CS4 Document Behavior

Upgrade from CS2 to CS4 Extended. How may I retain the document window behavior from CS2? Each new document opened in CS4 now fills the entire screen rather than floating. I cannot find a present to accomplish this.
Thanks
Gordon T

I'm also having trouble with this on all of the CS4 suite. I have the preferences to open documents as tabs switched off, but if I drag a file (from Windows Explorer) onto Photoshop, it still seems to open in tabs. Why did Adobe change it? Okay, tabs may be useful, but why not keep the "floating in windows" as the default.
I'm afraid I find most of the changes in CS4 a pain. They are slowing me down as I keep having to relearn how to do things - and most importantly - I don't think they add anything to the program. If I was more cynical, I might think these were cosmetic changes to justify the upgrade.

  • CS4 document in CS5: Text is underlayed yellow

    Hi,
when opening a CS4 document in CS5, some text is now underlayed yellow. Strangely, almost always just headings and not all words or even letters.
Can anyone tell me what this means and which settings are responsible for this?
    Thanks!

Just found the answer to my own question, and a resulting new question.
Preferences > Composition tab was a good tip.
If the "replace glyphs" box is checked AND the text uses CAPITAL LETTERS, either through a paragraph or character format or using the All Caps icon in the tool bar, the text is underlayed yellow. Sometimes all letters of all words, sometimes all letters except the first letter of a word...
Also, some combinations of letters in regular "Body" text are also underlayed yellow, e.g. letter combination "fi" or "fl" anywhere in a word. Changing the font does not make any difference.
This seems to me quite strange behavior... What is it supposed to mean? Are CAPITAL LETTERS or letters like "fi" or "fl"now glyphs? Is this "normal" CS5 behavior?

  • How can I use Flash_Slideshow.SWF in my Flash CS4 document?

    Hi,
I have downloaded a nice Flash Slide show file (.SWF) and would like to use in my Flash CS4 document without any modification (as it is). How can I use it? There is no .Fla file this Slide Show. It just works using xml file.
    Please do help.

    Hi,
You need to load a .swf file in your flash document using the loader class. I'm assuming you are using the AS3. Please click on the below link which helps you to use the loader class.

  • How to create a smallest file size pdf from indesign CS4 document

How to create a smallest file size pdf (suitable for upload to a website) from indesign CS4 document which contains multiple illustrator CS4 illustrations.
I have chosen the "smallest file size option" but the pdf file is over 30MB, can anyone help please.
    Thank you

    One trick is to
Set the placed graphics to have a transparency of 99.9% (you can do this with Find/Change and select Objects)
This is enough to force the graphics throught the Transparency Flattener
Next set the Transparency Blend Space to RGB (Edit>Transparency Blend Space)
Next set a custom Transparency Flattner Preset Edit>Transparency Flattner
    Next
    Use File>Export and choose
    Smallest file size
PDF Compatibility Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
In Advanced Section - go to transparency and selec the new Flattener Preset you created.
*this will convert your vectors to raster, but it should reduce your file size

  • Color issue in an InDesign CS4 document

Something strange is happening in an InDesign CS4 document: All of my my objects that use RGB color swatches appear darker (or grayer) in the document than the RGB swatches themselves. It might be that all of the objects are converting to CMYK and I'm not getting the true RGB colors within this document. Oddly, when I copy an object from this document – say, a simple shape with 100% color fill – into a new document, the object renders correctly with RGB in the new document. That makes me think I've got a universal setting within the original document that is converting my colors strangely. (Potential clue: In the new document, when I click on an RGB swatch, the Swatch Options box shows the Color Mode as RGB, making the color correct. In the original document, when I click on the same swatch color, the Color Mode says System (Macintosh). But when I switch it to RGB, I see a warning icon referring to Out of Gamut color, and when I click on the Gamut correction, it renders the RGB swatch as the off-color I'm trying to avoid.) Is there a universal setting change I should make in the original document so my colors render correctly on screen (I'm trying to use the Web Color Mode)? Thanks!

Brilliant, Peter, thank you. I wouldn't have figured that out on my own. Oddly, the Edit Menu settings had been modified and I had to search to even find the Transparency Blend Space menu. Once I did and reset the Menus, I could switch the CMYK to RGB (no idea how that got switched), and the colors are as they should be. Thanks so much!

  • When I try to open CS4 document in CS5 it is changing all my type to outline type???

Has anyone else experienced when you open a CS4 document in CS5 that it changes your formatted text into outline text?

    It shouldn't.
Maybe you should give us some more info...

  • Can snippets made in InDesign CS5 be placed in a CS4 document?

Can snippets made in InDesign CS5 be placed in a CS4 document?

Well, that is interesting, but I’m going to guess that the snippets are just a form of IDML so if that’s the case I guess it would make sense.

  • CS4 Document Presentation API

    Hello,
I started working with InDesign CS4 SDK, I am offen working with opening documents and manipulating with them a CS4 uses a new implementation of presentation documents called OWL. IWindow is not supported due to different representation of document windows.
I want to ask you about some problems:
    1) How could I get f.e. IControlView of a Document presentation to change position or size ?
    2) How could I hide a presentation without closing document, IWindow was easy to hide ?
Thank you for your advices, marxin

  • Colors look weird when printing CS4 document

    Hi
Migrating from InDesign CS2 to CS4 gives me a problem that I cannot solve.
I checked all possible settings with the program, the document and the printer but still it looks like a profile mismatch.
Colors are way undersaturated or dull and flat. It comes close to as if assigning a srgb profile to a Adobe profile embedded photo. Sort of double profiling.
In my old system here at the office (medical photography ), I use Tiger OS 10.4 with a G4 Mac,  everything was fine. I remember though it took some time to get it right at that time. Never change a winning team, but I have to move to a MacPro with Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.5. As the old but trusty G4 starts to behave unreliable. Other info:  images (jpg) have an Adobe 1998 RGB profile, that's also my working space, and I print on glossy A4 paper using a dedicated printing profile.
When I print the same pictures straight in Photoshop 4 or 5 they look fine. On the profiled Eizo screen both the .innd files as the Photoshop files look natural.
I tried all different settings. In CS2 the Printer Color Management has an option to put it Off. That was also my former setting. In CS4 there are two option 1. Color Sync 2. Epson Color Controls. Either one of these two don't make any difference.
Any help or suggestion is appreciated, as I have no clue.
    Thanks
    Kees

As a Windows user I didn't pay enough attention to recall the specifics, but I remember there was a period of time when the monitor profile was introduced during printing.

  • Problem with opening cs4 document in cs5.5

I have quite a big document of a catalog, created in InDesign cs4. It contains many layers and different master pages. When I open this document in cs5.5 layers and master pages get completely confused and the document looks completely different. When I created the inx-file in cs4 and opened it in cs3 everything was alright. Does anybody know what the problem in cs5.5 could the problem? Am I doing sth wrong?

I've been looking at the file, and it is indeed a puzzlement.
There is some good news, however. I don't know why it is happening (perhaps a bug, and maybe John would like to take a look at this, too), but it looks like the Paper-filled rectangle from Hinweise layer on the right of Master Ee is being copied to the left half of the actual document spreads on random layers. The pages that seem to be blank are easy to spot in the Page panel (22, 24, 26 & 32) and you can simply Cmd-Shift click on the rectangles on those pages to override and your text and graphics will be revealed. I'm not immediately picking up any other problems scanning quickly through the pages. For a quick and dirty get it done solution, I think this will work, though I would use the .inx file rather than the .indd for the conversion in CS5.5.
I've looked through the file history, and it is long. This started out in 2007 in CS2 and has gone through updates in CS3 and CS4, and been recovered from crashes at least 4 times (which might have something to do with the strangeness). I also think there are a lot of extraneous unused frames on many of the pages. If it were my project, I'd probably clean it up as much as possible in CS4, even going as far as recreating the master pages in a new document and then going page by page and doing a copy/paste in place of all non-master objects into the new file if you don't want to spend the time to place everythign again from scratch, which in my opinion would be a better idea (I tried moving the pages to a new file, but that didn't make any difference in the CS5.5 conversion). You could also rebuild from Scratch in CS5.5.

  • Can I create hyperlinked text in an Illustrator CS4 document?

I wish to create a tabloid (11x17) document that contains a number of hyperlinks. The document will be a 2-sided printout that shows clearly the hyperlinks. However, the links will obviously not work except in the electronically transmitted PDF - which should have working links.
In a previous search, I learned that older versions of Illustrator cannot do. However, can CS4 do this? If I must, I am happy to insert the links at the final stage - adding them to the finalized PDF with my copy of Acrobat Pro, but if possible I would like to do all my work in Illustrator.
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt Warren

Sadly, I don't have a copy of InDesign. I don't suppose there's an addon that does it.
In that event, I will have to add the links to the PDF via Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How do I save CS4 documents in CS5 without save as dialog?

At my college, they have CS4 (master suite) and at home I've got CS5 (design premium). I can save files in CS5 as CS4 so they can be read at college (by Flash) but I have to do it via the "save as" every time I save. After a couple of times, it get rather irritating. Is it possible for me to save in the usual way (as if it was a CS5 document) without the save as dialog every time I save my work?

I know that. Basically, every time I save, I need to do the following:
If I save as usual I get the following pop-up (see image)
So I have to open the "Save As" Dialog, save the file, I get the do you want to save over previous query and I'm done. I know this doesn't sound like much but it gets a bit frustrating to have to do that every time I want to save. Why can't I just do the usual Ctrl+S as this format and be done with it? I save quite a lot so as not to risk losing changes if Flash crashes.

  • [CS4] - Document window moving

Hello,    I am porting my Plug-in from CS3 to CS4 and I am solving problem how to move IDocumentPresentation which is Float() to [x,y] position.
    Thank you, marxin

From the Menu Bar (TOP) Try WINDOW>Application Frame (instead of Application Bar). Resize your "Frame" to your liking and when you create a new document the same size should come up.

  • Links broken in 10.4/CS2 to CS4 document conversion

We have a bunch of InDesign CS2 documents that are missing links when we open them in CS4.
When we open in CS2, the links work and are up to date.
If we launch CS4 on the same machine, some links are broken.
Using the link panel in CS4 the link looks like this: /Volumes/Server3-3/Path/To/File.jpg (Sometimes it's Server-1, Server-2, Server-3 - think it's a Mac OS X 10.4 bug where volume mount points are renamed?)
Anyone have any ideas on how to update without moving the links to the same folder, or updating manually? We are looking into moving all machines to ID CS4, but this needs to be resolved before we can move forward on this.
        Nate

No Illegal characters, just that some machines apparently had shares mounted with a -1, -2, or -3 when the links (images) were added. CS2 somehow resolved these (magically!:) but CS4 does not work the same... So now we have all these documents with multiple broken links inside them, and no real solution on how to fix them. Luckily we have not converted to CS4 yet.
It looks like I can export the CS2 doc as a INX file, open the xml and fix the links in a text editor, then re-open and save, but I don't know if this is a good idea, or the stability/repercussions of converting to INX and back to ind...
Need an expert.. I'm not it. :/
