CS4 InDesign Pages taking off to R or upper R suddenly

CS4 InDesign 6.0.4, OS 10.6.2, Mighty Mouse (the new flat one with no buttons on top), Mac Pro Computer with Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Hello and Thanks again for Help. We are trying to figure out if this is coming from the newly installed CS4 on Monday or if it is because of the computer getting a new logic board plus the new 3rd party RAM (which was replaced by the co. 3 times) installed and checked at Apple.
Now, since Monday, when I am working in InDesign on my multipage documents, all of a sudden the page takes off to the right or upper right. Or all of a sudden the document takes off and goes to the lst page or the last page. This mouse has no scroll bar on top to accidently hit any more. This is making it very hard to work when the page disappears on you.
The pasteboard stays in location as far as I can tell.
Is anyone else having any problems with CS4 pages taking off on them while they are trying to work.

I think you mean the Magic Mouse (the touch sensitive one), the Mighty Mouse is the one that has a scroll ball on the top(?)
If it is the Magic Mouse then you need to turn the scrolling speed down in your preferences. I just switched to the Magic Mouse a few weeks ago it does take some 'learning' to get the movement right as there is no adjustment for the sensitivity of the touch.

  • CS4 InDesign. Upgraded. Now pages taking off on me but only in InDesign

I thought maybe it was the mouse or the computer new mother board or the OS 10.6 that we upgraded to a week or so ago. Also upgraded to InDesign in CS4 at same time.
Now the page takes off on me to the right side or upper right corner or takes off on me to page 1.
Hot corners is not the issue. I am not mousing differently from week before all the upgrades and installs.
*** This is only in InDesign in CS4.... not in Photoshop.
    I know = wierd isn't it.
Mac, OS 10.6.2, CS 4 v 6.0.4. Newest mouse from Apple which is the flat one with no scroll bar in it. Mouse was behaving before all the upgrades. Can't go backwards to prev. OS. (not an option w. our computer tech person)

It must be an oversight by the Adobe programmers.
(Background: traditionally, scroll wheels sent their 'scroll' message once per click, but also sent an amount of 'click' -- say, '20'. I remember when the first scroll wheels came out, Microsoft warned not to rely on that single 'click' message, but to use the click amount instead, to (paraphrasing from memory) "foresee scroll wheels with a higher resolution".
Here comes InDesign CS4. Someone thinks "1 click message == 1 fixed amount of scrolling", and, because 1 amount of scrolling equals something like one pixel, multiplies that by twenty. One click on your old fashioned mouse wheel -> move 20 pixels.
On to the "scroll wheel with a higher rez" -- the Magic Mouse. Instead of one click, value 20, it sends twenty clicks, value 1. Every program moves 20 units, except for InDesign -- that one moves 20 x 20 = 400 units. Instant headache.)

  • CS4 InDesign Page bouncing all over Esp. attn: Bob Levine

I had posted a posting about InDesign CS4 - In InDesign only = the page bouncing all over the place esp. to right side or upper right corner.
We focused on the new flat mouse from Apple.
Interesting note! I opened Illustrator CS4 for lst time last Friday since I installed CS4.
All of a sudden InDesign would not "load" and open at all! It said it needed a Spelling Service installed. So called Adobe. They had me uninstall and reinstall... which did nothing. Same message came up. Adobe said to create a new account in system preferences. But that made me nervous so I waited till the tech person came today. We tried un-installing and reinstalling again. No luck. Same message and could not open InDesign. So we uninstalled using the Adobe uninstall. This time, in addition, we also went back and manually dragged anything re. InDesign CS4 to trash, emptied trash and restarted computer. This time we got in! And InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Bridge all seem to be working OK.... though the tech just left and I haven't done a lot with it yet.
And here's a side note! Now the page does not appear to be bouncing all over.
The tech person thinks that it may not have been the mouse. I don't know if this would be considered a bug or something that just happened to me??
Thanks again for all the help you give!!!

    What version of InDesign?

  • CS4 InDesign not printing correctly on HP1320 LaserJet for 2-sided booklets

I'm trying to print chapters in a book, using 2-sided printing from CS4 InDesign (V 6.0.4) to an HP1320 LaserJet printer using an iMac computer. This used to work with CS InDesign (V 3.0.1) using a Dell PC and the same printer. The page prints on both sides, but is limited to 8.5 inches of the 11 in side.  [My pages are 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 with two pages on one side of the page; when finished, the book is 5 1/2" by 8.5".] I've tried lots of combinations of page orientation in both the InDesign File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Setup and in the File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Printer... but nothing seems to solve this. Any suggestions?  Thanks.

You need to be sure the print dialog is set up to print the pages in landscape orientation.
    -=-=-=-=-
I'd be happy to try. Here are the steps I take, but you should realize that I've done this so many times over the past several days (up to a couple of weeks) that I try different things each time.
I've got a couple of book projects that use similar formats. One is a textbook and the second is a daily log I keep (not always "daily"). Both are printed and bound to become books that are on the order of 400 to 500 pages and are 8.5" by 5.5" in size.  So, I have a file I want to print and I want it to come out with side-by-side 5.5 x 8.5" pages (two on each side of an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper (i.e., two sided printing).
In InDesign, I click on File, Print Booklet..., and here is what the window looks like: [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.51.44 PM.pgn.]
To get it to show "Booklet Type: 2-up Saddle Stitch," I had to click on "Print Settings" at the bottom and select "Setup" and then "Orientation: landscape (2nd from the left on the choice of four orientations)."  I also usually go to "Page Setup..." and make sure I chose "Orientation: landscape."
Then I go to the "Printer..." button at the bottom of the "Print" window and select things so it looks like this:  [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.57.44 PM.pgn.]
To get this, I had to click on the "Layout" option and then "Booklet Printing." That automatically selected "Two-Sided" printing.
As far as choices go, I think that is it.
The page that printed most recently with those settings came out with four (not two) pages on each side of the page. Further, the four pages that printed on the back side of the sheet of paper were upside down relative to those on the front side. This may be the result of using "2-up Saddle Stitch" but I'm not sure of that.
But here is the problem that has really been bugging me: the pages on one side of the paper don't go as far toward the margin as they should. Here is one example of low-res pictures of the front of the page that printed.
The page shows two full "pages" along the left top and right top, but along the left and right bottom pages, only about half of the pages printed.  The back side of the sheet of paper was similar, with only half of the "pages" showing for two of the four pages on this side.
So, I hope this is enough information for you. I'd be happy to provide more if needed. And thank you for even attempting to help. I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks (I'm retired, so I sure don't spend full time on it, but I sure have spent hours at it, all to no avail).

  • CS4 InDesign Server hangs

I've ran into a problem where the my CS4 InDesign Server hangs.
I'm adding pages dynamically using the JAVA API.  Basically I go through all the content, check to see if I've reached the ParagraphStyle that indicates the "end" of the document.  If not, I add a page, flow the content into a text frame on that page & check if I've reached the end.  If not I add another page.  And so on until I finally reach the end. But it ends up hanging while attempting to do this.  What's odd, it works the first 5-10 times, but it takes longer and longer each time it adds a page until around the 10th page or so, it completely stops.  I'm using the "duplicate(OptLocationOptionsEnum arg0, OptVariableType arg1)" method on the com.adobe.ids.layout.Page object.
Any ideas?  I can provide sample code if it would help.

    Hi Chandi,
          If Microsoft fix is not working or it is too old to apply then go for manual process i.e.;
In the Microsoft KB article follow this :-
Services that use the local system account to log on to a Windows Server 2003-based computer start if the Allow service to interact with desktop
option is turned on. To turn this option on, follow these steps:
In the Services tool, click the service that you want to start, and then click Properties.
Right-click the Log On tab, and then click to select the Allow service to interact with desktop check box.
Click OK to exit the Properties dialog box.
       This will solve your problem.

  • InDesign documents opening off-centre

    Hi,
Noticing a few bugs with the new CC apps and one that keeps cropping up is whenever I open an existing document (normally a landscape document) Indesign places it off-centre to the right of the screen. I've got the panels on the right docked to the right edge of the screen and the document isn't set to 'facing pages' which I know can sometimes create the same problem.
Not a major issue but just wondered if anyone gets the same problem and if there is a way to fix it.
    Thanks

  • Indesign page jumps unpredictably

When editing text on an InDesign page, my entire page block jumps erratically to one side or off the visible window.
There doesn't seem to be any consistent action making this happen. ID is the only editing software in which this occurs.

Is that happening on every document?
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
    Or just that document?

It could be a bit of both - so try both options.

  • CS4 auto page insert: master page frame or not

In CS4 the preferences for auto page insert allow to turn off 'limit to master pages'.
However, don't see much difference wether it is on or off. The Help file states that if you do NOT use master text frames, a new textframe should be inserted, one column between the margins.
Can not get this to work when limit to master pages is off. What am I misreading...?
(It is funny sometimes: I have 'delete empty pages' checked (it is on). Now make a document 3 pages long. OK, now draw a empty text frame on page one. Do the same on page 2.
Now connect both text frames: page 2 disappears. This is to be expected but be aware of this.
Now insert text in the textframe on page one that does not fit totally in this textframe: overset symbol appears.
Now where is page 2 that was 'auto deleted' and had the threaded text frame?
Nope, it does NOT appear again!
I admit I still have to get to grip with this, so what DOES the switch 'limit to master pages' on/off have for effect...)

Yes, I know. But maybe my point came over the wrong way. If you have auto page delete on, you have three pages and a textframe that spans page 1 and 2, but not yet text in it, and you connect the empty text frames, page 2 will disappear. Now fill page one with overset, page 2 won't do anything because it needs two pages.
Disable auto page delete and it will work.
Just wondering why it was designed this way, that's all ;-)

  • Adobe CS4: InDesign makes server crash.

    The situation is like this:
We have a client with some Windows XP and Windows 7 computers. These computers are using Adobe CS4 InDesign.
We are encountering server issues (freezes) due to the use of InDesign.
All clients have InDesign installed locally. The files they use are stored on a server:
Windows Small Bussiness Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008 R2); 16 GB RAM,  RAID5 disk setup; Data drive has 60% free space.
All hardware has been replaced recently.
The Network is an 1 Gbps LAN environment.
For now, we know that the server freezes as soon as someone uses InDesign.
We presume this is because off the directory of some files may be changed on the server. Since InDesign works with a database,
it can’t find the required file and freezes.
Is anyone familiar with this problem? Does someone know if there is a hotfix?
If you know more about this or have you had identical problems as well? Please let us know.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Are you saying that the server freezes or that InDesign running on the clients freezes?
And what exactly do you mean by freezes? Stops and needs to be rebooted?
The only operations that InDesign running on a client system does associated with a server is to issue file open, read, write, and close operations. It is not running on the server itself and in theory cannot freeze the server.
Provide a bit more information and maybe we can be of further assistance.

  • In normal view, half the page disappears off right of screen. in full screen this does not happen. what can be done to correct the screen ratio for normal screen?

version 5 loaded on windows 7. all went well for a while. one day while using, ratio of normal screen doubled in width; i.e. half the page disappears off the screen to the right (on a wide screen). when full screen mode applied, ratio is fine. it only happens in normal view, which is the usually prefered option. I cannot determine any means within the program to resize the normal screen. nothing else is affected, only mozilla firefox in normal view. not that when program is opened from keyboard the page is correct for a moment, then enlarges the width with 1/2 page dissappearing.

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar 1.1.8 extension

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
    1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
    2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
    3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
    4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
    To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
    "Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.
Anyone have those and want to try this... ?

In case this really bothers you: we've added a workaround for this into Soxy. If you enable the option, these documents will open fine on double-click.
    You need Soxy 1.0.7 from:
    http://www.rorohiko.com/soxy
Go to the 'Soxy' - 'Preferences' - 'Other' dialog window, and enable 'Open InDesign via Script'
(Irrelevant background info (it's all invisible to the user): the workaround works by special-casing how Soxy opens documents in InDesign: instead of using AppleScript, Soxy will use ExtendScript to instruct InDesign to open the document - which works fine).

  • MBP frequently slows down and sounds like an aircraft taking off

I have the original MBP with the following: OS X 10.5.6, Processor: 2.16Ghz Intel Core Duo, Memory: 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, 120GB HD
I've recently started to notice that while running 2-3 applications my MBP's drive will frequently (happens about 4-5 times a day) start sounding like an aircraft taking off and some of the system resources jump up to around 100%.
What can I do to remedy this situation?

Take it to your nearest Apple Store so they can hear it for themselves. Or if you have AppleCare or your computer is still under warranty, call Apple. If you computer really is that loud, then the Apple techs should have no problem hearing your computer +taking off+ over the phone.
    Let Apple deal w/it.

  • CS4 Indesign Printing issues

Hi, We have a new Mac Pro Tower we just purchased with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. We are using Adobe Indesign CS4 Version 6.0.6. I have an Indesign project that I need to print to our Canon ImagePress C1 with a fiery. I go to File>Print, then it shows it's kind of preparing it to be sent to our printer. This canon printer has worked seamlessly when we had Leopard 10.5 using CS4. It's only been since we received the new Mac Pro Tower. The Canon printer has a Fiery attached and we use the latest driver for that Fiery. All the images in this file are .tiff's. The user does have Pre-Flight on and the Print Preset: Custom, Printer: Canon Color Printer, PPD: Canon iPR Server T1 Ver.1.0. I set up the printer in the Print & Fax Dialog using the IP address, with LPD Protocol, Queue name blank (as we never had to really use one in the past). and Print Using the iPR Server T1 driver. Rebooted the Mac, ran disk utility from the CD. I have been working on this issue for a couple of days now and found many troubleshooting tips on the internet but none have worked. Is there something in the new OS X Snow Leopard that is not working with CS4 Indesign now? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!

What fonts are you using? Are they PS Type1 by any chance? The update to 10.6.7 has introduced some problems with the older Type 1 fonts. Do a Google search for Mac 10.6.7, Type 1 font problem to see some discussions.

  • Pages hanging off display screen

Even with a window minimized as much as possible, my pages hang off the edges of the screen by several inches.
What do I need to do to make the corners of my monitor and the corners of a page the same?
For instance, right now I see the apple Logo top L, the green, red, yellow buttons all off screen to L with this page centered on the screen.
It's been this way a long time, but it may be noteworthy that over TG, hooked it up to hd TV and did mess around with the display in system pref; right now 1920x1080 is checked. But this problem predates that setting.
    Advice?
