CS4 Dvd Menu Problem

Hi im not that great ant my cs4 master lol but i made a dvd menu and its saved as psd i imported as menu in encore but i cant select the buttons (+) play
(+) chapter "examples"   Whats wrong?

(+) play
(+) chapter "examples"
If that is just buttons, it will never work. The (+) is reserved for a button group, whereas the states of the buttons themsleves must be designated with (=1)(=2) and so on on the layers inside the button group.. As Silkrooster said, check the Encore forums and also re-read the help files.

  • Dvd menu problem

The dvd menus does not accept custom background images. I can place images in the dvd menu, but when the dvd is rendered all images are gone.
What is wrong with this software? This problem has been written by others, but it seems to be no solution to it.
My images are 720 * 576 pixels jpg.
I will be very happy if someone could give me a clue...

There were several Menu Sets in PrE 9, that did not work properly, when adding a custom background image. One valued contributor, A T Romano, did a full test, and listed each "problem" Menu Set. His report is in a thread, similar to yours on the Menu Sets.
It appears that Adobe corrected those Menu Sets in PrE 10, or at least I have not read of the issue with the latest version. I never did find out why some of those Library Menu Sets (they are just PSD's after all), did not work. It also seems that ATR found a workaround for those, but I cannot recall the details now. This is one of those THREADS, with ATR's comments, and there are several others too.

  • CS4: DVD encoding problem(s) Mpeg2 and avi

    Hi,
I have been trying to burn my video files to DVD. After a month of failures and 50+ wasted DVDs thrown in the garbage -- plus countless hours trying to learn the basics, reading the FAQs, trouble-shooting, and losing my patience awaiting technical replies from Adobe (which I now suspect will go unanswered) -- I am out of solutions and waving a white flag.
    Problem:
I have two video files. Both were created in Premiere Pro CS4 and exported via the Adobe Media Encoder as MPEG2-DVD high quality files (for NTSC) .
The first Mpeg2 file is 800 MB (41 mins); the other is 988 MB (50 mins).
I have placed the two files into a single timeline, with 21 chapter stops.
The only other file in the entire project is a PSD file for the Menu. It has two buttons, which link respectively to chapter stops 1 and 10.
    My results are failure-upon-failure...
    Primary question:
When I go to "Build" the DVD, it says the Encoded Size is 4.7 GB ~ same size as the DVD. This displays in the "Disc Info".
Similarly, when I open my "Timeline" properties for that single timeline, it says the duration is 1 hour 31 minutes - 4.7 GB.
Why is the disc a full 4.7 GB when the two video files (combined) are under 2 GB?
    Supplementary questions:
My "Flowchart" and "Property" links display the Menu, with the two button links in my Menu PSD connecting to the respective chapter stops.
There are no problems when I click "Check Project," and the project works perfectly in "Preview" mode.
But, when I attempt to test the burned DVD into different DVD players, the Menu doesn't appear and the play defaults to random chapters, then freezes. I can access the menu, but only after the play has started and/or frozen, and I have to do that by clicking the "Menu" button on my DVD remotes. And again, when I hit play on either of the buttons on the main menu, the video files will freeze, which means burning & testing each disc sometimes takes an hour per.
    Does anybody have a solution?
I have read and watched several tutorials, to no avail. I have tried burning the Project using large Mpeg files as well as medium Mpeg files, both encoded with 1-Pass VBR, 2-pass VBR, CBR. I have tried widescreen and normal.
I have also tried using AVI files. The two AVI files are respectively 41 mins @ 1536 kbps 720x480 8.68GB; and 50 mins @ 1536 kbps 720x480 10.6GB.
Together, those two AVI files are 19+ GB, which would require 5 DVDs.
What am I doing wrong? What should I be using to burn DVDs - Mpeg-2 or Avis?
When I export from Premiere Pro/Adobe Media Encoder, whould I be exporting as Mpeg2 files or Mpeg2-DVD?
Is it possible that Encore automatically expand and/or compress files, so that the 19GB avi is compressed to 4.7 GB DVD; and the 1.8 GB Mpeg2 "expands" to 4.7 GB?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this project has caused me numerous delays and ruined deadlines and soured me even more on Adobe's video editing product and their truly-awful customer support.
    Thank you

As far as the use of premiere pro CS4 with Encore Cs4, do not bother to pre transcode your material.  Let Encore do this for you.  Leave your files in the original format which I assume was AVI.  Instead import your Premiere Pro sequence directly from the project (or export it from Premiere Pro it to encore).   As you quessed Encore will try and expand/compress your files for the DVD you are making.
Encore by default trys to transcode for the best quality that will fit onto the media you specify which is why it is setting the output to 4.7 rather than the file size of the video.
You were not specific enough about the nature of the failed copies.  One thing to do is to always try testing your project from your first menu to see that it behaves correctly.  If you don't want your DVD to start playing automatically make sure you set it to open the Top Menu.  Then try a test either to your hard drive (if you can), or to a RW DVD.

  • Toast 7 DVD menu problem

When I create a DVD with a menu using Toast 7, it works perfectly on several DVD players, but not on my LG DR7800 DVD recorder. It plays OK, but there's no indicator on the menu to show which item you're currently highlighting. You have to navigate in the dark. Once again, these discs work perfectly well on other DVD players - it's only on the LG DVD recorder this problem occurs. Can anyone shed any light on it?
PS: LG's customer 'support' department have abandoned me. It seems any problem they can't immediately recognise is answered with "we can't help you". Rest assured I won't buy their goods again...

Not every DVD set top player works identically or as well with DVD recordable technology.
It's simple the nature of recordable discs.
You are trying to play a disc on a LG that is primarily designed to record.

just my thought, why don't you remove it from the table? That might be the cause. Try to think of an alternative way like using divs and css.

However when i goto scene selection for the same movie (the scene selection menu is accessed via a button on the main menu) and choose a chapter then i press root menu it takes me back to the chapter menu. i want root menu to goto the main menu after choosing a chapter from the scene selection menu. please help

    Sure you can.
Go to the Build tab, or go to the Flowchart tab and select the disc icon.  The Properties panel for the disc will become available and you can set the Title remote function from there.

  • Premiere Elements 13 problem with DVD menu templates

I recently purchased Premiere Elements 13 for my iMac.  It crashes every time I attempt to add a DVD menu template to my project.  Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

I just uninstalled and then re-installed Premiere Elements.  When I opened the program, I clicked on Movie Menus from the Tools menu.  There were blue bands on the menu thumbnails and I right-clicked on one and selected "download all."  P.E. let me know that the files would need 2.5 GB of space and I told it to go ahead and download the files.  The download was going fine and it downloaded all 2.5 GB of data.  I could see the blue bands disappear from the thumbnails as the download progressed.  When the downloading process was over the progress window disappeared.  I saw the rainbow colored pinwheel spin around for several seconds and then the program crashed.  The next thing I saw was a "Crash Report" with several lines of "computerese" and the message that it would be sent to Apple.  I clicked OK and in a second or two a window from Adobe appeared asking me if I wanted to restart the program and send the crash report to Adobe.  There was also an option for me to ask Adobe to send me feedback or tips for a workaround or solution to the problem and what came back was the message that Adobe had no workaround or solution to my problem.  For each of the previous times the program crashed, I have seen all of these windows that I just described.
One other thing:  when I re-opened Premiere Elements after the crash, I looked at the movie menu thumbnails and the blue bands were not there any more.  So it seems as though Premiere Elements "thinks" they have been downloaded.  If so, where are they and how do I use them?  And how do I prevent the program from crashing?
Feel free to ask me any questions you want to, especially if they will help solve this problem.  One reason I bought this program is that I want to make DVDs with menus and chapter selection buttons.  I have been using iDVD, but Apple no longer supports it, and it does have a few bugs I have had to work around.  I also have DVD Studio Pro, which came with Final Cut Studio a few years ago (before Final Cut Pro X) but it is not very user friendly.  I also have Final Cut Pro X, which has the option of authoring DVDs, but doesn't have the DVD menu template options that are in iDVD and DVD Studio Pro.
Thanks for your attention and help.

  • Re: Elements 9..........Web DVD.....Disc menu problem...

I'm trying to create a disc menu that includes a still image on the title screen . I browse and select the required jpg and it duly appears as expected on the selected menu. I preview the webDVD and all is as I wish it to be....However, when I finish/save the webDVD and then view the result the still image does not appear...just the original default look . What am I doing wrong ?..........

I've just tested it and, yes, it is one of the problem ones. If you especially wanted to use that template you would need to edit the templates in Photoshop Elements. http://muvipix.com has instructions on how to do this (in the subscribers area). • Sudden menu problem in CS4:  Running OS10 Mavericks. Anyone got a clue?

Cannot keep history and layers windows open simultaneously. Others likewise. By sudden I mean, one day it's fine, the next there's a menu problem. Assistance appreciated.

If you have placed your layout the way you want it, use the Save Workspace, give it a name, and only check Palette location in the Save dialog.
Then switch to another Workspace and back to your saved workspace to see if that fixes the problem.
Last resort is to reset Prefs. Hold down ctrl-alt-shift, start Photoshop and agree to the reset.

  • DVD Menu with Two or More Highlights per Button

I have created a DVD Main Menu in Photoshop CS4 Extended for Premiere Elements 4 as well as editing an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Main Menu in Photoshop Elements 6 and run into the same following highlighting problem:
The design of each menu button is such that there is in its Group:
    a. the (%) video for the thumbnail of the video (4:3 solid color block)
    b. frame to go around the thumbnail
    c. Text to go under the framed thumbnail
When I roll the cursor over the button, I want the frame as well as the text to be highlighted. I can achieve one or the other, but not both. I use (=1) for the Text highlight and (=2) for the frame frame, but, no matter what combination or arrangement of layers/layer sets/codes, the result is the same, one or the other (using =1), but not both (using =1 and =2).
Although an Encore DVD Menu creation tutorial suggests that the code species (=2) exists, I have yet to find an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Menu where both the frame and the text underneath the frame is highlighted at the same time when the cursor is rolled over the button (showing the =1 and =2 codes or anything else)
I would appreciate any comments on whether I am looking for something that is not possible OR whether I have just not figured out the how to answer.

    Hunt,
When you create your DVD menus with Photoshop and Encore as described, can these menus be loaded into Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements and do these menus work in Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements?
If I cannot go the (=2) highlight route, I have thought about creating a text layer (for the title under the thumbnail), simplifying (rasterizing it), then adding a the frame to that layer, and then coding the layer (=1) highlight. But, I have not done that yet.
    SG
Did you really mean ...., named (%) Highlight....in your suggestions or did you mean (=1). I have been through all the how tos and have a good handle on the conventions, except for this one point.
Thank you both. In the final analysis, at this point it is more a "why can't I" instead of "I have to have that dual highlight" to make the effect work. Thank you both for your inputs and am heading back to the programs to explore your helpful suggestions.

  • DVD menu in Adobe Premiere

Any one know how to make DVD menu in Adobe Premiere? Only a simple DVD menu is enought.  Really appriciate your help. Thanks

I used the CS2 quick DVD for review projects.  But it is easy to accomplish this in CS3 and even easier in CS4 and CS5 (where you have dynamic link to  Encore).
From Premiere CS4 with your desired sequence active, pick Fiile -> Adobe Dynamic Link -> Send to Encore.
This will open that sequence as a timeline in Encore and will make it first play.  The simplest version is to set the end action of the timeline to "stop," set the transcode (probably the default) to automatic, and it will create a DVD with no menu that plays your movie.
If you want to add a simple menu, take a main (not a submenu) from the library and double click it.  Remove all but one of the buttons.  Link the button to your timeline, right click on the menu and make it "first play," and make the end action of your timeline "return to last menu."
Yes, it can become complicated very quickly, but simple menus should not be too difficult.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - unable to select a "poster frame" for DVD Menu - Scene Selection

I've tried a number of different DVD menu themes and the problem is the same for all.  The Scene Selections don't seem to provide any way to include a graphic for the poster frame.  Have been able to provide a menu background with no problem.  Interestingly, the poster frame section of the menu edit fields appears to be somewhat truncated (the spot where you would expect the "drag media here" shows only the bottom portion of a box with no wording and the input is truncated at 00;00;0 with the fifth zero partially cut off.
Any one else seen this?  I know I've provided graphics for the scene buttons in the past but cannot seem to get past this situation this time.
    Thanks

In Adobe Encore (the authoring program, included with PrPro), one can set the Poster Frame for non-Motion Thumbnails.
For showing a different Clip, in Motion Thumbnails, one must create Menus, that have a Video background, that just looks like it has Motion Thumbnails - they are actually PiP in the Video background.
I do not know about the often touted Sony DVD Architect, regarding setting Poster Frames.
PrE's authoring control is a bit limited, and is designed to get the "average" Project authored, with few navigational bells and whistles.

  • DVD Menu distorted on playback and finished copy

The last several projects I have worked on in Premiere Elements 9 seem to have an issue with the DVD Menu being distorted on preview and playback as well as when I burn them to DVD .  I noticed it several months ago on a short 20 minute video.  The DVD Menu was distorted, fuzzy and the titles were barely legible.  The video itself was just fine.  It was a standard play DVD … nothing special.
On the next project with the above in mind, I checked the Project Settings and all looked as it should.  I started editing and noticed playback was different when viewing clips in the timeline.  While playing the clip, the video and graphics looked fuzzy until I stopped the playback.  Then the image instantly sharpened and looked as good as I expected.  I continued editing assuming I never noticed the difference in this before.  I am still not sure whether this problem is related to the DVD Menu or not.  Anyway, I created the DVD menu and AGAIN, the DVD Menu looked fine until it is previewed or played back.  I even burned a copy to disc and the DVD Menu still looks as distorted and unclear as it does in the preview window.
This is the DVD Menu and honestly it looks worse than this screen shot improves upon it.
I would appreciate if anyone can provide some guidance on what the project settings should be or maybe the playback settings.  I am using a PC with a 64-bit processor with Win 7 O/S and 4 GB of RAM.
If there are any other questions I need to answer, please ask them and I will provide a response as soon as possible.
Thanks again for any assistance provided.

So apparently the screen shots I posted in my two posts did not get added.

  • DVD Menu Transition Effects

I have successfully created a motion graphic DVD menu in AE, which I have rendered to be authored in Encore. The theme is horror/thriller with thriller theme for the BG music. There are two(2) selecitons on the main menu:
    Play Movie         Bonus Features
When the user chooses Play Movie, I would like a transition effect leading to the main video to be played. And maybe a different transition effect when the user selects Bonus Features before getting into the submenu of bonus features.
Can anyone sugguest any resources (e.g., books, manuals, blogs, video resources, courses, etc.) that can provide a tutorial on how to perform the procedure(s) in AE and EN?
Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

The ones I am seeing are not for transitions specifically - quite a few bad links. And the ones I see may be for older versions.

  • DVD Menu/motion background issue

Every time I try to add a motion background to my DVD menu, the photoshop menu gets stretched horizontally. It looks fine when you add the video but when you preview and render it or burn it to DVD it stretches the menu. see screen shot.

Your menu shows as 1080x720; you say this is for DVD, but size would be wrong for DVD or Bluray.
Yes, you can get away with a variety of sizes; Encore will eventually transcode the menu to the project defaults. But using odd menu sizes makes problems more likely.
Make the menu itself the correct size. (Start with a library template for the project type - HD vs SD, standard vs wide.) Bring in a motion menu asset that is also the correct size. Don't  let Encore do any resizing of those assets.
