CS4 installation 64 & 32 bit versions

I installed Photoshop CS4 on my 64 bit machine and inadvertantly installed both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions.  Is there an easy way to delete the 32 bit version or do I have to delete it all and start over?

The 32 bit version is there incase some of your 3rd party add-ons do not have 64 bit drivers. Plus 64 bit version does not support twain so if you want to use PS to scan you have to use 32 bit PS. I would leave it on as it hurts nothing and you never know when you may need it.
That information clears up a problem I have noted with Win 7 64 bit and Photoshop. With my epson scanner under 64 bit there is only WIA support, which has a simplified and dumbed down interface:
However, with the 32 bit version, one has a choice of WIA or Twain, and the Twain interface is much better:
From what I read, the limitatiion is in the operating system and now with Photoshop.

I can't seem to find an actual document that states there is a 64-bit version for Windoes 7. Any help grealy appreciated..

There is no 64-bit version of Adobe Reader, and no 64-bit plugin for web browsers.
What should happen if you click on a PDF link in a 64-bit browser is the document opening in an external Adobe Reader window.
Works fine on my Windows 7 x64 system on both IE9 and Waterfox.
I suggest that you try a repair installation (from Adobe Reader Help), or uninstall / reinstall Reader.

  • Photoshop CS4 32 bit settings work for 64 bit version?

Anyone know if Photoshop CS4 32 bit settings work for 64 bit version?  I just installed Windows 7 x64 and I want to use my backup Photoshop CS4 settings from the 32 bit version.  Will there be any problems?
Also, it seems that since I'm on 64 bit Windows 7, the installer forces me to install the 64 bit version of Photoshop CS4, although the 32 bit version is optional.  Are the 32 bit settings stored in a different location from the 64 bit version?  Or will both version use the same settings from the same place?

I think you are misunderstanding me. The sharing happens via the user home directory (C:\Users\[You]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe ...). 64bit specific settings will be denoted with an X64 in their file name, 32bit settings will be without any extra tags. Beyond that, the programs do not access each other's program directory, which shouldn't be required in the first place, as the default templates are the same for both to begin with. You can of course also copy your brushes and presets to the program directories, but then you will have to worry twice about keeping them in sync.

  • I have downloaded Elements 13 but it is the 32 bit version. How do I get the 64 bit version

When downloading Elements 13, how do I get the option to choose between the 32 and 64 bit versions? I am automatically getting the 32 bit version which is no good for my operating system.

Afraid that doesn't help. I have successfully gone through the installation process, however it automatically installs the 32 bits version. My operating system is 64 bits and I get the message to download the 64 bit version, but when I try to reinstall I cannot see any page that gives me an option for which version to download.

  • 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows

I'm running 64-bit version of Windows 7 via bootcamp.  I'm running 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010.  I have the latest version of Quicktime installed 7.7.3 something.  I can play the file on the desktop no problem, but when I try to insert the file into Powerpoint or play a file that I inserted previously into Powerpoint on a different system, it says either Quicktime unavailable or you need a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert the file.
So, exactly where is a 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows because apparently the one on the Apple website for Windows is not 64-bit.  Everyone keeps saying download the 64-bit version of Quicktime.  Great, tell me where it is.  There is no option for 64-bit on the website.  It doesn't even say it is 64-bit.  It just says its compatible with Windows 7.  Powerpoint 2010 64-bit MUST have a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert or play any Quicktime file.  The OS doesn't give a rats @ss one way or the other.
The file I previously inserted was playing on a system that apparently had a 32-bit version of Powerpoint installed.  That machine defaults to VLC player on the desktop.  It has no issues with the file.  It's the Quicktime Player mismatch on my machine that is giving me grief.  If I knew Office was going to be a PITA if I installed the 64-bit version I would have stuck with the 32-bit version.
Ideas?  Where is the 64-bit version?  How do you tell it is 64-bit?  How do you force the installer to make sure it ONLY installs a 64-bit version of it?

If Microsoft merely off their own decided that only a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be supported by them and did not both checking such a beast existed then this is perfectly believable behavior on the part of Microsoft and they should roast in **** for it.
If Apple led Microsoft to believe that a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be released like a 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows has been released but then backed out then this is equally believeable behaviour on the part of Apple and then equally the guilty parties at Apple should roast in ****.
It should be noted that the 64-bit version of iTunes is able to play videos via the 32-bit version of QuickTime. This suggests Microsoft programmers are weak with the force. This would tend to support my theory that Microsoft despite being the biggest software company in the world are better at making hardware than software.
Moving on to trying to be more constructive…
Clearly as things stand using the existing and only official version of QuickTime for Windows which is 32-bit only is not going to work in 64-bit Office. It might therefore be worth looking at trying the following.
Uninstall completely Apple's 32-bit QuickTime for Windows (if installed currently)
Install QuickTime Alternative - see http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
I have no idea if QuickTime Alternative is 64-bit, I have no idea if it will work in 64-bit Office even if it is 64-bit. However it does work in Internet Explorer for Windows, it is free and therefore will cost you nothing to try. If it does not work you can then always uninstall it.
As another even more abtruse solution, you could try loading your PowerPoint file in to the free iWorks i.e. KeyNote via a free iCloud account. It will allow importing PowerPoint files and will even work in Internet Explorer.

  • How to define 64 or 32 bit version of Photoshop is installed on computer?

    Hi,
Is there way to determinate (from registry for example) 64 or 32 bit version of Photoshop is installed on computer?
Both versions (32 and 64 bit) have identical records in registry.
    Dmitry

If you are a 64 bit app you can see both the 32 and 64 bit parts of the registry. See the WOW64 section for the 32 bit entries. If you are a 32 bit process you should only see the 32 bit side of the registry.
The interesting keys would be here
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0\
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0\
If you can find the second key then you are a 64 bit machine and the wow6432 is where the 32 bit version is and the other key is where the 64 bit version is. If you only find the first key you are 32 bit version and that is where the 32 bit version is. This is in theory as what happens if a user only installs the 64 bit version.
    What I do is...
If I want to launch 32 I run cscript out of windows\syswow64. The 32 bit version of cscript.
If I want to launch 64 I run cscript out of windows\system32. The 64 bit version of cscript.
Which is pretty funny given the names of the folders!
The type of user running the program of course plays into this as well. I am an Administrator and have that pesky 'are you sure you want to do something' dialog boxes OFF.
I also think you can look at some environment variables to see if you are 32 running on a 64 bit os. But I have not played with those much. Here are some interesting ones from my machine.
    PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=AMD64
    ProgramFiles=H:\Program Files
    ProgramFiles(x86)=H:\Program Files (x86)
    ProgramW6432=H:\Program Files

I haven't been installed worng. But same browser like Chrome or IExplore got crazy installation.

Than it happens with Zinc Studio because Flash Player 64 Bit doesn't support yet.
But Flash Player Installer was getting worng installing on directory System32 ( 32 Bit ) That is crazy by Adobe Installer Please improve that Adobe Installer!
PS: Sorry my Operating System is German Language , Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit, Visual-Theme Android.
    Thanks for answers

You actually have to blame Microsoft for this; on 64-bit systems:
32-bit stuff is installed in the syswow64 folder
64-bit stuff is installed in the system32 folder
I haven't read all in your long post, but if you try to run Flash content in a 32-bit browser and a 64-bit browser, you will see that everything works fine.  Check http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html 1. & 2.

  • Photoshop CS4 - How to install both   64 and 32 bit versions on XP 64

    Hello-
When I installed Photoshop CS4 along with the other apps on CS4 Web Premium I thought that both versions of PShop would be installed by default, but that was not the case with my installation; only the 64 bit version was installed.
Now I would like to install the 32 bit version but when I try to do it through setup I am unable to check the box. There is a list of "Installed Products" and then "Available Products"; the only thing under "Available Products" is Photoshop CS4, but I am unable to check the box.
Any ideas on how I can install the 32-bit version? I want it for the GPU acceleration and to use certain plugins.
    Thanks,
    Paul

a)re: built for XP64 - note that I said "gave the [erroneous] impression," meaning that someone could plausibly infer that PSCS4 64 will not run reliably on XP 64, which is categorically untrue. I am NOT saying that there are not people who have had problems and will continue having problems with PS CS4 on XP 64.* However, I am personally attesting - having worked with PS CS on my XP 64 system a lot since buying it this week, including continuously since I reinstalled last night ( I tend to work at night) - that PS CS4 runs gloriously on XP 64, INCLUDING the OpenGL stuff once you patch the reg via the link I posted (which, by the way, would have been a valid answer to my question).
On that note, telling me stuff that I already know is NOT a valid answer. Further, as we have seen, my running this on XP 64, as opposed to Vista, was irrelevant, if only (but not really only) because that is not the system to which my question referred. How did telling me about Vista help? If you don't know what to do with XP 64, then you don't know....I didn't know either, at least when I posed my question. Your reference to Vista was POINTLESS.
    b) re: installing to non-default directory. I have been doing this for so long that I can't remember not doing it, and I have never, ever had a problem like this, and I do have other dual-bit depth apps. This should be a non-issue. If I thought it was relevant I would have mentioned it, but in light of what I just said, it did not seem to be a factor. Crikey- CS3 is in that same directory! Why would Adobe's installer get confused? They are the same structures, i.e. %disk%:\Program Files, %disk%:\Program Files (x86). If you knew things that might cause my problem - you didn't-you might have asked about my install.... Instead, you told me what anyone who had read my question would already know that I knew, namely that there would be two different locations for the two different versions. Incidentally, and here's good intel here, when you do get them both installed, you get BOTH versions listed in your Adobe CS4 whatever edition programs folder. Right there! So, if you had known what you were on about, you would have realized that there was NO WAY that PS 32 was mysteriously hiding somewhere. This is another clue that you knew nothing about the subject you were purportedly answering!
So why, why, why am I picking on you? Because there was a time when you could post a simple question on the internets and some helpful soul would take the time to actually read and consider the question before giving an answer that, even if not ultimately fruitful, was at least in the freaking ballpark. But those days are gone** and even though I know that and I expect nothing, I posted anyway, and along came you, with two heaping helpings of SQUAT in terms of useful advice. What the hey? Are you that bored that you just dole out crappy advice? Watch more TV or something!
    Jeez!
    Thanks,
    Paul
*My relevant system specs are as follows, for those who may want to give XP 64 a shot: and/or are having problems:
XP 64 SP2 ( there is no SP3 for 64 and parenthetically I will note that CS4 on XP 32 SP2 runs fine even though you get a warning on install that it is supposed to have SP3 installed)
    8 GB RAM
AMD 64X2 5600 on AMD/ATI 780G Chipset with dual integrated ATI 3200 Graphic plus an extra ATI 3400 card running three different monitors (2 on the 3200 and one on the 3400). On my setup PS likes to enable and actually work with the OpenGL stuff when I launch either/or the 64 or 32 bit version on the monitor that is attached to the 3400 card. After that I can drag the app anywhere I want and it works.

  • Why is my Photoshop CS4 not installing both 64 and 32 bit versions?

    Hello,
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I purchased and downloaded Photoshop CS4 Extended and it installed as a 64 bit program. Now I need a 32 bit version also (for some Nik plugins), but the installer didn't install the 32 bit version (it would be in Program Files (x86). It should have installed both as a default.
Also, I didn't change the default pathing as I know that can screw the install up.
I ran the install program again and it runs through the complete install without giving me the Options Panel to select which version 64 or 32 (or both) to install.
Should I completely uninstall PS and reinstall to see if I get the install Options Panel?  Other Ideas?
    Thanks!
    Chris

"it is not possible to just install the 32 bit version without an uninstall?"
It's a great idea, but I don't know how. I have the downloaded the PS CS4 file from Adobe that I used to originally install PS. I re-ran this install program and it reinstalled the same 64bit program that I already have; it never gave me any options as to which version to install.
I'm think I'll just have to de-activate, uninstall, reinstall to get the PS install Options Panel.

I didn't understand properly. Plz refer the page and tell me what it means.

  • Photoshop CS4 only installed in 32-bit version??

I bought Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Extended) 2 years ago. It was the disc-based copy for Windows. I recently got a new computer (now with 8GB ram and a 64-bit OS) So I instaleld PS CS4 the other day, and I now just realized that there is no 64-bit exe of the program. It only installed a 32-bit executable. It never asked me during install either if I wanted to choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
Does PS CS4 not have a 64-bit version? Or did I not get it? What's going on here?

There was a 64-bit version of CS4 for Windows but not for the Mac.  You might browser the DVD and see if you can find a 64-bit installer.  I don't have my DVD handy to tell you where to look.

If it helps I am running the 10.7.0.21 on the Sony Vaio & remember checking last week I do have the latest update on the Ipod but it is a different version from the Itunes on the laptop (which may be normal, I wouldn't know) but as I am away from home & Wifi I can't tell u the version on that though.
My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?
*Will add & remove totally uninstall Itunes so that I can reinstall?
*Will I lose my apps, music & data?
*If the apps, music & data is recoverable, how do I do that?
Sadly I can't find the installer & would love to add my new Mumford & Sons cd to my Ipod collection but don't know how to fix this. This "smart friend" really sounds like a collosal moron.
Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925  to remove and reinstall all Apple products on your computer.
Once you get everything working, the next time your "smart friend" wants to touch your computer, tell them firmly NOT A CHANCE IN ****!
None of your data (media, podcasts, apps) will be affected by removing and reinstalling iTunes.

  • I plug in my iPhone and this message showed. "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I did this but still not working. Please advise

I have a problem with connecting my iPhone to iTunes. I uninstalled one of the computer program and restart my laptop. After restart my laptop and a message said that iTunes might not working because one of the component is missing and request to reinstall the iTunes. Hence I remove iTunes from my laptop and I reinstall iTunes to my laptop but still not working.
Before this the iTunes will automatically launch when I plug in my iPhone. But after I reinstall iTunes, it's not working. When I try to plug in my iPhone after iTunes launched and message "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." popped out. I did this twice but it's not working as well.
Please advise what should I do to fix this.

First make sue you are installing the 64 bit version of iTunes.
Second make sure it is iTunes 10.7 or later.
I would download a fresh copy of the 64 bit version of iTunes 11. After installation reboot your computer.
Before connecting your phone reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes

I have seen others post this same question but the answers provided does not resolve my problem. My iPad Air is running iOS 7.1.2. I have been using this same computer for three years. It has Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1,  64-bit Operating System, Intel 3.4GHZ computer and 16.0 GB .  I used this same computer with my iPad2 for several years. I purchased an iPad Air a year ago. I never had a problem with either iPad using iTunes. About a week ago, my computer would no longer recognize the iPad Air. I thought it must be a driver problem or iTunes somehow became corrupted. I uninstalled all of the Apple products except for iCloud and deleted any Apple software left in my Program Files and Program Files (x86). I then downloaded from Apple, iTunes64Setup.exe which is a 110,833 KB program. I installed the program without a problem. It installed Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support and iTunes. These programs I had previously uninstalled. I then brought up iTunes.  I now plugged in my iPad Air and a popup message appeared "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes". OK, I did as instructed. I used the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then ran iTunes64Setup.exe. I brought up iTunes and got the same message. "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is nt installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  In general, I have found the Apple software to be robust and reliable. This situation however is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone has an answer that I can use to resolve my problem.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.
In your case I suggest you start with a clean download of the setup file using the direct link. If reinstalling AMDS alone doesn't work try tearing everything down again.
