Is there a way to change the default export filetype in Illustrator CS4 for Mac OSx

Hi,
I do a significant amount of exporting from Illustrator and always need my images exported as JPG. The default filetype for exporting in CS4 (for mac) is PNG, and I can't find a way to change this. Since I always want to export as JPG, I feel like I should be able to set that as a default.
Am I missing something? How can I change this default?

You can create an action.
Record the action then go to file export select jpeg and then the quality etc and then exort and stop recording the action give it a keyboard shortcut.

Photoshop CS4 for Mac What can cause the error: Plug-in failed to load - NO VERSION

With Photoshop CS4 for Mac I install the Kodak Plug-in DIGITAL GEM Airbrush Professional v2.1.0. When Photoshop starts I get an error:

This plug-in works fine on my Mac Pro with Photoshop CS4 and OS 10.6 but fails on a new Macbook Air.
Reinstalling the plug-in did not make any difference. What can cause this error?

Thanks Chris, That was my first thought too but this same plug-in works on another installation of CS4. This is a Mac installation and the plug-in is Universal so it should work. Is there any other possible cause for this error? Would Photoshop refuse to load a plug-in in a low memory situation?
Also, The Flash extensions:Connections and Kuler are working OK, I just copied a little more out of the System Info report than I needed to.

How do I de-install Adobe Premiere CS4 for mac so I can re-install it? I think you have to do more than just throw it in the trash right?

I have not done it yet for if you want to reinstall Adobe CS4 Premiere for Mac you have to reinstall the entire suite. ALSO I purchased Quick Time Pro and it will NOT open MPEG files so that I can convert them to MOV files to get my timeline back up and running.eeeerrrrrr
thaks gueys for the previous messages...In short my MPEGs in my timeline are all Pending (they were working fine for months. My .mov files in Adobe Premiere are fine still. I just don't want to lose all of my editing! I need help trying to get my MPEGS working again and don't want to have to re-edit.

Most Adobe software is written for one of two platforms, Mac or PC. In order to switch platforms you need to be using the most current version, so CS4 would not be supported for making this switch. Here is a link to a page that explains the requirements for switching platforms....

unfortunately, adobe only offers cross-grades for current versions of software, and not previous versions. so, you cannot use cs4 for mac.

CS4 for Mac AND PC?

Hi All!
I hope someone can help.
My other half has CS3 on the Mac but it's disintegrating because he discovered (after buying it new legitimately) that it was already registered to someone else! He's contacted Adobe about this in the past but they haven't done anything to help.After trying to uninstall and reinstall (Adobe advised this) , which resulted in more grief , he's decided to buy CS4.
Right - here's where we need advice.
He's doing an honours degree in Wildlife Photography so will get a student version.
However - he needs a version that he can use on both the PC and Mac - is this possible?
Also - does this count as 2 of the allowed installations - if so it's a bit blooming mean isn't it?
He needs both running in order to speed image work up things up like stacking etc. - whilst waiting for one to complete he can work on the other pooter. He also has a Mac lap top that will need CS4 installing on it for when he's at college.
Anyone know if he'll have to buy 2 different versions - one for Mac/one for PC ? I really hope not as this will be very very unfair considering it's for the same person.

Adobe still doesn't offer dual platform licensing. But that wouldn't help you anyway with a student version. This is the cheapest version available and only allows one activation on one machine for one user.
All other versions allow two activations as long as they aren't used at the same time and only one person is using them.

CS4 product Serial numbers were platform specific, You can use the serial number only for one platform. If you have a MAC version Serial Number then you cannot install it on windows and also CS4 is not supported anymore , everything is on cloud now, Adobe is not providing any physical media or any Serial numbers for any old applications.
I am sorry but you cannot use the CS4 on windows if you have purchased it for MAC.

Menu selection issues in Flash CS4 for Mac

I'm having a few menu selection issues in Flash. It seems some fields are de-selecting automatically (and quickly). For instance:
1) When I double-click a layer to change it's name, it highlights then immediately de-selects. I can only rename by right-clicking and bringing up the Properties dialog.
2) Fields highlight briefly then immediately de-select in the Properties menu when using the Tab button to advance or cycle thru fields. I have to click on each field individually to enter dimensions/characters.

On occasion, I'm having an issue in Photoshop where the tools are off by 30 pixels or so. Examples:
- Paint brush affects an area approximately 30px to the right and down from the brush head.
- Selection tool selects an area approximately 30px to the right and down from the arrow head.
This only happens on occasion and can be fixed by restarting Photoshop. I have not had any luck fixing the problems experienced within Flash.
I'm experiencing this on two different machines that have CS4 installed. My only guess is a conflict with a Logitech driver OR a Wacom driver, but I have uninstalled the software and unplugged the Logitech mouse and Wacom tablet to no avail.
Long time Flash/Photoshop user.... never had a problem like this.
Anyone else have these issues or know a fix?

Hi there,
This is a known issue, however we have not been able to reproduce it internally. The way to fix it (assuming it's the same problem) is to change your workspace (such as resetting to a default shipping layout, and then modifying from there), as it seems as though something about the workspace is causing the problem. It could be very specific to where its layed out on your monitor(s), some exact pixel size of a panel and/or grouping - and so on. However, we haven't been able to reproduce this internally yet - only reproed and fixed similar problems - so I cannot say for sure, however changing the workspace has fixed it for the other users I've talked to seeing this one.
If you are able to share the following about one or both of your computers and send it to jdh (at) adobe, greatly appreciated:
* workspace XML file from the Configuration directory (before changing the workspace!)
* description monitor layout (ie: primary on left, secondary on right... or "one" )
* monitor resolution(s)
* screenshot(s) of your layout exhibiting the problem

Adobe CS4 for Mac v Windows

I am starting out as a Freelance video editor. My sister is in fashion design. Due to our tight budget we plan on sharing the Adobe CS4.
I use a MacbookPro while my sister an HP laptop.
As a solution I thought of buying the Windows version of CS4 which I will run using Parallels.
Does it make sense? I had heard that there are significant performance impact when using a "virtual" machine than running it "native" on OS X. But then lately people have been telling Parallels is really good?
I am not too keen on having a CS4 Master for Windows instead of a Production Premium for Mac only. But if you people think there is no harm in it then it would save me a lot of money by buying one copy of multi-license Windows only.

As X says, you'll get better info from Adobe discussions. However - good though Parallels is, you will get something of a performance hit, especially when it comes to graphic-intensive applications. There is something of an overhead to virtualisation, although nothing like as bad as it used to be.
You could get round it by using Bootcamp if you don't mind the rebooting.
But go to the Adobe groups and ask someone who knows.

Languages are serial number specific. You cannot change them on the fly. If your serial number supports it, you would have to install it in English. anything beyond that is a hack like stripping the localization files from the app package...
