CS4 Fonts coming in as pink boxes

Why, even though my preferences for the document set up have Times New Roman OTF as the standard... Why when I paste text in, does it always come in as pink boxes even though the font Iis there and opened in FontAgent Pro? Thank you.

Check the [Basic Paragraph] style and the font spec with nothing selected.
Is this text copied internally or externally, and if external, what's the setting for what to include in your prefs for Clipboard Handling?

  • CS4: Font not missing, but glyph doesn't show

I have a Word 2003 document that I am trying to import as a test file. It has 2 sets of symbols: greater than or equal to and less than or equal to, one set in Times New Roman and the other in Symbol (PostScript).
I have InDesign CS2 and CS4 on my computer (PC, Win XP). When I place this file in CS2, all symbols are fine.
When I place it in CS4, the Times New Roman symbols are fine, but the Symbol font symbols appear as pink boxes. Find Font does not show any missing fonts, and selecting the box reveals that CS4 knows it is in Symbol font.
When I look at the Glyphs palette in both CS2 and CS4, I see both symbols are there and both have the same codes (GID:98/Unicode:2264 and GID:114/Unicode:2265).
I've pored over the import settings in CS2 and I don't see anything different.
So what is going on? How can I get this font to appear correctly in CS4?

The other option that springs immediately to mind is to pre-process the Word files with VBA. Characters in Symbol font in Word are sometimes just like any other character, but occasionally Word likes to make them into, dang it I can't remember what it's called. It basically surrounds them with field codes which are invisible to the end user. (Wordperfect -> Word conversions are particularly troublesome in this regard.) Changes to InDesign's Word/RTF file importer have caused a wide variety of Word dirty tricks to import with varying degrees of success over the years, so I'm unsurprised to learn that CS4 is failing to import your symbols where CS2 was successful.
Unless you're far more comfortable with VBA in Word than with JS in ID, I'd say: use Jongware's script. Or (as he mentioned in his linked thread) try saving as RTF before placing, before you start trying to automate the find/replace process in one of the two apps.

  • Imported text from word, all missing fonts found, but still have pink boxes for Turkish language

    Hi,
I placed a document from word. The body font is ITC Garamond. Apparently ITC Garamond doesn't have some Turkish characters. Adobe Garamond however, does. So I was going through and selecting each pink box and changing the character to a new character style I created which is the Adobe Garamond Font. Surely there's an easier way to do this rather than me selecting each pink box? Can GREP do this? I would use the Find Font dialogue, but it shows all fonts as being fine, it doesn't show any missing fonts. So this seems to just be a wierd issue with ITC Garamond not having those special characters.
I know what you're thinking, why not just make my body font Adobe Garamond Pro.... Well I can't right now. Not for this job. Maybe in the future I will, but for not it has to stay ITC Garamond condensed Book.
Also, I should note that in the preflight panel, InDesign does not show the document as having any missing Glyphs either.... so Peter's Glyph script won't work.
    Thanks in advance.

In your case I would not add or change a character style, change your paragraph style. A mix between 2 similar fonts looks terrible. You might need a character style for language purposes, to get through with hyphenation correctly, but this is a different thing.
To change a font globally go to search font and replace and redefine styles.
But if you really does not want to change the font you can crate a character style. And in your paragraph style go to GREP styles and select this chara style and write all glyphs and letters where you need this character style.
Take care, if you use a different font you might have to scale in advanced properties, so that a glyph from the other form fits to the rest of the text.

  • How to find pink boxes using Find

I need to find the pink boxes in my indesign project using find. Is there any way to do this? I thought maybe they were considered a discretionary ligature, so i tried searching for that, but no luck. Maybe if I can search for characters by color (pink)? The reason I need to do this is because I imported a text chunk (over 5000 pages) that contained Tahoma lines and lines of a second foreign font intermingled with each other. I imported it all as Tahoma, but need to change all the pink box lines to the other font, so they will display, if i can use find and replace all to navigate the pink boxes, this will be very smooth, otherwise I have to manually change line by line, which is slow over many pages. Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

Are those the pink boxes that appear for "Character Not In Font"?
You can search 'by color', but the pink is just a warning highlight -- of course there is no actual pink in your document! (As both Preview and an export to PDF will show.)
Starting with CS4, you can use Live Preflight to find missing characters: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WSBE0B9F5B-635C-43f8-859F-00DFFD0F5567.html
Make a new Preflight profile; in the Text section, select both "Font Missing" ('cause it's always useful) and "Glyph Missing" (which is what you are after).
Pre-CS4, you need sharp eyes and a bit of patience.

  • I just started using a new version of Illustrator and the text I am creating has a pink box behind, looks to be about the depth of the normal linespace, it is not visible in outline view, only in preview. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

Hi Larry. I see. It is a file I have worked on previously, and the font is Myriad which I though came with the system. I just changed to Myriad Pro and the pink box disappeared. Thanks for the assistance, I know a new thing!

  • I've been working with documents in pages and recently downloaded word for mac. i open the pages documents and they appear to be corrupt. at least, a lot of the font is now in weird boxed pictures. what do i do?

I've been working with documents in Pages and recently downloaded Word for Mac. Upon opening Pages documents with Pages, the documents appear corrupt. Much of the font has been replaced with boxed little pictures - yet they are identified as times new roman. What do I do?

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

  • Change font name/size in text box

I am trying to create a Pages document with text boxes and would like to use different fonts and sizes in each box. I've tried using
      make text box with properties {object text:receipt_date, vertical position:7, horizontal position:2.5, height:0.5, width:3, font name:"Courier", font size:24.0}
    but it doesn't work.
    Any help gratefully received.

I see two things; you should "make new text box" and font name and font size are properties of the text, not the text box.
    The following worked for me:
    set the_text to "Hello World!"
    tell application "Pages"
              tell front document
                        set new_box to make new text box with properties {object text:the_text, vertical position:2, horizontal position:1, height:3, width:4}
                        set properties of object text of new_box to {font name:"Courier", font size:24.0}
              end tell
    end tell
Edit: The "set new_box to" part isn't needed unless you want to refer to the box again in the script.

  • Adobe InDesign CS4 fonts - where'd they go?

Using a PC.  I work for a municipal govt which finally upgraded me from adobe CS to CS4 this past year.  I mostly use InDesign for my work publications and was thrilled to have some new fonts with the new CS4 on my system (fonts like Baveuse, Blue Highway, Burnstown Dam, Carbon Block, Kredit, Earwig Factory, Hurry Up, Planet Benson2, Teen, Pupcat and more).
But within the last month, all of these particular fonts (and others) have totally disappeared.  I can't use them at all in InDesign now.  So how do I get them back?  Were these particular fonts on a certain install disk?  My IT dept reinstalled the entire suite yesterday, but it didn't bring back the missing fonts...
Also where are fonts supposed to be stored on my computer? (If they are supposed to be in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Fonts - there's nothing in this folder at all.)
I am by no means an expert with CS4, so if you can give me any help, please give it to me in layperson terms.  I'm trying to do the best I can here. I appreciate your responses in advance. Thanks!

Also where are fonts supposed to be stored on my computer? (If they are supposed to be in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Fonts - there's nothing in this folder at all.)
Well, you can put fonts there, just by dragging them off the disks and dropping them in to that folder - if you do that, then InDesign can use the fonts, but no other programs will be able to do so.
You didn't say which version of Windows you were using, but if you're using Windows 7, you can right-click on any font file and choose "Install" depending on your system settings. That will make the fonts available to all the programs on your computer, not just InDesign. If your IT department understands that you're an InDesign user who needs to be able to install fonts, that method will work. If it doesn't work, it'll give you an error message that is probably NOT "Hey, you're not allowed to install fonts" but "These font files are corrupt." If you see that, it probably means that your IT department has not given you the power of installing fonts, which means they'd need to do it.
In Windows XP, you actually have to navigate to the Fonts folder (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Fonts) and then choose File -> Install Font.

  • Pink box flashes upon loading where jpgs are supposed to be

When I load my pages in the browser, a pink box flashes where the jpgs are. After a split second the correct image loads. It does this the first time the page is opened, then it seems to be ok. I get the same results in Safari, Firefox, Explorer, and on my android phone. HELP! Site can be viewed here: http://www.riverinnhanover.com/test/

Issue resolved. The default fill for the jpgs was set to pink. Sounds like a stupid mistake, but I just didn't see it! Why it defaulted to pink I will probably never know. Simple fix, after hours of trying everything else under the sun.

  • Undesirable mail kept coming in my mail box., undesirable mail kept coming in my mail box.

how to block unwanted mail from coming in to my box?
    They are all publicities.?

Continuation of info (from GDTGG): When I leave that mail message and click on a different one, the blank line marking its place once again appears for the message.  (There was a similar problem posted by someone else in 2009 entitled "Inbox Has Blank Lines" but with no apparent solution that I could find.)

  • Photoshop CS4 freezes when adding text to box.

Typing text into a rectangle box freezes Photoshop with the unclose-able error box "Could not complete your request because of a program error"
Force quit and clean-start with command-option-shift Start Photoshop and still same error. I can type text into the box for about 10-20 characters and then error box again.
Using PS CS4 v11.0 with OS 10.5.6 with G5 Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC accessing files on external firewire drive.
    Any suggestions?

    Right you are.
    Corrupted font cache(s).
Cleaned out and dumped all caches with Cocktail and restarted clean. A-OK now.
    Thank you.

  • Opening CS3 file in CS4 - fonts wrong!

I have an FLA created in CS3 (Mac). It includes a couple of
fonts that were made into symbols. I'm both using those symbols to
set the font for dynamic text boxes on stage in various symbols (by
selecting the font-name-with-asterisk from the font menu), and in
    Actionscript to create text.
When I open the file in CS4, wherever I have used the menu
option (selecting the font with asterisk in its name), when I
select the box the font menu is showing a DIFFERENT font. And when
I publish none of that text shows up!
The font names with asterisks are still in the font list, but
now they're in a separate section separated by a line from the
    regular font list.
I'm not sure what to do - am I stuck using CS3 for the life
of this file? I'm not even sure how many text fields are in this
document, scattered among a number of symbols. If it was just a few
I could probably just manually re-select the font for each. I mean,
I assume I could do that...?
Is there a global find/replace option to fix this? Is this a
    known bug?
    - Bob

I'm sorry to say this, but you're stuck with CS3. This also
happened to me and I couldn't solve it by now.

  • Adobe Flash CS4 Font Problem

    Hi
I am currently designing a banner in Flash CS4 for a website with falling snow animation etc. However, when I export it the text is not showing as the correct font. I have tried embedding the font but this still doesn't seem to be working. This is causing a big problem as it is for a client and the font I have used cannot be changed. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi kqlad
When it is in the test environment it is showing as the correct font as I have the font on my laptop. However, when I export it and send it to my collegue via e-mail it is not coming up as the correct font. Its coming up as a serif-font bit like times new roman, rather than the modern sans-serif font it should be.
    Thanks

  • CS2 to CS4 font issue

    Hoping someone can help
I have designed a document using InDesign CS2. I have set all the Paragraph styles up etc
However, when I then transfer the document to a Mac running CS4, the document opens but tells me some of the fonts are missing. If I update the fonts to those on the machine running CS4 the document is OK. But changing the fonts on the CS4 document does not update the fonts on the library of Paragraph Styles I have created. Does anyone know why or whether I'm simply doing something wrong in the transfer process?
    Advice would be appreciated!

I don't think there is on CS2 - see grab below of the dialogue box I have...

  • Font specified in Text entry box not what shows in playback

    Hi,
I specified 10pt. Arial in my text entry boxes, but the text
shows up much smaller. Only sometimes. Any idea why? Is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Deepali

Try selecting all the text in the caption and setting it to
10 pt arial even if it is already set that way. Sometimes there are
invisible formatting characters embedded in the text. Be sure to
delete any blank characters or lines that appear after the text -
these can hold formatting characters also.
If none of this helps delete the caption and start again
making sure your font is set correctly before you start typing.
Also be sure not to copy and edit a caption that has give you
trouble, even if it is fixed now.
    A useful hint:
If you are cutting and pasting text from another application
(such as Word) copy it to Notepad first, then reselect it and copy
it to Captivate. This strips spurious formatting characters.
