64 bit CS4 Extended crashes when changing workspaces
Everytime I try to change workspaces, PS CS4 Extended crashes. Operating system as follows: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, Intel CoreI7 3.2, 64 bit 12 gig ram, so power should not be problem. Has anyone experienced similar problems or have a clue? I am running and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS with the latest driver and open GL enabled.
Thanks,
JoeDo you see the same problem with OpenGL disabled?
I ask because I've seen things work on the first run after deleting preferences, only to fail on the second and subsequent runs. It wasn't the same issue you're seeting, but in that case a video driver update corrected it.

CS4 Extended crashes when opening an image
I've been using CS4 Extended for 3+ years with no problem, and suddenly it is giving me the message, "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended has experienced a problem and must close..." This also happens when I try to set Preferences. I'm using XP 5.1, SP3. I've installed the latest updates, but the Camera Raw 5.7 update fails to install.
Here is my system info:

Would it perhaps help to de-activate, uninstall, and re-install? I have the original installation files from my download.Fixed (apparently)!
I found a beta driver dated 2006 on the GeForce website and installed it. This allowed me to open "Preferences" and check the "Use Open GL Drawing" check box, which I was unable to do before. The beta driver was not digitally signed, but supposedly enabled 3D and Open GL, which apparently is an issue with CS4. The old driver was version 6.14.10.5216, and the new version is 6.14.10.9381.
There is no explanation for why this worked for so long with the old driver and suddenly stopped, but I don't need to know the answer to that! -

Whenever I open a file or create a new file (file type doesn't seem to make a difference), Photoshop stops responding for a few seconds, then my monitor goes to standby mode. Turning the monitor off then on again doesn't help. The computer continues to run, but the only way to regain control is a hard reboot. Everything worked just fine until yesterday, when it first started doing this.
EDIT: I use a dual-monitor setup, but recently my secondary monitor's backlight burned out, so I unchecked the "extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" checkbox in windows display settings. This is when Photoshop started crashing. When I thought about that, I went back and rechecked the box and now everything works fine.

Still, it's a workaround at best. This should not happen. I'd definitely investigate the graphics card driver settings and PS' OpenGL prefs. There must be a way to get both working without the crashes...

Photoshop CS4 Extended Crashes Since Updating Acrobat to 9.3
I have CS4 Web Premium. When I save a document in pdf format from Photoshop(PS) CS4, it normally opens the saved document in Acrobat 9.x. Up until yesterday, when I installed the Acrobat 9.3 update, the results have always been to have then have the document open in both Acrobat and PSCS4. No problem. Now, however, when I save a pdf document in PSCS4, the document, after an unusually long lag after clicking the "save pdf" button in PSCS4, opens in Acrobat as before BUT Photoshop Crashes; an error says that PS experienced an error and will be closed....
I would like to know how to correct this, if possible. Alternatively, I would like to uninstall the update to Acrobat, since everything worked great before I installed it. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.I have already tried the repair function in Acrobat and the problem did not
resolve. However, in photoshop, when in the Save PDF prefs dialog appears, I
unchecked "view pdf". Now Photoshop no longer opens Acrobat to view the pdf
there, but also it no longer crashes. I can live with that. A lot less
trouble then resintalling Acrobat, with each of the incremental updates. I
have Acrobat installed also on a second computer, but will not be updating
that computer to Acrobat 9.2.
Thank you. -
Photoshop CS4 Extended crashes in Windows XP whenever I save
I hope someone can help me, a beginning Photoshop user.
It crashes almost always whenever I try to save. I have installed the 11.0.1 patch. GPU is turned off.
Here are the details of my system:
Toshiba Satellite A105 running Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.
1.86 GHz 2.99 GB RAM
C drive (that is used for Photoshop) is 92.92 GB with 53.58 GB free space. I've defraged the drive.
Video display card: Mobile Intel(R) 945 GM Express Chipset Family version 6.14.10.4436
I have other applications off when I am using Photoshop.
I typically am working from NEF files approx. 30 MB
It's really frustrating - and is making it very difficult for me to learn the software.
Thanks. Thanks - I'm learning how to use this forum. Here's what I thought I had sent:
Here's a typical application error record in the event viewer log:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 11.0.1.0, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0001d7e6.
Does this tell us anything?
and (for the second post):
In the event viewer log, I also found the entry below, before I installed the Photoshop update:
The application, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 01/31/2010 @ 22:44:40.921 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 7756BB9B (ole32!CoWaitForMultipleHandles)
The above entry came about 20 seconds after this application error record:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 11.0.0.0, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0008bb9b.
The faulting module ole32.dll seems common to all the photoshop application error messages. Is this a clue? -
Photoshop CS4 Extended crashes when exiting/quitting
I recently installed CS4 and when I quit Photoshop CS4 I get a "DDE Server... memory could not be 'read'" error. I've looked all over the forums for solutions to this, tried deleting my preferences file, reinstalling CS4, and fiddling with performance options, but nothing seems to make a change. I never had much trouble with CS2 or CS3. This is really annoying.
Chris,
From a programming standpoint, the errors are different, but they are similar in that PSCS4 consistently crashed with the above posted error message on exiting after having loaded an image. I read the Adobe troubleshooting advice and traced the problem to a bad video driver for my old Quadro 2 Pro card. I downloaded the Adobe certified driver and the problem has not recurred.
It helps to RTFM. -
...today I have updated the lastest software to version 11.02 and it is still crashing. Please can anyone help.
Without system information and the crash details nobody can say anything.

CS4 Extended Crashing During Save
Anytime an attempt to save an image is made, CS4 will "save" for about three minutes then present the error, "Could not save 'xxxx' because" along with a Windows delay write failed.. Been using PS fine for several months now, couldn't find a solution anywhere online. Suggestions?
run chkdsk
run anti-virus and other malware checks
disable all third party plugins
disable all utility software and try using Photoshop
etc. -
PS CS4 Extended crashes while trying to use 3D tools
I hope someone can help, I tried searching to the answer, but came out empty handed.
Okay, every time I try to use any of the 3D tools Photoshop quits "unexpectedly" and get the usual Quit/Restart pop up.
Here are my computer specs:
MacBook Pro with Mac OS X - 10.4.11 with 3gb of ram, almost 2gb allocated to scratch disk and a ATI Radeon x1600 vid card. (laptop is 3 years old now)
Does anyone know what is wrong?Okay, back from the dead. I did a little digging around and found this on the ATI site:
"Radeon X1600’s 90-nanometer process technology and ultra-threaded architecture combine power and efficiency to optimized support for Shader Model 3.0 and deliver new high dynamic range visual effects, enhanced realism with adaptive anti-aliasing and lightening fast performance in OpenGL and DirectX® 9 games."
So now I am stimied again. Anyone else? -
I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash. There is no serial number on the back of the case. How can I obtain a usable serial number?
Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software. -
Photoshop CS4 extended 64bit crash opening CS3 files
Everytime i open a CS3 psd file in Photoshop CS4 extended 64bit the application crash after few minutes or seconds... this is very very very frustrating...
In PHOTOSHOP CS4 extended 64bit i think the problem is opening CS3 files containing text layer ...
I have done tests with
- a file with only background > apparently OK
- a file with a simply text layer > CRASH
- a file with a simply text layer and masked image > CRASH
- a file with masked image > apparently OK
all file are 640x480 72dpi RGB
The 32bit version don't crash but is to slow than CS3

Adobe Photoshop CS4/5 Crashes when using the Move Tool
Hello. I'm here because I'm having an issue with Photoshop.
I was trying out CS5 when it started to crash every time I tried to use the Move Tool. It was the generic error message: "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working.
A problem has caused Adobe Photoshop CS4 to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Thinking that it was a CS5 issue, I went back to my copy of CS4, only to find the same thing happening there (I also downgraded because CS5 was also crashing at other random times for some reason, but that's an issue for another time).
This puzzles me because both were working fine before. Granted, I hadn't opened them for a while, but it was a sudden thing.
My first impulse was to uninstall and reinstall CS4. No luck. So then, I uninstalled all third-party plugins, thinking that might be it. Still, the same problem. I started looking around on Google for solutions and found the instructions on resetting the Tool preferences (I chose to reset the preferences for ALL of the tools). When that didn't work, I tried deleting the preferences file outright, which said instructions recommended. Nothing.
I should note that Photoshop crashes when using the Move Tool to move an object without ant lines around it, i.e., a layer. I'll move the object, and after two to three seconds, the mentioned error message will appear and Windows will close Photoshop. This, however, only seems to happen after selecting, copying, and pasting part of a large object with some variation of the Marqee Tool (thus making that part a new layer by default) while working at a zoom of 100%. So, in short, working with a large image like <a href=http://www.wallpaper4me.com/images/wallpapers/ergo_proxy_267_1280-862301.jpeg>This</a> at 100% zoom. The image linked is the image that I was using and am currently using to reproduce the problem. It is 1280x1024 pixels. I have tested this with somewhat smaller, yet comparable images too. Same problem. I have never had this problem working with large images before, and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions short of formatting my hard drive.

Photoshop Version: CS4 Extended 11.0.2Even a decent RAM upgrade is usually only a few hundred dollars nowadays, but it's not a trivially simple process. That said, with a little research and care you can do it. Alternatively, you can hire people (e.g., "Geek Squad") to do such an upgrade.
First, you'll need to know what your operating system capacity is. For example, a 32 bit Windows system can really only use up to a bit more than 3 GB of RAM, while a 64 bit Windows system can use all the RAM you can find a place to plug in. What version of Windows are you running?
Then you'll need to determine what RAM you have installed and what your computer's maximum RAM capacity is - usually you can do this through internet research, either by visiting your computer manufacturer's web site or doing google searches. There are even RAM manufacturer web sites that will tell you what kind of RAM your computer needs and suggest sources, for example:
http://www.kingston.com/
It may be that you can just plug additional chips into currently empty sockets, or it is possible you'll need to replace the RAM chips you have installed in your computer to make room for an upgrade. Every computer is different.
If you list your computer model and current RAM that you have installed here, it may be that someone can help with more specific advice.

CS4 PS crash in 64 bit Save for Web but not 32 bit - help!?
Anyone got any ideas please on how to stop Photoshop CS4 crashing on Save for Web in 64 bit version of Windows 7?
Running Windows 7, 64 bit Pro with both 64bit and 32bit versions of Photoshop CS4 installed.
The problem: I design a website, add slices etc as I've done for the last 10 years, go to Save for Web and as the dialogue box is opening and the blue bar at the bottom starts to show it loading, it gets just over half way and then crashes, saying the error message 'Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working'. No solution available and then closes. Does this quite a few times (say 20-30%) of the time but not always. Tried the same PS document running 32bit version of Photoshop CS4 and it saves for web fine, never any crashes, only using the 64 bit version of PS. Need 64bit to take advantage of extra memory etc and one of the reasons the machine/ software combo was bought for.
Running a brand new (well about a month or so) Dell T3500 dual Xeon W3505, 12gb ram, Nvidia Quadro Fx 3800, Raptor HD etc built to run Win 7 Pro and CS4 Extended. I suspect the spec isn't to blame, checked all the hardware etc, no plugins that arent standard with a new install, so no obvious reason I can tell of as to why its not working. Not much else installed and started playing up before I installed other bits of software so doent make sense it might be other software cauing any problems.
Put a support query in and basically got told CS4 wasnt tested with 64 bit CS4 and directed to a possible support solution to 64 bit running on xp/ vista with general advice. No use whatsoever.
Firstly, anyone else having the same problem? Secondly, anyone know how to solve this? If its any help, I've pasted the Action Center info on one of the many crashes:

Would really appreciate any help/ advice on solving this.
Thanks.Been reading up on that c0000005 error and in all the Operating systems it is a access violation. There are a lot of hits about windows 7 and software not being allowed local access and be saved that way too. What I think is that windows 7 is not allowing it for some reason in 64 bit mode or some security setting in the local needs adjusting?
I found this interesting fact
I was reading where testors were monitoring how windows 7 firewall allows DRM to run in the firewall. All the software they tested asked first for firewall permission (my software on my system asked first so know it is true on my other system). However, according to the testers, with PS CS4 the DRM does not ask to run with firewall premission. Windows 7 just bypasses the asking part and PS CS4 DRM gets firewall access.
Edit by me:
Google the offset code and your the very first to report it. -

May someone help me to track and trace this bug and how to solve it?
ThanksPrior to the subscription models—and of course that includes CS4—the Photoshop license was platform specific, either Windows or Mac, but not both. Your CS4 Windows serial number ("key") will never work on the Mac version.
CS4 is out of the loop as far as requesting a platform swap for a nominal fee. It is no longer supported by Adobe in any way. A platform swap required the destruction of your PC version, so you could not use both the PC and the Mac versions.
For a time, you could have used CS4 to upgrade to CS6 for about $200, but that time window has closed by now. Now you would have to own a legitimate version of CS5 in order to be eligible to buy an upgrade to CS6.
You can of course buy the full version of Photoshop CS6 Extended for $1,000 from the Adobe store:
Creative Suite 6
Alternatively, you can subscribe to Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC2014 on a monthly basis without ever owning the software. If you stop paying monthly, the software ceases to work.
The cheapest subscription is the Photography plan, which includes both Photoshop and Lightroom for $10 a month.
