CS4, FM 9, two monitors ... luxury problem!

Two monitors, given all the pods and panels that now enrich the user-experience, is not a luxury; I appreciate, however, having managed to persuade my benevolent employers to let me have the second one.
The slight problem, though, is that when I have (say) Illustrator and FrameMaker open, switching from one to the other in the main monitor makes no difference to the pods displayed in the secondary monitor. So, for instance, I bring Illustrator to the front and still have a pod offering Conditional Text, Anchored Frame, Attributes and so on. Does anyone know if it's possible to make all the pods from the 'background' application tidily disappear?
As far as I know, I'm running a corporate tweak of XP ...
N

I also run those two apps at the same time on two monitors. Yes, the pods for the background app do not disappear. I do not know whether there is anything in Windows that one can set to get the behavior you want. On the Mac, one can hide background apps; but do not know if there is something comparable in Windows. I just make sure I am clicking in the correct pod.
You might try setting it up so that Frame's main window is on one monitor and Illustrator's main window is on the other monitor. Then put each app's pods on its opposite monitor. Then at least the pods will not be overlapping; and it will be easier to distinguish between pods and the background document window. You can force an app to open its window on the other monitor by UN-maximizing it, moving the window to the other monitor, and then maximizing it. The next time you start the app, it opens on the other monitor.
If you, or anyone else, finds a way to hide background apps, please let me know.

  • NativeBoot with two monitors

    Hi,
I have machine with windows 8.1 where i wanted to host development environment - Windows 2012 Server. I decided to try Hyper-V Client and everything seems to work fine.  When i boot to Windows 8.1, then connect via RDP to my developer machine with Windows
2012 Server. But i found out, that there is nice feature which allows me to boot to Windows 2012 directly. I checked that and found a little performance boost using it. But like always nothing is so great as looks on paper and i got problem connecting two
monitors. In RDP connection i can span to two monitors without problem, but using native boot just duplicate screen. In Device Manager -> Display Adapters i see only one monitor, and one display adapter (Microsoft Basic Display Adapter).
I haven't found any information about limitation of connected monitors using native boot. Is it possible?

"Native Boot" means that you are not running in a VM, the VHD is booted just like a physical drive and the OS is running on the bare metal.
I am guessing that you need to redetect the display adapter when booted this way or install a 3rd party driver.

  • Two monitors, one iMac, mirroring problem

Here is the background: I want to stay healthy. All this sitting is killing me (and us).
So I attached a 23 inch Apple Cinema HD Display to my 16 GB memory (max) 27 inch iMac Intel Core i5 using a little adaptor. I have one screen up on a tall desk (so I can stand) and one on a lower desk (so I can sit) - this makes no difference to the problem here but, I want to give you a reason why I am asking a question. I use a wired Apple keyboard with the iMac and wireless with the Cinema HD. It all works great. Except for one problem.
I need to mirror the two (not mirroring would not make sense or work as it is essentially just two monitors in different user spots plus 2-3 feet apart on different levels + the menus and windows only stay on one screen for non mirroring - a pain). I only need one screen at a time.
When I mirror, the Cinema HD looks fine but the iMac shrinks down in size. When I choose the 2560 x 1440 iMac size, the iMac just goes back to the smaller 1920 x 1200 and says “Usable resolution 1920 x 1200”.
What is going on and, is there a fix I can employ to regain the lost screen real estate on the iMac screen? The 1920 x 1200 does not look as good on the iMac and the dock icons shrink to be unusable too.

You have a few options which are detailed here:

  • M92p HELP!!! About to return 6 new M92p due to Problems with two monitors.

Hope someone can help. Just unpacked last week six (6) brand new M92p with dual 24" monitors. Unfortunatelly the monitors are NOT from Lenovo since Lenovo does not sell color calibrated monitors.
The problem we are having is that we have tried connecting the two monitors using different conbinations of the 3 or 4 available video connectors on the back of the machine.
only ONE monitor works at 1920x1200, the other defaults to 640x480.
All the machines have a video card with 2GB. The video card has a DVI and a VGA port. The motherboard has VGA and DisplayPort. We tried one cable to DVI on video card the other on VGAon video card. Then we tried One cable on video card another on motherboard.
I also disable the motherboard video in BIOS; that did not work either.
NOTHING works!!! I am about to repack all these equipment and send them back.
If anyone has any solution to this issue, please let me know.
    Thanks!

Possible driver issue. Have you run Windows Update and Lenovo System Update?

  • Two monitor problem in CS3

    Hello all,
With CS3 I am using a two monitor setup with the workspace at left (monitor 1) and all palettes at right. This setup works fine, but now and again, after minimizing PS (doing something else) and maximizing again, the image has disappeared from the workspace and hides behind the palettes on the right hand monitor. As this happens infrequently, I tend to forget that it hides there and this is very confusing.
Is there a setting I am missing that keeps the images on the workspace?
    Regards,  Sander Stols

    sanderstols wrote:
I am very sorry, but it seems I still haven't explained the problem clearly enough.
    1) The setup is as you have it: primary at left - workspace on the primary.
    2) Then I open an image (using the context menu; or dragging it from the Explorer window; or re-opening it from the PS File menu).
    3) Most of the time the image opens on the workspace, but not always.
    4) Sometimes the image opens on the secondary monitor and hides behind the palettes.
That is it. I want to do away with the situation 4) - it is confusing, especially as it happens only now and again.
    Regards,  Sander Stols
mmm... keep PS maximised on the primary monitor and a new image will open in the workspace. It's when it is not maximised that it could open outside the workspace....
In 2) above, dragging from Win Explorer to the PS workspace will open it there. Re-opening from the PS file menu may open outside the workspace unless PS is maximised.
I just tried out various permutations and combos and as i said, keep PS maximised on the primary monitor and a new image will open/re-open in the workspace.
If that doesn't help, try resetting your workspace, closing PS and reopening as maximised on the primary monitor.
    Hope that helps...

  • Problem Connecting Two Monitors

Just set up a new HP Mini 300-30 with two monitors. Monitor connection is through a device I bought that has HDMI cable connecting to back of HP Mini and two outlets on device to connect two monitors using VGA cables that came with each monitor. Monitors work but are set up with mirror image and I have not been able to find a way to make each monitor run indpendently. If I use keyboard and press Windows key + P it brings up a screen where I can select monitor options. I select the option to run separate monitors but nothing happens. I believe I have tried everything but the correct way.

  • HT5019 How do I get extended display mode on two monitors off a MB?

I've tried to find answers on other threads but no luck. Is it possible to connect two monitors to a 2008 unibody MB (mavericks) to use extended display? I've never had a problem with using one monitor (mini dvi to vga) as an extended display and now I'd like to add a second monitor via a vga splitter. I thought upgrading to mavericks would solve this but no luck. It's only letting me mirror displays. The "arrangement" option in display prefs not available.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I never for one second thought this would be so complicated.

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

I have a HP P6 2000 UKM computer, running windows 7 and it has a DVI D socket as well as the standard VGA (which i am using for my primary monitor)  I have got the right DVI  to VGA adaptor and have followed various instructions to set up duel disply but every tutorial i have seen says use the multiple display option,  but the option dropdown box is not there!
Iv'e tried two different monitors but he same problem. If my graphics card does not suport 2 monitors then why is there a DVI D socket?
Have never had this problem in the past!

  • G5 DVI to VGA Dell Monitor Connection problems, need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hello,
I'm running two dell monitors both of which were connected via DVI to my g5 quad dual dvi. My tv broke and I'm using one of my monitors to connect the cable boxes HDMI input to the dells DVI input, it works great.
My problem is that i still want to run two monitors from my mac and still be able to switch channel sources from the Dells source button allowing me to switch from TV to Mac. Since I took up the dvi port on one of my monitors to connect to the cable box via HDMI, I have a free DVI cable. I purchased a tiny converter that allowed to change one end of the free DVI cable to VGA. I used this method to connect the cable to my g5's dvi port and the configured end to the VGA port on the monitor with no luck.
The Dell monitor does not pick up any signal and just goes to sleep as if my computer does not exist. The TV works fine and I'm able to switch sources. Please note that I'm not using the DVI-VGA adaptor that came with my g5 and don't know if this would make a difference. If it does, how do i set this up because this adaptor is like 5 inches long.
Does the adaptors DVI end need to be connected to the back of the g5 or does the VGA end need to be connected to the monitor or does it not matter. I need a longer dvi-vga cable as well, do they make them. This all depends if the problem actually is that that I'm not using the DVI-VGA cable that came with my mac to connect to the monitor in the first place.
Can anyone help me out here. I'm using the Dell 2208WFP Ultra Sharp.

    Bad adapter?
The G5 ports are DVI-I. Any good DVI-I to VGA adapter should be fine.

  • How can i use two monitors in my application?

    Hello,
    Background
I have a dual monitor card and two monitors which I want to use in my LabView application. The application gathers data from a complex sensor and calculates a number of results which need to be displayed graphically, this happens every 10 seconds or so. There is an awful lot of graphs which may be needed to be seen at some time but not routinely. The idea is that one monitor will display all the standard routinely displayed things and will not have any user input whilst the second monitor will display a tab control which has all the other graphs pickable.
    Question
What I want to know is how I can programmatically tell labVIEW to put one vi up in one monitor and another vi in the other. I would then have them both maximised (which I know how to do). I would rather have the monitors set up as individual and that way I could keep the windows control bar on one monitor only. Thus one monitor would be a true user interface and the other simply a display.
Basically how do I tell LabVIEW to use one monitor for a specific vi and not the other.
The card I have is a matrox p650. Any comments would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Kevin

    Hallo,
with new version of LV its more easy, but it also hasn't any troubles with LabVIEW 6.x or 7.x.
Especially with Matrox P650 you will get no any problems (we using
exactly this card together with G550 and our application supported
three monitors at the same time.).
I recommend to you following sequence:
    - After installing driver turn on option for supporting different
resoluton on different monitors. As result you will get two absolutely
    separate monitors.
    - In Windows define which one is primary and which one is secondary.
(On primary monitor located taskbar and all messages dialog boxes will
    appear.).
    - Arrange secondary monitor in display properties - where he located (left from primary, or right)
    - In your VI (which must appear on second monitor) use
FrontPanel.PanelBounds Property Node for positioning. You must set four
values for two corners. Easiest way to found right values is following:
read this property node in while loop and put indicator on front panel.
Then run VI, drag front panel onto second monitor and resize if
necessary, and then you will see right values for PanelBounds. You can
write this property node programmatically in run-time too.
    hope it help,
    good luck.

I had the same problem and it was driving me nuts.  Thanks to conradchavez.com Blog.
Multiple displays: If you put panels (including the Tools panel) on a secondary display and then switch applications, those panels may snap back to the primary display when you switch back. To avoid this, open System Preferences, click Mission Control, and turn off Displays Have Separate Spaces. Mavericks ships with that option on, so if you want to position Adobe application panels and windows on multiple displays you should turn off that option.
You will have to log out before it works.  It worked for me.
    Tankyou very mutch!!!!
    Now is all perfectly funzionally!!!!

I AM TRYING TO HOOK UP TWO MONITORS AT THE SAME TIME. I have had no success in figuring out why I can get an image on my TV and an image on my monitor (at the same time), but no icons, no start menu and no keyboard access. M y computer freezes as well when I try to do 2 monitors.

    Hi,
    Your machine has:
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Radeon HD 6370D, 6410D, 6530D or 6550D Graphics (model dependent based on processor)
Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
Two DVI-D ports (Both ports can be used at the same time)
You can use TWO monitors with the right connections for two ports #3 above. You can get more information from the following instructions:

  • Mac mini, thunderbolt and two monitors

    Hi all,
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini, and a 27" LED Cinema display.  I want to connect two monitors to the mini.  I was thinking about buying a 27" Thunderbolt display to connect via the Thunderbolt port, then daisy chaining the LED Cinema (via mini-DP) to the Thunderbolt display.  Will this work?
Any other suggestions would be welcomed as well.
    Thanks.
    John

Does your comment mean that you use the Thunderbolt disk drive inbetween LED cinema display and the Thunderbolt display ie. you plug the MDP cable coming out of the LED display into the TB drive, and then use the other TB port on the drive to plug into the Thunderbolt display?? I assume then into the computers TB port..?
    Yes.
A couple of things if I'm getting this right...does this mean the drive is useless as a drive and is rather just acting as a hub?? I'm assuming this because there are no ports left on the drive to actually plug it into the computer
The drive will work.  It gets its data connection to the computer through the Thunderbolt display's connection.
2nd I've heard that a thunderbolt port can only support 1 MDP device in it's chain, and it is has to be last in the chain before connection?? Does this not cause a problem? Having said that I have my 24" LED apple display connected through a TB drive and it is the drive that connects last and works fine (after I updated the displays frimware to stop the flicker it caused).
What do you mean by "before connection"?  The MDP device is the last in the chain, not the disk drive.
