CS4 Freezing / Program Error

Before I get yelled at, I know there are similar posts, I have gone through them all, and have not gotten ANY progress.
This has happened all of the sudden, I have had no issues previously even with Lion, but for some reason there's been some hardcore issues popping up. I have to force quite Photoshop everytime I use it, pasting something, adding a layer, and ESPECIALLY text.
I do have a font management program - Check
I deleted all preferences for Photoshop from my computer's library - Check
I have PLENTY of memory and open space.
Everytime I try to enter any text, I get the error below. This went from annoyance to purely unuseable. Is there any real fix for this, nothing has helped!

2 macs with Lion with the same fonts, I am getting trouble on this one.
Part of the MacOS font problems are due to the OS code corrupting it's font cache. That happens randomly (as far as anyone can tell), so may be different on different systems.  The font cache persists even after deleting fonts. You have to use a command line program or utility to delete the font cache explicitly.
Also, some of the other problems are due to multiple copies of fonts on the system - which may result from OS upgrades.  Those fonts are required, and hidden inside the system folder.
No, installing CS5 won't touch CS4. They coexist side by side.

  • Photoshop CS4: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

    Hello,
I find myself in an interesting dilemma. I've had CS4 for a bunch of years now and have loved it. Unfortunately, my MacBook Pro's hard drive crashed a month or so back. Luckily, I have been using an external hard drive to back up my computer, so when it crashed, I lost very little in comparisson to some horror stories I've heard.
My Ps was able to retuned to my new hard drive with virtually no problems. However, the error "Could not complete your request because of a program error" shows up in rapid succession 5-10 times after I select the text tool. Interestingly enough, if I weather that storm, I'm able to use all the fonts, actions, etc. with no problems. Originally, it was simply a nuissance that I dealt with, but it's beginning to hamper my work, especially today when I was on deadline.
Doing some research and reading around the web and given the most culpable reason seems to be something wrong with a font, but I don't know which font I'm missing, need to update, whatever.
So here's my question: how do I get this thing to go away? Is there some file or something like that buried in a backup that I didn't bring over to the new hard drive that's causing the problem. At first, I was just happy to have the thing working after the crash, but it's getting pretty annoying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I don't know which fonts came from where, to be honest. It's kind of a mix of whatever I've done over the past 5+ years, if that makes sense.
I'm perfectly fine deleting all the fonts and reinstalling just the ones needed for PsCS4 if there's a file of that.

  • Could not complete your request because of a program error photoshop cs4

My first frustration right now is that I can't search the forums... anyone got an answer to that? on the right hand side (if I'm logged in) I type in a search for anything and it always shows no search results found! Why? is the search function not working?
Anyway, my problem is that when I try to save a multi-layered psd file into psd or jpg I get this error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
    What is causing it?
I checked for updates and PS is up-to-date. I restarted, and it worked great for about 3 saves (different pictures). (I'm basically running through some shots and just doing a quick levels and curves adjustment and running an action putting in my name watermark.)
After that quick edit and trying to save - same error message again.
It started suddenly yesterday - after having used PS for about 1.5 years without a problem. I haven't done any changes to it as far as I'm aware.
Any one seen this before, or have a solution to this?
    Thanks!
    Computer specs:
    Windows 7 Pro - 64-bit
    12 GB Ram
750 GB OS hdd where PS is installed
2 TB Media drive where the files are being pulled up from/saved to.
    Intel i7 x980 3.33 GHz
GeForce GTX 470 with 1280 MB dedicated memory
    Logged in as administrator.

Did you update or change or plug-in or remove anything else on your computer just before it happened?  Photoshop relies on other system libraries to do things and maybe one of those changed.
No, I did not change anything; I was editing pictures - from a quadding trip where they asked me to shoot for them - and suddenly I started getting the message on most pictures.
Hard drives are not nearly full. (.99 TB free on media drive and 588 GB free on OS {C} Drive)
scandisk error check? I probably need that.. (I've had some problems with BSOD and had the BIOS corrupted recently that I had to flash the BIOS again. Could that cause something like this?)
How do you reset preferences? Is it the Ctrl + Shift + Alt key immediately after PS starts? I did that and it didn't fix it.
Saving in odd location? No, I don't think so; I save to the same place I save other stuff and I have a solid directory base and I always follow the same procedures. I save back into the same folder I open the file from and save back to the same filename + "edit". That way I can compare side by side and have a backup copy of the file.
The only USB device plugged into the computer is a logitech wireless combo of keyboard and mouse. (And a wired USB keyboard that sits to the side and that I use only when the batteries in my wireless dies.
I can't think of anything that has changed that would cause PS to act like this.
If I can't get it working soon, I'll re-install. I have the Production Premium CS4 version - can I just reinstall PS or would I have to do the whole suite?
    Thanks!
PS. I don't know if I was clear enough on what I'm doing: I open anywhere from 1 - 20 pictures at once, and then do a quick level or curve adjustment and save to a different file name. The confusing thing is - some pictures I have no problem with, but others - even though I do exactly the same thing - this error message comes up. I'd say about half of my 107 pictures from the quadding trip refused to save.
It almost makes it seem like some pictures are corrupt or something - and yet, I'd be really surprised to have soo many corrupted images suddenly.

  • Photoshop CS4 "Program Error" when using Text tool

Hello. I was having problems with Photoshop displaying a "Program Error" every so often, so I deleted the preference file and all seemed good. But after deleting the preference file for my Photoshop CS4 and re-launching Photoshop, the text tool causes Photoshop to display a Program Error when using the tool. It never did this before. Should I reinstall Photoshop? I am using a Powermac G5 running 10.5.8. I have already tried repairing the disk permissions.
    Thanks

Thats kinda what I thought too, but the problem started happening randomly. It started when we were trying to use photomerge with large photos. The program just started giving the program errors. I still think it may be a font problem, but without going through my 2000+ fonts and disabling them one by one, how can I resolve this issue?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS4 "program error"

I am running MAC OSX 10.5.8 on a g5 and our office recently updated to CS4. For the first week, things went smoothly, now Photoshop is producing an error. "Could not complete your request because of a program error." In order to do anything in PS after I get that error, I have to Force Quit. So far it hasn't effected any other CS4 programs. I have uninstalled photoshop, then reinstalled. It worked for a few days, then started again with the error message. We have 4 machines running CS4 in our office and 2 of the 4 are having the same issue. HELP PLEASE!!! very frustrating.

  • Program error message - Photoshop CS4 for Mac

I started to get the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error" a little while back, but it would go away after restarting photoshop, so I wasn't too worried about it. But now I've encountered this one file that won't let me do anything to it. As soon as I open it it pops up with the error message. No amount of clicking makes it go away, and I have to force quit photoshop. Always the same  thing. I read up a little about how to fix it but I haven't found anything that works (I tried the file info>copyright idea and deleting Photoshop's preferences, even getting rid of extra fonts, and clearing the library>cache.) Any ideas? I'm not sure what to do!
    More info:
    It's a psd file.
There are only 2 layers on the files, one is a vector smart image.
I opened the file and was able to edit it fine on a friend's computer, no error messages whatsoever - so it's not a corrupt file. (But that doesn't solve my computer's dilemma.)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have this same problem. I use Font Agent Pro and I only have about 50-ish foundry fonts activated. I'm wondering if anyone else has found a fix? The second I open Photoshop I get an error message and I have to force quit, let's not even begin thinking about opening a file.
I'm on OSX 10.6.8, running CS4. This is getting frustrating. I'm considering reinstalling the whole suite, there goes my entire evening.

  • Photoshop CS4 program error: deleted prefs, keeps coming back instantly

I am running Photoshop CS4 extended on my Mac OS X 10.5.6 OS. Out of no where, I create a new file, try to fill a layer with a solid color, I get the generic program error message. I click OK to get rid of it, but it is erratic. I have to force quit the program.
I deleted the pref file manually as well as Apple + Option + Shift keys while loading the program and had Photoshop delete it for me.
What other files do i need to delete/reset for this to work properly again?
    My computer:
    Mac Pro Dual Quad (octo)
    12 GB of ram
I pulled up activity monitor and it isn't using much memory.

sounds like a bad directory I would run Diskwarrior or disk utility of the OS install DVD

  • Program error sur photoshop cs4

could not complete your request because of a program error sur photoshop cs4 au moment de l'enregistrement

Sounds like it did not install correctly. Uninstall, then reinstall. If that does not help, use the Adobe CC cleaner. It will remove all traces of your Adobe programs. Then do a normal install. If it still is not working, let us know.

    Hi
I goggled a little bit in the net for some help and I was surprised that many Windows users have had the same problem
So I thought there must be generally something wrong with the windows operating system.
I have investigated a little bit in the MS knowledge base and found this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916089/en-us
According to the MS info this problem may occur when you have Microsoft Office installed and the Windows Update Agent tries to scan for Windows Installer updates.

  • Photoshop CS4 - getting error message that states: Could not complete your request because of a program error. Getting this message when

Could not complete your request because of a program error. Getting error message every time I open the program and try to do anything. Have to Force Quit to close. Using a Mac. Your expertise is appreciated!!

Have you tried removing all 3rd party plug-ins?
Also, resetting preferences to defaults may help...  Press and hold Command - Shift - Option immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop. If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be really quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your current preferences, which will lead to the establishment of a fresh default set. If it does not prompt you, you haven't been quick enough to get the keys down.

  • Program error using Auto-blend in CS4

When I try to do a depth-of-field auto-blend with  five or six layers (with or without auto-align first) Photoshop starts to do the  blend and then stops with this error message:
Could not complete auto-blend layers command because of program error.  OR  Could not auto-blend the layers because of program error.
The NEF layers were created with my D300, and are 4288 by 2488 pixels.  I  also converted them to TIF and tried it that way.  And I tried converting to 8  bit mode - also failed.  If I change the image size to 1000 pixels  it  works. According to Photoshop Preferences I have 1675 MB available RAM,  photoshop is allowed to use 1356 MB.  According to my Control Panel I have 3.00  GB of RAM in Windows XP with Service Pack 3.  Do you have suggestions, other  than adding RAM, for making it work?

I don't stop getting "program error" messages and I cannot open camera raw files despite having subsequently downloaded and installed the new ACR plug in.  Also, program errors often keep me from saving work.  Any known issues that might speed up solving this?

Are there crash reports for these program error messages if so what is the failing module???

  • Photoshop CS2 Could not complete request because of program error

My Photoshop CS2 stopped opening JPEG files from the Bridge. First it freezes and then say Not Responding. After that it brings Could no complete request because of program error. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling with no joy. I have also found out that i cannot open a file even directly from photoshop itself. I have not done any work for the past three days. Please help

I know this is probably a little late for your issue, but for anyone else having trouble with this...
I had this exact same problem, and my photo had also been previously worked on and saved as a jpg in CS4.
I saved it as a psd and then opened it back up in CS4, where it saved as a jpg with no problems.
So, it seems to be a problem with the different versions of photoshop. If you have access to CS4, that could solve your problem. Otherwise, have anyone sending you files from later versions save down to your version, and that might help.
