places on this forum that the best practices for making a PDF is to print to the Adobe PDF printer, either directly or indirectly (saving the ps file and distilling with Distiller). It is my understanding that there are problems with Save As PDF.
In any event, you should be able to get bookmarks by printing to Adobe PDF printer. In the Print dialog, select Generate Acrobat Data and click PDF Setup. In the PDF setup dialog > Bookmarks tab, select Generate PDF Bookmarks and select the formats to bookmark. It is the same dialog that displays when you do Save As PDF.
Because your graphics are COPIED into the Frame files, I know of no way to get them out again from the Frame file. That is why I always import graphics by reference, so that the original graphic is always available if needed for editing or reimportation.
If you absolutely need a graphic file AND the Frame to PDF workflow is working properly, you can always create the PDF for the page with the graphic (turning OFF all resampling and compression). Then open the file in Illustrator and delete all but the graphic; then save as PDF or eps. Or open the PDF in Acrobat Professional and export the image (if a bitmap) or delete all but the graphic and save as PDF. -
Removing digital signatures created in a previous version of adobe acrobat pro
I recently installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro, which required the removal of my previous version (8 Pro). I have several PDF docs created in (8 pro) with signature fields. I reuse these docs inputting updated info. When I do I clear the signature field, and place a new signature. After installed (X Pro) I can no longer clear the signature fields to place an updated signature. I am assuming that the new installation deleted my old signature ID that I created with (8 pro). Is there any way to clear my old signatures?
I don't think it should have deleted the digital ID file, so if you can find it you should be able to add it in Acrobat. Seach you system for any .pfx files to see if you can find it. See this previous thread for some potentially helpful info: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/991314

I am working on a big project & creating everything in word. I then am turning the documents into PDF format so they will be easy for everyone to open. I have several PDFs that are not the way I want them & want to delete them so I don't have so many documents with similar names. Is there a way to delete a pdf from my saved document?? This is probably very simple & I am over thinking it, but appreciate any help.
I was able to figure it out, & just as I thought way to simple! UGH!

CS4 suite serial number does not work for Adobe Acrobat Pro

I am looking for a solution for the serial number issue I am having with Adobe Acrobat Pro. All of other programs within the suite open fine, but when I open Adobe Acrobat Pro it asks for a serial number. When I type in the serial number, I am given a red "X".
I have called customer support, but they haven't been able to give me any information that will resolve my issue (uninstalled 4 times now). I have Vista and have looked online and on the Adobe website to find a solution. It looks like others are having the same issue from what I can tell while searching. I have run the script too and then reinstalled, but still nothing.After some stupid upgrade in my computer (who knows as Microsoft is always doing something), my Acrobat 9 in CS4 stopped working. The error message said to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. So I went through the control panel and uninstalled it. I then loaded the CD and reinstalled. However the reinstall would NOT accept the orginal serial number. I called Adobe and they gave me a different serial number. Before I let the guy nof the line I tried the number and it did NOT work! So then he gave me another number which asked for the previous verison- apparently it was an upgrade number. Luckily I had my old CS3 software and I gave it that number and then it accepted the install. The program now works BUT there is no longer any ADD/REMOVE choice in the CS4 suite in the control panel. There is no way to automatically remove this program anymore! What a mess.
After reading some of the installation problems others have had and no solutions, I count myself lucky! At least I was able to get the program running.
Therefore my advise on the serial number problem is to get Adobe on the phonen and get them to give you a number that will work, and don't hang up until you know the program is working!
If anyone knows how to add the Acrobat to the the add/remove functions in the control panel, please let me know! -
Adobe acrobat pro 9 keeps telling me "the serial number I entered is not valid"
I recently had my macbook pro logic board fail and had to purchase a new macbook pro (expensive reinvestment after only 3 years but that's another story).
Anyway, all of my cs4 upsell products loaded just fine, except adobe acrobat pro 9 keeps telling me "the serial number I entered is not valid." After contacting adobe thru chat several times, here is the info I got back: my serial number IS valid, I still can activate 3 more times (deactivation was not an issue in this case), the final answer was the cs1 server (my previous version before cs4) is no longer available which basically renders my version of acrobat unusable. Is that really the case? Now that I have a new computer I can't use that software any longer it was working fine on my old laptop? Why did all the other software load okay? Did I miss something or is buying another upgrade neccessary?
ps: using Macbook Pro with MacOS X.8.5Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver are all working just fine. I haven't needed any other apps yet since the reinstall. Install actually worked fine too for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 but when I try to open anything in it I get the Software Setup Screen and it wants me to enter the serial number for the product, when I do it says the serial number is invalid. I included a screen shot below with the serial number removed so you can see. In chatting with adobe, my rep said it is a valid number (obviously since it worked fine on my other apps), but the server for CS1 is no longer available and since I have an upsell from CS1 they cannot offer me support and to take my question to the forum board, so here I am.

Adobe Acrobat Pro wants to make changes.
Since a while I use now OS X 10.9 and every time when I open Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, the dialoge comes up "Adobe Acrobat Pro wants to make changes . Type your password to allow this. I use the other products as well like Dreamweaver and Photoshop of the CS4 package but don't have any issues there.
Sabian, I looked at the suggested link, but don't have experience with OS X to know really how to do this. Since it seems to be the self healing feature, I tried the following and it worked.

I found a fix, but it may not be a smart thing... Thoughts are appreciated as I'm not terribly saavy with OS X. I read that this may have something to do with the self heal feature and there were a few posts that talked about editing a SHInit.xml file. What if I just renamed that file? If it broke something, I could always rename it back – or uninstall/reinstall as a last resort.
I right-clicked on the Adobe Acrobat Pro.app and selected "Show Package Contents." In the Contents folder is the MacOS folder and in MacOS is the SHInit.xml file. I copied the file to my desktop and then renamed the file in the MacOS folder to something obvious: ##SHInit.xml.
Now, when I run Adobe Acrobat Pro.app, it loads without requiring a password.
If anyone has any burning reasons as to why and how this is dangerous, I'd be interested in hearing your feedback.

When I open adobe acrobat pro 9 and select the help button the help window opens but there is no table of contents and if I try to search for a topic nothing happens... Any help here?

Why barcode works in Adobe Acrobat Pro but become "grey" in Adboe Reader ?
I have created a form with barcode using Adobe Acrobat Pro with ONE field only and it works prefect.
However, the barcode area become grey if I using Adobe "Reader" to fill-in data! I have tried to increase the size of the barcode area but still don't work.
Can anyone help?

Issues with downloading Adobe Acrobat Pro
When I download Adobe Acrobat Pro I receive a message to "Shut down SafariNotifi". Without doing this the Adobe Acrobat Pro will not complete the install. I have shut down Safari, tuned off everything in the Norification Center and still get the message. If there a workaround for this issue?

Mavricks v Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
When installing my Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 I get and error and adobe have informed me that it is not compatible with Mavericks. Has anyone found a way around this problem without having to spend £200 upgrading acrobat?
Well you still upgraded to a new version of OS X, because the new machine is running a later version of OS X than your legacy machine. The next time you are buying a new machine look at your software library and ensure the apps you want are up-to-date.
If Acrobat Pro is the only app you are having difficulty with then you're lucky. You can also check in an Adobe Acrobat Pro forum to see if they have a version that supports Mavericks. Because I don't use Acrobat Pro (or any Adobe products) you may find your old version works in Mavericks but it may only need a minor update. -
I have adobe acrobat pro for windows and it is freezing up when I try to convert a word file to pdf... I have tried to get this done six ways from Sunday but it is just not working... help! Chris.
It would be helpful to know what version of Acrobat, WORD, and operating system.
Without that info, I would suggest at this point to open your WORD file and then go to the print menu and print to file using the Adobe PDF printer. Open the created file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, check to see if AcroTray is running in the background.
You say you tried many ways. It would help to know what you tried and what worked or did not work, and at what point the failure occurs.
