CS4 interface

I think this is the first time Ps interface took a step backwards, it looks like it came from windows 3.1. It is just ugly. Here are my initial complaints:
application frame is an interesting option but
application bar takes too much space with mostly useless tools
UI is flat - harsh - harder to read
hard to hit pallet close box
pallets will not dock properly
why does hue "click on photo" adjustment not work? (it works in lightroom)
why does Ps not respect the dock any more?
tool bar doesn't have any lines between icons - can we have an option for that?
THE USE OF CAPITALS IS ANNOYING
no upgrade price from CS3 extended
bridge window is cluttered
when quickly flipping trough photos bridge stops momentarily to allow the thumbnail animation to catch up, I want function, not cute animation!
just sloppy:
bridge maximize button still leaves a gap between the title bar
http://headproductions.com/888/ps/gap.png
another sloppy layout
http://headproductions.com/888/ps/sloppy.png
ACR looks different, bridge looks different, photoshop looks different, why not make it look like lightroom (which looks nice) or Apple's FCP

> So when the panels are present it is not true wall to wall nor the useful IMHO 'Fit to "available" Screen'
I see that behavior in full screen mode but the behavior you want is in standard mode. If you want your image to take up a certain area of the screen (fit to available screen) but not the whole screen, then you're talking about a windowed mode. In either of the full screen modes, the window for the image is the whole screen.
So it sounds like you want something that isn't really consistent with the paradigm, as much as I agree that "fit to screen" is useful only in windowed mode or when the panels are hidden.
BTW, I personally hate dual-monitor setups. I use one in a client's office because that's what they have, but having two monitors is no substitute for having a single monitor of adequate size. I hate trying to figure out where the mouse pointer is or where it will appear when I drag the mouse off the side. Never mind having to travel all the way over there just to get at my tools. But to the point here, a second monitor has never been a substitute for intelligent UI design.
I'm afraid I'm still a little unclear as to the benefit of the application frame, but I solve the problem I've been having since the first time I used a computer with a gui with three keystrokes: F-F-Tab. Sudden Photoshop Nirvana whether I'm on a 12" laptop screen or the 30" at the desktop. =^)

  • Has anyone seen the CS4 interface?

The website says On Location CS4 puts everything on one screen...no scrolling. I also read an article a few months ago about the Mac version, saying it had lost the "cheesy faux equipment look" (or something like that).
Where are the screenshots? You'd think they'd be playing this up more. I've been with OL/DVR since version 1.0, and the interface has always annoyed me.

    http://tv.adobe.com/#vi+f1555v1713
Section on OnLocation CS4 is about 7:15 into the video. Definitely an improvement.
I don't think they're playing up very well either, but then again, it probably hasn't garnered the same user support as products like Photoshop or After Effects - or, of course, Premiere Pro. Maybe with this new revision there will be better support from users. Perhaps it would help if OnLocation also worked with RED camera, like the other video products in CS4 will be able to do.

  • CS4 Interface fonts

    Hi,
I'm just getting into using InDesign CS4, and there are some things I don't like about the interface.  I hated the all-caps on the interface fonts but got rid of them with the InDesign Secrets tip.  However, the type itself is a little small.  Is there a way to make it bigger without changing the monitor resolution?  I mostly go by the icons, but I have a few libraries that I use too and keep in the panel (and those all have the same icon).
    Thanks, Phyllis

It has been noticed that the name 'Suite' is possibly not the best choice for the CS collection -- there are huge differences in the interface between PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I just noticed PhotoShop CS4 has an option "UI Font Size"; with a possible selection of not points or even pixels, but restricted to "Small", "Medium", and "Large". The difference is hardly noticeable on my 24" screen:
-- left is "small", right is "large".
It's a start. Perhaps CS5 will finally be unified.

  • Dreamweaver (CS4) interface got corrupted :-(

    Hi All,
I was happily using DW CS4 on MS Vista for a while alread and suddenly after installation of Nero (CD burning software) I've found it corrupted !
As you may see on the above screenshot - interface elements are displayed "cut" or incomplete.
It is now very inconvinient to work.
Any ideas what might go wrong and how to bring back the full functionality of the program?
Simple reinstallation of Dreamweaver is not helpfull :-(((
    Thank's ahead,
    Ziggi

Thank you all for your kind help but alas - I deleted DW configuration folder, restarted application and found the corrupted interface again.
Honestly - there must have been something go wrong with the system I suppose as I think interface elements are often system-dependent. And when I look at the DW now I can see a lot of subtle corruptions here and there like this one:
As you may see - page title font is not as usual (looks a bit smaller than normal), source code and styles panels titles are a bit "cut" - you can't see lower part of letter "g" for instance (in the word "dialog").
Is it possible that some system DLL file has been overwritten with a version not fully compatible with DW4? Any idea which one?
There are DLL files like ctrl32.dll and Ctrl32.ocx in Windows what normally may exist side-by-side in multiple versions and these libraries contain regular system control elements definitions like labels, text fields, combo box, etc. How about Dreamweaver - does it use some Adobe proprietary controls or what?
Anyway - there is no Side-by-Side generated errors in the Event Viewer application log, so activation context generation must have been fine for all Dreamweaver dependencies... or there are no explicit restrictions in the application manifest, so SxS is unable to catch assembly discrepancies...
    Any ideas?
    Rgs,
    Ziggi

If you select the Classic workspace, it is. The panel tabs
    are slightly
different, and the Property inspector is divided into HTML
    and CSS views.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 interface problems in Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

I'm experiencing some frutratingly bizzare behavior with Dreamweaver CS4 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and I'm hoping someone might now how to fix the issues.
    1) When creating a new site by selecting "Site/New Site..." or "Site/Manage Sites..." the fields for selecting "Local root folder" and "Default images folder" always select a directory above where I tell it.
For example if I tell it to use "E:\ClientFiles\Client\website\" it always selects "E:\ClientFiles\Client\". and the only solution is to write in the proper directory manually.
    2) Possibly related to the above targeting problem. In a document, even an new empty xhtml, if I place an image on the page and double click on that image to replace it with another I get the dialog box for selecting the new image, but on pressing "OK" nothing happens. The same thing occurs if I select the fodler icon in the properites at the bottom. The only methods that work are either deleting the placed image and then placing a new image or deleting the "Src" info in the "properties" panel and then clicking the folder icon next to "Src".
You can see how this would get frustrating after a while.
I've tried a complete reinstall of CS4, deleting the Dreamweaver cache file, and I get the same behavior on my laptop which is also running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Any help would be appreciated. I've submitted this behavior to Adobe support as well in hops that it can some how be resolved.

Both are known issues in DW on Win 7 and Vista. It's not just 64 bit.
Until Adobe issues a patch, the workarounds you describe are the only solutions for the timebeing.

  • AE CS4 Interface stops updating properly

I've been having this problem come and go for awhile - AE CS4 dialog boxes (like Save As), menus, even scrubbing the timeline sometimes just randomly stop working.  A few minutes ago I went to the Effects menu and it opened totally black - as I moved my mouse down the menu it drew in each item.  Before that double clicked on a layer marker and it opened a blank box.  File->Save As dialog boxes sometimes open empty.  And scrubbing on the timeline just sometimes stops updating.  If I keep clicking at random places on the timeline that one usually will fix itself.
In ALL CASES exitting and restarting AE fixes it.
Yea, certainly sounds like a video driver kinda thing - but this just started happening with no changes to my system.  (AE also had a 2-day fit where it would not render Maya .IFF files even though I've used them for years, then it got over it and now works fine again....???)
System is Intel dual quad core, 8G ram, Windows XP x64, Quadro FX 1700
Does this sound familiar to anyone?  Know how to fix?
    Thanks!
    David Henion

Damn computer gremlins. As Todd said, this issue is too exotic to guess the cause, so sending a crash report would probaly do wonders and documenting the current misconduct with screenshots also helps. Still, sounds like something external is interfering seriously, so I'd check for suspicious processes from virus scanners or networking stuff. Could even go as far as something randomly locking up program files just to scan or index them. This would at least explain your IFF problem - at the time the program was launched, the IFF plug-in was locked, so AE couldn't see it.

  • Way to fix buggy DW CS4 interface?

Has this been discussed already? I searched and could not
find. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11, and recently upgraded to DW CS4.
The list of styles in the Styles panel often disappear when I click
on one of the listed styles! It is quite annoying, as I have to
click in the panel again to make them reappear. It happens when it
pulls me into editing mode, to edit the name of the style. It keeps
sucking me in and the whole list disappears except the one that it
wants me to edit. I clicked the style to begin with in order to see
the style's properties in the tab below.
And here's another bug. I right-click on a style and choose
duplicate in the drop down menu. I give the style a new name in the
dialogue box. I click OK, but it doesn't generate the new file!
WTF? Is this bug happening in OS 10.5 and up?

    any help ?
    thanks

  • Premier Pro CS4 interface problem

When working in PPro CS4, i encounter this problem. When i click in the Program: Sequence 01 window the video image from the video on the time line, turns from showing the video image to just showing the white rectangle resize box. This makes it very frustrating trying to guesstimae how the video is resizing. My mac is running OSx 10.7.5 with 2.8 ghz i7 chip. here are some images to show what I mean.
The video image showing. Time line clicked.
The white rectangle that appears without video image when I go to resize the video image.
Any ideas on what I can do to get the video image displaying correctly greatly appreciated. My Mac at work displays this correctly, but as yet have not worked out what is different in settings.

  • Opening new file full screen pshop cs4

Hello an happy new year to all
I am new here and french....Please fogive any mistake following....
I am working under Windos XP pro with Radeon X1950 pro and two screens 22"
My two problems : 1 - Opening a New file:
When I open a new file, I cannot obtain a full screen image as I did in previous versions of PS. May be because I use centimeters dimensions?
: 2 - In the "work space " (Is it right in english ?)
When I choice "affichage" and then full screen for work space, the image I get is much larger but not entirely full screen..
Sorry to ask so simple a question and thank for your answers.
    JD

    The CS4 interface is
    very
    different from previous versions.
You have to a lot of experimenting to see how it works and to find your best solution.
If you select the Zoom tool you will see "Fit Screen" and "Full Screen" in the Options bar. They are slightly different. There is also the "F" key.
Pressing Tab or Shift+Tab to remove Toolbox and/or panels changes the behaviour as does having the main application frame maximised or floating.
Just to add more confusion, using tabbed or floating image windows creates more variables to the mix.
The help files don't help much and tutorials tend to concentrate on single aspects of the user interface.
Like I said, you have to a lot of experimenting to see how it works and to find your best solution.

  • Too many docked ScriptUI panels bog down interface?

Has anyone else run into this problem? I have about 10 ScriptUI panels docked around my AE interface. It seems like when I select a layer, it can take 3-5 seconds for the Effect control palette to appear.
Do Script UI panels slow down the entire AE CS4 interface?

    Navarro:
Having 10-12 ScriptUI panels docked is not known to cause a bog down of the application per se.
But it could be good performing a couple of tests.
For example, if you switch to a different workspace (also with the panels docked), do you still get this?
Does this happen with an empty (or nearly empty) project as well? Or it only happens when you have a lot of comps/viewers open?
If you switch to the "All panels" workspace (forget ScriptUI for a second), is it still slow?

          Match: any
            0 packets, 0 bytes

I'd really like to match on all multicast though. The destination IP or MAC makes the most sense but they fail.

  • Hide webpage link URL from browser status bar?

Anyone know how to hide webpage link URL from the browser
status bar with Dreamweaver CS4? So that when the mouse cursor
hovers over a link on a webpage, the URL won't be shown in the
browser status bar. This comes in useful for when I put my email as
a link on a webpage but I don't want to let my email address be
known prematurely. I prefer to do this through the Dreamweaver CS4
interface without coding, if possible. What is the easiest way to
hide link URL like this? Thanks.

More than the anal users. Many people use this information to
    decide
whether they will click on the link. By hiding it, you remove
    that
extremely valuable security information - for example, a link
    tells you on
the screen that it is taking you to www.wachovia.com, but the
    status bar
link tells you it's taking you to
    www.iamahackersiteandwilldrinkyourmilkshake.cn
I don't think you want to remove that from your site, unless,
    of course, you
    are the webmaster for
    'iamahackersiteandwilldrinkyourmilkshake.cn....

What time period will OS X Server be supporting the PPC-platform? I read it somewhere but don't remeber where.
I have to buy a Xserve in the months to come so as it is highly probable that the Xserves will be updated as the last product it will be too long to wait for them. That will be no problem if at least the next two OS X Server releases will continue to support the G5.

I did not say that it was pixie dust. My mistake, Bridge is not Cocoa only Lightroom and Acrobat are (or at least are using Cocoa elements [I seriously doubt that Adobe implemented a cut buffer in Lightroom]). The point I was hinting at was that Adobe has scrambled both Cocoa and Carbon beyond recognition.

Bridge has a highly customised interface with tabs, rearrangeable panels and whatnot...is Carbon (like Photoshop) but is fully Mac compatible.
I am asking that Adobe avoid using code that is not compatible, the same way any developer would.
