CS4 InDesign to PDF: Out of memory error

I have a user that gets an interesting error when attempting to PDF a particular file from InDesign.
I know each ID file holds a lot of settings and links to resources so it is likely that particular file that is causing the problem as other ID files PDF just fine!
What happens it it flashes on the screen Error: Out of Memory then opens a text file in notepad with the error below.
The PC has 4GB of memory, so I doubt its a memory problem!
Error text file displayed:
%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[Page: 1]%%
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller ]%%
Stack:
-dict-
-mark-
-save-
-mark-
-save-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced
I just suggested that she create a new ID file as I am sure that one will print fine, but it would be nice to know how to check & repair ID files in the future...  Any help tips are appreciated...

To complex of a vector graphic or to large of a file to write out.  It's usually due to too much transparency interaction and big files.
Try and write out a Postscript file and distill.

  • InDesign Giving Me "Out of Memory" Error

    Hi all,
I've been getting an "out of memory" error coming up on several projects I work on in InDesign. Most recently was a 189 page document, mostly text, some imported photos and PDFs. Usually I'd hit okay on the dialog box, but it pops up several times to the point where I can't do anything but quit and restart the program.
I've been looking around and read that it's InDesign's own memory and has nothing to do with the computer that I'm using. If that's true, is this just what sometimes happens with larger files? It really messes with my work flow, so if there's anything I can do other than just sit back and let it tweak out, I'd prefer it.
InDesign is CS5, computer is Windows 7.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Maybe I'm reading your response wrong, but you're saying a simple save as might alleviate this whole thing?
Unfortunately I'm not getting the error right this very second, so I can't replicate it, but it's happened very recently and likely to happen again, so I'd like to know how to deal with it in the future.
    Thanks!

  • Indesign cs5.5 out of memory error

    Hi,
I am having constant problems with out of memory errors in indesign cs5.5 (version 7.5.3).  I am on a mac. Everything is up to date, I have preflight off, my display performance is on typical view and have tried restarted my computer multiple times.  I do not have any other programs open and the document I have open is 3 pages (8.5x11) with little content and a couple links to small images.  I do not know what to do!  This is affecting my job and my performance!! Please help!!!  Thank you!

    close the application
Rename the preferences from the following location
    /Users/[User Name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version #
    /Users/[User Name]/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version [#]
then open a new document and then open the document you are facing an issue with it should clear the memory issue temporally
    Alternate :
copy and paste the content in a new document and check if the 1st option does not work
PS : changing the folder name would reset the preferences
refer to KB : InDesign preferences and support file locations

  • InDesign CS5.5 Out of memory error on a i7 2.8ghz imac with 12GB RAM

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4605576#4605576
this is the post that has much of the same issue but my difference is that i am on Indesign 5.5.
To shed some more insight, I am trying to make a press quality PDF direct from Indesign.
I have 2 pages in my document, I was able to get one page PDFed buth the larger was not able to.

Why won't it PDF? What error is it showing? Do other presets work? What does your layout look like?
Have you tried removing elements one at a time and exporting it and seeing which element is causing the issue?
Have you got images on the page - perhaps resaving them to a different format and relinking them will help?
I sincerely doubt it's out of memory, seen as I work on a computer with 3gb RAM and a Intel Core 2 2.13ghz processor and I never get that issue.

  • Out of memory error, while using Adobe InDesign

I have been running Adobe inDesign for a couple of years with no problems. This is the first time I got a, "Out of memory" error when attempting to save the document as a PDF.
Windows 7, Dell Studio XPS, 2.80 GHz Processor, Memory: 9 GB Dram, Hard Drive: 1.5 TB, 1.56 MB cache.
    Firefox v33.02
What should I do to get back the memory?
    Thank you,
    Don Schaaf

Hi Don, is this an Adobe site you are using in a Firefox tab, or the stand-alone InDesign application?
If it's in the application, you may want to try Adobe's forum. You also could try closing other open applications to have them release memory and then try creating the PDF again.
Please note that if Firefox has been running for a long time and is using a lot of memory, it may take several minutes to release it all, as various files are (slowly) updated at shutdown. You can monitor its progress in the Windows Task Manager on the Process tab. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager, and then click the processes tab. Firefox will be listed under firefox.exe here. Please allow it to shut down normally instead of using the End Process button, unless it appears to hang (no movement in the amount of memory used for several minutes).

  • Indesign cs5 'out of memory' error when using preflight

I have been regulary getting an 'out of memory' error when i choose to use my bespoke preflight profile.
I have 4gig of ram and run Indesign CS5 on OS 10.6.8.
Does anyone know a work around?
As soon as I select from the basic default profile, i get the beach ball from hell for 10mins, then it kindly lets me know that I am out of memory, sends a crash report to Adobe and then asks if I want to relauch. I'm stuck in a vicious circle. I must of sent my 4th crash report now and no feedback from anyone at Adobe.

I have replaced my preferences, but still the problem persists. I have tried switching my view from typical display to fast display before i selected a profile. I thought this may give me the extra memory I needed to avoid the enevitable crash. I learnt that 2 files were indeed rgb instead of cmyk before it crashed again. So I switched them to cmyk and tried again, selected my bespoke profile, but yet again it crashed. I think the problem lies with the file, not Indesign, as i have tried the same profile on a different file and the program doesn't crash and runs as it should. So if in future I need to use said crashing file again, firstly i will need to try Peter's isolate fix method. Otherwise i'll never be able to progress to successful a pdf.

  • InDesign - out of memory error

    Hi All,
One of a clients is experiencing a issue whilst using InDesign CS4 version 6.0.5, they are constantly interrupted by an “Out of Memory” error while using InDesign.
They have been experiencing this issue for some time now and we have performed memory upgrades and also upgraded to version 6.0.5 (which was meant to solve the issue) several months ago and yet they are still getting this issue.
The issue that they are experiencing is the following error that was said to have been resolved in the 6.0.5 update.
Document containing hundreds of text frames and custom baseline grids takes a long time to open and
causes an “out of memory” error, followed by an unexpected quit. [2253219]
Has there been another hot fix or a known resolution for this issue? Anyone else experiencingthis?
    Cheers,
    Allan

    Hi Scott,

    OS:     Windows Vista Business 32-Bit
    RAM:  3GB DDR2

  • InDesign CC Out of Memory Error message problem

I am getting an Out of Memory Error message in InDesign CC and it is crashing. Very unusual and not a particularly lage file. Contains a few PDFs and crashes tend to be when scrolling- is it a screen redraw problem?

Does it have an SSD or conventional hard drive? How much free space?
For testing you should create and log into a new user account and see if the problem persists. That will narrow the possibilities to either user-related or document/application/system problems of some sort. Is this happening frequently? More than the one file? If it's just the one, try this: Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Out of Memory error on some PDF's, not all PDF's.

    Hi there,
I have read most of the posts in the forums that relate to 'Out of Memory' issues with PDF's and I have to say that there is still no solution that I have found.
I have tried reinstalling Adobe Reader, Flash Player and tried clearing my Temp Files. None of these fixed the issue.
The PDF's that receive this memory error are downloaded off a CMS website that has many offices and logins. Only one office is experiencing this out of memory issue so we know that it is not an issue with generating the PDF's on the CMS website, otherwise all the offices and logins would have this issue, since they use the same system.
I am an admin of that CMS website and even I receive the same out of memory issue when I try and view the PDF's from that office, as the customer does.
When we open these PDF's with another PDF reading program, the PDF's open fine. So that tells me that the issue lies with Adobe Reader and not the PDF file itself.
These PDF files that are receiving the error about 1MB-4MB, so they are not large.
Could you please tell me the solution to this out of memory error as we may lose a customer because your product is producing an error that does not seem to have been fixed after years of being reported by your customers.
    Thanks.

As an Adobe Reader XI user, if I may put my two cents in, that "Out of Memory" problem is not with the Adobe Reader XI application, which was installed on our computers! I think, the problem is with how the PDF documents, which we were trying to open, were generated (or regenerated).
I remember I was able to open my old credit card statement online without any problem and now I am not able to open the same old statement (out of memory) because it could have been regenerated! In fact, I could not open any of my credit card statements (old or new) on this specific credit card web site, which makes me believe those statments were regenerated or somthing with some new Adobe software.
As others mentioned, even I'm able to view other PDF documents without any problem.

  • Getting 'Out of memory' error while opening the file. I have tried several versions of Adobe 7.0,9.0,X1. It is creating issue to convert PDF into TIFF. Please provide the solution ASAP

    Hello All,
I am getting 'Out of memory' error while opening the file. I have tried several versions of Adobe 7.0,9.0,X1.
Also, it is creating issue to convert PDF into TIFF. Please provide the solution ASAP.

I am using Adobe reader XI. When i open PDF it gives "OUT of memory" error after scrolling PDF gives another alert "Insufficient data for an image". after clicking both alerts it loads full data of PDF. It is not happening with all PDFs. couple of PDFs are facing this issue. Because of this error my software is not able to print these PDFS into TIFF. My OS in window7*64. I tried it on win2012R2 and XP. Same issue is generating there.
It has become critical issue for my production.

  • Keep getting Out of Memory error on InDesign CC 2014

I work with 5 documents on a daily basis that can have over 150 images imported each. When I try to move around the document, it either freezes up and the wheel keeps turning or it comes up with an Out of Memory error message and locks up. It also will just quit.
I had seen somewhere about being able to "assign" a certain amount of memory to the software using the "get info" panel, but I can't find any reference to memory on the "get info" panel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    CJ

I inherited the file from a previous employee and they had lots of embedded files. I am slowly replacing them with linked as they are updated. Are linked or embedded better?

  • Data merge with football tickets. Printing causes out of memory errors. Can only print 10 at a time!

Here's the deal. Printing football tickets for the local high school. 10 tickets per 8.5 x 11 sheet. All black and white. I couldn't data merge into one whole document of tickets because it was failing to do that. So, I end up with 3 documents. First two have 50 pages of tickets and the last has 37 pages.
When I go to print, I can only print 10 pages at a time or InDesign straight up crashes or I get an "Out of Memory" error which is bull because I've got plenty of ram available (unless it's complaining about lack of HD space for some reason)
    Incredibly frustrating.
Each ticket has 3 images on it. Two of the images are the same. Those two images are about 103kb .ai files. Very very simple. The other image is a TIFF that is about 76kb. So there are 1000 .ai files / document and 500 TIFFs.
Here's a video I took of it ripping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCjvdmXuaYs&feature=c4-overview&list=UUf_1UFp80YLZJfCyIxXEg kg
Also, when printing, I have the Send Data set to Optimized Subsampling instead of "All". That's not seeming to help.
    Any thoughts?
    IDCS 5.5
    OSX 10.8.4

I just ran a sample on my laptop.
AI file, duplicated, is 284k. Image is roughly 200k. The CSV has 2054 records, and the merged document with 10 per page is 250 megabytes. PDF is just under 50 megs.
This laptop has only 4 gigs memory but has a lot of free disk space. It took a good amount of time to do the merge, a bit longer to create the PDF-X1a PDF.
