CS4 Dynamic link to AE - all links point to one comp

I know there have been lots of issues with the Dynamic Link and encoding, but I have a new one (for me at least).
I have a project with a lot of sequences, all of which use different green screen clips. All the green screen clips had been sent replaced with an AE comp, where I used AE and Keylight to ket the clips. I had everything all perfect and then this happened:
All my linked clips that came from AE all pointed to ONE AE comp. During the process of editing, I had created several different AE files that each had 2-3 different comps, but regardles of which .aep file the comp is in, the dynamic link still points to the same comp in a different .aep file.
I even tried to import an new AE comp, but every .aep file I point at, in the open comp dialog window, seems to only have one comp, the same one that the existing linked files are pointing to.
Any ideas on A: How to fix this and B: What caused this?
Oh yeah, I'm on a Mac and CS4 MAster Collection, all updated to the latest versions.
Thanks!

Hi Curt, and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Its odd how I've been trying to figure this one out for a long time and I tried your suggestion but it didn't make any difference..darn.
In the AE forum they say this is quite common and no one really knows why...double darn.
So I went back with a fresh mind this morning and tried something else..and it worked...so far anyway.
So far I figured it out... I guess I just needed to ask the question and write it all out to help get my brain working in the right direction:
Since the normal process to do this doesn't work for me ..and apparently many others..here is the solution for those of you having similar issues.
In PremPro select the desired clip you wish to place effects on
Rename it and save
R click and "Replace with AE composition"
Name new file
You will see three files pop up in AE in the project panel.
The original source clip .. in my case.. shows an icon that lets me know it isn't the true file.
Highlight this file with a click and then go Ctrl H (for PCs)
The group of computer source clips you use for your project will come up.. double click on the original clip you had imported into your PPro project.
The source file icon in AE will change to an icon that denotes the true file...save
Go to your still open Ppro project and make sure it carried the effects over..save.
Now you can save and close the AE project.
So for this works for me today and I hope this helps anyone else dealing with a similar issue.
Thanks.

  • CS4 Dynamic Link Problem

Is anybody having trouble keeping the source files linked in After Effects after using dynamic link from Premiere?
    Please refer to this link:

    This is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your time!

Did some more tests and here is what does and doesn't work for me.
    Losing footage -
Yes I was having the issue (and the topic is in the premiere forum also)
Here is what seems to solve it.
It loses the footage if I use the original folder which has spaces in the name. Not sure if that is the culprit but both methods proved consistent in every test I did.
it worked when I used a new folder called "Test" at the root of my editing drive.
    Crashing-
Not sure if other have the issue but when I close AE, PPro will just sit there with an hour glass and show as not responding.
If I close PPro first and then AE and reopen PPro then all seems to work as it is supposed to.
This was also consistent in every test I did.

  • CS4 Dynamic Link practically useless

    Hi!
I'm pretty pissed at the moment but I'll try to behave.
I just purchased Production Premium CS4 and mainly because of the "improved" Dynamic Link features between AE and Premiere. What a huge disappointment:
When I replace Premiere footage with an AE composition, it is almost impossible to preview that composition in Premiere. The playback is very jerky and jumps all over the place. In AE everything previews just fine, but when I go back to premiere to see my clip with the rest of the movie, the preview is just horrible. In CS3 I had to render the imported AE comps out in Premiere before I could watch them properly. But now in CS4 it wont let me render them: when I hit enter in Premiere the clip just starts playing straight a way without any rendering at all, and the result is some very jerky video playback. However, the render line in Premiere timeline is green (not red) and Premiere doesn't seem to think it needs to render anything.
I use vista ultimate 64-bit, with 8 gb RAM and an intel quad core processor. Is there anything I can do to solve this or do I have abandon using Dynamic Link in CS4? :(

I feel your pain man, though I think our issues with DL are different.
My problem is that Premiere won't render the DL from AE, but tries to play it back without rendering, with some very very poor results.
I just tested it on a totally fresh project: first I imported a clip (dvc pro hd) on to the new premiere project, then I put it on the timeline and chose "replace with after effects composition). Got the clip in AE and put keylight on it to pull a chroma key out of it. Then went back to Premiere to see the keyed footage with a bright green render line on the timeline: Premiere doesn't try to render the comp even though it can't handle playing it in any way! What on earth could be the issue in here?

  • PP CS4 Dynamic Link-Fehler & Projekt verloren?

    Hallo,
Danke.

I'm pretty sure there's chroma keyer in your version of Premiere, and if you've tried using it you know 1) it's not all that great and 2) you have to do each clip separately.  The same thing applies in AE, but Keylight is much better.
I've never had to fool around with Dynamic Link -- I cut in Final Cut Pro, you see -- so I'm unfamiliar with the process of moving from Premiere to AE.  Again, I'm pretty sure you can import the Premiere project, and it comes in as an AE comp.  And then you'd use Keylight on the individual clips.  That's a good thing, too: since exposures and lighting conditions are rarely the same from shot to shot, you get the right key for the shot, rather than keying everything at once, meeting with varying degrees of success.
    There isn't a whole lot that's automatic in pulling a good-looking key, I fear.
And since I'm typing, I'm going to crab a bit... it's time for a rant!
What on God's Green Earth is going on with this web site?  This is the fourth stinkin' time today I've had to log in just to post a messsage... and the second time I've had to do it to post this particular message!  Geez, talk about inconvenient!  It sure makes me feel like I'm welcome around here.
The next time I get one of those surveys from the idiot company that runs Adobe's web site, I'm going to let those geniuses have it with both barrels.  They'd have a tough time finding a certain part of the anatomy above the legs and below the back in the dark using both hands.  They're giving Adobe a bad name in my book.
There.  Now I'm down off my soapbox.

  • Premiere and After Effects CS4 Dynamic Link "glitches"

I am no longer able to use dynamic link when I try to link to multiple AE compositions from Premiere.
What happens is, when playing the sequence back in premiere, there are random frames in the dynamic link clip that are out of order. For example if I have two compositions, A and B, each 1 second, and they are in my Premiere project, the playback might do something crazy like this:
    Should be (frames):
    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
    Really:
    AAABAAAAAAAAAABBAAAAAAAABBABABABABBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
I'm not sure if there is any pattern to it, but dynamic link is just not working. I thought this might be a preview issue, so I tried rendering it and I got the same incorrect sequence as the preview. I've tried things like removing and adding the compositions again, or deleting the media cache, but this always randomly comes up.
My only option has been to export in AE (and when doing uncompressed that can use a lot of disk space).
Any ideas as to how to solve this? Or is dynamic link just a broken feature?

Well that was stupid. I had to rename the compositions (they were created from Premiere so the automatic names had a trailing number). Then I had to reimport the comps and place them over the old broken ones (clearing the cache didn't seem to help with those).
After replacing with comps without numbers and clearing all of the caches, it seems to be working so far.
I can't believe this bug even exists. Especially when the "Replace with After Effects composition" will repro the bugs. Sounds like poor testing on Adobe's part.
At the very least this should be documented somewhere officially. I was able to find this post on the web after looking up this specific issue: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/adobe_dynamic_link_troubleshooting.html

  • Adobe pr pro cs4 dynamic link to Encore cs4: updating changes made to pr pro timeline

Recently I did a project in adobe pr pro cs4 and exported it to encore through adobe dynamic link to create a DVD. When I saw some mistakes, I went in pr pro and corrected them. It automatically updated the chages in encore. Finally, I created my DVD and burned it. Next day, I saw a minor spelling mistake so I opened pr pro and encore separately but any corrections I did in pr pro did not updated in encore!  What is a better way to correct this as I do not want recreate the whole DVD project again by sending it again through adobe dynamic link?

You have to go into Encore and select Revert to Original for your Linked timeline.  Any changes made after transcoding won't show up without reverting.  And yes, that means you have to transcode again.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 dynamic link to Encore CS4

I'm a newbe and I have a fundamental question about the Premiere Encore workflow. When I edit a project in Premier and I use the File>Dynamic Link>Send to Encore command, I get "Start New Project" from Encore. How do I update the edits I did in Premiere to a current project in Encore? Is there a way to Dynamic Link Premeire edits while I'm in Encore?

I have the exact same problem. I linked them together, but when I made the change in Premier Pro, the changes did not update in Encore. Everything
I read and watch on Adobe says it will happen automatically, but I'm not seeing it happen. Is there any way to replace an existing timeline in Encore with its updated sequence in Premier?

  • Prem. Pro to After Effects Dynamic Link Results in Empty Comp

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a setting that I've screwed up, but since the last CC update, whenever I right click a clip or group of clips in a PP timeline and choose "replace with After Effects Composition," I am getting a blank comp and no files imported into After Effects. The dynamically linked project DOES show up inside of Premiere, so we're ok from that end.
Before anyone redirects me, I found a similar post to this previously, but the issue seemed to be different than the problem I'm having and I have tried the suggested fix in that post, anyway, with no luck.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help!

Yes. It turned out that when I last updated my creative cloud, one of the two programs had not completed updating to the newest version (I forget whether it was Premiere or After Effects). After I ran a complete update for both programs and restarted the computer, the problem was solved. Hope this helps!

  • Premier Pro CC 2014 (just downloaded and installed) and After Effects dynamic link results in empty comp

    Help!
I have seen one other question about this problem without a resolution.  If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
I have followed the instructions on Adobe.com both the written version and in a video tutorial.  I right click on a clip and choose 'replace with After Effects composition'. After Effects opens and asks me to save and name the new project: all good.  Then the project opens and there is no clip in the composition or the project pane - just the composition itself.  Switch back over to PP and the clip is referencing the AE comp - but is blank.
Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong? In the video tutorial and written instructions it seems to just work.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro: Adobe Dynamic Link requires Adobe Production Premium?

    Hi all!
We upgraded for some while ago from CS4 to CS5, but forgot to remove CS4 in the thrill of exploring CS5. It's two computers with Master Collection, but the problem I'm going to tell you about is only occuring on one of the computers.
We uninstalled CS4 from Computer 1. And after the unistallation of CS4, Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore won't work.
Computer 2 has still CS4 installed, and the Dynamic Link works on that workstation.
These computers are both Win 7 64 bit.
How do I fix this? The Dynamic was such a nice part of the worklow.
Any updates that were recently published or any fixes or workaround. Cause we have tried to unistall and reinstall and unistall and reinstall and even ran the Clean Tool a few times.
    Thanks for any help

    HII!
Unistalled everything, from CS5, to Adobe player to Flash and ran the cleanupscript some times and ran CCleaner on the registry. After 6 reboots, I installed CS5 again, downloaded all updates and now it works!
    Thanks for the help guys!

  • Dynamic Linking Frustrations

I don't know if I'm just not getting it, or dynamic linking is something that's only going to work great in CS6.  I can't get it to work flawlessly.  It's always something.
It does seem to work FLAWLESSLY from AI or PS to After Effects.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!    But that's where my love ends.
From AE to Premiere I'm experiencing a lot of problems.
Just as a simple example, I have a very simple motion tracking clip in AE with text coming out from "behind" a tree.  (http://www.vimeo.com/18168346  at 0:57 "Have a nice trip").  It looks great in AE, renders out just fine.  But when I dynamically link the AEP project into premiere, it gets all choppy and you can see my mask on the tree moving all around.  So I go back to AE to see if I bumped the frame rate to 24p from 30p or something, but no.  Settings are the same (29.97p) in both AE and PP.
Any AE project that is more complicated than a simple text flying onto the screen seems to bring PP to a standstill and I can't play it back real time; it turns real choppy.  Anything complicated won't play back at all, even if I force a render.  So I'm forced to render it out as a MOV file from AE, and then import it into PP.... which totally defeats the purpose of the dynamic linking that I so much like to throw in the face of the Final Cutters.  I never tell them that I actually have to do the same thing they do since dynamic linking only works on the most basic of things.
Dynamic linking from Premiere to Encore simply doesn't work when importing more than one Premiere project.  Has ANYONE out there ever got it work on more than one project?  I'm not talking about a 2-hour long movie.  I'm talking about importing 6 5-minute Premiere projects/sequences into an Encore project.  I get PProHeadless.exe errors left and right.  Then if I can actually make it past my build of 6 projects, if I save it and reopen the project, it never, ever, ever EVER opens back up.  I get error messages galore and I have to rebuild the project.
I have 3 $4000-6000 monster computers--all different brands.  Liquid cooled, i7-980x processors, 24 GB ram, NVidia MPE cards, etc.  Dynamic linking on Encore/PP doesn't work on any of them.  PERIOD.
Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I am so frustrated with CS5 right now my head is spinning.   I've been using Premiere for 8+ years.  The concept of dynamic linking is AWESOME!   Linking simple things like PSDs IS IN FACT incredible!  But doing anything beyond that doesn't seem to have any advantages unless you don't need to watch it played back in the time line.  But who in their right mind drops something to the timeline without actually watching it?
Not sure what the purpose of this message even is.  I'm an Adobe fanboy and LOVE everything Adobe, but I'm very frustrated with the whole "Dynamic Linking" in practice.  I haven't found it a viable option.
HUGE HUGE potential, but falls FAR short!
What's the purpose of being able to dynamically link an After Effects comp into Premiere if you can't actually WATCH it play back in real time?
Maybe I've got the whole thing backwards in my head, but for our team, WORKING dynamic linking is a feature request we'd like to see in CS6.

Dynamic linking from Premiere to Encore simply doesn't work when importing more than one Premiere project.  Has ANYONE out there ever got it work on more than one project?
I am feeding it fairly simple sequences, and still SD, but I am seeing none of the problems you report.  Recent Encore project had a combination of imported avi, imported m2v, and about 10 or more dynamically linked PR sequences from 8 PR projects.  Changes made to several of the PR sequences updated with no problem.  I did have one PR sequence that seemed to hang up when opening the Encore project.  The workaround was to open that one PR project before opening Encore.  I did not worry about it too much, because this was a transition project, and some of the PR projects started as CS3 or CS4.  (You do have to open in CS5 and save as for DL to work.)
I have 3 $4000-6000 monster computers--all different brands.  Liquid cooled, i7-980x processors, 24 GB ram, NVidia MPE cards, etc.  Dynamic linking on Encore/PP doesn't work on any of them.  PERIOD.
I have a i7 930 and only 6G of ram.  My budget build to move to Win7 and CS5 (for SD).

  • Adobe dynamic link - ACROSS multiple boxes on one LAN?

Looking for help using ADOBE DYNAMIC LINK - But not one machine but between 2 different machines on one network - one AE, one Premiere CC: We need to be able to at least move between different motion graphics and editing machines.
I want the animator to stick her file on the server - i put it in the timeline - it needs work - she changes the file - keeps the same name - and it refreshes and updates.
To me - it is what Adobe is offering about working in the cloud, just is just a local cloud - so it should work?
This post DOES NOT cover our need but i assume it IS possible?
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/dynamic-link.html
    Thanks.

No, Dynamic Link does not work between multiple computers.

  • AE/Pr dynamic link issues: lost links, slow renders

I use dynamic links to scoot AE comps into Pr timelines quite a bit. I like the feature because: a) inevitably a lot of tweaking and revising of comps tends to go on, b) it saves disk space and file management, c) it is easily adjustable from within Pr (right click > edit original).
Lately however, I've noticed some misbehaviour in my beloved dynamic links. When both Pr and AE are open Pr is slow to render the AE dynamic links. Like, really slow. 5 - 10 seconds per frame of basic CC and masking in AE. When I close AE the renders speed right up to what I would call 'normal' speed. A couple of frames a second. The only problem is when I close AE while Pr is open, Pr loses it's dynamic links. They appear offline the moment AE closes and to continue working with them have to relink, or if I save and exit Pr and reopen the dynamic links magically appear linked again. Any idea what is going on and more importantly how to fix it?
Vital stats as follows: OSX 10.9.1, AE 12.2.0.52, Pr 7.2.1 (4). Material AVCHD native, with matching timeline settings.

If you think something doesn't work the way you think it should, filing a feature request is a good way to push it towards happening.
Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
I'd suggest posting over on the AE forum for the AE people to look at the rest of it.

  • When computer boots I get error box stating "The procedure entry point _NSConcreteStackBlock could not be located in the dynamic link libray CoreFoundation.dll".  I have removed iTunes and all of it's components several times and re-loaded programs.

When I boot my computer I get error box stating "The procedure entry point _NSConcreteStackBlock could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreFoundation.dll.  I have completely removed iTunes and related programs and reinstalled them several times.  Doesn't fix the issue.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

You should have one copy of CoreFoundation.dll in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple Application Support or C:\Program Files (x68)\Common Files\Apple Application Support if this is a 64-bit Windows.
The detailed file properties should be as shown.
If the file you have is correct check to see if there is another copy in the main iTunes folder. If so delete it and see if that helps.
Otherwise try uninstalling/deleting folders/reinstalling iTunes again. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details. Your issue looks a bit like it might be a variation of the issue in the first box.
Also worth checking that you have uninstalled the MobileMe control panel and any third party software that might try to talk to iTunes.

That one is usually caused by a misplaced older version of QTCF.dll.
If you've got a 32-bit vista, first look to see if there's a copy of QTCF.dll lurking in your C:\Windows\system32\ folder. If you find one there, drag it out onto the desktop.
