Cs4 inDesign crashes and errors on export to swf

I have exported successfully to swf on this file previously. Super it worked so now I added more links here and there. Now when I export I receive "An error occurred while flattening" on one of 3 pages (it seems to pick one at random). I've edited those images and attempt to reexport. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes the above error on page 35-36 or 41-42 of a 76 page doc. I must be doing something wrong. I at first thought I corrupted the file and recreated it 3 different ways...export to xml and rebuild, export to inDesign markup ...rebuild, tried manual rebuild with the print file... same errors/crashing. Any ideas what I might try?

I exported same file now as pdf (this file went to print so I know it was not corrupt)
and NOW (random_error_message_whileExporting_567) Error is "Error encountered while reading JPEG image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again."
any way to determine what image causes the error? its making my head dizzy!

My InDesign crashes and then wont reopen. I have already tried deleting preferances, relaunching, but the only thing that's solved it so far is rebooting which is beyond frustrating.

  • When I save a CS6 InDesign file as an .idml file InDesign crashes and sends a report to Adobe.

When I save a CS6 InDesign file as an .idml file InDesign crashes and sends a report to Adobe.
When I restart InDesign the .idml file is in the directory as well as a locked InDesign file.
I cannot open the .idml file, instead I get the message:
Cannot open "" file. Adobe InDesign maynot support the file format,
a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing,
or the file may be open in another location.
I can however open an InDesign .idml file that was saved from InDesign CC software.
InDesign CC software is also unable to open the .idml file that I created in CS6.

It seems to be a corrupted IDML file. Does it happen with every file or only with that one.
What is the content of that file? Did you embed images or graphics or did you ink them? Size?
Maybe that this would help you: Re: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

  • Iphoto crashing and ERROR message when trying to EXPORT to slide show

I am producing a simple Slide Show to be shown tomorrow at 8am.
I created it in IPHOTO but an older version. I did some tests last night and today. Worked fine.
Now that it is done I tried to EXPORT it to Quicktime, as a H.264 Quicktime movie.
    Dimension 1280x 720
Stills only and no music. Classic with simple dissolves from one photo to next.
Export and proceed and I leave it alone. After about 1/2 hour or so it crashes and give ERROR message and say
    "unable to process" or complete.
I have tried several times and changed specs. Still crashes.
What happened to Apple's Chat Support? Are then not online after a certain time?
On an IMAC with 16 Gbs of RAM, and have space left on drive. this is not complex.
anyone? It is due tonight so I can Hightail send it to AV people and it needs to be downloaded
tonight or EARLY tomorrow for showing at 8am.
thanks to anyone who can help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • CS 3 InDesign Crashes when trying to Export To PDF

    Our File Problem
Dell Microsoft XP service pack 2
    Mac Intel Duo, Tiger
CS3 Fully Updated as of 3/17/08
CS2 Fully Updated as of 3/20/08
The problem first arose back when we upgraded to CS3, we found that files inside our document were crashing InDesign CS3 when we went to print or export the document as a pdf, the file originally made an interchange file which we could work with in CS2 so we went back and avoided CS3 until the catalog was finished.
The problem arose again after we started using CS3 again, but not right away. Many documents have been built and exported and printed with no problem. I was able to find and fix the problem through a piece by piece removal process of elimination. I isolated the problem link, opened it in photoshop, made a new psd file and saved the new file with a different name. Problem solved.
The problem became more complicated recently when I created a document, filled it with links, exported the file, changed nothing but copy in the document went to export and the document crashed InDesign. I then started the process of elimination and found that the problem link was different every time, and when placed into another fresh document would export just fine. All of the links were re-created in photoshop and used to create another document. The document was re created on other machines, everything went well until drop shadows were added into the document, then it crashed InDesign and could not be exported to PDF. We then took the same document, with the drop shadows, exported it in Interchange to CS2 and the document exported just fine to PDF.
As a test on the drop shadow issue, we took a number of different files and tested these in CS2 and CS3 with and without drop shadows. Every file we tried in CS2 worked fine with and without a drop shadow. However ,we experienced a number of crashed of InDesign with the drop shadows on these files in CS3. It seems to be just a portion of images, of a certain type of product we carry, but other than that there is no consistency to what is causing the crash. We also tested other effects and had the same results with InDesign CS3 crashing.
The other issue we see with this is that before the 1st of the year, we were able to export the same images in InDesign with the drop shadows and other effects. It seems that since the first of the year, the same images are not longer able to export from CS3 to a PDF. A couple of the possible thoughts we had were that there was an issue with recent updates in CS3, to test this we are going to uninstall CS3 and reinstall without running updates. We also are going to try to recreate the files that crashed InDesign and see if they can crash again on export.
Has anybody else experienced any similar issues? Does anybody know of a way to identify the problem in CS3 or with our files other than through trial and error? This is a major issue and problem for us since we are primarily a catalog based business and cannot have out catalog crash unexpectedly when we spend months working on it.
This problem is also not operating system specific, it is happening on both machines listed above

    Dean,
We found that the issue is a bug in the program, and this was the response i Got from an Adobe guy:
    Initial Response:
Thank you very much. Weve been able to reproduce the crash. It appears the underlying bug is triggered by having tall narrow PSD images and transparency effects (i.e. drop shadow). Well be working to further understand the root cause, and then working on a fix for a future release/update.
In the interim the best workaround I can come up with is to rotate the canvas in Photoshop 90 degrees so the image is short and wide, and then rotate it -90 degrees in InDesign after placing so you get the vertical orientation you want. The bug is triggered when processing the data as saved by Photoshop, so avoiding the tall and narrow psd should avoid the bug.
Im sorry to not have an easier workaround or immediate fix. Please let me know if you encounter any new crashes. Ill let you know if our further investigation changes our understanding of the root cause of the bug.
    Second response:
Well, I have a bit more info. Switching from a tall narrow image size to a short and wide one should avoid the crash for any specific image that crashed when tall and narrow, but unfortunately the root cause of the bug is in code that could potentially be triggered by any image. It appears to be exceptionally rare for other image proportions, but it is still theoretically possible. It just turns out its much more likely for a tall narrow CMYK+Alpha image.
So, as it stands I dont have a 100% guaranteed way to avoid this crash, but it should be much less common for short and wide images. If you do encounter the crash, switching the orientation should avoid the crash. Hopefully the orientation workaround will allow you to be productive with InDesign until a future release contains the fix.
    Hope that helps

  • InDesign Crashed and Now Can't Open the File It Crashed On

I had a file open from a G4 server. I left and came back and my computer had gone to sleep losing the connection to the server. InDesign crashed with that file open and now I can't open the file at all I keep getting this error message:
Cannot open the document [document name]. You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-user access, close the file and then lock it using the File > Get Info command in the Finder.
The document is not open, on the server I forced the permissions to be all read and write for everyone, I dumped my InDesign preferences. What else can I do? Has anyone had this problem before? (I am connected to the server now that I'm trying to reopen it.)
When I started InDesign after it crashed, it asked me to recover the file and I tried to but it didn't open anything (I was not connected to the server at that point which may have screwed things up) There are two files in the InDesign Recovery folder one called 'RecoveryData' and one called 'DBTmp239689402256' both of which don't open in indesign.

You may want to back up your work on a regular basis. Check out Retrospect or Retrospect Light. Lots of computers come with the light version so you may already have it.

  • Indesign cs4 keeps crashing and won't even load on new macbook os lion? How do I fix this?

  • InDesign crashes every time I export to interactive PDF??

I am using InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 professional.
I have restarted the computer several times. CS6 is all up to date.
I have experimented on several existing documents as well as brand new documents. It makes no difference.
Interestingly, InDesign DOES export the interactive PDF just fine, I can open it and it works. However, before the document finishes processing, InDesign pops up an error message saying that InDesign has stopped working and must shut down. So when I have many PDFs from various files to export, it's a major pain to have indd crash & recover documents every time.
Files crash no matter what the content, I've tried new doc with only a yellow circle. I've tried new doc using only system fonts.
I've never used interactive PDFs before today, so I have no idea if this is a recent problem or not.
    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!!
    -Tia

Peter, ID is patched to version 8.0.2 & I followed the steps to replace my preference (and confirmed they were deleted) and I'm still having the same issue of ID crashing whenever I export an interactive PDF.
I've tested it on all four of our computers here, and it does it to everyone--so I'm guessing it's something system-wide on our part. I am going to trying uninstalling some plugins that we all have and report back later.

  • InDesign CS6 and CS5.5 Export to Interactive PDF

    Hi Guys,
I am having this huge problem when I tried to export 124 pages including links, buttons (show/hide) and video (mp4) to interactive PDF. However when I tried to use CS5.5 to export, it stops at page 98 and prompts an error that say cannot be exported. In CS6, it managed to pass the page 98 but hangs at page 123 till I got to force quit it.
I am able to export in pieces but not as a whole and I believe that it could be a memory or ram issue which is beyond my control.
This is the first time I have encountered this issue. Anyone have solutions for this?
    Mark Plunkett

I manage to combine them in Acrobat X and the links worked, I was happy but for a while. When I tried to save the combined PDF, same thing happened, it just keeps optimizing running at 100.3% of the resources. What I have noticed using my Activity Monitor in Mac is that InDesign renders it using 1GB or Ram while Acrobat only uses 380MB of Ram when I have 8GB of ram available in my Mac. More the reason why InDesign should have gone into 64-bit in CS6, but was dissapointed it did not.
I found the cause of the rendering issue, it is not so much about the vector or image size (it does play a part though), it is because I was using too much Show / Hide functions in the Buttons Panel. There seem to be a limit to how much you can use and on how many pages you can have them. I was doing a "Drop down menu" in the PDF with this particular function, each page have about 40 Show/Hide buttons, and there is a total of 124 pages. That is what caused it not to export out successfully, when I removed the buttons, it worked after waiting for 40 minutes of exporting the file, not very happy it took so long, however it got exported.
I think that both Acrobat and InDesign developers should start looking into able to use Scratch Disk or let the users optimize more Ram to the usage of the software.
Forgot to mention that this only worked in CS6, not even close in CS5.5

  • CS4 Indesign crashes when sending to print on Mavericks OS 10.9.1?

Does anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    EH

    Thanks for your response everyone.
First: My installation was a full install on a new Mac Book pro on OS 10,9.1.
(The installation was from an upgrade, but as a full version).
—I had updated to Java  1.6.0_65
—And had updated to the latest version of Adobe Drive.
—And had run all of the Adobe CS4 updates after installation.
i verified through my HP desktop printer vendor that there wasn't a problem with the printer connection or printer.
Then I worked with an Apple tech to troubleshoot this problem approaching it as a problem with the operating system. It proved not to be the Mavericks operating system but an Adobe software update problem.
I was also at the same time having a problem with Acrobat requesting entry of the Admin password each time before it would open.
I noticed that Acrobat had not updaed to the latest version of 9.5.5 in the install.
I mentioned this to the Apple tech and he researched Adobe's site to locate the sequential updates for Acrobat 9.0 to 9.5.5.
This problem ceased oddly enough when I corrected this problem with Adobe Acrobat requiring a password each time to open.
In order to stop Acrobat from requesting the Admin password, I manually downloaded and  installed from Adobe's site every Acrobat update in order from 9.0 to 9.5.5.
The problem with Acrobat stopped early on in the updates, but returned again in one of the later updates. It disappeared altogether after continuing with the sequential updates to 9.5.5 and Acrobat 9.5.5 is functioning beautifully. Also the automatic software update in Acrobat was not functioning in 9.0 from inside of Acrobat. But after doing all of the updates that feature is available. However 9.5.5 is the last update for Acrobat 9.
I then was able to run an update for InDesign CS4 from the InDesign automatic software update feature and now InDesign is printing without crashing.
I also with disk utility verified and repaired disk permissions after all of the updates were completed.
here's the link for the Acrobat updates
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
It worked for  my situation and I  hope this helps others with a similar problem.
You might make sure that there aren't any issues with printing from your desktop printer vendor and the Apple operating side first.

  • Multiple Crashes and Errors

I accidentally posted this in another forum, so I'm going to paste my old post here, and see where it gets me:
"I've posted this on the discussions forum, but I thought I would ask everywhere just incase.
When I try to delete my trash, the Finder restarts/relaunches, and the files in the trash do not delete, unless I hold down the Optionopenapplecontrol keys when I attempt to delete.
Alternately, I cannot delete or bounce any messages in the Mail program. The program crashes. This just started recently, as in the last couple of days. I really need this to be fixed, as I have people who need to use the computer and I don't want to have to take it back for repairs. It was repaired, had the logic/mother board replaced last month because the fans ran at full speed, even with snow on the ground and an airconditioner running full speed, and an Airport card put in.
    Other info:
    G5, iMac, OS X 10.3.9
256MB RAM, 74 GB originally, 54.87 GB remaining
Purchased October 29, 2004 w/the three year support.
    What I have tried:
Repaired permissions through the regular permission repair, and the Install/Start Up CD.
    Trashed the mail.plist file.
Moved the Mail folder to the desktop.
Ran disk first aid through the Install/Start Up CD.
What I am going to try next:
Norton Disk Doctor via Start Up. It got an error with the regular program, then crashed. Something about a leaf? It seems when I get a pop up or warning that requires "OK" or "Cancel", the program crashes. Any idea why this is happening? Is it my software? What is it? How can I fix it? "
I was told not to use Norton at all, but I did, as I hadn't checked the messages before running it, and it said that I had major problems, but "fixed" them. I noticed that Everytime my computer gives me an option that will make a major change (bouncing an email, permanently deleting emails from Mail, emptying the trash), the program will crash OR the Finder will relaunch. This just started yesterday afternoon, around 6pm, after I had printed large amounts of printouts. I'm unsure what caused this, as it seems lately just using the computer causes it to malfunction, and need repairs. I really don't want to put it back in the shop. I was told, in another forum, to use Disk Warrior:
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/details.html
Would that work or help? Is it better than Norton? I really can't afford to keep putting my computer in the shop, not financially, as it's free, but time wise and the fact that I need it for work, now, would really make it hard for me to get other things done. Any solutions? Suggestions? Thoughts? Ideas? I'm open to anything here.

  • Crashing and errors when I try to access the App Store

Every time I try to update my software or access the App store on my iMac, it crashes with an error report. I don't know what to do? I have
OS X 10.8.2, but I can't hit software update without the crash report. Help!

Finally found a “genius” that was able to fix it – buried deep in the root folder was a cache folder that had to be rebuilt.  He had to create a new "text" account on my machine, access the app, and then copy the cache file from the test account over to my account and change all the permissions so that it would allow me to access it.  The presto – both apps began to work correctly.
