CS4 HDV Capture and playback issues

Hey,
I am having trouble with HDV capture and playback on Prem Pro CS4. I tried all the steps mentioned on the article posted by Adobe, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405478.html
None of these steps have helped anything. I used the cleanup utility, re-installed everything and started from fresh and nothing happens. Capture is always out of sync, it ignores in and out points when batch capturing and playback is all jerky regardless of quality settings. The weird thing is, this only started happening out of the blue. I was using it on a project and it was fine. I hadn't used Prem Pro in a little while and then all these problems began. No change in hardware.
I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 and capturing HDV footage via firewire on a Sony Z7.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

With Win7, if you have not already done so...

  • Is it possible to do the audio capture and playback simultaneously?

    In short :
Is it possible to do the audio capture and playback simultaneously? . If it is not supported directly by Sun, pl suggest another way to achieve the same.
    In detail:
I am doing a voice chat application by using the streaming through UDP . I am able to play the byte stream. But , is it possible to capture sound simultaneously (while playing the audio) to send to the other end?

If you're Airplaying from you computer, you might be able to do this. Here's what I would try:
Go to the Airplay icon in iTunes. You should see both your Apple TV and your speakers listed as options. Select "Multiple speakers." You'll see both devices together. Turn the volume all the way down on the Apple TV. You should be getting the video on the TV, but only hear audio through the speakers.
Using the "Multiple Speakers" option will sync the output of your devices so that the sound matches the picture.
I haven't tried this myself, but I'm thinking this would work. However, this approach will only work when using Airplay from your computer – not from am iPad or iPhone – as they don’t have the "Multiple Speakers" option (as far as I know). It also won't work with content streamed directly to your ATV, obviously, because there's no way to stream from ATV to other devices.
Let me know if this works.

  • Why don't iMovie support native HDV capture and editing?

i would like to see iMovie HD 6 to support native HDV capture and edit. is it possible?

no, FCE-HD (what an abreviation!) uses the same trick as iM-HD, converting HiDef into AIC....
native HD is really more for the pros... yet! I think, the basic problem to be solved first is -r media, meaning, any HD/blue-ray-DVD-r disks, which make it possible for the average user to store his/her products.... but as far as I follow the discussion, right now the industry is caring more for commercial disks, and that HDMI "problem" (broadcasting can include a copyprotection, so no use of any HD/DVD HiDef recorders...!)... finally, we can record only our selfmade movies... maybe that's a little less joy...
actually, converting finished HDmovies into h264 with a high bitrate and storing that onto hd is the only realistic option........

  • CS3 - Video freezes on Capture and Playback - Please Help!

    Hello all,
    Here's the problem:
When Capturing footage via firewire from Mini DV, shot in standard DV, within a standard NTSC-DV Widescreen 48k Project, the picture freezes after 1 second.  The audio can still be heard and the footage actually does get captured.  However, after the footage has been conformed, and we load the clip into the Source Window and hit play, the video again freezes after 1 second of play.  Again, the audio keeps playing and you can move the marker anywhere on the clip and see that all the footage is indeed there, but as soon as you go to play it from any point - same thing, the picture freezes after 1 second of play, making editing impossible.  The clip is being captured as an .avi and all capture settings appear to be correct.
    Here's the kicker:
    - HDV video captures and plays back fine.
    - The DV video captured correctly at first, this has been a recent problem going on now for several weeks, after no changes to the system.
    - The biggest kicker - after trying successfully to capture, playback and edit HDV video, we closed Premiere, reopened, tried to play the previously captured DV footage and it played just fine suddenly!!!  Then we closed the program, re-opened and tried again - back to the freezing problem and it never played back fine again...
Here's the specs (I can give more specifics later if needed, it's my partner's computer):
Sony PD-150 DV-Cam (but recording on Mini DV in standard DV mode, not DV-Cam)
    Windows 7
    Intel Core i7 3.20 ghz
Asus X58 Motherboard with onboard Audio and Firewire
    6 GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 9 Series with PhysX
Please help if you have any idea how to solve a crazy problem like this.  Thank you!!!
    Greg

Now that everything is working, make a full drive image to an external USB hard drive

  • **Captured Video Playback Issue - Freezing

I've capture 10 short video clips, and discovered when trying to play them back on the iPhone that some simply will not play. When you open the photo app, select the clip, and press the play button, the iPhone just locks up. Totally locks up. The only way I've been able to unlock is holding down both the Sleep/Startup button and the Home button for 10 seconds and the device resets.
Once reset, if I go to a clip that works, it plays normally again, but select one of the bad clips, and it locks again (also locks if I try to delete one of the bad clips). To remove a bad clip I open the Photo app, highlight the clip or clips in question), press the options button, and then click Delete.
However, once I deleted the clips that caused the crashing, some of the clips that played normally have stopped working and now freeze the entire device.
Once while trying to delete some clips, the whole Photo app on the phone appeared to be completely empty. I restarted and it was the same - empty. Restarted again and everything was back.
Help. I've got an appointment at the Genius Bar Saturday, and am hoping we can get to the bottom of this or get the phone replaced.

    Jason,
I just went through the whole restore process, and the issue persists - crashing/freezing on playback of videos captured through the iPhone, as well as fuzzy photos (both viewed through the Photo app). On the fuzzy photo side, what's odd is the first photo you look at seems to look good; all after that look fuzzy. Strange.
On the playback side, I'm wondering if there isn't an actual hardware issue that's causing that problem since the software has been completely replaced.
Not happy with the current situation at all, as the camera is a pretty central function of the phone (for my uses) and as it stands I'm better able to use even the camera from my original iPhone.
Taking this in Saturday, which is the first appointment I could get when I tried to go in on Wednesday. My concern is that tomorrow is the last day I think I could technically return this phone for a refund with no restocking fee. If I go in Saturday and get a replacement phone that's refurbished, as new as my phone is, I'm going to be feeling pretty annoyed.
Thoughts or any additional things to try?

  • DNIS capture and playback

I'm new to UCCX but hoping someone has some advice on this.
I have a UCCX 8.5 installation and a Communications Manager 8.5 installation at a large university. We have 30,000 numbers in our dial plan but not all the numbers are assigned to devices. In other words some of the numbers are simply not in service.
I would like to play a message to callers when they attempt to call on of these not in service numbers that includes the number they have dialed.
    For example:
Caller calls a number that is not in service
Call is redirected to UCCX script
Script plays prompt, something like "The number you have dialed..."
Script captures orginal dialed number (DNIS).
Script plays back DNIS to caller.
Script plays prompt, something like "...is not a working number. Please consult your directory and dial again."
I think the Get Call Contact Info block will capture and store the DNIS I just can't figure how to play the number back. There is a good chance that I'm way off the mark too.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Add a play prompt under the get contact info and in the play prompt "prompt tab" put S[] inside the brackets type the name of your string variable that collects the dialed number from the get contact step.
You can combine the beginning and end prompts with the dnis collected info and it should look like this in the play prompt "prompt tab"
    P[beginning prompt] + S[dialedNumber] + P[endprompt]
Hope this helps and didn't confuse you.
    Regards,
    Yosh

  • Rendering and playback issues

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this kind of topic has been discussed before, but I could not find any help with search. I don't really know how to describe my problem. I has After Effects CS4 first and when I first got it, it was giving me the same problem. I came here and got some help and everything worked fine after that, but now I upgraded to CS5 and I'm having problems again and I can't for the life of me remember what I did to fix the problem.
Here is what is going on. I'll uploaded a video that is an mpeg or AVCHD and while trying to preview it in anyway, it will only render some of it and then it will start depleting what has been rendered to render the rest of the clip. It is hard for me to explain. It just won't fully preview a clip as a whole.
Also, when I make a movie or finish a clip, they are coming out incredibly choppy. CS4 worked great on my computer, but I'm guessing I don't have the seeings perfect for CS5. I would go back to CS4, but I use AVCHD now and I'm scared CS4 will start having issues like CS5 is having.
    I have a Studio XPS 435MT
    Intel Core i7 2.67 ghz
    4gb of RAM
    ATI Radeon 4800
Do I just have on the wrong settings or something? Because like I said, CS4 was working without a problem for years. It was doing the same thing CS5 is doing now, but something I did fixed it and now I can't remember what it was.

Please state exactly what buttons you are pressing, what icons you are clicking, and what commands you're choosing. It's hard to help you to figure out what's going on when your description of what you're doing and seeing isn't clear.
My guess about your preview issue is that you're expecting either standard preview (spacebar play) or RAM preview to work differently than they do. For explanations of what these preview methods are and how to use them, start on this page and then read the pages that it links to: "FAQ: Why does RAM preview only play part of my composition?"
Regarding the stuttering of movies that you've rendered and exported: My guess is that you've just rendered and exported at the default settings, which create losslessly compressed movies, which are huge and are not intended for playback. (They're intended as intermediate files for additional post-production work.) Such huge files won't play back smoothly on a less powerful computer because the hard disk can't even serve the frames from the disk fast enough. The solution is to render and export using a codec that actually compresses the files significantly. You have to keep in mind the crucial difference between formats intended for playback and formats intended for intermediate files. See this thread for a somewhat more full explanation: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2958839#2958839

  • Clitching during capture and playback

hi there, I have been having some major problems with FCP and my computer...I don't know if they are related.
My HD died on me, so I put in a brand new one...since then, my fcp has been acting goofy.
When I try to capture video and audio (in firewire NTSC Basic mode), the video stops, but the audio keeps going. When I place the clip in the timeline, the audio doesn't follow the video. I did notice though that even with just my capture window open and video is playing from my deck, it will stutter withough even hitting the capture now button.
However, I can capture video on the "non-controlable device" mode, but it has some glithces (pixleated colors that appear in the video), but the audio doesn't get off.
Is this a back firewire port on my computer? I did try a different f.w. cable and it still did it...anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!
    -R

Once past the immediate AH HA!, I recognize THAT problem (which doesn't seem to be happening), more basic information becomes necessary to track down the problem.
Video format? DV, HDV, Uncompressed HD of some flavor?
    How captured? iMovie? FCP?
External drive type and free space? Firewire, USB, e-sata?
    Any filters on the footage?
    Sequence settings?
How are you viewing the footage? computer screen only, external ntsc/pal monitor?
    And so on.
    Cheers,
    x

  • Simultaneous capture and playback - is this possible?

    Hello all,
I'm looking for a way to simultaneously capture NTSC footage into Final Cut and have that captured file available for playback within another program while it is still recording. Kind of like time-shifting with a Tivo. Does anyone know how to do this? Are there certain software/hardware combinations that would allow something like this?
    Thanks for your time,
    Mark

Yeah, but it is a complex setup and not cheap.

  • Capturing and Playback

Im trying something and i hope you can help me. I have two Mac computers, one dedicated to capturing a event and the other I have is dedicated to playback. They share the hard drive via a network. What I want to know is- is there a way for the dedicated playback machine to access a video file that is still being captured by the capturing machine and play back parts of it in a sequence??

    Hi -
    Check out Picture Ready.
    http://www.virtualvtr.com/pictureready/index.html
I believe it will allow FCP to do what you want.
No personal experience, but I have heard it highly spoken of and in use in mission critical applications like live broadcast TV.

  • Casio Exilim EX-S600 digital camera import and playback issues

When importing the mpeg4 video (.AVI files) from my Casio Exilim EX-S600 digital camera with plug in version 1.1 and iMovie HD 6.0.1 I consistently get an unknown error. I use the HQ setting on the camera. Quicktime will play the movies though sometimes they stutter, if you pause, and then resume it seems to playback better. Strange to say the least. Any tips on how I can edit these clips? And get better playback performance in Quicktime? Thanks in advance!

  • Capture and playback

Trying to capture minidv to fcp using jvc gr 850. Everything looks fine in log and capture window while capturing. , but when playing back captured clip , it plays very fast. What gives? Tried a lot already.

If the footage was shot 24pa (advanced), you can remove the pulldown during capture, but if it was shot standard 24p, you can't do that, and must capture at 29.97. That could be causing your problem... has to be 24pa to capture at 24fps. otherwise, just capture at 29.97 because FCP can't remove the pulldown until after it's captured.
There's little reason to remove the pulldown BTW...it will look the same, and if you are intending to print to film, then you do want to remove the pulldown, or if your program is going to be long, removiing the pulldown will fit more video on a DVD... but otherwise, it will end up looking the same in any event.

  • Using Variable Bit Rate Encoding (VBR) and playback issues

I have been using VBR when making mp3 for download to "Soundclick.com" in the past, resently, I started to hear complaints from listeners, that my mp3 were garbled, although it is not consistent so, it is true, and I came to believe it was because of VBR. I re-encoded the files in question, and so far the problem has gone away.
The question is this due to OSX 10.5.6, or might it be something with soundclick, I don't know; but it did seem to become evident after loading the OSX 10.5.6 update. I can't find a way to correspond with Apple Development, so I thought to post here. I am also going to pursue this with "Soundclick.com"; VBR seems to be an efficient way to encode, and I would like to keep using it.
If anyone know about this it would be cool to hear for you!
    God Bless,
    ron c
    http://soundclick.com/rone2him

Is the problem inherently answered in your question?
Why use VBR when you bounce? It's a compromise solution, and has it's own problems. What are soundclicks tech specs? Work to those, getting the file as big as you can, it takes moments to bounce multiple files of varying bit depth etc to see how far you can stretch things before you're over-budget on the file size.

  • Adobe after fx cc 2014 sound and playback issue

When I rendered my first scene in adobe after fx cc 2014 I noticed I had no sound, and the video was playing frame by frame not full speed.
    What did I do wrong?
    Big D.

You probably used the default Lossless preset in the Output Module. You should probably type rendering in the search help field at the top right corner of AE and study up on the options.
