CS4 extended to CS5 Upgrade is it possible ?

I have Cs4 extended but my uses do not need the extra bits in the extended version.
Can i upgrade to CS5 without purchasing an extended version upgrade ?

Installer Problems - PS CS4 Extended into CS5 Extended

A couple of weeks after I upgraded to CS4 Extended, CS5 Extended was released, and Adobe was nice enough to 'grandfather' me into an upgrade.
However, when I install, it doesn't work. It asks for 'eligible' upgrade products, and while CS4 is on the list, CS4 Extended is NOT...????
So am I out of luck? Am I doing something wrong here? Why would someone be eligible to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 Extended, but not from CS4 extended to CS5 Extended.
This is one of these frustrations that really gets you...because I know that in my neighborhood there are probably already ten people using CS5 Extended, and the only reason they can is that they're unethical and using a cracked version.
How do I get around this? I'm running in 'trial' now

If it asks just for "Photoshop CS4", then according to Adobe's own linguistics this would cover both versions. in that case inputting the serial would be the only differentiation criteria. If it doesn't work, then call support. You may have been given a wrong serial and only they can handle this. This is a user forum, after all...

CS5 works fully on my Macbook Pro, but it all depends on your specs. If you have a newer MBP on SL, you should be fine. Photoshop isn't terribly demanding on the computer so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Whichever one you can get is fine.

Upgrade from CS4 extended to CS5

I have Photoshop CS4 extended. Purchased the upgrade to CS5, loaded the disc, ran the installation , all seemed Ok.
However my current version of CS4 is still displayed - Is there a diffenece in the updrade discs you need to purchase?
Won't be too happy as I ordere d by phone and I explained what I had ? . Not a happy bunny with Adobe at the moment.

Upgrade CS4 Extended to CS5 Standard

Does anyone know if I can upgrade my CS4 extended version to the CS5 Standard? I don't think I will use much of the Extended portion. It talks about 3d capabilities, etc but I am a San Diego photographer and I don't need that stuff.
Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks, that is what I thought but an Adobe rep that I spoke to last night said I can use the Ext functions from CS4 Ext with the CS5 only upgrade. I have not been happy with Adobe about CS5 release, I bought CS4 Ext on March 3 and then found out about the CS5 release shortly afterwards and they would not allow me to get the free upgrade. There is no way that I would have bought CS4 had I known that CS5 was right around the corner. Great products but very stingy marketing! Other successful corporations have a lot more respect and courtesy and go above and beyond the bare minimum to keep their customers happy.

My base full version is CS4. Bought CS5 upgrade in 2013 and would like to upgrade to CS6.
Is this possible?
Could be that only the full version of CS5 (i.e. being the 'base'-version) can be upgraded..?
Can't find any info on that.

Well those trial versions only last for 30 days. They are totally irrelevant to this discussion. They would have done you absolutely no good for anything.
As I wrote above:
ALL Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS. They do not need to find a previous version installed at all. If they don't, they will simply prompt you for the old serial number of the qualifying version and the new one.
Your prior versions remain untouched, totally ignored when you install the upgrade.

CS2 to CS4 Extended Problem

After loading the CS4 Extended version, the "Upgrade Check" defaults to CS3 Extended as my previous version. The problem is that I do not have and CS3 product installed on my system. I do, however, have CS2.
Of course, without the correct version for the upgrade checker to read, I am unable to get CS4 to accept and work beyond the 30 day trial period.
I could really use some help on this. How do I get the upgrade checker to recognize CS2?

The problem was easily resolved with a call to Adobe. Apparently, the default problem was due to a previous beta install of the CS3 Extended Suite that I had not completely removed from my system. I was assured that the problem was not an SKU issue.

I've just upgraded my CS4 by downloading CS5 upgrade from Adobe UK. Previously I've bought from a reseller, and Adobe generously gave me a free month's subscription to Lynda.com. Does anyone know if this offer is still available?

It depends what you need to upgrade to. You probably cannot upgrade CS4 to a newer Creative Suite because it is most often no longer in the upgrade path. Usually CS5 is the minimum in the path, and the only upgrade that you could get is for CS6 since Adobe does not sell older versions.
If you would like to join the Creative Cloud then you should be able to upgrade to the special introductory plan they have for Creative Suite owners.

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

I do own CS4 Design Premium. Afaik some (all?) products have been completely re-coded (cocoa?) to support 64-Bit on OSX. As I would worry about some kind of mismatch when upgrading (I'm a big fan of clean installs) would it be possible to install CS5 from scratch or has CS4 be installed on the system?

You don't need to uninstall CS4. The CS5 apps are totally separate and are not over written in the install process.

CS4 is no longer offered. You have to buy CS5,
You have to pay a premium to jump out of the upgrade channel you are in. Howeve, think about this carefully. Once in the Extended upgrade path you will have to continue this path.
Also, research this carefully, as I have seen a nunber of posts that indicate the user regrets making the switch as they rarely use the added features, and if really into the 3D stuff other products have more features.
