CS4 Exporting widescreen AVI or Quicktime problems...

Hi.
Ive been pulling my hair out with this one for a long time and can't seem to get anywhere with it despite searching the net for an anwer that works for me.
I simply want to export a short video as a PAL widescreen AVI or Quicktime movie, I really don't mind which.
My problem is that no matter what settings I try, the video either comes out slightly stretched with black bars to the left and right (below left) or reduced in size rather than fullscreen (below right).
The images below are from VLC player set to fullscreen viewing. I thought it might be an isue with VLC but I get the same problem when I try it with Quicktime player and when I uploaded the final video to the net...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RZuhsrM6tY
The settings that got me the above results are:
Format: Microsoft AVI or Quicktime
Preset: Pal DV Widescreen
Codec: DV Pal or H.264
Width and Height: 720 x 576 (greyed out and locked, unless using H.264 Codec)
I've tried interprating my footage to conform to the pixel aspect ratio of  D1/DV PAL Widescrren 16:9 (1:4587)  which helped  but the image is still not fullscreen if you see what I mean?
If anyone can tell me what settings I should be using I would be eternally greatful because I'm going to lose my mind if I don't figure it out soon. Surely it can't be that difficult or unusual export format!?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Stuart.

The problem is with the players.  You need to tell them to unsquish the video manually.  They don't do it automatically.
YouTube needs a square pixel export.  You would not use this export for upload to YouTube.  You'd export a separate file specifically for that.
how do I manually tell the players to do that?
I am struggling with the same issue: DV PAL is always 4:3  720x576 - so where does the "PAL DV Widescreen" export setting (PAR parameter) come into play?
DV PAL 720x576 16:9 letterbox source footage was captured at PAR 1.0940
sequence is same PAR
what should be my export settings for:
1. creating a file to be displayed correctly on a flat screen TV monitor using a DVD standard player
2. creating a file to be  displayed correctly on a computer monitor using a Windows OS / players
3. creating a file to be uploaded on youtube (I got that exported and uploaded and  displayed alright by tagging it yt:crop=16:9). I think I exported it as Sq pixel PAR
4. Encore settings for creating a DVD with these videos to be  displayed on both TV monitor and PC monitor.
All  export settings I tested the file with produced a lightly 'fattened' image when played back on my mac using QT, exept the Sq pixel export which looks perfect on my mac. No Sq pixel exported files show in QT player Info window: "720x576 (788x576)" - why is that?
Thank you

  • CS4: Exporting "lightweight" AVI with chapter marks?

Prior to CS4, I recall being able to export a "lightweight" AVI file using black video filler and the "Expand Stills" option that would contain chapter marks. You could import this AVI into Encore, where the chapter marks would be recognized, and then use the "Replace Asset" option to replace the AVI with an M2V encoded in a different encoder. This worked great--but I can't seem to get it to work any more. I'm guessing that whatever enabled this feature was forcibly extracted when the Media Encoder went solo, but if not--how the heck do I do this?

Don't see anything like that in CS3.  Closest thing to it is this:   Export / movie / settings / compile settings ....

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

  • Exporting an avi out of premiere cs4 from a tiff sequence (1024 x 576)

Hi i would be so greatful if someone could inform me of the correct setting becouse at the moment the avi i export seems to not be wide enough.
I have a tiff sequence renderd out from after effects at 1024 x 576 and set to square pixels. i am required to then take this into premiere and render out as a microsoft avi with the compression set to none. i also need to add a sound file to this the movie.
i begin by setting up a new sequence and as i cant seem to set the size to 1024x576 i have selected the preset widescreen 48khz (not 100% if this is right) i then bring both my tiff sequence(1024x576) and my music on to the time line, i the click export and media :  Here is the settings on the screen and as you can see in the preview widow the size seems to look about right. However once the movie has been exported it does not appear as wide as this.
i would be so greatfull if you can tell if i am doing anything wrong.
    Thankyou,
    Ryan

Why do you need the AVI file, and does it have to be DV AVI? The problem will be that DV AVI is going to Export to less than what you have in both your Project/Sequence and your Assets. [Edit] Must have been dreaming, as you never mentioned "DV. You should be able to Export out as MS AVI [Uncompressed]
Depending on exactly how you will use this file, might provide some other alternative. There are several other good CODEC's, that might get what you have into what you want.
Please define the use for the Exported file? Answers will flow in.
    Good luck,

  • Have problem to convert MOV to AVI in QuickTime Pro 6.1

Have problem to convert MOV to AVI in QuickTime Pro 6.1 - I tried export (convert) MOV(18MB) to AVI format, and got just 253KB AVI file in output. I even can no play it. What is wrong? What Export options(quality) should be selected? I used default (medium), should I use 'high' or 'best'?

I am assuming you already are able to open the movie
in QT Player. Use Export in the File menu, choose
Movie to Avi in the drop-down Export Menu and then
click on Options to choose one of the pre-loaded avi
codecs for the compression. You may also want to
search for and install one of the newer codecs, such
as 3ivx or divx since the preinstalled codecs are all
    rather old.

  • Problem exporting uncompress AVI

Problem exporting uncompress AVI. The output file will have in-between frames that appear like this:
    Help!

Thanks for response! It's not the player's problem (it's mpc btw), I import it into Premiere for post editing and it's disaster to see the failed rendering.
Mmm need time/Everest to find out the system info. Generally render setting is just straightforward AVI lossless/best quality with no codec assigned.

I have an .avi file Quicktime is refusing to play, yet the information says Quicktime does play .avi files. Does anyone know what the problem is?

AVI is a legacy file container originated by Microsoft back in 1992 and which has not been officially supported for more than a decade. Like the container, many of the codecs commonly used to create AVI content are also "legacy" compression formats most often supported on PC/Windows platforms. In fact, some codecs have never been transcoded for Mac use. Of those that have, many never made the transition to Mac OS X or the transition to Intel-based platforms. Those codecs that are still supported on the Mac can normally be found in the avi to quicktime converter available as an online download. While some common AVI compression formats may be supported by the QT X Player app, QT 7 currently provides a more compatible AVI playback environment for most "legacy" compression formats. If the codec(s) used in your AVI files are not supported by the avi to quicktime converter for QT use, you can try the VLC media player which may still support more esoteric compression formats. If  VLC does not support the files, the normal approach is to discover which specific audio and/or video codecs were used to create the file and perform an Internet search to see if a compatible Mac component is available for download.

  • Can't export to Quicktime: problem with file or disk full

Keynote 2.02 won't export files to quicktime. I've tried every format and even custom ones. I've tried changing destination disks and I've exported to PDF, JPEG, PowerPoint. Only Quicktime (7.02) is having this problem. I've even exported a movie in quicktime to verify that's working. Keynote goes through the motions of compressing the file and then fails at the very end.
PLEASE HELP! I NEED THIS TO WORK AGAIN!

Have you tried the remedy posted here?

  • Adobe Flash CS4 export problems

I have created a soundboard in Adobe Flash CS4 which looks perfect and functions perfectly using the "enable simple buttons" command. But if I use "test movie" the soundboard opens in a test window, but the text is messed up on some of the buttons. Also, the little hand that shows up when hovering a button only shows up in areas around the edge of the buttons. Its as if the rectangular box I saw around the text during editing isn't acting transparent after export. So that's my dilemma after export. Missing text and problem with activating sounds.

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • CS4 Export AVI Media Encoder

Trying to export an uncompressed AVI from CS4 via Media Encoder. Project settings are 1440x1080, 29.97. Project is compromised of mainly images and graphics. Going to be played off laptop connected to Plasma via HDMI. Kind of a short 5 minute presentation.
Issue is I have tried many export settings and using:
    Microsoft AVI
    Video Codec - NONE
    Width - 1440
    Height - 1080
    Frame Rate 29.97
    Field - Progressive
    Aspect - HD Anamorphic (1.333)
It exports the AVI but in Windows Media Player it playes 4:3. Can't figure why it keeps going back to 4:3 when aspect is set correctly.
Was so much better in CS3. Any thoughts??

Thanks Jeff. I kind of thought about that after I posted. I did bring it back into Premiere and it was perfect. Everything looked good. Ok so Windows Media Player blows. Now I guess I'll have to find a good player that will be able to handle it. I would just play out of Pr and setup the plasma as a monitor but it might slow things down.

  • CS4 Export Problem

I have an external hard drive to which I export my encoded CS4 video files once I have finished editing.  The problem is that, in doing so, space seems to be used also on my C drive.  I need to find and delete these files on my C drive once my PP project files are rendered to my external drive.  I have looked in temp files but they not there.  Can anyone advise me on this?

That's done it S.V.  Many thanks!

I'm a newbie so don't take my word as gospel buuuuttt....
If you're using Vista you might be making the same mistake as me. Go edit>preferences>media, hover the mouse over the media cache files location (i.e. C:\yadayada) and TYPE that into the bar at the top of the my computer. Don't click through and try and find it, TYPE it like you would an internet address in a web browser.
    Silly Vista.

  • CS4 exports are 5 times slower then in CS2

    System:
    Windows 7 (64)
    AJA Bord
    8 Core System
In CS2 it was possible to make UNCOMPRESSED exports apart from the Adobe Media Encoder. In CS4 all exports seem to run thru the Media Encoder. Most of the exports work faster but I did not find a propper way to export UNCOMPRESSED files.
On the "old" system (4 Core - Windows XP) CS2 exports
    AJA Avi v210 1920x1080
...in nearly real time. The same file with the new setup takes about 5x realtime. The weird thing though h264 also needs about the same amount of time then the uncompressed files. And the problem is not the RAID connected (copying is faster the real time)
    Any Ideas?

Sadly this seems to have no affect on the exporting time. I changed the set
ting USE MAXIMUM RENDER QUALITY (ON+OFF).
Since my input and output is the same (AJA avi v210) the system should not render anything, right?
Uncompressed 8 Bit 4:2:2 Quicktime files are axported in real time. It seems like the problem is the AJA Codec on this Machine.
Again, this is Windows 7 / CS4 and AJA LHE. Maybe I'll have to contact AJA?

  • Exporting widescreen DV in CS3

Hi, I have anamorphic 720x480 widescreen DV footage (853x480 square pixels). I created project with preset DV -NTSC widescreen(PAR 1.2) frame size 720x480. When i export these footage with square pixels, i get the video with frame size 720x480 with black bars on top and bottom. I assume that premiere downscaled my original footage 853x480 to 720x405 and as long as the frame size is 720x480, it added black bars on top and bottom. I used this export settings: microsoft or panasonic dv avi, square pixels, compressor DV NTSC.
    My pont is:
How can i export the video with no black bars (853x480 or 720x405) ?
I tried to create project with custom settings(both 853x480 and 720x405 frame size) to no avail. It looks like NTSC compressor can export only            720x480  frame size with video scaled to fit that frame.I would prefer to export 853x480 video so that the resolution is the same as original. But i would be really glad if anybody comes with solution to export at least 720x405 video.
    Thanks for any advice...

    Thanks Bill,
I do not want only compress the video, i also want to store it at the same quality for further use(editing, compression etc.). Therefore I wanted to use DV codec. But as you said DV NTSC will always be 720x480. There is only one chance to export this video in DV with no "resolution loosing": in 16:9 widscreen DV(PAR 1.2) 720x480, which is the same as input from camera. To use this video on PC(web, other players) you need to compress it again with square pixels.
Your post led me to check other options:
         1. I tried to export Microsoft AVI with Panasonic DV Codec and choose some other frame sizes, but the conversion could not continue(frame size not supported).
         2. As you suggested, I choose format Microsoft AVI and then "none" compression or "uncompressed Microsoft AVI" with frame size 853x480, square pixels. Both choices produced exactly what I wanted(loosless, 853x480 video), but unfortunately these files were extremely large(40 000 kB\sec).
         3. I installed quicktime and tried format mov\mp4 - codec H.264. If you want only export compressed video, then this is good choice. The produced video has the exact frame size you set(853x480 im my case ). As windows user Im just not so happy it is mov/mp4 and not only mp4. And anytime you want to compress your edited footage again using other compression or quality, you need to do it in premiere and keep all the original footage.
When I exported my footage in widescreen DV codec PAR=1.2 and tried to compress it in external programs, i had some difficulties to get exactly what i wanted(either frame size or quality). For example i used quicktime to compress this video in mov\mp4 - H.264 but players had problems to play it(VLC, KMP).
As long as I do not want to store all my original footage from camera, just the edited one(not loosing quality), and also in the future want to be able compress this video using different compression methods, the final but no perfect solutions for me are these:
         1. export video in DV widescreen PAR=1.2 and then find out the way to compress it in external program properly(still can´t find such a way)
         2. export video in RGB(uncompressed), 853x480, square pixels(produces too large files - even many times larger than original footage).
Anyway, thank you for your advice!
