CS4 Custom Gradient

Has anyone else seen this? In CS4 Extended, when I create a custom gradient the dialog box OK & Cancel buttons become inactive & there is no way to get out of the dialog (and save the new gradient without saving to disk -- I just want it for this project, not saved, just to use).
Seems consistent -- don't know if it's a CS4 bug or just my system. I'd love to know if others can create custom gradients or not.

Just checked by the way & this only happens after a new gradient is created. When the dialog is first opened, before creating the new gradient, it closes just fine, but once there's an new gradient the buttons become inoperative...

  • Custom gradients that follow an object from start to finish?

    Hello,
I want to create special shapes, with custom gradients that follow the object from start to finish.
I manage to do this for a single line using an artwok pencil (see "Custom gradient" in image below), but not for a more complicated shape (see "The shape I want" in image below as an example)
Help would be very muh appreciated!
    Kind regards
    Pete

    Hello again,
I might be thick in the head, but I cant get this to work.
    1. When creating the art brush, should any special setting be made? I used the defaults
    These are my results:

  • Save a custom gradient map

I can't figure out how to save a custom gradient map using the gradient map tool(image>adjustments>gradient map).
So that I can use it on other images. Mac/CS6. I have tried countless times, but can't figure it out. What seems like it should work doesn't I can never find/load the custom gradient map I create.?

Select the Gradient tool from behind the Paint Bucket.
Click on the gradient in the Options bar to open the editor
Select any of the current presets to use as a template.
Edit to make your new preset.
Click on New and give it a name
Click on Save (if you want your gradient to load next time you open Photoshop)
Your new gradient will now be available from the drop down in the Gradient Map command.

  • InDesign CS4 - saved gradient got corrupted, file becames unreadable.

    Hi all.
I've just got the new CS4 suite a couple of days ago.
All is well installed, been working like crazy for almost 2 days straight, over CS2 files that I had before.
Then I started a brand new document (not imported from older versions), designed it, and it crashed after I've applyed a simple gradient to a frame.
After restarting InDesign CS4, it recovered the file, but the frame with the gradient was Black, and a warning appeared saying the file appears to be corrupted.
"Saving as..." with a new name didn't helped either, seems like every file saved from that one were corrupted.
Scanned the hard drive for bad sectors, all is ok.
The only solution I've got was to:
    open the corrupted file
    select what I could
    "copy" to memory
    close the file
create a new document with similar settings
    paste and adjust
start all over again for every page and layer
Can someone help, so this doesn't happen again?
Oh, and it also crashed again after creating some colors. On Windows Task Manager, the executable was still there, "eating" about 49% CPU.
Could this have something to do with multi-core? This machine has a dual-core, but others have quads. This is being run over Windows XP Professional SP3, 3Gb Ram.
I couldn't replicate the error yet.
    Kind regards,
    Bruno Mateus

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for the response. I think you nailed it. I had actually updated all the cross references that generated errors, but a few crept through (no errors generated) that referenced a paragraph in the document I copied from. I replaced these with the references in the current document and this solved it. The old document was also on a remote disk, so I'm sure this made matters worse. In addition, I found links to illustrator files on the remote disk. I also copied these files to the local disk and updated all the links (actually I did this first and it made very little difference, it was really the cross references that were the issue).
    Thanks,
    Anthony

  • Custom Gradient

    Mac OS 10.3.9, PSE 4.0
I have just spent three hours with the PSE Help learning about layers and
fills and while I've come a long way, I still cannot figure out how I create
    a custom-colored and custom-shaped gradient layer.
I have to use a regular layer, not a fill layer, right? Otherwise it
appears I can only select preset options.
Once I've created the layer and set my foreground and background colors, I
then choose a gradient mode and draw a line on the layer. Result: I get a
black/grey/white gradient. So the first question is, how do I get PSE to
    use my color choices?
Second problem: I would like to use an elliptical (not circular) radiant
gradient (cute :-). I was able to do this in a simpler application than
PSE, but I can't figure out how to do it here.
    Thanks,
    Beth

Well, so far I have learned that no one likes option C.  Otherwise the<br />results are split between options A and B.  Thanks to those who have voted<br />and I would really appreciate more feedback (explanation below):<br /><br /><a href=http://www.bethrosengard.com/PSE/PSEImages.html><br /><br />Beth<br /><br /><br />On 4/14/06 7:48 PM, in article C065AD1F.2C2FC%[email protected],<br />"[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote:<br /><br />> At the URL below, I've posted three images for each of two jewelry pieces <br />> one brooch with warm colors and the other with cool colors.  For the purpose<br />> of jurying into shows, all of my jewelry should be displayed on the same (at<br />> least very similar), neutral background.  Warm colors tend to look better on<br />> warmish backgrounds while cool colors do best on cooler backgrounds (at<br />> least in my experience).  So I had to find a compromise.<br />> <br />> The two sets of three images are lined up in two rows and you may need to<br />> expand your browser window to see them properly.  Each of the three columns<br />> shows a different piece on the same background (even though the "cool" row<br />> looks lighter because of the elliptical gradient).  Call them A, B, and C<br />> from left to right.<br />> <br />> I need to choose the background that best complements both the warm and cool<br />> jewelry pieces and which shows both (types of) pieces to best advantage.<br />> Since I see advantages and disadvantages to all, I would appreciate your<br />> input.  And if the results split all over the place, I guess I'll flip a<br />> coin :-).

  • Photoshop CS4 Custom Install

I have started using PS CS4, but am still at an early stage in the learning process  -  I do not know all its functionality, nor the modules that drive it.  I am about to install CS4 (for photo-editing only) on a new PC, and would prefer not to encumber it with unnecessary programs / modules.  I would like to do a custom installation, but I'm not sure whether I will need various modules (eg. Adobe Media Player) and supporting components (eg. Adobe Linguistics CS4).
Is there a source of guidance as to which modules are necessary for my particular needs?

For anyone unfamiliar with the program it is always advisable to do a default installation, above all in the default location.
There's not much that you can leave out as an option and you never know what you  might need eventually.
Disk space is cheap these days.

  • CS4 Custom Metadata Panels : "Generic" : Ability to display block of predefined text in panels ?

I am in the process of converting a number of CS3 custom metadata panels to the Adobe CS4 Suite using the "Generic" panel included with the current SDK. After reading though the documentation on the "Generic" panel, it seems that there is no easy way to define a block of predefined, non-editable text (a legal disclaimer for example) within a CS4 "Generic" panel.
Note that this is text that is not actually embedded into an image or editable, but rather a block of predefined text that simply displays within the panel itself.
When creating CS3 custom panels, a predefined text block was easily displayed using a combination of the "width:", "height:" and "static_text:" parameters.
Has anyone been able to replicate this using the CS4 "Generic" panel?
Thanks in advance for your time and effort...

    James,
Alternative: XMP FileInfo SDK page 40, the attribute description= displays static text as a mouse-over tooltip operation on a single field.
This applies to custom XMP properties in a custom namespace. The standard in-the-box XMP properties description= cannot be modified via a custom .xml schema definition as far as I can determine. (I tried, and mine were ignored.)

  • DW CS4 Custom Tags & Syntax Highlighting?

    Hi,
I already created a custom tag in the \Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\ThirdPartyTags\Tags.xml like this:
    <tagspec tag_name="mytag" tag_type="nonempty" render_contents="true" content_model="marker_model" start_string="(~" end_string="~)" detect_in_attribute="true" parse_attributes="false" icon="mytag.gif" icon_width="16" icon_height="15"></tagspec>
I read the instructions on 3rd party syntax highlighting here (Dreamweaver Help).
Whether I misunderstand something or it's not working.
    1) The help speaks of "View > Invisible Elements". In DW CS4 is no menu entry like this - if you mean the menu. However I think this entry is ment: "View > Visueal Aids > Invisible Elements". It's enabled by default.
    2) Under "Edit > Preferences > Highlighting" I activated the Third Party tags color.
I restarted Dreamweaver to be sure...but no code/tag is highlighted!
    Example HTML: (.html file)
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
         <title>Test</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <input name="(~ TEST ~)" type="text" class=(~ test2 ~) />
(~Something here ~) This is the first text.
    (~ Partly Input  <input name="dynamic"|VAR ~)
    </body>
    </html>
From my understanding, everything between the (~ ~) tags/delimiter (including them) should be colored in the 3rd party tag color or not? Also the  open INPUT tag with the name "dynamic" confuses the normal HTML syntax highlighting of DW.  I thought everything between my custom tags is kind of separated from the rest of the code? (the validator doesn't care either what's inside the custom tags).
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!

I thought everything between my custom tags is kind of separated from the rest of the code? (the validator doesn't care either what's inside the custom tags).
But it still goes looking for its own tags, which in your case simply isn't closed, hence the confusion.
I restarted Dreamweaver to be sure...but no code/tag is highlighted!
Are you sure the checkbox is ticked?

  • Flash CS4 Custom Skin URL Problem

Using Flash CS4, AS2 I'm attempting to load a Halo_Skin_3.swf skin in the FLVPlayback Component Inspector.
The default skins in CS4 are limited, but the  Halo_Skin_3.swf is available in DreamWeaver and I prefer this one.
The video plays fine using no skin or a Flash CS4 skin, but does not play if I insert Halo_Skin_3.swf in the URL text box.  This .SWF is located in root directory of the SWF I'm publishing, so the path isn't the problem.  Custome Skin URL is chosen in the skin drop down menu.
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong?  Is this feaure limited to AS3?
I know I'm behind the AS3 curve but I'm learning it in the background - not confident enough to utilize it yet.
    Thanks!

Yes, the design850.com is my site.
I have the swf movie file in the http://www.design850.com/herzog/ directory (and obviously the custom skin swf is in that directory as well).
I have tried it both ways of referencing the skin swf as just CustomBlackExternalPlaySeekMute.swf and http://www.design850.com/herzog/CustomBlackExternalPlaySeekMute.swf but neither work.

  • CS4- Selected Gradient changes on it own

I only use one gradient, foreground color to transparent. Yet, every time I go to use the gradient tool, there are solid colors in my gradient window and neither is the current foreground color. I don't know where CS4 is getting these colors from and I wish it would stop. If I selected the one style, it needs to stay on that gradient style until I select something else.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature-if it's a new feature I want to turn it off. It's getting the colors from somewhere instead of what I select.

I select my foreground to transparent gradient style from the top tool bar, and everything works as should. I can go from tool and tool and back and selected gradients style is the last selected gradient. However, new to CS4 ( I came from CS2) when I select ANY color in the blending options window, those colors then populate the gradient! So it's taking selected colors from a gradient done in the blending options window and making that my gradient selection for the gradient tool.
That is new and interrupts my work flow because I have to constantly select the gradient to transparent style whenever I select the gradient tool now. Before the gradient tool had it's own selected gradient style and was not pulling from the gradient done through the blending options window. It's very annoying.

  • Bug in InDesign CS4: Undoing Gradient Change Requires Extraneous Undo

Create a shape with a gradient fill.
With the shape selected, drag a color swatch to the gradient bar to add an color to the gradient. The gradient fill of the shape is appropriately updated.
Hit undo. The shape now inexplicably has a solid fill of the color of the swatch you previously added to the gradient.
An additional undo is required to get back to the original gradient.

This is highly unusual. InDesign continuously saves a backup on its own. It is not like autosave in QXP. You do something... it saves a backup. There isn't an autosave setting that you directly fiddle with.
Look at your Preferences > File Handling > Document Recovery Data to find the location where it saves a backup copy.
I think it may be possible that you have some OS issues like maybe permissions problems. Since you describe a new machine and a new install; maybe it was not well-oiled and broken in yet.
My chicken-soup approach is to run Disk Utilities > Repair Permissions. It couldn't hurt to try that. You weren't running the file at distance across a network, were you? While some have no problem with that; many will experience problems. I always strive to work on the local disk volume.
There is no reason to try to click on the .idlk file. That so-called Lock file is a network WebDav gadget that doesn't allow someone else to open the file you are working on. It is not an InDesign file. It is not your backup file, either.

  • Custom swatch, custom gradient?

    Hello,
What I want to seems simple, but I can't figure it out.
I have several objects each of which I have a corresponding value. I want the object to be color coded according to this value on a color scale. I can only figure out how to do it with a gradient between white and red, however I would like a gradient between blue -> white -> red, and the value will be some percentage on this scale where 100% will be red and and 0% will be blue. Is this possible? I see lots of stuff on gradients but it sets up a color gradient within the object.
    Any help would be awesome!
    Jordan

Perhaps this will work for you
I made three squares Blue White Red like such
Then I made a blend of the three and expanded the blend with smooth color  as the Blend Option, If you do specified steps you can better limit the number of colors
After I expanded the blend I left the art selected and went to Eidt>Edit Colors>Recolor Art if you look at the top left you see the color range that is being used to make the color group.
I then made a color group using the make color group icon on the top right
This will then show up in the swatches panel after clicking OK
What you get in the swatches panel not sure how you would label the swatches as percentages

  • Custom Gradient Effect

    Hi,
    How is this effect achieved...
    http://www.kitwilkins.com/Picture2.png
On the fading white circular shape, the gradient wraps around in a circle following its path giving the illusion of a fading "tail"
    How is this done?
    Anyone?

You can achieve the same effect with a blend.
Draw two rectangles, one black, one white
Go to Object > Blend > Make blend
Draw a circle, select the blend and the circle, and choose Object > Blend > Replace Spine
Using the scissors tool, cut the circle in one place
If it doesn't look right, check the orientation in Blend options that it is Align to path

  • Custom gradient stroke

    Hello
I was trying to get a gradient stroke to a text using the Photoshop Live Effects but it seems I can only set the gradient to be black/white
I would like to know how can I chage that
Below is what I did so far
Now I would like the cradient colors to be for example red and blue or to add 3 or more color to it!
    Is it possible?

A gradient you can't change isn't very useful, is it. Odd.
Well, I managed something much more complicated, but it will allow you to create a color gradient even if you want bold text.
It's a Fireworks .png, so you can copy it and open it up. Layer 2 is the visible result; Layer 1 has copies of the components so you can see them individually.
Start with three copies of the word "Text." The green one does not have the Photoshop Live Effects gradient stroke. For the other two, one has white text and one has black text. Make sure to copy and then not move any of the text elements. Turn off their visibility for working, because you need them to stay aligned.
For the one with black text, the gradient stroke is white on top. If we use this for a mask, we can create the gradient fade where the object is white, going to transparent where the object is black. I layered this over a blue rectangle then used the text object as a mask. (Select black text object with stroke and blue rectangle, then menu Modify > Mask > Group as Mask.) This gives me a fading blue outline at the top of the text.
To make a mask for the lower part of the gradient, we need that to be white, but it's black. Take the text object with the white text and invert it with menu Filters > Adjust Color > Invert. This will create a bitmap from the vector object, but it will work just fine. I took this bitmap and used it as a mask for a red rectangle. This gives me a fading red outline at the bottom of the text.
Pretty complex, but it gets the effect on bold text as well as any other shape you might apply the filter to.
Hmm. A fading blue outline over a straight red outline would probably work too! Just thought of that.
