CS4 Feature

Is 3d a feature of CS4 or CS4 extended?  I just started a workbook which had part of a lesson on 3D and it showed 3D in the menu bar.  Other sections of the book made it clear when they were using a feature in extended.  This section led me to believe that it was part of Photoshop.  If it is, it is not showing up on my menu bar. Been driving me nuts for a couple of hours now.

Hi Jim,
The 3D feature set is only available with Extended.

  • Huge Delay in Photoshop CS4 features

Hey. I've download Photoshop CS4 and running it in trial mode. When I use the brush tool for example, the delay in it actually printing on the paper after I click and drag is like 1-2 seconds. I have a pretty good PC, 2.4ghz @ quad.
    Any ideas?

uncheck advanced drawing in the gpu enable advanced features.
you may also want to turn of 'show overlay' and clipping in the clone stamp feature if you use that often and notice a delay.

  • New CS4 features

At Dave's suggestion, I'm starting a thread for discussing new scripting
features is CS4. I'd divide new features into three categories: 1)
improvements/additions to the InDesign DOM, 2) improvements to the ESTK,
    and 3) improvements/additions to ScriptUI.
I'll start off this thread with one improvement on each of these fronts.
    (There are lots...)
    Category 1:
There's a new isValid property for all InDesign objects. This is
something that's been in the SDK for ever, but only made its way into
the scripting DOM of CS4. This means that instead of try/catch every
time you're trying to figure out if an object is valid, you can just write:
    if(myObject.isValid){DoMyStuff()}
    or,
    if(! myObject.isValid){return}
This is a small thing but in my book it's huge!
    Category 2:
There's a new function panel in the ESTK which shows all the functions
in the current script and makes navigating to the functions very easy.
    Category 3:
There are now keyboard and mouse events, so you can now create widgets
which do everything the built in dialog scripting widgets do (and a
    whole lot more!!!)

Noel, nothing wrong with Roy's posts for me (using the default web interface). It may just be you :-)
Talking about interfaces, please don't comment on this one. It does the job, innit? (I'm sure someone else could do better with ScriptUI. Go ahead.)

  • CS4 feature query

Does the sixth version of InDesign finally remember print settings properly? That is, it remembers range but resets quantity to 1. It's getting awfully frustrating (even for Adobe) that they keep changing it, and it keeps getting worse.

    Put feather back to zero?

Nice to see the poll and the results though I love multiple artboards I love the new appearance panel functions. excellent poll.

  • Illustrator CS4  - FreeHand Features?

Real World Illustrator Blog has a rundown of the new CS4
features. Some seem like they may have been influenced by FreeHand:
Multiple Artboards, Blob Brush, Clipping Masks, Bleed, Pathfinder.

The advantage to having all in one document is to make
    uni-lateral color
changes, style changes, photo changes, etc. in one document
    especially
in the early development of the project. This is primarily a
combination of the multiple pages PLUS Graphic Find and
    Replace which
    Illustrator STILL does not have.
BTW- I'm assuming that Illustrator still doesn't even have
    the ability
to un-embed an imported image, that becomes a real headache
    when you
    receive files from someone else!

  • OPENING CS4 FILES IN CS3

Is there any way to open up CS4 files in CS3? If not, would I be able to just cut and paste from CS4 to CS3? Thanks.

From CS4, export the file in INX format. Then you can open it in CS3 (assuming you have the most recent update of CS3). Of course, you lose anything you've created using CS4 features, so examine it carefully.

  • Saving Photoshop CS4 file for Photoshop CS3

    Hello
How should I save a Photoshop CS4 file so that a client running Photoshop CS3 can open it? In other words is Photoshop CS4 backwards compatible with Photoshop CS3?
    Marlene

Just save it. but keep in mind that any CS4 features that you may have used will not be available in CS3.
Always save with maximize compatibility on.

  • Downsaving from Indesign CS4 to CS3

We just got several new G5 iMacs and we put CS4 Design Premium on them. On the rest of our iMacs we have CS3 Design Premium. When we down save, the text comes out fine, but when saving files with pictures, the pictures do not show up when we open the INX file. Has anyone had this problem, or know a solution to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you want people to have access to the image, you need to provide the images. Package the InDesign file, then export the INX. Also export a PDF so people can see what, if any, text reflow occurred or what CS4 features were lost in translation.

  • Flash CS4 Bug saving to external drive?

I discovered last week when teaching my Flash class that in saving FLAs to my USB drive, and THEN testing/publishing, the AS3 code was ignored in the resulting SWF?EXE files.  I duplicated the situation with multiple computers, mutliple external drives and multiple FLA files. I even tried it at differnt locations (home and campus). The problem is only related to CS4 with Actionscipt 3.  Both CS3/AS3 and CS4/AS2 test/compile as one would expect. Save the CS4/AS3 file to the internal C: drive and then test/publish everything works fine. Go figure! WHy would the save location make any difference? I thought perhaps it was a PATH environment variable issue, but putting the external drive path in the PATH statement caused no effect.
Here's the information I'm providing to my class tonight. Anyone else encountering the same? BTW, I upgraded to release 10.0.2 but to no avail.
    THE PROBLEM:
I think I discovered a pretty major bug in Flash CS4. When creating an ActionScript 3 file (with scripts written on the timeline) and saving the FLA source to an external drive (such as a USB thumb drive) and then testing (Control > Test Movie) or publishing (File > Publish), the AS3 code is ignored in the resulting SWF or EXE. If you save the file to the C: drive and then test/publish, it works fine. I tried this on several computers with several different FLA files and differing script, with several devices including a network drive – all with the same result.
I posted the problem to the ActionScript forum at adobe.com and contacted tech support (via email) but have yet to receive any useful feedback.
    SOLUTIONS:
OPTION 1: Save your FLA to the hard drive before testing. You can create a temporary folder on the desktop of the campus computers or should have access to C:\TEMP. So save your files there and at the end of you session, be sure to copy the files (both the FLA and any published files) to your USB for safekeeping. When updating your FLA, first copy it to the internal C: hard drive, then make changes and test, etc.
OPTION 2: AS3 code written to an external .AS file does work when compiled. But this really is beyond the scope of this class and adds a lot of complexity.
OPTION 3:  Use Flash CS3 – works fine in CS3, but of course you can’t use any of the cool new CS4 features such as new motion tweening, and inverse kinematics (IK bone structures).

    Susan,
Would the File > Archive Project do what you want?

  • CS4/G5/Tiger/OpenGL

It all started when I tried to use the feature in CS4 for changing the brush head size.
Instead of using the bracket keys, one is able to hold down Control+Alt and slide the mouse/pen. What then happens is the brush head size alters accordingly and is shown in Red. Accept when I do it, I can see the size of the brush enlarging or reducing, but there is no red colour.  In fact there is no colour at all during the process, just a round circle.
Someone suggested that my Graphics card was not up to date, I checked and it is.
Next I updated my copy of CS4 to the current version.
I then went into preferences to enable OpenGL but It was 'Greyed Out'. I was told that I needed to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard or Snow Leopard for all the CS4 feature to work.
I didn't want to upgrade to Snow Leopard as I understand that there may still be some bugs. Secondly my G5 is not equipped with Intel, so wouldn't be compatible anyway.
I said that I would happily upgrade to Leopard, my local dealer told me to get in touch with Apple, pay £20.00 and they would send me the upgrade disk. Except when I tried to do this, they said that the upgrade is no longer available and, if I wanted to upgrade to Leopard it would cost me £83.00! I said how can you expect me to pay that amount for an OS that is actually an older version (Snow being the current), they couldn't or wouldn't answer. I then asked if, as I also owned a brand new MacBook Pro with Leopard, could I not use those disks on my G5 Desktop.  After all the OS is mine! I bought it when I bought the MacBook Pro.  Surely I can do what I like with it. I was told that the disks that come with the Laptop are different and I would not be able to use the MacBook Pro Leopard Disks on my G5 to go from Tiger up. I even offered to pay a fee for using my own Leopard disks on my other machine. But all I got was NO you have to buy a boxed version at £83.
Not only that, but if I did spend the £83 I not sure that will allow me to enable OpenGL anyway, and if does, will that cure my problem with the brush!
I also have a feeling that there are a number of other features in CS4 that I am unable to use, because of the lack of OpenGL. Such as being able to revolve the layer you are working on, if (for example) you were using a Pen tool and the angle was awkward, you could rotate or slide, move around the picture to assist you.
What's the general thinking guys? Would Leopard improve my G5? And could I use my MacBook Pro disks to install Leopard on my G5 or are they specific to the laptop?
    Many thanks
    Mark

    I'm running CS4 (11.0.1) on a G5 Quad 2.5Ghz under Mac OS X 10.4.11 (i.e. Tiger), with an Nvidia GeForce 6600LE graphics card.
I can use the the OpenGL features fine, including changing the brush size as you describe. So I don't think it's necessarily an issue with it being a G5 or running Tiger, but might be a graphics card issue if it's not on the "approved list":
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405711.html
...and yes, I know my card isn't on the list.
Have to say that I normally run with OpenGL off as most of the "features" are either irrelevant to what I use Photoshop for, actually detremental for me (e.g. the way zoom levels are displayed) or cosmetic interface frippery...

  • CS3 Upgrade to CS4

Hi  I am currently running with CS3 but I am intending to upgrade to CS4.  As I am often in the US I note that the upgrades are far cheaper than in the UK.  I was therefore looking to buy my upgrade in the US however I was wondering of there would be any problems updating a UK CS3 with a US CS4.
    Thanks

Although I’m quite impressed with some of the CS4-features, you might want to consider putting the investment off for a bit because the release of CS5 seems to be widely expected to happen this year (no official notification yet, though, as far as I know).

Note that many links to video tutorials, other Help documents, and white papers are still not functional, and the search doesnt really work yet. And commenting isnt turned on yet. This should all be fixed when we ship.
You may also want to take a sneak peak at the new community custom search engine, which is still under construction:

Feel free to contact me if you have suggestions for improving Help. Also, if you find any sites that should be included in the custom search engine, let me know: [email protected]

That's sweet! It's been frustrating hitting the dead link instead of actual help.
Right off the top of my head, the one thing I immediately notice would be that friendlier URLs would be nice. Any plans for them in the future?

  • Photosop CS4 graphics card question

    Hello,
I am looking into buying a new IMAC and was wondering about whether or not the graphics card that comes with it supports the new CS4 features. Does anyone know if the-
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO w/256MB card
-that comes with the IMAC supports all of the new features or would I need to upgrade?
The other card offered as an upgrade is the-
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3
I have not been able to find any specific information online
regarding whether or not these cards are supported.
The only information that I have found that was worth while said that the-
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO w/256MB card
-works better with final cut pro, which is a concern for me since I also use FCP.
    Any help would be appreciated.....Thanks!!!

I am a graphic artist and currently own a G4 desktop so it is time for a new machine. Knowing that the new creative suite will not work on my machine has motivated me to buy. My decision to choose the IMAC came about in many respects because of the 24 inch display. I'd rather have a larger display then have to use 2 monitors.
I have recently taken up video editing and also use final cut pro. I am aware that video work requires a more powerful machine in most cases. I do plan on upgrading the RAM to 4 gigs. In saying that, I do know that this may not substitute for a faster processor.
I have no experience with whether the IMAC can handle intensive video work so I appreciate those who have asked what it is I am using the machine for.
Buying the G5 desktop is a little out of my price range which is why I was considering the IMAC.
If anyone feels I am making a horrible mistake then by all means let me know.....
Also, thanks again for the links and all of the information.....
