CS4, Epson 2400 printer, Magiclee canvas

I cannot make prints come out properly. They look faded. I downloaded and installed the Magiclee icc profile, but am unable to really figure out which paper on the drop down list fits this profile. The icc profile says Premier Presentation Paper Matte, but that doesn't help. Epson and Microsoft are no help. Please help us!
Thank you.

First, a brief background. I have had excellent results with Photoshop CS4, V4 profiles and Apple OS 10.6.2
with an Epson 3800 for the 1st month after installing 10.6.2 then suddenly, a week ago, gray backgrounds appeared.
I had been hearing about color synch bug issues for some time but had not experienced any until then. I print with both Canon & Epson large format printers. My Canon has a Photoshop Print Plug- in that bypasses the problem. Of course, that doesn't help the Epson. I spoke with Scott Martin at On_Sight ( a color management consultant )  and he made several suggestions one of which worked well for me. I stayed with the newer V4 profiles.
( Mac )  :  go to Photoshop's Edit > Convert to profile  to convert an image to your printer's profile using Perceptual and Black Point Compensation. Then print as you normally would with "Let Photoshop Determine colors" again with the printer's profile selected in the PS dialog box.  This worked fine.
Another excellent suggestion Scott had was to print from Lightroom ( for those who use it ) with the cell size set  exactly to the image size. Again - no gray. This was with Epson 3800, Adobe CS4, Apple 10.6.2 and V4 profiles.
Here is another tip from Scott (  http://www.on-sight.com )
for an Epson user this week :  select the "Epson Color Controls"  button as illustrated. Sometimes it's grayed out but when it's available, it allows us to bypass ColorSync.

  • CS4 - Epson R2400 - Printing too dark.

    System: Vista x64
Monitor calibration: Eye One Display and basICColor Display software - profiled to basICColor's PrePress setting. Luminance is 130.
Paper: Hahnemuhle 'Photo Rag Pearl' (with Hahnemuhle's profile) and Permajet 'Oyster' (with Permajet Profile)
Settings in Print Dialog are: Photoshop Manages Colours, Paper profile selected, Perceptual Rendering Intent, Best Photo, ICM, Colour Management OFF (no colour management), Paper Type selected.
Image is perfect in Photoshop window and perfect in Print Preview, but prints about a stop under and with a cast.
What can I do to get prints that come close to what I'm seeing?
Right now I can only get them if I brighten them such that, in ACR, the file would be way overexposed.
This is very odd. CS3 was much better.
    Any ideas?
Can I create a profile for my CS4/Vista x64/R2400/Paper Choice combination that will get me what I'm seeing on the screen? If so, how do I do this?
    Thanks.

Just sorted my problem using the suggestion on this site>

I reset my printer as the Default Printer and now the prints are exactly(!) what I'm seeing on the monitor.
Wonder what the reset does apart from cure a bug?

  • Windows vista/photoshop CS4/epson 2200 printer interdiction

my previous computer used windows xp and worked fine with cs4 and the epson 2200.  unfortunately, I have never been able to get this fairly new 64 bit vista system to work with cs4 and the epson 2200.  I have downloaded the 64 bit driver from epson and after talking with epson tech support it seems it is  not the printer.  I have tried virtually every combination of  deleting/reinstalling the driver, every combination of "letting printer manage colors" and letting photoshop manage colors, etc.  in the past, I have let photoshop manage colors.  then miraculously, i let the printer manage colors and it worked for a day or two and then it went back to the same muddy off color mess.  now, it looks the same no matter what I do.  somehow, it seems as if my windows program isn't interfacing with the printer.  if anyone has even the slightest suggestion of what to do next i would appreciate it.  other wise, i may just upgrade to windows seven to see if that works any better.

I knew Vista had a dislike for IDE
Thanks for sharing that piece of info. I might add, though, that Vista not per se dislikes IDE, it just does not like some IDE commands and running such disks in compatibility mode, which in part of course also depends not only on the disk, but also the motherboard or specific drivers that may be required. Anyway, given the low price of harddrives, replacing an old drive with a new SATA should be a nobrainer for most people...

  • Communication error with Epson 2400

I am trying to use my Epson 2400 printer with my MacBook and my MacPro, both using Leopard (10.5.5) and connecting by FireWire. When I try to print a photo from PS CS2 with the MacPro, I get a dialog box in the printer application stating that there's a communication error, and the job doesn't print. When I restart the printer and the computer, the same job will start to print, but halt partway through, again with a "communication error". If I then try to print again without restarting, the job won't even start to print. I have to restart the computer, with the same results all over again.
Printing works fine from the laptop using PS Elements. I don't have Elements on the MacPro or CS2 on the laptop. I also have not tried connecting the MacPro by USB, but I shouldn't have to do this.
    Any guidance?
    Thanks,
    --howard

I solved this problem! After lots of searching I ended up at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5692363 Printer setup utility in Leopard which gave the tip to reset the printing system... I did, and then somehow the Epson printer showed up as a Bonjour printer (which I had tried to do in the Airport utility but it would not let me because the name was too short or something strange like that). PageSender Fax showed up also and I just printed a document remotely...
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Trying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.

rying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:
    Printer Driver v9.33
Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:
How to Reset Photoshop CS6’s Preferences File | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV
    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Unable to print from a Mac using Maverick 10.9.2 on an Epson Photo printer with Photoshop CS4. Can you help?

I am trying to print in Photoshop CS4 on an Epson Photo printer (3880) from my Mac. I just upgraded to Maverick 10.9.2 when the problem started. Can you help.

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.
    I hope this helps.

  • Epson 2400 - Can't print tabloid

Having a problem in our studio right now ...
Recently installed Leopard on one of the G5's. Went to print this morning on our Epson 2400 and we cannot print tabloid - the page contents will clip at letter size. Same problem no matter what application we use ... InDesign, Acrobat, etc ...
We are using the latest driver from Epson.
Is there something we're missing here or is this a bug? TIA.

    Try this!
Q: Since I upgraded to Macintosh OS X 10.5 Leopard, some printer driver options are missing. What should I do?
A: Make sure you’re not using the Macintosh OS X 10.5 Gutenprint driver. Follow these steps to check if you’re using the Gutenprint driver and change it if necessary:
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
    Click Print & Fax.
If necessary, click once on your printer’s name in the Printer list. (You don’t need to do this if only one printer driver is installed).
If you see Gutenprint next to your printer name, go to step 5 to change the driver. (The Epson Stylus Photo RX620 appears in the example below, but you’ll see your printer or all-in-one name instead).
If you see only your printer’s name, you’re using the correct driver, and you can skip the remaining steps.
    Turn off the printer.
Click the button to remove the printer from the Printers list, then click OK.
Go to the Macintosh Leopard Support page and select your printer or all-in-one from the appropriate list.
After you select your printer or all-in-one, the web page will either inform you that the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X 10.5 or give you a description and download option for an Epson driver for your printer.
If the driver for your model is included in Mac OS X 10.5, go to the next step. Otherwise, download and install the Epson driver for Mac 10.5 before continuing with step 8.
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. If necessary, click Print & Fax.
Turn on the printer. Your computer should add the printer automatically.
If your computer does not add the printer or if it adds the Gutenprint driver again, contact Apple for assistance. You may need to reinstall the Epson drivers provided with Macintosh OS X 10.5.
Note: To check ink levels, click the Utility button, then click EPSON StatusMonitor. The Supply Levels button will not show remaining ink levels for your Epson printer.

  • Epson 3800 Printer & Photoshop CS4

I've had the snow leopard disc since it came out some 6 months ago, but haven't installed it due to so many issue that I've read about.
    1) Is anyone using snow leopard successfully with the Epson 3800 Printer? Epson has yet to release (if they ever will remains a mystery for owners of this printer) a full-fledged update for the driver.
    2) Is anyone using Photoshop CS4 with snow leopard without issues?
    Thanks.

Well Adobe did it again offering a discount to convert to CS5 just before they released a new version of PSE that is PSE9 for mac
Tested it and the colours come out perfectly just like CS5 and they acutally left in the option on the print screen to select "NO COLOUR MANAGEMENT". In CS5 they pulled it out and as PSE9 appears to be made up of CS5 they must have back tracked on this option after the yelling and screaming from the community.
However we now have(another problem) an issue with grey/cyan printing outside the image area being printed see

  • Problems Printing from Epson 2400 in Lightroom 2.3

I'm in the process of switching over from a PC to a Mac. I've gotten lightroom running and transfered all my photos over. But I'm having two big problems printing from my Epson 2400.
*8.5x11 prints are offset. The top of the picture starts about an inch lower than it should, and the bottom typically gets cut off.
*Lightroom refuses to print 4x6 prints. It says it's printing, and the paper feeds in, but then the printer just spits out a blank page.
I'm using the most current version of the Epson 2400 driver that I could find on the Epson web site.
[Update] I used iPhoto 9 to print out some pictures, and they came out fine. So this seems to be a lightroom issue or a conflict between the lightroom/epson drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Further update. It appears that I can print perfectly from another account on the same mac. But the account on which my catalog resides doesn't work at all. Could my catalog have been corrupted when I transfered my photos and catalog over to the new mac from the pc? Is there any way that I can fix it? (I have tried optimize and relaunch; no luck.)
I could -- as a last restort -- kill the catalog and reimport all my thousands of photos, but wouldn't I loose the keywords and adjustments?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Printing too dark with CS4 and HP printer

I'm using a Macbook and an HP Photosmart C6180.
Any photo I edit in Photoshop CS4 prints much darker than it appears on screen, regardless of what application I actually print from.
On the other hand, photos I edit in a different application (e.g., Photoshop Elements 4.0), print about as bright as they appear on screen.
I've tried adjusting the screen brightness and this does not help.
Anyone have suggestions to resolve this?
    Many thanks in advance.

I just want to jump on board here.  I'm having the same problem with an Epson 2400.  All was well two days ago with CS3, but CS4 has changed the picture, so to speak.

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when attempting to "Manage Custom Sizes" in Epson r3000 printer dialogue window

I'm trying to print a gallery wrap image on an Epson R3000 printer using 13" wide Epson roll canvas. Every time I select "Manage Custom Sizes" in the printer's dialogue window, Photoshop CS5 crashes. I've been using Photoshop software for more than 15 years with a variety of Epson printers including Stylus Pro 7600 and this problem has never occurred previously. I can't seem to find a solution. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance!

That means that there is a bug in your Epson printer driver.
Please contact Epson for updates to their printer driver software.

  • Color Management, Photoshop CS3 and Epson Inkjet Printer

I have been down this road before but here goes again...
    Im using Photoshop CS3.
Im printing on an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 using Photo quality inkjet paper.
I know this printer is capable of very good quality prints.
Thing is I can not figure out the correct combination of color management settings to get a decent print out of Photoshop or InDesign.
I have read that you are supposed to turn off all printer color management and let Adobe manage the color. Doesnt seem to work.
I just get overly magenta images that look awful.
If I let the Epson color management control color I can get a lot closer but the print out is far from accurate or high quality.
So what the heck IS the correct protocol for printing to an Epson inkjet printer from an Adobe app.
BTW, I do seem to get a fairly decent print out of something like a PDF which I understand does its own postscript conversion before hitting the printer.
Is this what my issue is?
Does Photoshop or InDesign require postscript ripper software to get decent results out of an inkjet printer?

Have spent hours with both Adobe and Epson support people. I've read several of these forums. Is there an insurmountable problem with CS3 and Epson (2200/2400 are mine)? I have the Leopard patches and upgrade 10.5.4.
With Photoshop managing the color I get prints that are slightly underexposed and carry a pink cast. Color management is off. With the printer managing the color I get prints that are too green and dark. Epson advice here is to have color management off. There are two other choices for management but to adjust a perfectly balanced print to the printer's whim seem like cruel punishment.
Have a calibrated monitor and my CS2 works beautifully. Perhaps the best idea is to just go back to CS2 until Adobe and Epson can decide what to do. According to Adobe people, the CS3 gives much of the management back to Epson. According to Epson -- with CS3, you should choose the printer to manage the color (since this seems to be the trend between the two companies) but we users are not happy with the results.
What is the solution for right now?

  • Aperture 2.1 vs Epson 2400

    Hi,
I,ve succefully installed the upgrade from Aperture 1.5.
All is ok about libraries and RAW management, but .... it's impossible to print !
I've a Epson 2400 as printer and it's all ok with all others software on my Mac (Photoshop Elements 6, Nikon Capture NX 1.3, ... )
When I try to print a image, Aperture opens correctly the print-window, were I can seen the printer, but it's impossible to use the "print settings" and the "print" commands.
Maybe is it necessary to set something?
    Thank you

    What OS version?
There was an issue with a recent security update which affected printing in Aperture. Though, I don't know if it only affected Aperture 2, or would have affected 1.5 as well.
Try installing all Software Updates from Apple, if you're on Leopard.

  • Epson R2400 print clipping with PowerMac G5 from InDesign

I'm at a total loss here and would appreciate any help.
I'm attempting to print to print a 10x14 inch pages from InDesign on my Epson 2400 on to A3 sized paper.
All goes well until the paper feeds into the machine and and begins printing. The result is a correctly scaled print that's clipped to exactly 213x260 mm, the image is positioned in the top right corner of the A3 sheet.
There has been a lot of discussion on this forum regarding Epson drivers which I have read and followed through, performing my own trouble-shooting. This has included reinstalling the drivers, swapping USB for Firewire and visa-versa, setting up and new user account and even as far as a clean install.
Curiously, this problem not only only specific to InDesign (I can print fine from other apps, including Photoshop) but also specific to the G5. I have two Dual G5 PowerMacs in my studio which exhibit the same problem but there is no issue when I print from our Intel iMac.
I can't tell if it's an Apple or Adobe problem!
Please, if there is anyone out there that can shed some light on this I would love to here from you.
    Thanks
