CS4 frustrating cursor bug

I have a problem with my cursor in Illustrator that is fast becoming a real problem!
After using Illustrator for awhile I go to select another tool ie. using a Type Tool changing it to a Pen Tool but the cursor stays on the one tool and nothing will get it to change. Currently I have the Pen Tool with a diagonal line through it thereby preventing me from selecting anything else or do anything. I tried closing illustrator and re-opening and that did not work. I solved it once by restarting my computer but the second time it did nothing to solve the problem. Please help!
I hope my description is clear and that someone has a solution! Thanks.

I think I may have found a solution. I have two layers in my composition and both layers were locked. Once I unlocked a layer I was able to select different tools. Boy do I feel silly!

  • Photoshop CS4 brush cursor bug on Thinkpad T61p

I've got a Thinkpad T61p with a Nvidia Quadro FX 570M onboard (driver version: 6.14.11.7471). There seems to be a bug with the graphics driver in conjunction with the new Adobe Photoshop CS4. Photoshop now uses GPU-optimization with more brush capabilities. Unfortunately the cursor clips when using brush-sizes larger than 64px. One can see the bug on the nvidia cs4 promotion "brush resizing" at http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_photoshop.html. Nvidia corrects this bug in newer driver versions, but lenovo only offers a WinXP-display-driver from 2008-04-28.
Does anyone know any workround? I've tested somo older forceware drivers (178.24) with partial success. The display bug in Photoshop is fixed, but e.g. After Effects CS4 crashes while detecting the GPU.

Today I've installed the latest Forceware Drivers 180.60 from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ to test the bug behaviour.
The brush cursor now seems to be able to handle big brush sizes but the performance is reduced noticable. When painting inside a new document the rendering of the brush path is done after painting over the area, even when using small brush sizes.
So let's wait until Nvidia/Lenovo roll out a new driver.

  • Photoshop CS4 Snow Leopard Bugs: Cursor Position & Grains

Currently running OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.1), and just installed the latest Adobe updates this morning (9.22.09).
There are two bugs in Ps CS4 I've encountered, one minor but aesthetically unpleasant, and the other major and disrupting:
The first bug occurs at random when Ps is extended to "Full Screen Mode with Menu Ba." As seen in the image at the following link, graininess occurs in Ps's canvas background, and wont disappear until the screen mode is toggled (pressing the "F" key three times): http://img.skitch.com/20090922-tyxk4dfrak4dtf2f4rg7fgyn59.jpg Again, not a major bug, but simply annoying to look at.
The second, more annoying bug, has to do with the cursor and selection tools. I could not determine when exactly this happens and how it goes away, but a few times throughout the day the selection cursor is a few pixels off. When either the lasso, magic wand, marquee or other similar tools are selected, the actual area from which Ps begins to select is about 10-15 pixels below the cursor position, see image in link for clarification: http://img.skitch.com/20090922-1jyqdtj34xw99ysq4gjxhxx57c.jpg
I hope this notice gets the bugs fixed. If you're experiencing similar Snow Leopard side-effects and can detect how and when they occur, please let me know. The canvas background pixelation, I can live with...but the cursor selection bug makes my day twice as difficult and slows my workflow down to a snail's pace.

Not sure about the graininess as I have never seen it but it seems to be the same fix as for the curser being off by 10 pixels. cycle though the screen modes with the F key. this has nothing to do with Snow Leopard as it is present in both Tiger and Leopard as well.
This bug is only present when you create a new doc in full screen mode. If you are a new convert to Mac from Windows you might want to use the application frame, this will give you the gray background without those two annoyances. You can find the application frame at the bottom of the Window menu. this is a new feature on the Mac version with CS4.

  • Fix Dreamweaver CS4 Color Eyedropper Bug

Dreamweaver locks up when using the eyedropper from the CSS
panel to select/match a color from any object in Design view.
Easiest to explain by describing a split view. Dreamweaver locks
every time -- when placing cursor in a background color code in a
style sheet, then going to the CSS panel and selecting the
background color swatch for that style, then with the eyedropper,
touching a color in the Design view part of the split screen.
Dreamweaver CS3 never locked up when performing these same
steps. Dreamweaver CS4, locks up whether selecting a color in a
bitmap or a CSS background color that is displayed in the Design
split view. Means I have to go to Fireworks to color match, and if
the color I want is in a range of a gradient, I have to make the
gradient a bitmap before selecting the spot with the eyedropper. I
even had some difficulty in Fireworks, as the selection wouldn't
show up in the color panel when I touched the bitmap with the
eyedropper. I could see the color code in the popup color selector
and clicked there for the color to show up in Fireworks' color
    panel.
Kind of a hassle...would be nice to get an update fix for
    this.

  • [CS4 Win] Weird 'Bug' giving overset text in duplicate object - stumped!

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a perculiar 'bug' in InDesign CS4 (Windows).
I have a triangular text frame rotated by 45° with a 0.2mm inset.
This frame contains two words who's point size is just big enough to fit the text in the frame without it oversetting.
The leading is set to 100% of the point size.
When I duplicate the text frame either with the Duplicate command, cut 'n' paste or alt dragging, the new text frame is overset!
I cannot find any difference between the two objects what so ever.
If, in the original text frame, I change the text frame options inset to 0 and then back to the original 0.2 mm, I get overset!
Scaling the original up by any amount also causes overset, as does increasing the height of the frame and then returning it to its original height.
I have tried exporting as a snippet but the new placed text frame oversets.
Does anyone have any idea might be causing this behaviour.
It doesn't do it in CS3 or in CS5.
I have included a link to an example file, you will need to have the same font (HelveticaNeueLTPro-BlkCn) to see the problem.
I can't upload this for obvious copyright reasons - sorry.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7307068/flashes.indd
    Thanks for ANY input.
    Simon Kemp.

    Hi Simon.
My initial reaction was it might have to do with the third party plugins, but I exported to .inx to strip them out, and then NONE of the frames had both words. I also thought it might be that the the frame isn't a right triangle and the slight angles on the vertical and horizontal might be a problem, but I made a new frame with the same hypotenuse but the correct legs, and that didn't make a difference, either. (I made it by drawing a rectangular frame exactly half as high as it was wide, adding a point at the center of the top path segment with the pen, then deleted the two upper corner points).
I have to say my conclusion is that the problem here is there really isn't enough room in the frame for both words with that inset. Adding 3% to the size of the frame (by clicking the chainlink to link changes to height and width, then typing +3% after the height [adding in the scale fields scales the type, too, so don't do it there] and pressing Enter) brings both words into view.
Curiously, When I opened the file in CS5, the words fit without messing around. Cutting and pasting the frames with overset made both words appear. This could be due to the new way ID deals with text in non-rectangular shapes. When I opened the .inx file without the plugin information in CS5 all the text was visible in all frames. I think the only reason the text ever fit in the original CS4 file might have to do with one of the plugins, but that's pure speculation. I don't think there's any sort of bug here.

  • CS5.5 TLF cursor bug in RTL edit mode

    Hello,
It seems there is a bug in TLF text in CS5.5 in "editable" mode.
    to reproduce:
1.put a TLF on stage and set it to "editable".
    2. Set in 'Paragrph' section to 'Right To Left'.
    It remainsleft to right.
    3. set in 'Container and flow' to 'Right To Left' it does change direction, but if you try to put a cursor you can't.
The only way to put a cursor is on the right of the TLF.
    Ideas anyone ?

I have problem with this issue too. and it has started with flash cs5.5. in flash cs5 TLFs work fine.
It is not a solution, but by chance I have found when the MultiLine property of TLF is changed to single line textfield works fine. again I confirm the bug and wish the team make a update for that.

  • GVim 7.2.368-3 cursor bug

Hi all. After I upgraded to the latest version of Vim a couple of days ago, I started experiencing what looks like gVim cursor redraw bug. When I move the cursor in gVim, it obstructs the letter it is on:
I do not experience this in plain Vim. There are things that can make the cursor exhibit normal behavior, such as 1) me pressing Esc key 2) Awesome WM clock updating 3) scrot taking a screenshot (I had to Gimp the screenshot above because the cursor goes back to normal the moment a screenshot is taken).
Vim and Xorg packages were upgraded during my last update, but Awesome WM was not.
Is anybody else experiencing this? How should I go about finding the culprit?

I am getting the same bug here. However, it only seems to occur when I use bitmap fonts like Dina or Terminus. Using a TrueType font like Courier New or Nimbus Mono works perfectly. Confused
This seems to be a bug specific to the intel driver for X11. When I reboot the machine and switch to my discrete ATI graphics card (my laptop has dual integrated/discrete graphics cards) the problem disappears completely. Also forwarding Vim through SSH from this laptop to other computers works as well. Could you confirm this? What X11 video driver are you using?
Thank you for pointing this out. I have changed the font and now the cursor works again. Hope this bug will be fixed soon. I am missing my dina fonts.

  • Illustrator CS4 Action Palette bug

Does anyone know if the action palette bug has been addressed? I saw a thread from Nov 2008 that confirmed I am not an isolated incident. I can't get all the steps in my action to save when I reopen Illustrator. Particularly "show all layers". I am working in 10.4.11, and I don't see any Illustrator updates available to me at this time. Thanks!

That's funny it doesn't happen here and don' get this wrong but it seems odd that you have been working with CS 4 all this time and never brought this issue up before.
Of course you could be on windows and it could be a platform specific issue though it seems odd that all this time has passed and it is the first we are hearing about it.
This is what my CS4 looks like after I relaunch AI.

  • Cursor bug in PS, AI and FL

I'm noticing a bug across Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. I'm on a Mac Pro quad-core 2.8 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM. I'll be in one of these three apps for a while, and suddenly the cursor turns into an approx. 4 mm open circle which functions as a temporary eraser for whatever is on the screen. All other program functions stop. Restarting the app does not solve the issue. Restarting the machine does solve the issue. I've restarted three times today. I'm wondering if there is a fix out there for this issue. Thanks in advance for the help.
    --jody radzik.

Hi! Same bug here! All of the sudden while I'm working with AI CS6 the cursor -or whatever is the tool in use- it just switches to the eraser tool. Sometimes I'm able to switch again to some other tool by performing some random mouse gestures and clicking everywhere, but I'm pretty often pushed to restart the application in order to take the reins again.
What to do? Anyone? Something different to reinstalling the whole suite? Thanks in advance.-

  • After Effects CS4 & Wacom Showstopper bug.

Hi! For more than one year I've being feeling that my machine was the slowest machine on Earth, so I spent a good deal of money on a new HP Z800 with a Quadro FX 5800 and 24GB of RAM with windows 7 64 and a set of SSD raid that gives me over 700MB per second, after install After Effects CS4 and try it, was awesome, such a good response and super fast, but.... after finish installing all the rest, AE was slow like on my previous 4 years old machine.....   so something was wrong. To make the story short, was the Wacom driver, if I turn it off, all goes back to normal, turn it on and all goes slow, so far I was able to reproduce it on 7 machines, Win XP, Win XP 64, Vista 64, and Win 7 64, the all show the same problem, and all the machines are different. And the problem can be reproduced very easily. I've made a video showing how to reproduce it. This problem render the Wacom with AE as a non viable option for anyone. I've noticed this since about 12 months ago, but never thought is was a hardware / driver problem. Just thought AE was excruciatingly slow.
    Here is the video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KwzASwrnC0
Hope Adobe and Wacon recognize this problem and fix it as fast as possible,

    Hello,
I'm using the trial of CS6 Production Premium, and After Effects CS6 has a terrible problem with the Wacom. After a video preview with audio or even just an audio preview, the Wacom will become very slow, almost like the computer is under insane processor load, but my CPU monitors don't seem to be doing much. I have a 24-core Dual-Xeon PC with 48GB memory and I am trying to make use of the multi-processor capability (it would be criminal if I couldn't use it).
The Wacom becomes slow with AFX and occasionally unresponsive. It makes it impossbile to work with AFX. I refuse to use a mouse, so that's out of the question. Also, this software should work with a Wacom like everything else does. I don't have this issue in any other program.
I've set AFX to use either 20 or 16 processors with .75GB memory per core. Seems this should work ok but the Wacom is being pummeled into submission, and that's a really bad problem if I can't even move my cursor. Makes me want to close down AFX ASAP, so I hope to find a fix.
I am using the latest Wacom driver and the trial for this software is only days old, so this problems should have been fixed by now according to this thread. I'm not too motivated to spend $1800 for this suite if I can't even use AFX with a Wacom, which is the main reason I'm after the Production Suite.
If I can't get this working I will probably just buy Vegas, even though Vegas is a big old crash monkey. No Wacom problems at all though.
    Any ideas?
Also, anyone notice funny cursor behavior when typing in this forum? It seems to jump around on its own and this doesn't happen to me anywhere else. Could be a residual effect of the Wacom weirdness. This fields don't seem to like 'Shift+Enter' either.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Photoshop CS4 serious dragging bug

I'm running Photoshop CS4 in two different MacBook Pro's unibody, both with 10.6.4 installed, both PSD versions are separate copies with different licenses and both are updated to the latest release, 11.0.2.
In both machines I've experienced a serious dragging issue that so far seems to be related to something in Safari, particularly when I drag an image straight from the browser to the photoshop window. The bug consists of immediately any function that includes dragging something across the screen (painting, scaling, panning, cropping, rotating, you name it) becomes impossible to do, and the screen "stutters" all over the place for several seconds until the issue goes away itself. The problem has become super frequent in one of my computers, the newest one which I mostly use with an intuos 4, the other one I use with an intuos 3, as mentioned before both laptops are unibody, but one i got in december 2008 and the other one in february 2010.
The issue has gotten to the point where it is almost impossible to work with that computer, as it is happening sometimes up to 5 or 6 times each minute.
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

    From the PS CS4 manual:
    Change the Color Picker
Instead of using the Adobe Color Picker, you can choose colors from your computer operating system’s standard Color Picker or from a third party Color Picker.
1 Choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > General (Mac OS).
2 Choose a Color Picker from the Color Picker menu, and click OK.
For more information, see your operating system documentation.
Note: To return to the Adobe Color Picker, choose it from the Color Picker menu in the General Preferences.

  • CS4 Crash 8Kb bug related

Dreamweaver crashes repeatedly. Believe the problem is related to the 8 kb bug. Have found several files with size  8 192 kb. Actual file size is less and differs but File size on disk always 8 192 kb.
Most, but not all, new saved html-files get this file size on disk even if edited outside of Dreamweaver in a text editor.
As adding new lines only effects the actual file size this is not a solution to the problem.
Have deleted the cache file - didn't help.
Also renamed the personal configuration folder but that didn't help either
    Solution to this problem appreciated!!

I was the person who discovered the 8KB bug in Dreamweaver CS3. According to the Dreamweaver engineer who helped identify the cause of the problem, the bug was fixed in Dreamweaver CS4, so it's unlikely that it's the same problem, particularly since adding extra lines to change the size of the file was the workaround for the original bug.
You need to submit a detailed report of your problem to Adobe through the bug report form, which can be found at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

  • Is This a CS4 Flash Remoting Bug?

I think I have discovered a bug, but am looking for others to comment and maybe somebody knows of somebody else that has experience with this issue.
I have a very large flash app I am working on for a multi-user RPG game, it relies heavily on flash remoting via AMFPHP so that flash clients logged into the game may communicate with each other and the main game server which handles database storage, the game heartbeat functions, etc.
I have been developing the app on Flash CS4 for Windows and never have had any trouble, it works fine in the IDE environment when testing the movie and the published version works fine as well.
Now I have a Mac version of CS4 and I am getting some crazy problems running the app in Test Movie mode in the IDE.
After I start the app in Test Movie mode and run it for a few seconds all flash remoting stops working, the game continues to run and no error messages are generated but all of the NetConnection calls do no do anything, they do not connect, they generate no errors. Ok, thats strange enough but now, if I kill the Test Movie and rerun it via Test Movie no NetConnection calls are made and the initial .connect call does not go through, I have watched the server logs on the other end and no attempts to reach the gateway.php are made. This continues until I unload all of the .fla and .as files associated with the project and then reload them, and then it starts again, works the first time for 5 seconds or so and then all NetConnections stop completely.
So to summarize what I think is a bug specifically for the Mac platform of Flash CS4 Professional:
    1. Projects works fine in Flash CS4 for Windows
    2. In Flash CS4 for Mac, the project runs for about 5 seconds in Test Movie Mode and then all NetConnection activity stops
    3. No errors are generated for the NetConnection
    4. Continues to fail even restarting the project until I close the files and re-open them in the IDE
Sounds like a bug, does anybody know of others with this problem, or does anyone have anything I can try?
    Thanks,
    Andy

The application doesn't hang but the TextBlock ends up on top the Button when you set its Text property. That's why you cannot click on the Button.
If you set the Text property of the TextBlock in the XAML markup you won't be able to click the Button when you run the app because of the same reason:
    <TextBlock x:Name="OutputMsg" Text="sample text"
    Margin="0,200,0,0"
    HorizontalAlignment="Center"
    FontSize="18" />
The solution is, like you have already discovered, to put the TextBlock in the StackPanel so it ends up
below the Button and not on top of it in the same Grid.
Please remember to mark helpful posts as answer to close your threads and then start a new thread if you have a new question.

  • Bridge CS4 No Scroll Bug

When you select Output workspace, you can't mouse scroll through the right hand pane. It doesn't matter what output option you have chosen, PDF or Web Gallery. However, in the Content tab mouse scrolling works fine as do all of the other workspaces.
I think this is a bug as it makes no sense as to why it doesn't work.

I think you might have misunderstood me. Let me try and explain a bit better.
    - Open Bridge CS4
    - Click on the Output tab in the top right hand or Command F4.
    - Select PDF or Web Gallery
    - Open all of the panel options, (Site Info, Color Palette etc for Web Gallery)
    - The scroll bar is now visible, position your mouse over any of the open panels, now try and scroll up or down, nothing.
If you position the mouse pointer over the scroll bar, you can scroll. With the pointer over one of the open panels you can't scroll.
Now some would say that is normal since that particular panel is entirely visible but, if you position one of the open panels near the bottom so it is not entirely visible and hover the pointer over that panel, scrolling does not work. This is a bug IMHO.

  • Illustrator Cursor Bug

    Hi, anyone from adobe available?
When using Illustrator my cursor often gets stuck on the hand tool which makes it impossible to use the program for obvious reasons. Yes I restart the program (sometimes I even have to restart my computer) and the problem is fixed. But ofcourse it reoccurs at random times. Please fix it. Illustrator is a faulty product while ever it remains.
    Thanks a bunch : )

    d,
There may be a number of causes.
The following is a general list of things to try. Obviously, you have been through 1) and 2) already. Item 7) in 5) may be the most likely.
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);  Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6, and reinstall.
