CS4 Flash crashes repeatedly on saving

I've got a large(at least I assume it's large, ~200meg) flash file I'm working with that upon saving, it goes into the dreaded "(Not Responding)" mode.  Is this a symptom of being such a large file?  It's image intensive--I can try reducing the image quality--or is there something else I'm missing?  A known problem?  It now happens more often than not.  I'm on a toshiba laptop, using the latest version of windows.

Now a new problem--this began yesterday afternoon--when I open Flash and attempt to open my .fla file it will freeze, flash will display the dreaded "(not responding)" and after 10 minutes, it will load, but run slowly, and then eventually crash--usually when I try saving it after making changes.  THis is with nothing else running, CS4 updated and windows 7 updated, plenty of hd space, 4 gig ram, new laptop, etc.  Of course it happened during a presentation for the first time so I had to stall for 20 minutes until I could open the .swf file in reader to show people.
The swf file loads fine in reader and in web browers, and other .fla files open fine in flash CS4.  What could be the problem?  I can't work on the project anymore until this gets sorted.

  • Flash Crashes Repeatedly - Mac Lion OS / Firefox 7.0.1

I am running Firefox 7.1 and have had Adobe Flash repeatedly crash when trying to view videos on comcast.net and cbs.com.  I have updated Adobe Flash to the latest version (according to the Adobe site) and yet the crashes continue.  I need help.
    I am running:
    Mac 10.7.1. (Lion)
    Firefox 7.0.1
    Adobe Flash 10.3.183.10

i haven't seen a crashlog, so let me assume everyone has the same issue.  the root cause of the crashers are with non standard fonts.  when the player enumerates through these fonts the non standard fonts causes the player to fault.  there are a few ways to get through this issue.  pick one that you feel comfortable doing.
    try something new: level easy
we release FP 11.2 beta.  install this player version will take advantage of new code that handles the non standard fonts.  the player is beta and is watermarked, so keep this in mind.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/flashplayer11-2/
i want to use FP11: level moderate
there are 2 solutions to try.  one is a quick and dirty, but is not as thorough...
    solution 1:
move all the fonts from your /Users/<yourUsername>/Library/Fonts to another location (eg. your desktop).  you have the option to delete them if you don't ever plan to use them again
quit your browser and restart your browser
    solution 2:
this was outlined in another thread supplied by the user seantrue
    http://damnedfinesoftware.blogspot.com/2011/10/fsusage-when-adobe-flash-crashes-in.html
i don't want to use FP11, but would rather downgrade: level easy/moderate
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
download the uninstaller and run it
download the previous player version prior to FP11 (10,3,183,10)
    unpack and install
give one of them a try..
Note:  the solutions outline here apply to Safari and Firefox.  Chrome uses an embedded flash player plugin...  it's not advised, but you could disable the ebmedded plugin and make use or the installed alternative.

the crash analysis shows it's likely 1146036 – Adobe Flash 17.0.0.134/169 crashing on Flash thread in libGL.dylib in FF 34 and up which makes sense (crash on retina displays with flash hardware acceleration on)  Unfortunately there's no clear fix yet other than turning off acceleration as a workaround...

  • Flash Crashing... CS4

Okay Adobe, I purchased CS3 and Acrobat didn't work. So you
forced me to purchase 3.3 just to get a piece of software that
should have worked with CS3. Now I'm having the same type of
problem with CS4. Flash crashes over 15 times a day and it's really
effecting my workflow. There's no fix and tech support has no idea.
I've been working with a senior engineer and they don't know how to
fix this either. It's been going on for months. I have inside
information that they are making a dot release to fix these issues
of crashing. They are also going to charge extra for it just like
CS3.3. How is this right? If someone else made Flash and I weren't
a full Flash development company then I would use another
company!!! This is crap! If this is the case I will never pay for
another piece of software from Adobe.
If you advertise your software as compatitble with my
computer and I spend $2600 on the software, it should work. I
shouldn't have to come back 6 months later and pay an additional
amount to pay for your mistakes!
If you're having this problem, contact me, I'm taking action.
Macromedia would have never behaved like this. It's very poor
    business practice!
An Adobe wonders why so many people steal their software,
they're probably tired of getting ripped off, like me, twice!!!
Google this - flash cs4 crashing during publish - and you'll
see it's not just me. However their tech support just had me
purchase $600 more in video cards because they said it was my cards
and I was the only one anywhere having this issue, NOPE!!! New
cards = still crashing... And both sets of cards are on the CS4
    page of recommended cards!!!

    What's changed on your system?
Can you post a crash report?

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended Crashes Since Updating Acrobat to 9.3

I have CS4 Web Premium. When I save a document in pdf format from Photoshop(PS) CS4, it normally opens the saved document in Acrobat 9.x. Up until yesterday, when I installed the Acrobat 9.3 update, the results have always been to have then have the document open in both Acrobat and PSCS4. No problem.  Now, however, when I save a pdf document in PSCS4, the document, after an unusually long lag after clicking the "save pdf" button in PSCS4, opens in Acrobat as before BUT Photoshop Crashes; an error says that PS experienced an error and will be closed....
I would like to know how to correct this, if possible. Alternatively, I would like to uninstall the update to Acrobat, since everything worked great before I installed it. Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have already tried the repair function in Acrobat and the problem did not
resolve. However, in photoshop, when in the Save PDF prefs dialog appears, I
unchecked "view pdf". Now Photoshop no longer opens Acrobat to view the pdf
there, but also it no longer crashes. I can live with that. A lot less
trouble then resintalling Acrobat, with each of the incremental updates. I
have Acrobat  installed also on a second computer, but will not be updating
    that computer to Acrobat 9.2.
    Thank you.

  • Flash Crashes on clicking import to stage

I'm having an issue with a blank open document, clicking on 'import to stage' will crash the program or clicking on 'import to library' will crash the program.  I have tried uninstalling CS4 and re-installing CS4. The problem remains the same.
    Any ideas, I'm desparate.
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply, and yes I can copy and paste. I did find a post that
mentioned compatibility mode which I did try and it cleared everything up.
The strange part to this is that everything worked fine until a few days
ago. I think it may have to do with all the security patches that the
company I work for jams down our systems on what seems like a weekly
basis. But thanks for the reply, I do appreciate it.

  • Flash crashed on publish

Ok, this is an odd one: I have Flash CS3 and was editing a
file. I'd published it loads of times and then came back to it. As
soon as I tried to publish it, flash crashed. I'm now left with a
version of Flash where I can create a new file and publish without
a problem ... but ... if I save the file and then attempt to
    publish it, flash crashes.
Also, if I open a saved file; and then right click on a
frame; then select 'actions', flash crashes ... but ... if I create
a new file, then right click on a frame, actions opens properly.
Adobe have had this for a week now and still no resolution
other than making me re-install the whole thing.
Does anyone else have a suggestion (or a fix!)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

I'm also getting the ill-fated publish/crash bug after having
published a Flash file numerous times. I've also done a complete
uninstall/reinstall of Flash and no luck. Seems to allow me to
publish smaller files, but the one FLA file that crashes is about
    20MB.
Have a very visible client who absolutely needs the site
updated tomorrow and it's looking bleak right now...

  • Photos App crashing repeatedly!

My iPad has been crashing repeatedly whenever the enlarged black photo on the below is touched. The "white" pictures were merely edited for privacy. However, when I scroll from the picture directly left of the black one to the black one, it also crashes. I've rebooted, but am hesitant to fully reformat the device.
Has anyone else been having similar issues?
Does anyone know of any fixes for this?
    http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/monkeysmine/asdfasdf-1.png

Not that I know of. I had the same problem which was solved by accessing the files. I used this method, which is actually mentioned in another thread-
    http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/how-to-fix-iphone-camera-roll-crash-and-phot os-turned-to-other-in-itunes/
Now, I was going to test a theory, but it involves restoring your iPhone.  I WAS going to do this, but then I found the method in the link above, which was much faster.  My theory is that it might be a corrupted/damaged photo that's saved in Photostream.  I was thinking that, maybe if you reset your Photostream through iCloud, then restore your iPhone from a backup, it might work.  Again, I didn't test this because the method in the link works in minutes.

  • Adobe Flash crashes

In the past day, Adobe Flash has crashed repeatedly. When it does it freezes FF so that I can't perform any other operation. Is there any other fix other than uninstalling & installing the most recent version prior to this one?

Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder to rebuild the plugin registry.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
You can set the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:plugins
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers via the navigator.plugins object, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.

  • Flash crash with Facebook Scrabble

    Flash Crash with Facebook Scrabble
I've grown accustomed to Facebook Scrabble crashing the Safari on my MacBook at least once or twice a day.
I noticed that a friend, whose MacBook's OS is updated but has never updated Flash, mentioned that their machine never crashes.
My daughter used my computer last night and when Safari crashed she said that she's never seen that before. I assume that her MacBook, similarly, never updated Flash.
I don't know if this is a meaningful pattern, or not, but it appears that my computer, fully up to date with the most current Flash version, crashes repeatedly, but Macbooks with (presumably) older versions, never having upgraded are stable.
Is it possible to get an older version of Flash?

Thanks for your reply. I can only speak of Flash Player in general, since I work with PC's. My sister has an iMac and I know there is a "finder" and a "Library", so you can see my knowledge is very very limited. Having said that, it may be helpful for you to find out what version of Flash Player the others have. If you have the latest (10.0.45.2) then that would give you some info to compare to.
Then I wouldn't judge Safari or the Flash Player version by just one website. If that is happening, it could be that the website has not updated and may not support the latest version of Flash Player which I assume you have Installed.
Should it be happening on various websites, then you could assume something like an add on is conflicting. Adblock or pop up blocker software can actually block Flash content. An Anti-Virus component can as well. Perhaps you can compare add ons with the others that aren't having a problem.
I can say that many users of the PC have issues with Facebook and the various games. You may want to contact either one and ask if they support vs 10.0.45.2. Others have done so and the response varies as to their opinion as to the cause.
I hope this will give you some direction that you can take to find a solution. One final bit of info. Let's say Facebook supports the latest version and you don't have any adblock or pop up blocking software and all of your Flash files are Installed correctly. With a PC, in IE, an ActiveX Control is needed to work with the Flash files. In Firefox the SWF is needed.
    Thanks,

  • Flash crashes when opening certain file

    Hey Guys,
I need some big help here...I have been working on the same file for the past several weeks and now when I open it, flash crashes. I have tried opening it on multiple systems with different operating systems. Nothing is working. Any ideas?
    I am using CS4 on a MAC.
    Thanks!

    Hi Joseph,
I've looked into your file and it looks like what ever you have on Layer 7 causes Flash to crash. Once I remove that layer then the file open without issue. If you want a copy of the restored file, please send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to include a link to this thread in your email so I can relate back to this message.

  • Flash Crashes on startup

I just downloaded and installed the Flash CS4 trial off of the adobe website. Installation worked perfectly just like all other adobe products but when I try and start Flash it crashes on me before it even starts. It hangs up on initializing fonts most of the time but that is not 100% of the time. I used font agent pro to look at all my fonts and find all corrupt fonts, after this I deleted all corrupt fonts and continued to get the same error so then I deleted all fonts that did not come with windows so right now I am left with about 100 fonts that I know work as I have tested them all on word. No other adobe product fails to load on me including: Photoshop Indesign Premiere Soundbooth Dreamweaver Illustrator.... etc. please help! I have been looking through different forums and all of the web for the past 5 hours straight and have never not been able to fix something like this.
FYI I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash serveral times even from different unofficial sources and I continue to get the same error.
    HELP ANYBODY

sounds like a corrupt font - please be more specific when
posting about flash crashing - you never
mention what platform/OS system specs you are on.

  • Flash Crashing - CS6 - File Corrupt

    Hi All,
A couple of our users are having issues with Flash Pro CS6. They are having the issue intermittently and are unable to force the issue to occur. Please see below notes for further information.
Any help would be appreciated as we have run out of ideas!
I tried a chat session, however, it seems CS6 is not supported through chat...
    Flash Issue Notes
    Using Flash Pro v6
Saving files as Flash Pro v5.5
We have tried using four different computers, the latest one is Windows 7 Pro i7 processor 16GB RAM. On a gigabit network connection.
Has error when saving “Unable to save the document as “W:\x\x\test.fla”. Please try saving to a different filename or to a different location.
Upon saving the second time flash crashes and currupts the origional file – the new file is 0kb in size – when opening origional file we get Ünrecognised file format.
When saving again flash crashes and makes the original file corrupt – it is something to do with the DOMDocument.xml in the “Zipped” .fla file.
When repairing the zip file the DOMDocument.xml file is the only one that cannot be recovered.
Error also occurs when working on file from C:\ drive.
Cannot upgrade to Flash CC as we need active script 2

reset your preferences, FAQ: How do I reset Flash professional to default configurations and preferences?
if that fails to fix the problem, start your computer in safe mode and see if the problem occurs.
    if it does, update windows.
if it does not, you have some non-windows program causing the problem.

  • CS4 continuously crashes when moving a layer?

    Hi there,
I'm experiencing an extremely irritating bug that causes CS4 to crash whenever moving a layer.
I'm on OSX 10.6.4, the camera raw is 5.7 and the version of CS4 is 11.
I have tried re-installing CS4 twice now and there is now change.
Every timer a layer is moved there's a crash.
If there's anyone who can maybe offer a little advice, I'd be very grateful.
    Tomas

11 might be a bit old, have you never updated Photoshop at all?
    Boilerplate-text:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences vou’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
