CS4 - Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?

Production Suite CS4
Question: Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?
I have an Encore asset which is dynamically linked to a Premiere sequence. Do I need to render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding it in Encore i.e. is Premiere rendering necessary? Thanks in advance.

Adobe Encore technical support told me that Encore will not automatically render the Premiere sequence. You must manually render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding in Encore.

  • How does one manage these new render setting for previews?

I placed 4 HD clips from a nested into a sequence 5800 x 768 to mimic 4 side by side monitors for a multi channel video.  Each clip cut from the sequence are at 1280x720 all sitting side by side. However when I rendered the previews, they came look all squished. However when I exported the frame it looks fine in Photoshop. (I changed the uploaded image to what it looks like in Premiere in Photoshop to demonstrate the appearance in Premiere.)
I imagine that the distortion has to do with the sequence render setting which for some reason comes out to 1918 x 253...or the pixel aspect ratio? How does one manage these new render setting for previews so it looks normal in the monitor?

Either way, I thought that this format would be a great way to view on the monitor 4 channels at the same time. I may need to place them on a “normal” 1440 x 1080 sequence in a line, bringing them down to 25% scale to make it work in the end. I did just try that. I think it will work...but when I imported and nested the old file, the scratch disks changed from the original set up on a D drive back to the main hard drive so I had to change it agin. Otherwise it works fine...so I’ll go with this for now
These are the instructions I was given.I attched a screen save of the AE file they asked me to use (They must be on vacation, because I have not been able to get hold of them). I don't know After Effects very well:
“As you begin creating or adapting work for e4c, you may find an After Effects template developed for this system to be helpful. Attached you'll see a zipped file with two AE templates. There is some detailed information (below) from the artist that developed these for us. In addition, a few bits of information that might help you along are:
    ·        The "Watchout"  playback system can support WMV or a QuickTime files . We like .mov files with H.264 codec best!
    ·        The end resolution of the four screens is 5120 x 720 pixels (1280x720 each).
    ·        If works are four-channel, please provide a separate audio (aiff) file so it doesn't slow any one video down.”
    Thanks for your help!

  • Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Well, depends on what your CS5.5 actually is. If it came as a volume license, the upgrade terms would be determined by the specifics of the volume licensing model chosen... Anyway, that's way too specific. Contact sales support by phone or web chat to haggle things out.

DO NOT INSTALL MACKEEPER. It will corrupt your mac. http://themacfeed.com/2011/06/17/mackeeper-a-rather-slimy-tale/
You don't need any type of 3rd party software to be registered with Apple Support.

  • With the new premiere upgrade, does one need speedgrade

If you haven't watched the videos on the new Premiere, I suggest you do it. Most of the updates have to do with coloring, and it looks flat out amazing. I am still on trial and I came from Final Cut. I'm trying to decide to get the whole package for 50 a month or premiere for 20 a month. I already have the 10 dollar a month photoshop. This would save me 20 bucks a month. I am not going to use any of the other apps. I use Logic Pro for recording music, I wouldn't use audition. I am a photographer mostly but I know enough about video as a hobbyist in video to make it look halfway decent.
When I looked at the new features, I seen it has the lumetri scopes like speed grade, the same looking color wheels, film stocks, a panel similar to lightroom or speed grade when it comes to saturation and all of that, basically sliders.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links in this forum, but google it and watch the video on it. I realize there is a lot speed grade can do that still won't be in here. But for a basic person like me, that is using speed grade to just do basic grades, nothing technical, this appears to have everything I use in speed grade. I am amazed they put that much stuff in one update. It even has simple things, like the type of vignette you can do in lightroom.

I understand that, as in some may still need SpeedGrade for specific things, however, when looking at the new premiere, it seems those specific things would be complex things that I don't do. I'll give an example, if you see what Colorista iii  does, that's about as far as I know how to take color grading. It looks to me like the new premiere will have those features colorista has. Which is basically like Speed Grade but maybe not quite as complex.

  • Cineform - what is it ? why does one need it ? what am I missing ?

    Hello,
I am very puzzled with what Cineform is. I have been to their website, but they don't do a very good job at describing what Cineform is, or what it does, and why somebody would need it.
Could somebody who has a few moments, explain what Cineform is, and what it does, and how it make Premiere better ?
I just don't understand it at all, and I'm afraid I may be missing out on something important.
    Thank you,
    Dave.

Temporal compression is a way of making files smaller. Rather than storing all the data for every frame, you store only the data for the first frame, and then you store only the changes from frame 1 to frame 2, and then the changes between frame 2 and frame 3, etc. For any given second of video, 30 frames worth, only two are stored in full. All the rest only store the changes.
For news type programs, also called talking head shots, very little changes between frames, so this is a very good way to save space.
During a high action scene, a lot will change between frames, and it becomes more difficult to store the data using this method. This is why artifacts are created, errors during the encoding that do not allow a correct display of the video. This is also why a lot of professionals often prefer formats that do not create such artifacts in the source footage. Temporal compression is a good way of shrinking video for final display, but often causes issues when you use it to shoot the original scene.
It takes much processing power to restore those change related frames for display. Cineform takes the load off the processor by doing the work ahead of time. It converts the files before you import them, thus restoring the "change frames" to "full frames", making it very easy for Premiere to display them, and edit them.

  • Full GC for RMI Distributed Garbage Collection: when does one need it?

    Hi all,
as RMI DGC seems to initiate a full GC every minute (1.3.1_08 VM on Solaris), I guess that many
people resort to -XX:+DisableExplicitGC to get rid of those full GCs.
Now I wonder: why does RMI DGC call System.gc() anyway? Or, the other way round, when is it a bad
idea to disable those explicit GCs? What would a system look like where those explicit GCs are
    absolutely needed?
Thanks for any enlightenment on the subject,
    Jörg.

See here for an explanation of other properties you can set, plus a bit about leasing
and why a GC is needed. If you're not using remote objects from another server,
    you don't need it.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/rmi/sunrmiproperties.html
Note that a System.gc() doesn't always result in a full gc.

  • Hi! I'm wondering if there is a way to submit a list of cookies (i.e.: a list of 25+ sites at one time) to firefox so they may be blocked or does one need to submit each cookie individually to be blocked?

I have a list of cookies I would like to automatically block; it is a fairly lengthy list that I would rather submit in one go and block all of them if possibe rather then re-typing each one into the exception box. I am running Firefox 3.6.8 and I know how to make exceptions for each cookie individually and I find the freedom given to users is amazing in regards to blocking/allowing cookies- any feedback would be great, thankx!

This is a follow-up to the above question I had.
Since i noticed people looking at the question, but no replies showing up, i contacted BC support directly with the same question.
    I got a reply.
I did tests based on the reply.
Here is what is going on based on the reply.
(spoiler alert : It works... but it's not yet a perfect score.)
All the details are posted here :

  • HT2736 Does one need to have an iTunes Account (connected to their credit card) in order redeem gifted application?

I need to find out if I can send multiple apps in the form of gifts to people who do not have itunes accounts(connected to their credit cards).
    Is that possibile?
My goal would be to be able to send an app to someone who can then either right on their ipad or though itunes download the app without entering any credit card information or having to login to itunes.
    thanks

Glad this helped! You might want to check this article on Understanding Restrictions on the iPad: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213.

  • Sending my iphone 5 in for a repair and have done all of the instructions including the "erase all content and settings". The phone took me back to the basic set up menu, and now won't turn off. Does it need to be off before going in the box?

The repair it's going in for is the sleep/awake button not working. So im not sure if it's a matter of the button not working or the fact that the phone normally doesn't shut down when you're in the start up menu/setting up all your options (ex. language, country, etc..) Should i just put it in the box to send back with it turned on?

    Hi, kaboomer.
Thank you for the question.  You can send in your iPhone to our repair depot powered on.  We will proceed with evaluating your device once the unit is received.

  • App Store downloads - how many times does one need to restart download??

I am having a bit of an issue with AppStore, I purchased Rome Total War, granted a whopping 4 Gig download, however Apples infrastructure seems to be a bit on the weak side as the connection gets dropped on the server side.
Anyone else seeing that too? My DSL is fine otherwise, but it is very annoying to see that I can not get to the product I purchased for more than 24 hours now... I did expect a far better user experience from this.
    Thanks,
    Bernd

Yes I have apps installed on the SD card. Shifting them to the internal memory is not really an option (would leave very little free space over there which would then cause other problems). Besides, if the phone allows you to install the apps on the card, shouldn't they work from there? Yes, they should.
Without the card, there will be no custom apps and the phone would be almost useless (will turn into a basic device used to make calls and send text). To me, this is not an option. Also, I don't see how it would solve the problem automagically after some time.
The card doesn't seem to be faulty. I tried to connect the phone without the card inserted and it got connected alright for two times but the USB mode chooser froze the third time, just the same as with the card inserted. So a new card is probably not going to solve the problem.
Must be something strange happening here. Maybe it's due to the apps installed on the card rather than the internal memory, but I just cannot install all those apps within that limited space.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm waiting for more members' experience to come to any conclusion.

  • Does quicktime need to be installed for Encore to work

I have resisted installing quicktime, but today did finally attempt to download and install it. I haven't been successful so far for one reason or another, (it says thank you for downloading Quicktime, but a search of my computer doesn't show it anywhere)  and want to know -- Is it necessary to have Quicktime installed in order to use Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5? Is there something that doesn't function if it isn't there?

Thanks for the information. I have a couple follow up questions. I am using AVCHD video. When I export from Premiere Pro CS.5.5, I export to media. The summary section of the export window that opens up shows my source as 1920x1080. If I export it as AVI, that of course will go out as 720X480. I will then be bringing it back into Encore later to create my DVD. If I select the "Match Sequence settings" option, my output will, of course, be 1920X1080. This will create a MOV file to be brought into Encore, and as you have told me, will require the need to install Quicktime on my machine. I have a PC versus a Mac. From what I've been told, my final DVD authored in Encore, will be 720X480 pretty much no matter what settings I use to export it from Premiere Pro. Still, It seems logical that I should end up with a sharper image on my final DVD if I bring a 1920X1080 video file into encore to work with, versus bringing in a 720X480 file. First of all, am I correct in that assumption? Naturally I'm trying to get the best quality image I can with a 1 hour video file on a single side DVD.

  • Do I need to render before export?

Coming from the old video software, this was the case. However, now I have background rendering turned off. Do I need to manually render before I export the video, in order to get the color grades, transitions, etc? Or does export automatically render it for me?

    Never thought about that....
OK, for 'real time'-playback of such a scene
made of six green screens stapled together, you have to render.
… if you're using just one extHDD, connected via usb3... (we're on a small budget)
For scenes with less demand of computation power, like this…
    no rendering needed.....
(pics from one of our school projects…)
but habitual rendering...c'mon, fellas, seriously ??

  • How much XML/Java does one have to know?

I'm new to OA and I have a question. Besides Oracle and PL/SQL how much XML/Jave does one need to know in order to pick up this product. Does it get in your way if you don't know either? Can you get by with out it?
In other words where is that knowledge inportant?

I think this thread has been discussed so many times on this forum, always search old threads before raising new! One need core java knowledge along with pl/sql to start with OAF.
You definately don't need knowledge of xml here as it is generated automatically by Jdeveloper. If you have some knowledge of j2ee design pattern , it would be an added advantage, but basic knowledge of core java is sufficient to start with OAF.

  • What form does one export from FCE to get it into movie theater tape form?

If one is wildly enthused about one's documentary, and thinks it is what the world is waiting to see in theaters, how does one take it from FCE to...? Can one simply upload it to a miniDV camcorder, and then send it to some professional editing company to be put on tape? Is that even an option on FCE, or does one need the full Final Cut Studio? Does one need to shoot with a $2500 camcorder to get enough quality, or is it possible with a $1000 Canon camcorder?
Yeah, I feel silly asking, but am wondering how the pros do it. I have had Tom Wolsky's DVD "Final Cut Express HD Made Easy" for two weeks now, and it is going to my head.
    Hugh

I have a Canon HF100 which records 1920X1080 at 17MB/sec. I want to edit and upload to tape a documentary about a non-profit on whose Board I sit. I want to do it as a fund-raiser, but I have never met anyone who did that with this consumer level of camcorder. Maybe not possible.
